Abagworo: Lagos has by far the highest external debt. The 700 billion of Delta is a combination of all debts of which that of Lagos might exceed 200billion. oga debt name debt. nothing like external or internal PS I am very sure delta States debt is not up to 700 bil. that I know |

Borrowing 1billion dollars plus huge internally generated revenue is not a legacy |

dridowu: We all know Lagos is owning a huge debt, no one is denying that. What you should have do is to provide a recent evidence (link) to counter the op claims not focusing on the "the last time list" I would rather go with the last report because I do not trust the source of this news And I have seen so many lies from the apc camp that makes me doubt any news coming from their evil assembly. So I would rather go with the last official report. Than believe this hogwash |

obailala: It would not be allowed to happen in Lagos, in fact, it cannot happen in Lagos and I can explain why. You know what happens when you are pushed to the wall?.. You simply turn back, face the problem headlong and fight. Lagos being the last surviving port, it cannot be allowed to go down because of its necessity.
In the 90's, Warri used to be a great business hub for oil and gas companies. There was hardly any major oil company which didnt have operations or offices in Warri. But insecurity upon insecurity made the town unattractive and chased businesses away. Belligerent youths would stroll into a company yard and demand the companies to 'settle' or to pay development levy a.k.a 'deve'. It got so ridiculous that even private businesses and individuals weren't left out. Consequently, companies started leaving one by one and even recently, the almighty shell has also left and rendered the town desolate.
Now most of these companies relocated to PH and Lagos and then the same problem faced in warri arose in PH. But guess what?... companies were tired of moving around, Some which couldn't cope ran to Lagos, others were just forced to live with it. Why am I saying all these stories?... If the same problem which forced importers to run to Lagos comes to Lagos, there would be no where else to run to hence the problem would be tackled headlong. Inotherwords the fg will only face the problem when it gets to Lagos is that not a deliberate effort to frustrate the zone. You are talking about the actions of the youth but not talking about the fact that it all started when other oil companies and other multinationals operating in the area would rather fill up their companies with other tribes leaving the owners of the land without jobs. I think the federal government should make efforts to install a viable seaport in Ph and provide all the necessary machinery to make it work. It won't be that difficult to do. PS all these illegal levy collection is still going on in the southwest especially in Lagos so don't make it sound like it is a ss problem |
Politics › Re: Why Is Rivers State Sea Port Underutilised While Lagos Suffers From Congestion? by stanech: 7:42pm On Oct 08, 2015 |
obailala: It is not a silly explanation. Sea piracy is a MAJOR problem in these areas. I know personally about the warri port; piracy killed the port. Not long ago when sea pirates were attacked by the air force, certain group of people criticised the attack on pirates because their heads are only configures to see things through the microscopic prism of politics/ethnicity; they defended the criminals because they felt since the president was from the north then he had no right to fight even southern criminals.
Bro, security in the water ways was one of the biggest problems which cripled the ports in the Niger delta. Oil companies you refer to have the money and they pay billions yearly to secure their vessels and properties. Private business men dont have that kind of caash. so if those pirates decide to attack Lagos should we now close our Lagos ports? are u saying our fg can't protect our water from mere pirates? if they can attack warri and pH why can't they attack Lagos . bros again |

jaymichael: Have you ever transported goods to any part of the SS? I have. Have you ever cited any projects in the SS? then you will know that you have to "settle community" is the money legal? No. Who collects the money? you should have asked me who collects or where the agbero money collected in Lagos go to. Nobody is shortchanging the SS or ND in this regard. The NDeltans should tone down on this "OUR THIS, OUR THAT" attitude. There are PH port, warri port, Calabar port, Koko port. lagos waterways are peaceful safe and conducive for business and navigation. From Apapa Tincan channel through Badagry creek, down to Badagry, is safe without problems of piracy and militancy unlike what obtains in the ND. My question now is that is it not the duty of the federal government to stop these people collecting these illegal fines. What if youths in Lagos starts collecting these taxes is the fg now going to move the Lagos port to Benin republic.. These youths are collecting these mone because nobody is stopping them. So the federal government through the Police and other agencies ensure that businesses are protected. |

Dannyset: Please convince me on how dealing in Sea port that involves and cater for a whole region(if not a country) is the same thing with oil lifting. Do you really know what it is to have a working Ports in violence prone environment? Or you think Sea ports isn't for Private and Public parastatals? Violence? I don't get it. as I am typing now there is relative peace in the whole of Niger Delta. so which violence are you talking about and remember that the reason for the agitation in the Niger delta was because of government insensitivity to their plight. do you know how far a sea port will go in helping the youths in nigerdelta? if you can drill their oil and transport the oil to other parts of the country and the world why not establish a functional port for them. |

jaymichael: Learn to Learn ignorance makes one appear dumb. Am into the logistics business. I am a freight forwarder. Who tell you the oil companies and the shipping agents to those oil vessels don't settle "community" It is mostly oil companies that ship essential equipments through PH port. Though some business men business men do ship goods through PH port, but the rate is very very low. I often discuss with a boss of mine who works with GAC shipping agency (OPERATIONS MANAGER in charge of discharging and loading of vessels oil tankers inclusive) he often decry the level of militancy, extortion and piracy as the most serious impediment to their operations. sorry your explanation is not making sense to me. who is collecting these money are they legal bodies ? can't the government do anything to check them. I still think they are deliberately shortchanging the ss people |

jaymichael: The answer is just one, MILITANCY/PIRACY. Those Niger Delta waterways are not safe. Apart from threats of kidnapping, it is more expensive for the shipping companies and shipping agents to operate that route as they have to settle or pay "escort" money to each community they pass. The cost is then passed on to the consignees. Security (or lack of it) is a serious impediment to the optimal utilization of Portharcourt port. this is the silliest thing I have ever read. how do the oil companies carryout oil exploration in these areas then if it is that bad |
