Blackbishop: P0014 – Camshaft Position Timing Over Advanced Most Toyota engines are configured with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-I). The VVT-I technology is a smarter ways that could make engine more efficient and more eco-friendly. The system is located on the cylinder head which is used as automatic time controller of the engine’s inlet and exhaust valves.
Most Toyota engine with this technology tends to have a rattle noise at cold start after some mileage. This is common with Hyundai engine also, but mechanic almost misdiagnose this error to be a bad Timing chain/belt or OCV – Oil Control Valve.
Diagram of a VVT-I
Camshaft Timing Gear sprocket
All diagrams are shown below
There is an Oil passage to the VVT gear controlled by the oil pressure and controlled by an Camshaft Actuator. In the VVT actuator you have an Input and Output phasing that locks when the need arises, but once the lock is worn out there is an clearance that makes the noise till the oil pump supplies oil into the phasing. That is why you get to experience the rattling noise.
The best measure is to replace and relearn also
A 2010 Toyota Camry le with 2ar-fe engine was having a problem. The problem is when starting for the 1st time in the morning, the car will attempt to start while jecking and then switch off. On the 2nd attempt, it will start normal as if nothing happen on the previous attempt. No check engine light seen while the engine is on but seen when you turn on the ignition. A scan was performed and p0015 was seen as a pending code. But the code disappeared after an oil change and driving for about 50+ miles. My question is can this code cause the starting problem because the car still starts like that especially after being parked for about 6hrs even if you driven it for the day.
Mobil Super 2000 is different from Mobil Super 3000.
Super 2000 is their Synthetic blend line of engine oils.
Super 3000 is a fully synthetic line of engine oils.
Mobil 1 series is their premium advanced fully synthetic grade.
As stated in your image Mobil super 3000 is a fully synthetic oil for diesel engine. Are you supposed to use such engine oil in your petrol engine? Mobil super 2000 premium semi-synthetic passenger vehicle engine oil. The mixture as Gazzuzz said is not stated there.
GAZZUZZ: This is where remote diagnosis ends and hands on begins.
Thanks for your time. Can the engine oil I mentioned above cause this. When this car arrived Nigeria a look at under the oil cap indicates the engine is clean. But on changing the engine oil and at 3k miles use on the oil. The place changed color to dark brown. This makes me change the engine oil at 3600 miles. Thanks
GAZZUZZ: You have been able to rule out defective harness
P0015 TOYOTA Possible Causes What does this mean?
* Dirty Oil * Variable Valve Timing (VVT) circuit is open or shorted * Oil Control Valve (OCV) circuit is open or shorted * Faulty variable valve timing (VVT) * Faulty oil control valve (OCV) * Damaged ECM
You have 3 pissibles left
Thanks for your time. how can the other three test's be performed. Does this relates to the timing?
Thanks. I also forgot to add that a toks complete assembly of the fuel pump was brought and changed with that of the car yet the problem still persists. How long is the pressure hold supposed to last. Can a dirty crankshaft position sensor filter pull out p0015. Can I call you.
Car was brought as oyibo used august 2020. Was serviced with Pennzoil 5w20 on October 2020. On Feb. 2021 it was observed that the car doesn't start on the 1st attempt as usual, but only starts on 2nd attempt with no error code. This is usually observed when the car have been parked for 8 hrs or more. Fuel pump, nozzles and injector mouth were all tested okay and also cleaned. Denso sk20hr11 iridium spark plug and could switch were changed still no effect, Only to be scanned yesterday to see p0015 as a pending code. current odd of the car is 114958.
Good evening Gazzuzz I have a car with this code p0015. This causes hard starting by the user. Its a 2011 Toyota rav4 with a 2ar-fe engine. Please how can this problem be solved without the mechanic creating more problems for the car/owner.
Good afternoon Gazzuzz. My brother have a 2007 Toyota camry with 2az engine. The car usually shuts off most times while trying to change the gear from drive to reverse or reverse to drive. The car was scanned and p0420 was seen. My question is that can this error code cause this unexpected switching off at most times.
seanfer: Before buying the car, please check the custom papers. That will give you a hint about when the car got into the country.. Also run the Vin on askniid.org to see if it has been registered before.
When the car gets into the country means nothing. I've seen someone drive a car for 6 years with less than 25k Mike's added to the initial odometer when the car arrived Nigeria. How was the car maintained is the most important thing to look into.
stephenponti: I dont think it will exceed 3 months. Though I have no experience with returning item through them. but I have seen people send item abroad via nipost. so its 100% possible to send the item back to seller via nipost at cheaper cost.
Good evening house. I have a scanner that I broght from autel offical store in aliexpress. It landed Nigeria through DHL. Now the scanner is faulty and cant be repaired here in Nigeria. I called the company and they said I should send it back to Hongkong. Please house is there any cheaper shipping line one can recommend for me to send it back to Hongkong, dhl is expensive. Thanks
Structuralman: That's where the overheating problem is coming from. Replace it with a double cell radiator and the overheating will stop. Regards.
This is wrong. The mechanic should be able to check all the flow line for leakage and also for stall thermostat. If in good condition then some other test can come in. Better still change mechanic.
radautoworks: The second is platinum with additional compound layers apart from the ceramic in the first gold set. I use gold personally (the first). The second is on par with high end like Akebono and Wagner and really is for high performance vehicles. Can you use it, yes. Do you need to, not really.
