GboyegaD: Good. I think the speaking is what you may have to focus on. I did not read anything during mine because people told me it wasn't difficult and also because of my unserious nature and thank God I passed well although my speaking wasn't good enough. More so, I would suggest for clarity, you may choose to talk a little slower because that way, they get to understand you better as in my time, I spoke at my regular phase which I later realised was just too fast after I got here.
Frienu on now , I didn't get ur email so I gave the info on here , please let nke know if you need any other info . Right now am prepareing for the toefl and hope to score high . I wait for you

liteville: Honestly, if your gmat or gre is still valid, I really don't know why you'd want to cancel your appointment based on the expired toefl. The visa officer is not testing your english fluency, he's only interested in the exams you sat to qualify for an admission. The irony is this, you may not even be asked for the toefl at all. When I went for my interview, I gave her my GRE and TOEFL and she didn't even look at the toefl at all. Again, what was your score in the TOEFL? and I believe you still have some unresolved issues with your SEVIS - that could be why you're so bent on cancelling. The embassy is not as scary as you think it is. Just be confident and articulate your thoughts well, with prayers, it's going to be an easy ride!
Broda thanks for the encouragin words , I m going for UG and I used computer based toefl to secure admission . Please can you help me get with DHS to transfer my sevis fee .pls check my score report if itrs like urs

walex57: well concentrate very well on speaking section and writing, cos reading and listening are quite easy if you're not nervous...you don't really need much preparation for toefl...for reading you need speed...most questions will still refer to the passage cos they will ask on every paragraph so it's better you go straight to answering the questions instead of wasting precious time reading the passage many times...use the question to read the passage if you know what i mean, on listening, just get the main points, you can jot if u wish but i'll advice you do more of listening, for speaking just say exactly what the question requests of u...same for writing and i see you scoring more than 103 that i scored cos i fumbled a bit in the speaking segment...the first question said i should talk about a common fashion trend in my country and i talked about the Senegalese fashion being worn by women but had my voice shaking a bit...but i gained myself back in the other 5 speaking questions...just go and write it with boldness...God is with you... i had Reading:26 Listening:26, Speaking: 24 and writing: 27...without any preparation except the sample questions i downloaded from the ets website....All the best friend!
Oh good bro .
Are u going for UG or msc, which consulate office . I love ur answers to d question , I think if one can answer the 6-rst 2 questions boldly , there won't be miuch doubt . Congrats once again , SO what's ur advice to someone who had been denied 3times and still going for UG .

liteville: I also feel greatly indebted to come back here and say thank you to everyone who has at anytime contributed to this forum. I really can't count the number of times I've spent on this particular thread digesting the information in there. I read almost the entire thread starting from the "1st season" and of course the efforts have paid off. I went for my visa interview on Monday and it was approved. Below is the excerpt of the interview;

I had a little challenge before my interview. All applicants were being given a slip as we entered and we were being called for the document verification, biometrics and interview in a definite order. When I finished my biometrics and was waiting to be called for the interview, my number was skipped, I thought it was just an oversight so I didn't budge initially, but after about 6-7 people (whose number were after mine) did with my own name not called, I went to the woman who did the verification and she directed me to go to one window, where I was later directed to another window for my interview.

VO: Why have you chosen to go to the US for your studies?
Me: Because the US has a proven track record when it comes to educational advancement and they also have an excellent reputation in research activity

VO: How did you hear about the school?
Me: I came across one of their publications when I was preparing for my undergraduate research and besides a senior colleague is presently studying there.

VO: So you're working, where do you work?
Me: Told her the name of the company

VO: In what capacity
Me: Told her

VO: So how do you intend to pay for your fees
Me: Told her I got a graduate assistantship and my uncle will be paying for the rest

VO: Can I see your uncle's bank statement (before she completed the statement, she changed her mind and asked if I sat for any exam to qualify for the award and she requested to see them)
Me: Told her I sat GRE and TOEFL

VO: Did you apply to other schools?
Me: Yes, 4 other schools

VO: Mention them
Me: I did (thereafter, she said the schools I mentioned were rather random) and I explained that they're not random, that they all have something in common, and that's a lot of expertise in my research area ( I mentioned the research area)

VO: she chuckled; I really don't know what your research area is all about anyway.

You can go and pick up your visa on Friday, sorry Thursday.
Me: I said 'thanks' and I left her window.

PS: A black American lady interviewed me. When I got there initially, she was in charge of biometrics. A couple of friends said she'd interviewed some people earlier and that she was rather nasty.

I've heard a lot of stories before I went for my interview and I must confess it's really not as scary as it seems outside. (the interview wasn't up to 5 mins) Those who couldn't express themselves clearly were denied (not like my responses flowed well, but I was able to articulate myself and I think my responses made sense) Besides studying nairaland night and day, I made a list of my own possible questions and my own responses and virtually all the questions were asked based on the one I prepared for myself.
Also, my TOEFL had expired when I went for the interview but that was the TOEFL I used to secure the admission so I felt there was no need to take another one.
Another thing is, it's been repeated times without number, the importance of writing standardized tests (GRE and TOEFL; mind you that was the only document that was requested for me), I believe it shows your academic seriousness especially if you have a good score. You may be asked and you may not, but why would you want to take chances. The only exception to this rule would be, if you have a very very good transcript (and I'm talking 1st class students here) that may be convincing as to why your GRE was waived. In my own opinion, very few good schools would give you admission without GRE and the consular officers know this as well.
Lastly, God's favor is very important, I guess one can't ask enough for this. Prepare and pray well, and I believe you'll also have a good story to share at the end of the day.
To the old and new contributors -- gongo aso, superbrain, ojap, aroy1, impreriouxx, davidylan and so many others, thank you very much.
Congrats bro ,

How was the toefl test like , wot aspect u like or shud someone concetrate on . I guess u went for MSC rite . I am presently prepaerin for toefl on saturday . I just want a high score .

king1_00: @ all

Contrary to the idea that you don't need to attach any file while applying for Emergency appointment, please that was before, if you want to apply for one, from your home tab click emergency appointment, it will take you to a page and expalain details on those that qualify for emergency appointment, the next page, you will write in brief why you want a quicker date and attach your i20 and sevis receipt. They always Do approve of it if you follow this means.

@stantiques
I thought you were liasing with gboyega to get this done, it would be easier for someone in the US to solve this problem.
Yes brouv .

But the problem is gboyega is yet to drop me his email so I can send all neccessary info to him.

genxris: Hi House

please i want to knw if NECO certificate is aceptable by d VO? Though i'm going 4graduate studies,i just want to knw incase am askd to show my o level if NECO is ok because that's where i cleared all my papers,i v WAEC too but it's not good.. What do u think plz?
NO neco not accepted , just waec . U can go with the Cert not statement of result .
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by Stantiques: 9:59am On Jun 10, 2012
deevick246: Bros, not under minding the importance of standardised test but they are not the determinant to the issuance of F1 Visa. We have seen people on this thread with standardised test that were still denied Visa and some without any standardised test score that got it, even though their saving grace was that the VO did not ask for it. Na God dey give visa.

WAEC is not same as standardised test score. Examples of Standardised test are TOEFL, IELTS,SAT, GRE, & GMAT. How on earth would you go for F1 Visa interview without a WAEC result?

You were the one who shot yourself at the leg brov.
Forget I know what standardized test is , so don't give me that . And my point is that what if the VO asked , and u don't have it , vent u deny ursef by not doing the right tin . Oh boy I lost my priginal cert and had the copy , but I was not aware u cud present d statement of result with scratch card as at then . So am not an ignorant as u tink , more over u are no body so u shud be a lil explicit wen replyin .
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by Stantiques: 12:25pm On Jun 09, 2012
I wonder y some peeps are trying to aviod gettin a standardized test ,I ve been denied and I no how it feels to be asked a document den u unable to present , u denyin ursef already , havin relevant docunents wud encourage ones boldness to ME , and been able to present to VO what they ask wud give less doubt to VO abt ur geniuety even though u fake .in my own case I was going for UG and d guy asked for my waec told him was stolent and gave a copy immediately he gave me 214 . Pls anyone going for interview shud try do a test that shows u serious and ve good intention abt syudyin .

sanadeb001: @Kpoll my father is sponsoring me. Do i need a sponsorship letter for that again
The transcript you mentioned is it a WAEC transcript or which one. i got some people who applied before and was granted with out toefl and sat.
Brouv , you need ur waec certifictate , or the statement of result alongside the scratch card if u jam cool headed VO can accept statement of result frm u .or u bold enuf to convince . U need stardardized test report dat way u ve nottin to fear if asked . Na only God no wot dey will ask frm u . So better u go with all supportin docs . Wot goes for A might not work for B .
