I don't there is a magic formula that works for everyone. Some people recommend long periods of preparation, while others swear by quick-thinking shortcuts. For me, what matters most is staying calm, relaxed, and clear-headed, so you can answer questions quickly and correctly without guessing or panicking as the clock starts to run down.

On a lighter note, I remember my experience in 2007. I had flown into Abuja from Lagos late the previous night for the first test, where we literally had to fight our way into the ICC because of the sheer number of applicants. I was completely exhausted and actually fell asleep between sections since it was a paper-based test. A fellow test-taker could not believe his eyes and kept berating me for “wasting” a golden opportunity.

I went in with zero preparation and carried the same attitude into the second test and, eventually, the assessment centre in Lagos.

I even arrived late for the assessment centre after first forgetting to make copies of my documents and then getting lost in Lagos Island. I barely made it in time for accreditation

One thing I will say is this: follow the rules and do your best. 🙂

This fits in line with what most people are reporting. Despite this though, we’ll still have gurus and professional SHL test takers who’ll snatch perfect scores of 100. I do wonder what percentage of the test taking population they are though?

Don't let the outcome of this define you at all! I know of someone who "failed" the GT recruitment and got hired a few years later through the Experience Hire. So do not despair. In fact be positive until you hear otherwise

So first things first, applaud yourself for even getting through it. It's a brutal (unfair?) test. As long as you know you have it your best preparation and your best during the exam, you can only learn from it. I felt the same exact way both for our WAEC and SHL. And in my case, I had to travel to write the exams o! So I felt even more stupid. Keep your head up. Don't keep monitoring the thread too much, and whatever the result is, don't be too hard on yourself. If God-willing you scale this SHL, start preparing for the AC on the day the result comes out. Having a very good head start is very crucial in this. I wish you all the best

You manner of speaking reminds me a lot about one guy I successfully "worked with" for the 2022 Assessment Centre. I'm sure he's reading now lol.

Every engineer, or let me say every good engineer likes to question the reason and rationale. But, omo, I've learned to set out of that methodical thinking when the situation calls for it.


About the NLNG GT recruitment, I trust the process. There were just under a 100 that resumed when we resumed. Not one person was hired because of man-know-man. None that I'm aware off.

Fingers crossed that you scale through to the AC.

No. If what I know is right, the business would have purchased a “pack” from SHL and that pack will have a bank of questions for each “subject”. I don’t expect that the question bank will be changed mid-recruitment primarily because of fairness.

I’m sure there has always been the possibility that people would screenshot their questions and share. I think people were “misled” into thinking the questions were “easy” and lowered their preparation. Even those running their mouth that the questions were “easy” will be shocked if they don’t get shortlisted. They will be the ones that will go around parroting that NLNG recruitment is “man-know-man”, when in fact they have not met up to the expectations of the business. One of the values of NLNG is Integrity. Prospective GTs already engaging in “non-Integrity” activities are already candidates to be screened out at first hurdle.

SHL is about speed AND accuracy. In the 2013 set, the way it got drawn out meant we had time to prepare. I remember closing from work at 5pm getting home and working SHL-style questions for hours before sleeping. Did that daily for however long and I still did not think I had passed when I wrote my SHL

I personally know a lot of “non-engineering” and even “non science related” persons who got the GT roles during the last recruitment

Imagine the kind of question a graduate is asking.

There are no right or wrong answers to this question. If you had said fewer/more than 5 sentences, they wouldn't have known.

This question is just a way of selling yourself. In my opinion, they just wanna throw you off balance. If you, but with what you wrote up there, you did well.

Next time, please, briefly include your experience(s). These days, companies hire base on experience rather than on education.
