U
horlatayorr:
Thought to put this out there for who cares to read.
Sometimes, life works in funny ways, ways beyond what your mind will easily track.

I was very doubtful upon writing the first test, I panicked and most of my answers were based on elimination with "strategic" guesses; I was unsure of most save about three questions; I thought it was over and paused to reflect on what had just happened as soon as i clicked the submit button. I felt the performance I had put in didn't reflect my cognitive abilities and I was displeased, knowing I could have done way better.

New year came, more persons were invited to write the test and my doubts persisted. Fastforward to when groups started buzzing with "invitation to second level ability test" again; I worriedly laid in bed clinging on to the slightest ray of hope, and at about the 20th reload, the mail dropped! In that moment, I felt the Universe had come together to make this happen; and took it as another chance to make things happen. So, I prepared like my life depended on it; I barely had any sleep in the build up to the Assessment. What didn't I do? I simulated the pressure levels of the real test; especially the Numerical Reasoning, solving 4 questions in 6 minutes (1.5mpq--minutes per question), as opposed to 10 questions in 18 minutes (1.8mpq) in the real test. Practiced all the behavioural questions I could find, watched videos on how to approach them in Organisational context; NLNG in this case, didn't spare the Inductive Reasoning either.

No long talk, I wrote the test and was confident I had put in a great performance. 5 questions into the Numerical test, I had used only 6 minutes and had over 12 minutes left, every ounce of pressure disappeared for me, and I calmly solved through the questions. From my practice, I could see through the tricky nature of the JFA questions, and the patterns of the Inductive were a complete walkover, at least, so I thought. Completed the assessment, and I stood up hitting my fist against the air "Upper cut style" in celebration of what I thought was a stellar performance, said prayers to God and went on to reward myself with food for what had been an intense past couple of weeks filled with sleepless nights.

Should we fast forward again or jump? Let's jump! grin Jumping to when the infamous "mails don dey drop o" touched base like a US F-15E Strike Fighter Jet, but this time in WhatsApp groups. Tensed, but very hopeful, I picked my phone to check my mail and I indeed got a mail notification.......but not from my dearly beloved NLNG. lipsrsealed grin. And, I've still been reloading, this time around not for the one I'd hoped to get. Sad, yeah?

But, in that moment, I realised that the only thing you owe to yourself is to leave it all on the table at every chance you get! And, I indeed left it all out. Reminds me of the "Chelsea vs Real Madrid 2022 UCL Clash"; Chelsea clearly deserved the win but Modric's nasty pass to Rodrygo sent all their efforts down the drain; Reece James said after that match " We left it all out there and sometimes it just isn't enough". I don't like chelsea fans, though, but you get the point grin. Sometimes, everytime, you've got to leave it all out and even if it isn't enough? You go again with more fire!

Regardless, I still look forward to visiting RA (Fun fact: Streets in NLNG RA are named after Cities in Nigeria e.g Akure, Abuja, etc. I don really do research mehn grin), taking a swim in the pool and using the gym, also seeing the renovated Finima Park and enjoying the peace and quiet of Nature at the Finima Beach.

This life thing, yeah? And, yes, i'm still reloading. grin

Thank you for reading!
What a similar experience we had. Though, I wasn't sure of my numerical, but trusted God. I still believe that he didn't fail me. Perhaps he got better things in store for me.

Omo... I did sleepless nights o. I recalled walking to and fro our gated compound around 11pm one of the preparation nights, reading the NLNG's codes of conduct, just to have more elaborated and unique explanation of their core values, and also understand the dos and the don'ts of the organisation. But like they say, we plan, but God is the best of planners

Mark05:
Indeed from last thread (2022/2023) no success mails were sent after the first mail. I went through that thread last week. Saw how people's hope got slowly crushed as they expected a second wave before regret mails which also annoyingly came till like 24th of the month.

Like someone said above don't give us any motivational talk.
I have removed hope of getting any success mail.

But what really pissed me off is the fact I was initially not even shortlisted to take assesment I have never heard of the company till last year I didn't even know their benefits. It's as I got re shortlisted again after the first batch test. I wrote the first one and passed and second assessment. I would like to believe I did good. 5 numerical reasoning questions am sure where correct and two more done in a rush. The process simulation I am normally a gamer too so doing multiple things at once was not much of a challenge, I only later lost track of the temperature 3rd count.. JFA is just went with the best option which mainly focused on teamwork.

So in essence they should have just left me there when I was not shortlisted and forgot about it as I knew nothing about the company then. Than to not progress when I got a second chance and they were saying all that talk in their mail about wanting to give more people opportunity..

I already said it in the page the mail started dropping that since I didn't see it initially I have accepted my faith so moving on.

For those still hoping things can change this year too.

I think one thing that made it a bit easy for me was when I saw the notice to check the mail by 4pm yesterday the new mail I saw was test assessment mail from KPMG. 🤭 The timing was funny like universe saying don't stress too much try this one
Your last paragraph about the mail was similar to my experience yesterday

Not really, you just have to be eligible, given the campaign requirements.

At the advertisement of the last, I was 6 months into service (NYSC) and I was 22 at the time, I didn’t apply until after the career fair when they mentioned that those still serving can apply but they should’ve finished before the end of the process, I finished service a week to my AC or so, hence I’m eligible to apply for this as I’ve got an NYSC not earlier than 2021 and I’m 25, not that age is a requirement sha, but yeah, that’s it.

I’ll drop my experience when there’s feedback for the next stage, so I can either vomit all information (if I don’t make it) or withhold certain details to maintain a competitive edge (if I make it), I hope you understand that though, information is power.🙃
Absolutely. Thank you for your response

Exactly this minute, 11:41AM, 3 years ago today, I was celebrating my progression to the NLNG GT recruitment AC, it meant a lot to me back then, wonderful feeling when you know you’re just one step closer to your dream.

Hopefully I make it again this time around, can’t wait to have my sweet revenge, Insha Allah.

Happy Easter Celebration to all our Christian colleagues.
Thought one could only apply once in a lifetime, given that they placed restriction on NYSC and probably age.

Given the fact that you've been through the AC stage before, you should also tell us your experience, maybe 🙂

Good morning guys. I'll be done with NYSC next month. Any advice, and how can I best position myself in the job market?

I'm a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, 2'1.
Make a standard CV, start applying graduate trainee roles ( if you haven't already), start preparing for aptitude tests (using GMAT, SHL materials etc), start preparing for practical ways to scale through interviews ( I mean real practical ways). Interviews are not just means to emphasise things you can do. Most interviewers are more interested in things you've done, no matter how small they are. Just present and package them well. Yes, you're a fresh graduate, but you must've served somewhere, such as your PPA. What are your measurable achievements? e.g., I increased safety wears implementation by 85%, etc. No matter how small or irrelevant these achievements may seem to you, mentioning them especially for interview questions that requires the STAR method, may make you standout among your peers. They aren't expecting much from you, though. But do well to stand out

Ella B! Drop the “Boss” abeg…loooool. I nor too old laidat.

The way you outlined it sounds about right. Notified of success, then asked to indicate city (Lagos, Abuja PHC) closest to your current location, then final invite indicating venue and date of your AC
Sir, but I saw a comment from 2022 batch, where someone mentioned that they were sent mail to submit docs, but didn't get AC invite mail eventually. Does this imply that they got success mail for the test, and eventually didn't make it to the AC stage

😊 why did you “delete”? You are right that there will always be doubters as shown in 2022. But the doubters often reduce the resistance when they see valuable points. Since AI became widely available, all that has changed. People want to talk from a point of “authority” believing that AI is infallible and 💯% accurate.

And as you pointed out, the recruitment is entirely merit driven. I’ve seen a lot of people say NLNG jobs have already been given to children of top politicians. This wasn’t my experience at all. Many (if not all) of the GTs at the time will tell you “na God”. And I understand why, cos omo I met some very very intelligent and experienced people as fellow GTs; and I was wondering how I made it. I’m not saying I’m dull but you will see some mad intelligent people and be pinching yourself to be sure that you are as intelligent and as qualified as them.
That's where the grace of God comes into play.

I don first tell you say anyhow e be ogoro must jump. From what I’m reading, not only should I point the right direction, apparently I must hand hold and walk everyone there too. Spoon feed as horlartayor aptly put it.

I’m not going to do that. Anyone in a “death race” such as this that is waiting to be spoon fed, is not hungry enough. This race is for the 1% of the 1%.

Anyway, I’m going to hold back on “free consulting” and allow the expert, highly experienced, highly sought-after, paid resident consultant drive the conversation

But the material your mentor used he didn't pass the assessment center.
Lol.... Someone who got the job, worked there ( for as long as God willed), left when his role wasn't in alignment with his desired career path ( according to him). His previous colleagues had testified to this multiple times. Plus, you've been referred to nlng 2013 GTrecruitment couple of times ( the facts are there), I went through most of the pages ( in fact, I personally got inspired by his story- one of the things that kept me believing that if God could do it for him even when he doubted his own performance at every stage, He will do mine as well). Up until his PEME stage, I went through his posts.

Sincerely, I'm not taking sides. Go through these past applicants' experiences, and let them inform the content of your material. I can't remember him outrightly criticising you for using AI. Yes. He used it to explain the SHL MAP, but that was just for us to have in depth understanding, I guess.

I will say it again ( not to ruin yours or anyone's business, but to save others from wasting money), that the material you keep advertising here, lacks originality. The consolation I gave to my self after going through it was that it's just ₦1500, but some people cannot afford to lose even ₦1000, you know? Same applies to me, but I've lost it anyway, and shouldn't watch others do the same.

Now let's go back to the e-book, you posted an e-book filled with scenarios yet no solutions about how a candidate can constructively answer those scenarios, I referred applicants to study guide (https://selar.com/nlngassessmentcenter) with respect to Assessment Center that contains practice scenario questions and how candidates can answer these questions and you all collectively condemned it, I'm extremely disappointed, you don't have access to the resources you have not even seen it yet you are condemning it, like who does that, I am not understanding at all.
Note, I'm not taking sides. I gullibly bought your materials probably few days after the SHL's, and I must say that I was utterly disappointed. Apparently AI generated, no exhaustive or detailed explanation, guide or info. Take this as feedback, rather than fighting back: you could do better with the material - learn from those who have truly undergone the process, and develop your contents from their experiences ( however, in a professional manner).

If the options are safety, teamwork, and customer focus and you pick customer focus as least preferred, it doesn’t mean you don’t care about customers. It just means that in that specific scenario, the other two felt more critical.

All in all we pray and hope for positive feedback ending of this month/ early april

it actually does

The first two options you pick usually reflect your strongest behavioural preferences (like safety, teamwork, leadership, continuous improvement), while the one you leave out is your least preferred in that scenario.

As an engineering candidate, I leaned more towards safety, teamwork, leadership, and upskilling because they align with my strengths. But I don’t think it’s strictly graded by course it’s more about consistency and how well your choices align with the company’s values overall.
And the ones one didn't choose( least preferred), does it they take it as though it doesn't apply to one at all?

2 weeks? I thought the deadline of the first test was December ending. That means it took about a month if I’m correct.
They eventually sent invites to some applicants who were originally sent regret mail, and I think they were given until 17th of January or so to take their test. So, I guess she started counting from that day. They sent the second level assessment on the 30th of January.

there is this one specific question in the job-focused section. It asked which of these best describes me? I do not review others' private information…I accept instructions from my managers and the last option was all about supporting how my organization can build stronger ties with my communities. I was just like if you're looking to work with a company like NLNG, you literally need all three! You can’t leak private info, you must follow your manager, and you have to maintain that community relationship. That was the moment I realized those guys really came prepared to stretch our thinking

I can't remember most of the questions, but I don't recall getting so much with regards to safety. I was getting drilled on interpersonal skills and team spirit type questions.

Say, are you an engineering graduate? 🤔
Same. Maybe it's safe to say safety questions were mostly peculiar to Engineering. I chose business related prior the commencement, and i was getting things like team, would like to know about other culture (guessing they are measuring inclusivity), continuous improvement, speaking clearly for people to understand, if i would partake in workplace politics or so, would listen to my manager instruction, would work in isolation and so on..... omo ......... It's God's hands. The numerical especially, scares the hell out of me

Don't let the outcome of this define you at all! I know of someone who "failed" the GT recruitment and got hired a few years later through the Experience Hire. So do not despair. In fact be positive until you hear otherwise
I scaled through the first stage. God did, even though I highly doubted if I would scale through. Thanks for you words of encouragement.

I did the second stage last week, and even though I'm still having the kind of emotion I had after the first stage ( uncertainty), I've made a decision that in this state of uncertainty and while trusting Almighty Allah, I will begin my AC prep. If in the end I scale through (Alhamdulilah), if the opposite happens (Alhamdulilah).

I would like you to educate me about how your AC went then and the preparatory materials that you used. I understand that going by how this current recruitment is going, it may be quite different from the traditional way of NLNG's recruitment process. However, whatever knowledge I acquire during my preparation will definitely come in handy, no matter how novel the upcoming AC may be.

I had to tag you this way so that you could recall me. Thank you for your kindness. May God reward you.
