In my opinion as a facilitator in the youwin connect 2017, the YouWiN Connect is deliberately not saying much about the funding aspect of the YouWiN! Connect. It is so that they can attract more Nigerians who are sincerely interested in starting or growing their businesses. this is because any such persons would also be interested in every aspect of their business and not just funding. Having said these, I want to assure you that YouWiN Connect has funding SMEs as part of its core objectives. However this time, they have not called it ‘Grant’ but ‘Series Fund’.
This is how YouWiN Connect defines its Series Fund;

What this implies is that the fund coming from YouWiN Connect this time is neither a grant nor a loan, but an equity investment. This is a modern international standard unique form of business financing that makes the fund provider an investor/shareholder in the business they are financing/funding.
Let me help you understand these terminologies and their implications properly as regards business financing.

But please there is one aspect of equity financing you failed to address, Can we exercise the right to buy these investors out because in my line of profession, I have a tad bit of knowledge about what venture sharks are capable of, as you are aware most times they demand that the articles of association endow them the right to hire and fire an underperforming CEO, frontline creditor settlement status in event of liquidation as well as the usual "30".
One more thing, these VCs you mentioned, are they representing the FG? I.e is the FG acting through them or are they the core investors in their corporate capacity, reason am asking being that I presume bank VC stipulations should be stiffer than FGs.

In my professional opinion (Am a Lawyer) disclaimers are simply intended to avoid liability by the YouWINconnect organisers to pay damages or render any sort of monetary and/or in kind restitution to participants in event of discontinuance of the program. So it doesn't mean deserving persons will not get what they worked for, it just helps the organisers evade legal liability in event of the program being shut down for unforeseen reasons. Please where did you get this info from?. I have gone through the threads for previous winners and I didn't see any indication that 5000 were shortlisted in the other years. Apparently 1300 were shortlisted and they were all paid.
