Na so we go dey confused and undecided until we split votes of the young and competent and hand power to that old and senile goat running this Country into the ground. oceanwhale4u: In my opinion as a facilitator in the youwin connect 2017, the YouWiN Connect is deliberately not saying much about the funding aspect of the YouWiN! Connect. It is so that they can attract more Nigerians who are sincerely interested in starting or growing their businesses. this is because any such persons would also be interested in every aspect of their business and not just funding. It is also an attempt to disabuse the minds of an average Nigerian SME that funding is not the most important factor in business growth. Capacity development, which is more of what YouWiN! Connect is doing through most of its programme, is even more important than funding. Having said these, I want to assure you that YouWiN Connect has funding SMEs as part of its core objectives. However this time, they have not called it ‘Grant’ but ‘Series Fund’. This is how YouWiN Connect defines its Series Fund; Source: www.youwinconnect.org.ng . it is an annual venture capital fund set up by the federal ministry of finance which will offer equity investment to early stage SMEs and starts up through qualified top fund managers. The federal ministry of finance may as well be the fund managers herself. Or can assign these responsibilities to independent fund mangers. There are both banking and non banking fund managers( banking fininacial managers includes Stanbic IBTC asset management limited,FBN capital limited,UBA asset management limited, "investment one "founded by Guaranty trust bank ,zenith capital limited and sterling asset management limited other non bank financial managers includes: Asset and resources management limited (ARSM) and chapel denham groups) so as to grow and develop the young start ups and early SMEs businesses under a co investment model. What this implies is that the fund coming from YouWiN Connect this time is neither a grant nor a loan, but an equity investment. This is a modern international standard unique form of business financing that makes the fund provider an investor/shareholder in the business they are financing/funding. Let me help you understand these terminologies and their implications properly as regards business financing.
The Fmf youwin connect Equity financing or co investment model of a series funding. This is a kind of business funding where a group of investors called venture capitalists groups provide funds to businesses in exchange for a specified share in your business for a specified period of time or until they decide to quit. It is just like you have a rich uncle who has been doing business over the years, and you have a business idea or a growing business that requires funds to grow. You approach your uncle to give you money to inject into your business, and he says fine, I will do that, but you will allow co-own the business with you. It is a win-win, you get the money you need and he becomes a shareholder in your business. Venture capitalists or equity investors usually become involved in the key decision-making process of your business (not the day-to-day running of the business) as board members usually through their appointed fund managers. This is probably the best form of business financing for any truly sincere entrepreneur, because you have nothing to lose, except a 100% control of your business. Venture capital investors are usually very experienced in business and so coming into your business, they would bring their expertise and experiences and help your business to grow more than you would have done alone. Again, in the case that your business did not pick up as you both envisaged, or in the worst case scenario fail, they simply walk away and you would owe them nothing. The only bad side is that you lose some control over your business Your explanation manifests a lot of competence. But please there is one aspect of equity financing you failed to address, Can we exercise the right to buy these investors out because in my line of profession, I have a tad bit of knowledge about what venture sharks are capable of, as you are aware most times they demand that the articles of association endow them the right to hire and fire an underperforming CEO, frontline creditor settlement status in event of liquidation as well as the usual "30". One more thing, these VCs you mentioned, are they representing the FG? I.e is the FG acting through them or are they the core investors in their corporate capacity, reason am asking being that I presume bank VC stipulations should be stiffer than FGs. |

ikelords: N.B: Please note that this email is sent without prejudice to the prerogative of the Federal Government of Nigeria to withdraw, terminate or modify the YouWiN! Connect Program at any time without notice to you.
Pls someone should explain what they meant by this disclaimer notice! In my professional opinion (Am a Lawyer) disclaimers are simply intended to avoid liability by the YouWINconnect organisers to pay damages or render any sort of monetary and/or in kind restitution to participants in event of discontinuance of the program. So it doesn't mean deserving persons will not get what they worked for, it just helps the organisers evade legal liability in event of the program being shut down for unforeseen reasons. I hope that helped. |

kobosmalls: I grew up and found out that other adults around me are stupid enough to think that fairytales should be taken seriously. Besides, what is the meaning of this nonsense you call english language "Surely your anger displays here are more like emotional outbursts than logical arguments and I for one know that real atheists are not emotional about their belief in the non existence of a God, they are matter of factly about it..." Yhu have broken several rules of logic in your comments, attacking the person instead of the point I made, resort to force et all. More so you will find my English is above your degree grade. Please do well to resist further temptations of derailing this thread. It's for YouWIN not for your personal emotional gabbage. It's time yhu realized no one gives a Bleep about what you believe. Can't you people see? Kobosmalls definitely definitely has some emotional issues, people like that were probably staunch believers in God until something very nasty happened to them. What is it kobosmalls? Surely your anger displays here are more like emotional outbursts than logical arguments and I for one know that real atheists are not emotional about their belief in the non existence of a God, they are matter of factly about it... So what's up? What's the big event in your life that has got you so bleeped up? |

Godiswise: True..........No man is an island really...this inclass stage is the most sensitive stage, no Matter how grace we have been, heaven helps those who helped themselves....prayers, hardwork, and network
Youwin2 had 5000 females master class shortlisted, only 1200 got funded.. Youwin 3 had 5000 master class shortlisted, only 2500 got funded..source (youwin wikipedia)
Technically, not all 5000'will get the youwin connect! fund series
I was actually trying to share the whatapp link of the master class youwinners....but it's not allowed here........ Please where did you get this info from?. I have gone through the threads for previous winners and I didn't see any indication that 5000 were shortlisted in the other years. Apparently 1300 were shortlisted and they were all paid. Besides I watched an interview where Mrs. K Adeosun was explaining the fact that they are increasing the number this year and generally improving the program. Please can yhu provide an authentic source of this your comment or stop peddling unverifiable information. |

Afrikprice: Toyota Avalon. This is the only car that is worthy to be parked in a garage full of Bentleys.
It shows class when you drive it, especially when you top it up with a suit as the driver. It definitely suits Nigerian bankers.
The sleek design is something else. Toyota Avalon's fluency in luxuriousness and exhilarating extroversions isn't restrained to its provocative looks.
It can overtake a Presidential convoy of Toyota Prados without any members of the convoy seeing its red light.
It's like the Lamborghini Huracan for a Nigerian road.
