I hope some people won't run for the borders when this man resumes work. I have a feeling crazy, drastic and uncommon decisions will be made by this man. Exactly what Nigeria needs.

I thought you were one of those regaling us with how GEJ built our economy to such a high level that it has become the largest economy in Africa and the 26th largest in the world? Did you not paint a picture of a very healthy economy all along courtesy of the miracles of St Jona? Were you knowingly telling us lies then?

I don't even want to go into the reserves the sick Yar'adua left or the excess crude account or the almost zero debt GEJ met or fact that this 'poverty stricken country' sold 2m barrels of oil/day at over $100/barrel for over 3 years which came to an end less than a year ago.
Delicious food for thought !

Yes flyovers and the rest but Lagos is going to expand through another corridor; Epe into Ijebu back linking Ikorodu and forming a long strip of economic areas into Ogun waterside and Olokola deep seaport in Ondo state. Don't bother too much, many immigrants will settle in fringes of Ogun State
The planned route of the 4th mainland bridge should take care of most this. Still, nothing can replace the need for a passenger and freight rail network linking these projects within the state, as well as to other future logistical hubs within the SW region.

Cash is the key. 2 trillion Naira is a very conservative estimate.

doctokwus:
Its not as simple as that.
There are 2 main fears and correctly so any person so skilled or even ordinary helpers have in Nigeria:
(1)You try to help and d person gives up: you would b shocked to d number of people that would now cite d helper as d cause of death of d victim and your life is forever changed, assuming u are lucky to get out of d case.
(2)The police in Nigeria can even make d most strong willed to ignore a victim of a crime or medical issue. They are so horrible that d helper most times becomes d accused, gets thumped in jail and if lucky spends enormous sums to secure bail, just because he/she acted d good Samaritan.
Nigerians are a nice caring lot but ignorance and a totally bankrupt police system makes many to act over cautiously.
You're right its a cold world out there... Nigeria.

You and Grandstar are right.

That's the problem I have with the Lekki exp way expansion.

No BRT Lane!
No rail line!
Oversized roundabouts instead of bridges!

Looks like proper planning was not done.

I fear we are heading for a major traffic disaster on the road - that's if it is not here yet!
We need several flyovers along that Lekki expressway , at the very least.
imagine refineries, depots, and tankers along that area. Then add a Seaport and the resulting traffic from all of these. The chaos arising from such is best imagined.

What Lagos needs now is rail rail RAIL !!!

All you are doing here is ranting without objectivity. Eko Atlantic City pre-dates Fashola's regime. It is not Fashola's project but Fashola had no logical reason to discontinue a private-sector funded project that extensive EIA (Environmental impact assessment) shows is entirely safe and viable. Unless you are more published and learned than the many world-class experts who had given the project the go-ahead then I suggest you stop making sentimental statements not supported by established facts. The EIA for the Eko Atlantic City project can be accessed using the link below for those who wish to conquer ignorance and unfounded hearsay.

http://www.ekoatlantic.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/EkoAtlantic-EIA-Summary.pdf
You are free to your opinions, biased or otherwise. However the case, any report neglecting to state the lifespan of such a project is being economical with the truth. Even Julius Berger put a 50 years lifespan on the Lekki peninsular.

Environmentalists screaming about the impact of the massive dredging ongoing in Lagos are ignorant and spreading unfounded hearsay ? The news reports monitoring the effects on Lagos beaches are hearsay huh Lol ! Not your fault, really.... !

Marina seats on reclaimed land, just thought you should know
Yes, I'm told it does.

However, the scale of dredging activities for current projects is upsetting a fragile balance along parts of Lekki peninsula. You need to stop at some point.
PoliticsRe: Construction Work Begins On N325bn Lekki Seaport by stevecantrell: 12:22am On May 20, 2015
grandstar:
You do have a point.

All governments want to be known for growth and development.

Even if the money was available to upgrade the transport network, the logistics involved is nightmarish.

For instance, the recently expanded Lekki Road will need a either a tram service or metro. How will you build one as there is no space.
Usually the rail line to all these projects are mapped out before the sites are commissioned. Lagos has serious problems on the way and many can't see that yet.

grandstar:
You forgot Atlantic city
Atlantic city is laudable project, no doubt.
But ecologically , its unsafe. Its yet another megalomaniac project of egotistical Fasola.
Reclamation of land involved in the project is damaging the Lagos coastline in other areas.Bar beach and its environs are still under serious threat.
Because it worked in Dubai, doesn't mean it will necessarily work well in Lagos. We should allow other SW states like Ogun have a fair share of the burden of industrialisation. Lagos is really to small to take all this on without somekind of repercussion on the land and the people.

grandstar:
You are right and also wrong.

Once there is money to be made, people will gravitate there despite the madness.

I remember when there was no Third Mainland bridge. Traffic jam on Ikorodu Road used to be something else.

The more things change, the more they seem to stya the same

To build a mass transit system to effectively cover Lagos State will cost about 2 trillion naira. Nothing less
For sure ppl will continue to run to Lagos, but what about the quality of life ?

The same thing happened UK during Tony Blair's Labour government.
The whole globe was gravitating to UK and settling there .Within 5 years UK quality of life and living standards fell, the natives blamed it on the 60 million population strain , mostly immigrants, on a small island (UK). Right wing anti immigrant parties like the BNP soon came to prominence.

This is on of the key issues leading to Labours loss to the Tories later on.

An overcrowded Lagos will hurt Lagos without a proper masterplan. Fashola is megalomaniac , what's so special in that ? It is good planning that makes sustainable progress, not commissioning projects randomly every week.

Without a comprehensive rail network, you are creating one hell of an over-populated, log-jammed and overrated city which no sane person would love to live in.

Lagos population is on the way to 40 million...its becoming like the UK but without a dedicated rail network.

There's nothing great about having fantastic infrastructure when the whole Nigeria wants to move to Lagos.

Lagos State alone can't absorb all this population and industrial pressure, Island in particular.

Buhari was well ahead of his time.. the U.S kidnap British Muslims and export them to Guantanamo bay.
They even gave it a fancy name 'Extraordinary Rendition'.

UK are hypocrites.
