What people are hiding to do in the north, or do you expect a young girl from Kebbi to tell you what she did so they can punish her with Sharia?"

Due to fear of harsh consequences (like those under Sharia law), some individuals, particularly vulnerable ones like young girls, may hide certain actions or choices.

Christianity EtcGospel Song In The Club by steveodo(op): 6:58pm On Jun 08, 2025
Internet on fire after video of a DJ playing "No turning back" by Lawrence oyor in a club surface online

A gospel song came on in the middle of a club night, people were dancing, sweating, vibing like it was just another hit track. Then an argument broke out. Some people said, “Gospel music belongs in the church.”

But for me, the real issue isn’t about where the song is played, but what the song does to the people listening.

The important question is this:
Did the gospel song spark something deeper? Was there a moment of sober reflection? Did it touch someone’s heart, shift their mindset, or plant a seed for change?
Or did people just dance to it like any other song, with no real connection to the message?

Because the true power of gospel music is not in the beat, it’s in the message. And the message is only as powerful as the response it evokes. If people are dancing, crying, pausing, or reflecting, that’s the real impact. That’s ministry beyond walls.

What do you think?
Does playing a gospel song in a club still carry spiritual weight, or is it just background noise in the middle of a vibes

PoliticsThe Moment Young Engineer Called Reno Omokri "Mumu" by steveodo(op):
Could This Young Engineer Be the Weapon Fashioned Against Reno Omokri?

After Reno Omokri claimed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road was 30 kilometres long, Rufai Oseni of Arise News challenged the accuracy. A young Nigerian engineer later confirmed Rufai’s position, explaining that the “30” Reno referenced actually meant 30 kilometres per hour (km/h) a speed limit, not distance. Using technical clarity and calm authority, the engineer corrected the misinformation and ended with the now-viral remark: “ mumu.”
The statement wasn’t personal, it was factual and bold.
Together, Rufai and the engineer showed that truth still speaks louder than spin.

Enough is Enough: A Cry Against Police Brutality in Benue State
By Ukan Kurugh

In the early hours of today, at Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi, officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Benue State Command, E Division, opened fire on a vehicle carrying two young people — Emmanuel Ahejir, a student of Business Management at Federal University Wukari, and her boyfriend. They were allegedly returning from a night club.

Emmanuel was unarmed. She posed no threat. Yet, she was shot and killed instantly by those meant to protect her. Her life was taken without warning, her dreams stolen in a flash of gunfire.

This was not a stray bullet. It was a deliberate and reckless act. And it cannot be ignored.

We demand justice. The officers involved must be identified and brought to account through an open and immediate investigation. Emmanuel’s life mattered, and her death must not be swept aside.

If justice is denied, the people of Benue will not remain silent.

Enough is enough. Let this be a turning point.

PoliticsIs The Notice Regarding Unscheduled Visit To Benue State Because Of Peter Obi? by steveodo(op): 8:43pm On Apr 14, 2025
PRESS STATEMENT BY PETER OBI ON HIS VERIFIED FACEBOOK PAGE
Ordinarily, I would not have commented on this issue, as I have endured far worse situations in my political life since I declared for the presidency, and it continues to worsen as I strive to do things in a civilised and organized manner. The unfolding events demand that I have to start speaking out now.

On what transpired today during my planned visit to Benue State, I am not entirely sure that the state Governor, my dear younger brother, a Reverend Father I deeply respect, is aware of this situation. Having exhausted every possible means to reach him, I am compelled to use this available platform to ensure my message is conveyed.

On Thursday, the 10th of April, I had planned to visit Plateau and Benue State, respectively. Plateau on Sunday, the 13th of April 2025, and Benue on Monday, the 14th of April 2025. My trip included paying courtesy calls to the governors as well as visiting the IDP camps and schools of nursing in both states to give my support.

As is my practice, I reached out to the Plateau State government to inform them of my visit, which included spending the day with the victims at the IDP camp in Bokkos, a visit I wholeheartedly embraced to extend my support, care, and compassion to fellow Nigerians in need. And in his utmost hospitality, the Plateau State Governor graciously permitted.
In a similar vein, I tried repeatedly to contact the Benue State Governor directly without success. I then successfully contacted his ADC who told me that the governor was in a very important meeting and would call me before midnight on the same day.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get that call until Sunday evening when he sent me a message stating he had not been able to reach his principal since the day I called. I was disturbed by how an ADC would not have been able to reach his principal for 3 days.

However, because my visit to the governor was just for courtesy and respect, I decided to proceed with my trip to Makurdi.
Earlier today at 7am, I left Jos, and on reaching Akwanga at about 10am, my security team stopped and stated they received a press statement, purportedly from the Benue State Government, that appeared designed to stop my trip. Curiously while I was still talking with my security team on the issue, the Governors ADC sent the statement directly to me.

The letter refers exactly to my itinerary which I had earlier conveyed to the ADC directly and to the security operatives in Benue through my own security.

I am forced to remind them, and all concerned, that the purpose of this journey is to support good causes in areas of critical development: health and health education, education and caring for our people in need, and this is what I have done in my private life for years before getting into politics and even while in politics I have continued to do so.

Everyone knew then how I had to get permission from the then President, President Goodluck Jonathan, that I needed to visit Haiti during the earthquake.

I intended to visit a school being built by the bishop in Gboko, a Nursing school and an IDP camp, actions that reflect my genuine care for the welfare of our fellow citizens, and my continuous show of love, care and compassion to citizens who have been displaced.

May God help us as we rebuild our nation and aim to achieve a new Nigeria where we do not politicize everything but allow citizens to exist, and we all should live for the common good for less privileged Nigerians and those in need.

A new Nigeria is POssible.

PoliticsWhat's Your Take On the 30 Days Ranting Challenge by steveodo(op): 11:38am On Mar 25, 2025
The 30 Days Ranting Challenge in Nigeria: A Cry Against Inflation and Economic Hardship
Nigeria is currently witnessing an online and offline protest in the form of the 30 Days Ranting Challenge, where frustrated citizens are venting their anger over the rising cost of living, inflation, and the high exchange rate. The challenge, which has gained massive traction on social media, allows Nigerians to express their grievances daily for 30 days, highlighting how difficult life has become under the current administration.
The Root of the Ranting Challenge
The major cause of the outcry is the continuous depreciation of the Nigerian Naira against the US Dollar, leading to skyrocketing prices of goods and services. Basic necessities such as food, transportation, rent, and healthcare have become almost unaffordable for the average citizen.
For instance:
A bag of rice that used to sell for ₦30,000 now costs over ₦70,000.
Fuel prices have more than doubled.
The cost of imported goods has surged due to the high exchange rate.
The hardship has led to an increased sense of frustration among Nigerians, many of whom feel abandoned by the government.
Sheyi Tinubu's Stance: A Government in Denial?
Despite the public outcry, Sheyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has insisted that his father’s administration is one of the best in Nigeria’s history. This statement has sparked further outrage, as many Nigerians believe it is disconnected from the harsh realities they are facing.
Critics argue that the government has failed to provide effective economic solutions and that the leadership is out of touch with the suffering masses. However, government supporters claim that economic reforms take time and that Nigerians need to be patient.
Positive and Negative Effects of the 30 Days Ranting Challenge
Positive Effects
1. Increased Awareness – The challenge has drawn national and international attention to Nigeria’s economic crisis, forcing the government to acknowledge the people's struggles.
2. Citizens’ Unity – Nigerians across different tribes and religions have united under a common cause, showing solidarity against economic hardship.
3. Government Pressure – The challenge has put pressure on the government to address inflation, review economic policies, and find solutions to ease the suffering of the masses.
4. Encouragement of Free Speech – It has provided Nigerians with a platform to freely express their grievances without fear, strengthening democracy.
Negative Effects
1. Psychological Toll – Constant ranting about economic hardship can increase anxiety, stress, and hopelessness among citizens.
2. Potential Government Crackdown – The government may see the movement as a threat and could respond with censorship, arrests, or intimidation of vocal critics.
3. Investor Confidence – The widespread negativity about Nigeria’s economy might discourage foreign investors, worsening the economic situation.
4. Political Manipulation – Some political groups could hijack the movement for their own interests, diverting attention from real solutions.
What Next for Nigeria?
While the 30 Days Ranting Challenge has successfully amplified the voices of struggling Nigerians, the real question remains: Will the government listen and take meaningful action? Citizens are demanding economic reforms, stable exchange rates, price control measures, and policies that promote local production.
If the government fails to act, the frustration could escalate into more serious protests or civil disobedience. However, if leaders acknowledge the cries of the people and implement necessary changes, the challenge could serve as a turning point for economic recovery in Nigeria.
The next few weeks will determine whether this movement leads to real change or if it becomes another trend lost in history.

my question is , why is it that the most terrorised nations of the world are those with high percent of muslim?
essentialone1:
That statement is inaccurate and perpetuates a harmful stereotype. The assumption that all terrorists are Muslims is a misconception that has been debunked by numerous studies and experts.

Terrorism is a complex phenomenon that cannot be attributed to a single religion, ethnicity, or ideology. People from various backgrounds and faiths have been responsible for terrorist acts throughout history.

According to a study by the University of Maryland's Global Terrorism Database, between 2002 and 2018, only about 28% of terrorist attacks worldwide were carried out by groups affiliated with or inspired by Islamic extremism.

It's essential to recognize that the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful, law-abiding citizens who condemn terrorism and violence. Stereotyping and stigmatizing entire communities based on the actions of a few individuals can lead to harmful consequences, including increased Islamophobia, social exclusion, and radicalization.

It's crucial to promote nuanced understanding, respect, and inclusion, rather than perpetuating inaccurate and divisive stereotypes.

PoliticsRe: English Language Borrowed Many Words From IGBO. Discuss. by steveodo(m): 6:39pm On Sep 15, 2024
The assertion that the English language has borrowed many words from the Igbo language is a topic of debate among linguists and language enthusiasts. The Igbo language, which is part of the Niger-Congo family, is spoken by approximately 45 million people primarily in Nigeria and has a rich history and cultural significance. To explore this claim, it is essential to analyze the nature of language borrowing, the historical context of both languages, and specific examples cited in discussions.

Language Borrowing

Language borrowing occurs when one language takes words or phrases from another language. This phenomenon can happen for various reasons, including trade, colonization, migration, and cultural exchange. In the case of English and Igbo, historical interactions between English speakers (particularly during colonial times) and the Igbo people may have facilitated some degree of lexical borrowing.

Historical Context

The English language has a complex history influenced by various languages due to invasions and colonization. Latin, French, Germanic languages, and others have all contributed to its vocabulary. The interaction between English speakers and African languages occurred significantly during the colonial period when British colonizers established control over parts of Africa, including Nigeria.

While there are claims that certain English words derive from Igbo roots, it is crucial to approach these assertions critically. Many words in English are derived from Latin or Greek origins rather than directly from African languages.

Examples of Claimed Borrowings

Some proponents argue that specific words in English sound similar to their Igbo counterparts. For instance:

Animal (English) - Anụmanụ (Igbo)
Water (English) - Mmiri (Igbo)
Say (English) - Si (Igbo)
However, while these similarities exist phonetically, they do not necessarily indicate direct borrowing but could be coincidental or result from shared linguistic ancestry.

Linguistic Analysis

Linguistically speaking, both languages belong to different families with distinct grammatical structures and phonetic systems. The tonal nature of Igbo adds complexity to its vocabulary that does not directly translate into English phonetics or semantics. Furthermore, many linguists argue that while there may be superficial similarities between some words in both languages, substantial evidence supporting direct borrowing remains limited.

Additionally, as noted in discussions surrounding this topic, many believe that most English vocabulary stems primarily from Latin and Greek rather than African sources. This perspective suggests that while there may be isolated instances of borrowing or influence due to cultural exchanges over time, they are not widespread enough to substantiate claims that “English borrowed many words from Igbo.”

HealthMiracle Soap & Water: NAFDAC Probes Cleric, Seals Table Water Firm For Illegal A by steveodo(op): 2:55pm On Sep 08, 2024
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has alerted the public on the activities of Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries in Effurun, Delta State which, it said, uses its name to deceive the public.
The agency said the investigation followed petitions from concerned citizens about Senior Prophet Jeremiah Omoto of Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries with office in Km 5 Effurun, Sapele Road, Delta State on a miracle water and miracle soap being advertised with healing and miracle claims and sold to unsuspecting members of the public by the Spiritual Ministry.

A statement issued by the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, said the cleric showcased the use of miracle water and miracle soap on social media to heal barrenness.

Apart from claiming that the women would carry twins if they used the soap, NAFDAC said, “he openly told his congregation that the soap is NAFDAC registered.” Adeyeye said, “Thus, the public began to visit the office to confirm the claims. The petitioners also submitted the following products from the Spiritual Ministry to NAFDAC to verify the bogus claims. The products are: Miracle & Healing Water, River Jordan Water, The Miracle Water from The Pool of Bethsaida, A new beginning Mount Camel Miracle Water, Water of life, Miracle Water from The Pool of Bethsaida (1L), a New Beginning Pool of Bethsaida Water, and Father Smelled Perfume.
“Upon receipt of the petitions, NAFDAC, through the Director Post Marketing Surveillance (PMS) NAFDAC, contacted the Delta State Coordinator to ascertain the existence or records of any transaction with the Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries and the products in Delta State Office.

“The Coordinator was also directed to visit the Ministry to establish the veracity of the claims in the petitions and take necessary regulatory action on the production facility in the Ministry where the Miracle water and other products are produced. The State Coordinator covertly bought the Miracle Water (25cl) for 3000 naira from the Ministries and took the pictures.

On Wednesday August 14 2024, the State Coordinator Delta State visited the Mercy Land Ministry and met the Head of Service (HOS) – Mr. Ogunleye Fufeyin and the Chief Security Officer (CSO). The officials denied producing Miracle and Healing Water or Soap even with the evidence of the receipt of purchase. He claimed that only the Logo and address on the label were theirs but not the product.
“The HOS added that they only have a pool of Bethsaida water which is spiritual and artificial. The HOS requested time to meet with other staff and returned. He returned after 30 minutes and refused to cooperate, asking them to see the CSO.

On August 27 2024, a team of Investigation and Enforcement NAFDAC and Federal Task Force on Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods visited the Ministry, to commence investigation on the place of purchase or the manufacturing site for possible sample collection, for laboratory analysis, but the officials did not cooperate with the team.
“Letters of invitation was issued to the officials to report on August 28 but it was not honoured. The company instead submitted a Legal document at NAFDAC Headquarters Abuja on August 28 2024 and asked to come back on September 3 2024 to organise their document before coming.

The agency then gave the Prophet till 29 to report at investigation and Enforcement NAFDAC Office Asaba for further necessary investigation. Investigation and Enforcement Asaba waited for the Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries officials based on their earlier request to report for commencement of investigation, but they still refused to show up.

On September 3 2024, they forwarded some documents instead asking for more time to report. In a document, made available to NAFDAC Office in the evening of September 3, the faith organization claimed to have entered into a production contract agreement with Globod Table Water Km 4, DSC Expressway, Otokutu, Delta State without the knowledge of NAFDAC State Office in Delta State.

This act is illegal according to the extant rules and regulations on commercial production. In continuation of our investigation, NAFDAC Investigation and Enforcement has sealed Globod Table Water factory for aiding and abetting the production, sale and advertisement of unregistered and unwholesome Miracle Water under the pretext of Fake NAFDAC Registration Number.
“At this point, it is very clear that Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, KM 5, is not ready to present itself for investigation of production and advertisement of suspected falsified, unwholesome, and unregistered “Miracle” products.

NAFDAC wishes to inform the public that none of these products being advertised and sold are registered with NAFDAC. The public is also being advised to stop patronizing any of these Miracle products. NAFDAC is scientific organization that is guided by verifiable scientific facts before registering any product.

In the meantime, we will continue with our investigation into the activities of this faith organization with regards to products within our mandates that have been reported to be manufactured and sold by them. I want to use this opportunity to warn either faith organizations against illegal production of regulated product without requisite regulatory requirements.

I want to assure Nigerians of our resolve to continue safeguarding health of the citizens.
