TravelRe: Parenting In The UK As A Nigerian Migrant. by Stevepop: 6:40pm On Mar 11, 2022
Hi all- I'm on Tier 2 visa, we just had our baby recently and we have been getting conflicting information regarding adding the baby as our dependant and getting a Nigerian passport.
Aside from not paying IHS, are there any benefit of not adding the baby as a dependant? Will it influence ILR or citizenship later down the line? I read the baby won't be able to access secondary care after 3 months, if we don't get her BRP. Just wanted to know if there are any benefits of not getting a naija passport or BRP for the baby. Thank you.

For car owners, please is it absolutely necessary to have a dash cam fitted to your car? I know it comes in handy during accident especially when you are not at fault cheesy.. Just confused if I need one or not...Can you please recommend a good one that is pocket friendly, reviews on Amazon are so conflicting? Thanks

Check service history if the car has any. Service history is important, because otherwise you might have to invest in some expensive brushing up maintenance when you buy (timing belt, brake pads, etc). Check the tyres too carefully, so you don't have to start replacing them immediately or soon after you buy, tyres are expensive (no tokunbo or chinko to help the less deep-pocketed here). Get yourself breakdown insurance (very worthwhile investment), all of them, RAC, AA, Green Flag are all the same, so choose any you like, add indispensable kit like a tyre pump and you're good to go. Check when the MOT's due, so you have some breathing space in between buying and doing the next one.

Just remember that old cars of that price range will have high mileage so will have almost zero resale value, so once you buy, you'll most likely have to scrap it when you're done with it. Also remember that at that price point, any sizeable repair (think clutch replacement, for instance) might mean simply scrapping the car and buying another.
Thanks for the tips. The cheapest insurance based on quotes from confused.com requires blackbox, are there any other disadvantage to this other than the fact that ones movement is monitored?

Bri, what is this thing am hearing that I need to spend 183 days before getting a um license.

I have my international license here but I need a uk drivers license too.

How do I go about it?
You should be able to use your int'l license to drive in the UK for a year, on the expiration of the one year, you'll have spent 185 days in the UK. I had to sign the attached before taking my practical test.

Had my driving test today (first time), and I failed. Feeling really bad right now. The sun decided to come out today of all days, and the reflection on the wet grounds made me lose track of my lane while crossing the roundabout, thus causing brief obstruction for the car behind. That momentary lapse in concentration cost me the test. I'm sure my instructor must think I'm dumb cos she knows I'm very familiar with the roundabout. Had other 3 minors, manoeuvres and parking were good. Feeling sad cry cry cry . End of rants. Anyone mind sharing their driving test experience and maybe any tip to pass the next one.
Thank you Mamatukwas and Marylandcakes for the encouragement. I took the test again today and passed. smiley smiley smiley

Hello Everyone.
Please I need an advice on how to go about doing my medicals. I am travelling to the UK for my master’s program by February ending and I am expecting ITA soon with (CRS 472), But since there has been no draw of recent, I want to ask if I can do my medicals in the UK while using my Nigeria Bank account as POF and also doing police report in Nigeria before leaving.
Note: No available dates to do medical in February b4 leaving.
Yes, you can do your med in UK, cost about £330, did mine in December in London, though the price made me wish I was in Nigeria. Better to leave youe POF in naira but ensure you get in touch with your relationship manager to confirm they can provide the letter to you by proxy or via mail to avoid stories when the time comes. You can do the report before leaving but take note that it expires after 3 months, I did mine from the UK, scanned the completed form to a friend who helped in going to Alagbon.

Hi, please I'll appreciate clarification regarding this
1) I got reference letter from Company A where I worked for four years. I currently work with Company B where I have spent 1.5years. Do I need a letter from Company B as well? Or just state it in my personal history.
2) I have done my medical and I was sent the result as well. Should I just upload the information sheet or I should add the result as well?
Your response will be appreciated.

Hi, please I'll appreciate clarification regarding my application. My name as stated on my passport is Steven Oluwaseun Popoola, but on some of my documents, it's only Steven Popoola

1) Please will an LOE suffice for this or I have to do an affidavit?

2) I live in UK, is it possible to do an affidavit from Nigeria and get it scanned or it has to be from UK?

I'll appreciate your response please. Thanks so much.
