Family / Re: Is It Possible To Discipline A Child Without Flogging Him Or Her? by Stillluvnaija: 10:30am On Oct 16, 2013
House, I need your candid opinion. My 20 month old daughter (Only child for now) is getting stubborn and spoilt. I feel like getting a cain to flog her once in a while when she is very naughty but mostly to use the cain to threaten her but am not sure if it is still too early.
Any suggestions as I would not like her to get spoilt or become more heady.

Second question, she has refused to eat any solid food ( We have tried eba, yam, beans, bread, rice etc ) but she does not seem to like it and is currently underweight by up to 1kg. She only manages to eat cereals and that's about it. Any advice as to how to break this jinx? My wife did 6 months exclusive breastfeeding and she was much bigger then than now. Can we force her to eat solid food? What of the risk of choking?

For processing fees, do you pay cash in Naira or dollars or can you pay by card?

House I would like to check if the CO takes the medical report after the interview or if they give it back to you?? My wife is about 7 months pregnant and wanted to check if we would have access to see what is indicated in the medical report. Thanks

bro Olamoyegun,

1. Each applicant will need to obtain an original birth certificate issued by the official custodian of birth records in the country of birth, showing the date and place of birth and the parentage of the applicant, based upon the original registration of birth. Submit to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at your interview. Important Notice: All Immigrant Visa applicants must submit a long form original birth certificate. Short form birth certificates will not be accepted.

The certificate must contain the:

Person's date of birth;
Person's place of birth;
Names of both parents; and,
Annotation by the appropriate authority indicating that it is an extract from the official records.

hence, NPC ATTESTATION IS REQUIRED FROM HER TOO

source; http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/visa_4760.html

2. if you can get your transcript, its good but if difficult to get, gather some proof of studentship given by your institution and evidence of NYSC, with these I feel u r good to go.

wishing all of us success in our coming interviews.

i hope it helps?

Thanks for dat. You are great!. But I also read on the travel.state.gov website that the NPC attestation is given only for births after 1992! What happens for those of us that were born before then? I have a short form original (less than half page) birth certificate given to my parents at the hospital, is this acceptable considering that general birth certificate information says that short form birth certificates are not acceptable?

Secondly My wife does not have birth certificate and born before 1992, is NPC acceptable considering the below quote on the government website? Can you advise us please as both of us were not born in Lagos.

"
Documents
Birth and Death Certificates
Generally available, particularly for events occurring after 1970. Registration of births and deaths is compulsory in Lagos. The National Population Commission issues birth certificates for births after 1992.

For Lagos records, certified copies of records for dates ending with 1979 can be obtained at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Old Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos. For records after 1979, contact the local government that issued the original certificate directly. Most births and deaths outside of Lagos are also registered at the time of the event. Applicants can obtain certified true copies of certificates directly from the local government. Alternatively, acceptable identity/parentage documents are infant baptismal certificates and hospital or maternity clinic records of birth. Home births are rare in Nigeria and medical records are available in most cases. Affidavits may be acceptable as substitutes for documents for those born outside Lagos prior to 1960 or born in the eastern part of Nigeria in the 1960's at the time of the Biafran War, when presented in combination with convincing secondary evidence of relationship. (1) Virtually anyone that submitted hardcopy of their forms sent "physical passports photographs". So it's not an issue.
(2) The embassy's standard is NPC Attestation of birth certificate. So get yours and wify done. It shouldn't cost u more than 3k each. Whatever u had before (birth certificate) is not the lawfully one, it just serves as a reminder for your parents, everyone ought to register their birth with NPC. Hence the embassy would not need it even if u submitted it.
(3) From experience of others, since your wife is almost due, the CO would ask u couple to return after your wife delivers, that way, you would need to get an int'l passport for your baby, pay visa fee, fill the necessary forms before the child and possibly you and wify are issued visa if not already issued. From others experience also, visa takes a week for it to be printed and picked up. I don't know if your interview will be 1st half or 2nd half of October. But logically, it should be 2nd half. Whatever the case, it's sure gonna be October as per the bulletin. God bless you.

Thanks for the all round advice. Well really hope we are not compelled to have the baby here (not a problem if the CO insists but would make a lot of sence if the baby has US citizen straight from birth) if we get the visa and have enough time to travel before the Nov due date for the baby. Would possibly make payment at the hospital in the US and hopefully that would motivate the CO to give us the visa and allow my wife to travel asap to have the baby.

westcodes:

1: I believe you only submit your passport electronically if you emailed your forms to KCC, if you sent through post, the physical copy is all that's needed.

2: I'm not sure about the birth certificate part, maybe someone else can help

3: visa issuance after the interview takes 2 weeks, some people from the 2013 thread reported picking up their visas a week after the interview but generally it's 2 weeks.

@ westcodes. Thanks a lot. Hopefully will get more answers from the house. On q3, baby needs to wait o until visa is out and we have travelled. Pls additional technical question in case you can help...Even though my CN is close to 5500, i submitted my forms to KCC on 9th may as i suspected the question of my wife being almost due around then. Do you think my interview would come up first half of october due to early submission of forms to KCC or second half of oct because my CN is close to 5500. Understand its quite a technical question but your opinion and the rest of the house is welcome. God bless you

janut: Please if u r current for October interview and still not sure of certain documents or procedures, start asking now. The house is here to help each other.
You can itemize the documents you have so that other members can verify it and prbably make one or two inputs.
Congrats once again to all who are current, I may probably be current by November.

House, My wife has finally become current in Oct.(20140000052**) I have three questions.

(1) When i sent our Forms to KCC in May (after i found we were selected) i included a physical passport photo but i read on the net that the passport should be submitted electronically (i guess via scan). Can someone advise it they anticipate any issue with this. I just printed the forms i filled online and submitted the hardcopy with the hardcopy passport to KCC via courier.

(2) I have original birth certificate do i still need the NPC certificate even though i am not the principal applicant? My wife is the pribncipal applicant and plans to get NPC certificate since she does not have the original birth certificate from birth.

(3) My wife is pregnant and due for delivery on 10th Nov and we would like to have the baby in the US. As i dont know yet when our interview would be in october, i wanted to understand from experienced members how long it takes for visa issuance after the interview.

I would appreciate your advice on this and May God continue to bless you.

Thanks. Useful info to be aware of
there is an article on Wikipedia that Nigeria will be ineligible for DV 2015 based on the number of immigrants Nigeria has sent to the US in the past 5 years.

Samimo: lucky for her and congrats. The senate has just passed the immigration bill making 2014 winners the last batch of Dv lottery winners

Please confirm your source of information. The current bill passed by the senate is intended to allow illegal immigrants to the US a 13 year path to citizenship but did not mention anything about dv lottery. The bill in any case still needs to be passed by the house who have republicans in majority but becoming law. I stand to be corrected but as far as I know, there is no indication yet whether dv lottery 2014 will be last. Fingers crossed I would say. wink
