Ofodirinwa:
This is true, especially if you're not counting Calabar and Asaba
Asaba was founded in 1884

Ofodirinwa:
You guys brought landmass into this, not me. Enugu and Aba are bigger cities -in population- than Onitsha.
Onitsha is the oldest city in the east. Founded 1550.

Ofodirinwa:
you're insane. Enugu and Aba are biggest cities than Onitsha. This is only disputed in this thread. The original poster said that Onitsha was the biggest city in the region and I corrected him. I also think you're Ikengawo or Chino because you've been going around this forum accusing me of being Ikengawo for almost a year straight
Do you know according to google. Awka is bigger than onitsha. But onitsha has the largest metropolitan area in the whole of southeast covering about 1965km square and enugu is just 556km square.

Ofodirinwa:
I know you're emotional, but I deal in the world of facts and information so be patient. While Onitsha was growing Enugu and Aba were shrinking?
It's a globally accepted statistical fact that Enugu and Aba are bigger than Onitsha.
You argue blindly

The Federal Government, yesterday, gave marching order to the contractor handling the construction of late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe Mausoleum.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, gave the marching order when he inspected the Zik Mausoleum at the Zik’s Roundabout, Onitsha, Anambra state.

Fashola said the contract has to be completed in October 2018, adding that failure to complete it, he will personally remove the contractor from the site.

Fashola reiterated the marching order during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, at the Government House in Awka.

But the Project Manager, Mr John Ameh, who spoke at the site, said the project will be completed as directed by the minister, adding that the work is almost…

ChimaAdeoye:
Obiano must devise strategic means of solving the housing shortage problem through launching new multi-story housing layouts

Anambra state government must as a matter of urgency open up at least three or four new layouts for high density multi-storey apartment housing estates such as Awada in the three major cities of the state.

Two in Onitsha perhaps one around Nkwelle Ezunaka and another in Oba.
One in Awka and one in Nnewi.

Anambra must seriously think about solving the acute shortage of accommodation with encouraging the building of multi-storey apartments. That is how countries like China and India managed to house everyone decently. The craze for duplexes is not sustainable due to scarcity of land. We cannot afford to have everybody living in duplexes. There just isn't enough land for that type of housing in the long haul.

Government will regulate the types of houses in this new estate and ensure there is provision for amenities and adequate parking. The best system is to use the ground floor for residents parking as in the picture, That way, people can still live comfortably in these flats. We should move away from making multistorey buildings without provision for residents parking space.
70 percent of buildings in anambra are multi storey building. So I guess that is not an issue for now. What the government should be thinking about now are health, road, education and most especially ELECTRICITY

the mall is pending because of intra Nnewi issue based on how the government procured the land without due process.

Nnewi people insisted and want thr land back besides Nnewi people planned to use the land for d same purpose before government acquired it through the wrong source..

i think the land is going back to Nnewi people...
I was in that site December 2016. the project is massive

Cjrane2:
Chima, I totally agree the parking lot should be on the ground while the mall is on top. It makes every sense to do it that way.
But it might be too late to change the plan now. I don't think cars can drive in the ground floor meant for the store. The huge pillars are already in place. I think they should just make it a two storey mall and use the topmost floors for banks, a world class restaurant etc to recoup their construction cost in sinking those huge pillars hoping to build an elevated parking garage

This issue has been hammered and discussed in 2014. Four years after, the mall is yet to be delivered.

is the nnewi mall still under construction or abandoned?

is now time anambra state government create a standard of structures which will be built in a particular area. if the structure present in that area is off standard, the owner should be given notice. when they fail to meet the government structural standard, such building should be bought and sold out to an eligible candidate or the government should build a structure that can yield them interest. JUST AN IDEA FOR ERADICATING SUB STANDARD BUILDINGS FROM THE STATE!

mktinsight:
Your math is wack. 4 events a month is 48 events a year. That's almost 50 events that you used as your baseline. I doubt that Uyo or Lagos Stadium hosts that many events.

Then a typical football game viewer spends 20 times less than.a conference attendant. Meaning that a 1,000 person event at Eko Convention Center reaps exactly the same revenue as 30,000 people watching football at Uyo Stadium. Meanwhile the stadium costs 10-20 times that of the Convention Center.
it doesn't matter. having at least one standard stadium in Anambra state is not a bad idea. take note. Anambra is one of the richest and list indebted state in Nigeria. so I believe they can handle it. The state is not as poor as you think

OreMI22:
Of course Onitsha is twice more populated than Enugu, Awka and Abakaliki combined. Enugu is more spread out because it has good dual carriage roads leading to the outskirts of town for a very long time. Onitsha only had the Enugu-Onitsha express way and that is why development was on that axis. The Onitsha -Owerri road was just dualized less than 10 years ago and it has helped a lot. People moved to Asaba because Onitsha became impossible to expand due to lack of major dual carriage roads away from the city.

The 33 (Trans-Nkisi) road to Umuleri needs to be dualized too ASAP. Obiano promised that during his re-election campaign. We have to see if that promise is kept. It will help decongest Onitsha and make living in the northern axis of the city a feasible option for the state. Dualization of the 33 (Trans-Nkisi) road from Onitsha to Umuleri or Aguleri will be the single greatest contribution of Obiano to the development of Anambra state.
I wish obiano can see all this your right ups. We need dualization of all our major roads in anambra most especially in onitsha, awka and nnewi. The population in anambra state is increasing rapidly and we also need a good and modern transport system like mini train, cable train e.t.c
