richmondefosa:
Take that contract job with the multinational ASAP.

Let me tell you my story.

As a fresh graduate, I used to be a waiter in a one man's business in one of the poshest restaurants on the island with a salary of over a 100k. Tips many times push it up.
A certain day, I made tips of 80k. This was even after I dashed bouncers and cleaners money. I bought my first car from that job. A Toyota Avalon 2008. The job came with accomodation, feeding (lunch or breakfast) and free wi-fi. Life was good.

But I thought of my future. Do I want to serve food and drinks for the rest of my life? Did I like standing for long hours? Did this role look good on my CV in NIGERIA after like 4 years? My reasoning kicked in. I started looking for an exit.

Then I saw a contract job in a multinational company ( A Bank). The largest banking group in Africa with a pay of 70k. This job didn't come with the perks of my waiter job. It was on the mainland which means I'll go back to my father's house. The good life was too tempting but it would look good on my CV if I intend to transmogrify into a bigger space.

I moved without thinking twice. Dropped the waiter job without looking back. They begged me to stay and offered to increase my salary. But I refused.

I took up the job with the bank. Very crazy idea. Life became hard. Not gonna lie. Expenses dropped like crazy. Ha. Thank God for family o. I left home very early and came back very late. But I stayed.

The trainings I've gotten have been out of this world. The exposure it has given me. Omo.

What's sweeter? I got converted to full time position with a bastard salary. I have grown professionally and switched from being an arts students to evolving into a tech person. I have won awards here in the bank which come with financial remuneration. My CV? Lol. Great. Currently in the recruitment phase with Monzo Bank UK ( if I don't get it, I'm not bothered. If I get it? Great).

I helped a few former friends in the restaurant to get into my company. They're contract staff now but my story inspires them. The ones who didn't leave the restaurant were badly hit because of COVID. The business downsized. Salaries were reduced. Now they're currently on 70k salary.

What's my point? One man business is a very risky thing to commit yourself fully into. That multinational company is a greater launchpad.

I understand that we have different motivating factors in life and different challenges but if you ask me, I'll say grab that contract job ASAP.

May the winds continually be behind your sail.
May God and our ancestors crown our efforts.
I'm currently in a one man business and I earn like 140k and fast forward to 4 years, nothing to show for it. No time for myself or even train and I'm also a supervisor and no real company will even take a good look at my CV. I'll go to the multinational, add them on my CV while I constantly check outside for better opportunity

No multinational will pay you 80k.
It's the key distributor for that multinational that is offering you a job,or sub distributor.
You know wetin be multinational so?
Imagine BAT ,Nestle,P&G or Unilever pay person 80k.
Check well bros.
Last I checked sales reps for BAT dey collect 700k with brand new work hilux 2021 model double cabin, luxury version.
Not to talk of allowances!
They are sourcing agency, I was thinking I should just put them on CV that I worked with them for a while so it will boost my chances for the next job. So I can deviate back to my line. What I do now doesn't correlate with what I study and I have been finding it hard to get another job since. At least if I have lab tech on my CV, I can easily apply for Quality Assurance/ Quality Control or Lab technician in top league companies

I know you are talking about NESTLE FOODS. I have been in there. The best option now is for him to go for the permanent job. Trust me on this one bro.
Is it bad there? Is it advantageous to put the experience on CV for better offer in a permanent place in the future

Prudency045:
They both come with their disadvantages.

Contract staff in a multinational are treated like a piece of shit. Employees see themselves as god and are ready to use demeaning words on you. You will also be doing a lot of the work and be ready to take all the blame even when you are not at fault. You can also be sacked at any time. However, look beyond the cons because the company's name on your CV will help attract interview invites elsewhere. Learn as much as you can so that you can use the knowledge gained either to be converted to permanent staff or move elsewhere as permanent staff.

Working in a one-man business isn't for the faint-hearted. Be ready to do jobs outside what you are employed to do. You can be asked to wash the toilet or cut grass. Don't be surprised. Your salary is dependent on how the company makes sales. In some cases, the payment of salary is dependent on the wickedness or niceness of the owner. So expect a delay in salary. Deduction for various forms of offenses is also their way. At the end of the month, you might not get that 150k. No structure in place, things are not done according to international best practices and you might not gain enough knowledge to be able to compete with your peers who work in multinational settings.

So you need to seat down and see which of them aligns with your short-term and long-term goals. I pray you to choose rightly.
multinational, I'll put them on my C. V. while watching out for opportunity in another firm. Currently in a one man business but my job role is Prod. Supervisor as a Microbiologist, can't seem to get jobs because most Prod supervisor role wants an engineer and again Laboratory/Quality role feels my Prod. experience does not count

One man business? Very risky brethren... Go for the multinational... It's temporary but if you put your eye down, you may find a way to get in
Thanks boss.

The multinational job will give you more professional exposure, there will be SOPs guiding almost every thing compared to a one man's business that may not have structure.

Plus, if the multinational is well known with great brands out there, it will give your CV value for your next job
It's a great brand. It's the best food production and processing brand in Nigeria and one of the well known outside Nigeria
CareerMultinational Or One Man's Business, Which? by Stoicful(op): 9:27pm On Aug 18, 2022
Which is better, a contract Job in a multinational company or permanent staff in a one man's business. But the pay of the one man business is twice of the multinational contract Job + the job role of the multinational has more value.

Multinational (Laboratory Technician)
One man's business (Production Supervisor but it's just material management and coordinating factory workers).

Multinational - 80k
Permanent - 155k

Which should I go for ?

Please stop explaining this.
If you didn't put yours and others did. It has no impact on your selection or rejection

Infact GPA is what most companies use for this selection.

What we should be talking about is how to get to the next stage.

This recruitment is quite competitive. A job openings that hundred thousands will apply and only 50 will be recruited is not a child's play.

Anything you can put to give you an edge, please put. If you have a high GPA, Please put too. You earned it in a hard way okay.

Lastly, if your application is showing "assessment in progress" be happy because you are still in the race and you may likely move to the next assessment stage which is the cognitive assessment.
Have some people being dropped from accessment in progress?
