Exciton:
Of course the government is culpable but I fully disagree with you and others who are against seguntijan. Nigerian religion actively contributes to corruption and the poor state of the nation. Religious leaders like Rev Martin Luther King stood up against the evils of the society in their time. Our religious leaders are nothing more than political tools to gather votes.

Religious leaders have the moral responsibility to stand up and speak against corrupt politicians and evil acts in the society. But ours never do this. None of them have spoken against the death, starvation and humanitarian crises in the north east. None of the pentecostal leaders have spoken against Fulani herdsmen killings and called Buhari out on his lack of interest in solving any of these major crises. The best they can do is offer some pitiful donation that doesn't solve any problem. Why?

Here is why. Churches and mosques receive lots of money from corrupt politicians and people. Your pastors don't refuse these corrupt "tithes, gifts and offerings". These makes them morally handicapped. They can no longer express their views even if they had one because they have collected stolen money... money meant for infrastructural development of the nation has been diverted into building megachurches and acquiring private jets.

You and others have to face the fact. These religious leaders are morally corrupt, lack the transparency required of non-profit organizations around the world and ultimately contribute to the decay of societal values by advocating for miracles and "divine" favour (aka corruption and non-meritocracy) over hard work, honesty, critical thinking, questioning our leaders etc.
Its safe in a sane society like that of Martin Luther King to live up to one's moral responsibilities without being nailed. Not in a dark society like ours, yet I praise the daring attitude of some like Papa Oyedepo, Johnson Suleiman et al & yet many Nigerians still stand to condemn preachers meddling into political matters. Even the masses are against their helpers. Saying that churches contributed to our societal decadence is out of place by advocating miracles & divine favor. I want to know what u expect pastors to preach? Is it science? Technology? Politics? Of course it is miracles, signs & wonders, divine favor e.t.c, which are the promises of the Bible they are ordained to preach. But if there's an institution that has spurred their faithful to carry-on with their lives without waiting for our failed & failing government, I think its the church. How else do you advocate hard work? Government should be eternally grateful to the church which preaches hope to the members, which without it, angry & frustrated youths would be daily on the streets carrying out deadly protest

seguntijan:
"I could not resist talking about this, early today. The number of registered churches in Nigeria is 23,216 according to the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. Note that these churches have branches. There may be over 2,000,000 documented church branches in Nigeria. Add to this, all the Mosques and undocumented religious houses all over Nigeria, we may be talking of 5,000,000. It calls for concern. Our major business in Nigeria presently is religion or faith marketing. Yet this business is tax free and enjoy free entry. Juxtapose this with the production base in Nigeria, you will see why we are a poor nation with all forms of recession. Last year there are just slightly about 1000 manufacturing companies still hanging out there in Nigeria. Many of them are even threatening closure. Some of the old factory premises have been converted to churches and Mosques. It is sad. These companies who produce what we eat and use in this country pay tax and go through harrowing experience to do business. They cannot afford the limousines, luxury homes and private planes these faith leaders use, yet they are the ones that pay tax which we use to build roads that these faith preachers travel. We have got many things wrong in this country. Faith without work and expecting miracles is definitely a mirage. Time to have a personal relationship with God and focus on productive work. I am a Christian and a believer but I find it difficult to accept what is going on. The starting point is to bring all churches, mosques and religious houses to the tax bracket, tax religious organizations as we tax our companies. Give them tax deductions/benefits where they spend on charity as applied to businesses Nigeria.
According to one of my Wards whom I am proud to have mentored "Nigeria would have been such a great country to live in if the passion with which churches are created is the same way enterprises are established and industries developed by individuals. With this, meaningful and gainful employment would have become a thing of the past.
In a sharp departure from what I was thought in my home when I was growing up, I suddenly realized that nobody talks about industry and hard work anymore in Nigeria but miracle.
It is so painful that the teachings of hard work, honesty and industry have been replaced with the teachings of prosperity via a divine means in my dear country.
Professor Alan Rugman, of blessed memory, thought me at Henley Business School that key factors of economic growth in any country are the presence of viable industries and strong competition within the industries.
We must all imbibe the spirit of hard work, industry, patriotism and honesty for us to grow as a nation"
That is the view of one of the 24 young and promising Business Managers that I mentor. It is a food for thought as we start the new year."
I stand to disagree with you. Government should be held responsible for unfriendly industrial environment in Nigeria. Government mines & sells our oil without proper accountability to the citizens. Government still go ahead to Institute heavy taxes & dues on industries without considering the negative effects on employment. Now industries can't cope, resultant closures has set in. Government feels they are no more getting much from extortion due to few operating industries, now being envious of the men of God who labor heavily in marathon fasting & many nights of prayers intreating the Almighty to intervene in the lives of those frustrated by our government, studying the scripture ceaselessly to receive words of comfort for the hopeless due to bad governance, building hope & faith and telling those without god fathers nor long leg that they can make it with God. Testimonies are now erupting as the result of their hard work and government is now intruding. Why should churches pay task? Did the government provide any soft landing for them? A lot of government officials are sitting on the common wealth of the entire nations and are enriching their pockets & yet they are number one tax eveders. We have a government that reap where they do not sow. In this 21st century, Nigerian government can't boast of supplying clean table water to its citizens neither supply electricity to a reasonable length of time & yet come & see where they are pursuing petty women traders, extorting from them the little that isn't enough to put food on their table talk less burning fuel in her little tiger generator, all in the name of local & state government revenue. We have wolves as leaders. Let the government remove greed from their lives, Nigeria will achieve industrialization with the spirit of entrepreneurship burning in our youths.

That really shows that it is very expensive to run a University so no blames to Papa Oyedepo. All we need to do is praying for God's blessings.

If you think that the recession we are in now has nothing to do with the initial inactions and "trial and error"policies of the present government have nothing to do with the current economic situation then I think you are not being completely honest.

You can pull out the figures and display here we are all waiting and lets see how bad this present government have driven the economy into the gutter. I am patiently waiting.

On a side note: if I remember correctly during the campaign period APC listed out your position on the economy and promised to turn things around. If they knew things were not working and agreed to fix it, why on earth would you want to give them a pass now and not hold them accountable for their inefficiencies?
One problem of this nation is having people that reason the way you do. I think that putting you through does not worth it because your type is so mischievous & bent on destroying the truth. Mr ignorant, where was our nation in global economic rating during the past government & where are we now? If you can offset this view, u can convince an erudite person that there is a bright sunshine in 11pm.

A true man of God being instructed by a witch to stop eating kola nut and you obeyed. God spoke through a witch. I wondered o
He was still a student then, probably not yet born again & did not have relationship with God. So God used the only voice he (Adeboye) can understand to speak to Him. That shows the extent God can go to protect, instruct & direct His people in a situation where a man of God or Bible is not close. Adeboye is not saying this to praise witchcraft but God who used what seemed a castaway to save his life.

APC doesn't know ORJI Uzor Kalu. This is window dressing.
OUK that contested in a rerun in his senatorial district and came a distant fourth. He doesn't have much electoral value again
May his value be buried as long as he belongs to Fulani herdsmen party

Is this not stupidity? U r commending the state government in a crisis that saw 808 souls killed, hundreds of houses burnt? Amidst 24hrs curfew? Which kind man do we have as president? The 500 mobile police earlier dispatched prior to the attack were where when the herdsmen invaded a community with machine guns gotten from God-knows-where & massacred over 800 without any intervention? May God repay the wicked. Be it who

Stupidity is using the opinion of one man to generalize. We Anambarians no dey carry last. Ngige is one political hitman in Anambra but was trashed because of wrong party. During the election, Peter Obi spotted elrufai hiding in a hotel in Anambra & locked him in house arrest till election ended. Rochas Okoroawusa loaded voters but couldn't have access. Apc has no foundation in Anambra. Ifeanyi Uba is just a boy of yesterday. Buhari should prepare to give him another appointment as he did for Ngige.
