In Afghanistan, they toppled the Taliban from power. The Taliban even requested power sharing with the US but were turned down. The US introduced democracy, womens could go without wearing a burqa, they could even work and go to school.

Had the US stayed another 20 years, it would have "won" the war, not with weapons, but to a bourgeoning Afghan economy and a with an established nation.

In Iraq, Saddam Hussein and his government was toppled in 3 weeks. They sacked the entire army (which was probably their biggest mistake as they formed the bulk of the vicious insurgency that came after), brought in democracy which still holds, introduced economic reforms and so on. Yes, they were able to contain the insurgency, though not end it.

They left a functioning state behind, and Iraq is doing fairly well now.The insurgency itself has basically ended.

If you were really a war strategist, you would know its hard to win a guerilla war. Mohammed who you buy your cigarettes from in the morning, is the same chap planting an IED against you at night.

It is so sad. I just check the cost of the 750Km coaster road in Lagos-Calabar. The total budget is upward of $11B! That money can build many quality roads all over Nigeria.
