People from Europe and America who were facing persecution for their Jewish faith decided to run to Palestine and some of them had plans of removing the general population of the land in favour of making place for other Europeans and Americans who identified as Jewish. And that is what happened.

What we call Israel today was called Palestine until around 1947 when Israel was created for people of the Jewish faith out of Palestine.
