stranger12, I need you to stop assuming that we don't understand economics far better than you do. Is that ok?
I never claimed to be a guru in that field,

Do you know that N5 paper was more expensive than its value.

Nigerians, please dont sleep until you understand global economics

We get paid in dollars for our oil but after that how is the revenue spent in Nigeria?Does the FG pay its workers in dollars? Are contractors in Nigeria paid in dollars? The last time I checked,Nigeria uses the Naira and all that dollar revenue has to be exchanged for Naira.
True,

But do you know that technically, the government can print new naira notes and pay civil workers and nothing negative will happen if the amount of naira in circulation is just right for its 140 million citizens? The job of the government is to determine the amount of naira in circulation. If you want to stop inflation, stop putting too much naira in circulation. If you think its too little, inject a little bit more to balance things up.

There are ways to inject more naira into circulation (reduction of tax)
And there are ways to reduce the amount of naira in circulation (increase tax)
I'm not an economist but I believe the Tax system can be used to regulate currency,

The benefit of foreign reserve and foreign currency is importation of ideas, of infastructures, of machineries and to bribe other countries.
But I don't think the Nigerian government sees this.

Just kidding about the last bit regarding bribing
PoliticsRe: Why Can't Nigeria's Oil Revenue Be Paid Out To Citizens? by stranger12: 1:52pm On Apr 17, 2007
@ 4Play

you don't understand the perculiarity of nigeria. Nigeria depends solely on crude oil exportation.

the fact that you strenghten the naira would not affect the production of crude oil

at the moment, crude oil is produced at about 2,000,000 barrels per day.

the trade is usually done in dollars not in naira.

Nigeria can make it work to its advantage, I know you are worried about exportation but do you know we can, for the moment, focus on building the industries by importing technical knowlegdge and machineries for the next ten years to build our industries.

Nigeria doesnt need to bother with exportation because its already there in the form of crude oil.

I wouldnt want to double the strength of the naira like you suggested but I would suggest keeping it fixed for about 10years, thast should the trick.

If you can first agree with me that it's a good idea, then we can talk about the implementation details.

Concerning inflation, do you guys believe that foreign investment of $40 billion or so will lead to inflation? If so, then I want you to consider that what matters is not inflation or no inflation, but better lives of people.

The world being a global village, the overall result of a dollar giveaway to millions of Nigerians would benefit us at the expense of everybody else in the world who spends dollars. Localized inflation won't be the result.
the foreign investment of $40 billion cannot lead to inflation until someone does something as crazy as spraying it in naira to nigerians from an helicopter
[s]without knowing it, that is your suggestion[/s]

Do you know that the result would be different if dollars is sprayed instead of naira?

[s]I normally don't make sense when I make comments like this but don't worry, there is always something wise in it, if you search deeply.[/s]
PoliticsRe: Why Can't Nigeria's Oil Revenue Be Paid Out To Citizens? by stranger12: 1:32pm On Apr 17, 2007
A strong currency discourages exportation
A weak currency encourages importation

but what they (economist) fail to tell us is that most times
A strong currency encourages importation
A weak currency discourages importation

Nigeria WILL NOT suffer the side effect of strengthing the naira because OIL WILL ALWAYS BE IN DEMAND AND WILL ALWAYS BE EXPORTED
. . . i still wonder why people in power don't see things the way I do.

can someone tell me my above argument is valid and true or dispute it with reasons

Economics offers various definitions for money, though it is now commonly defined as any good or token that functions as a medium of exchange that is socially and legally accepted in payment for goods and services and in settlement of debts
Seun, you really need to study a bit more of economics

There are some fundamental issues that we all know.

DEMAND and SUPPLY.

Have you stopped to ask yourself why prices rise shortly after government increases minimum wage/salaries?

the reason why bread is N100 per loaf is because the common man can afford to have N100

The naira would suddenly be cheaper than toilet roll if every privates and harry has some few thousands in their bank accounts. The market women in your Omida Market will begin to sell bread to match the governments moneytry gift.

The economic solution you are seeking lies in the strength of the Naira. But it is a delicate balance. Too much strength is bad, too weak is bad too.
But we are in a time where the demand for Oil is high. So much so, that a strong Naira wont be to the detriment of Nigeria.

@topic

it wouldnt work in the peoples best interest.

The suggestion is tempting but it would only result in inflation.
You would get the same effect if government decides to print bank notes and dole out to people.

The needs of the people should be addressed. Money is not neccessarily what people want. Money is just a means to an end.
Government should find ways to improve the educational systems, communication, security and health system.

As a Nation, the wealth is there, the task at hand is to find a suitable way to distribute the wealth.
by having projects (such as building new structures, refineries, roads) the government would use a stone to kill two birds.

1. Increase the number of people in gainful employment and
2. the creation of public amenities.
CultureRe: Impact On Slavery On Africans And The African Diaspora by stranger12: 12:17pm On Mar 26, 2007
You can judge from the response you get from this thread.

We can't discuss slavery without looking that lives of slaves and their descendants.
(unconsciously, some people think all blacks are descendants of slaves)

OUTSIDE AFRICA:
In most of Europe and America - All blacks are considered 2nd class citizens
In rest - they are made to view Africans through western lens.

IN AFRICA:
They were dumped in Freetown. (Hmm, I'm seeing a link here, dump them in Freetown, pick up ivory & other goods on the return leg, lucrative)

Others traced their origin back to their various towns and were absorbed on return. A lot of them kept their foreign surnames. But they are not looked down upon.

@ Topic

Metaphorically, Slavery turned Africans into subhumans because Africans are offsprings of a raped woman.
Africa is a very unstable place and from the western point of view, nothing good comes from there. AIDS from Africa, aids to Africa.
Africa is associated with poverty and instability.

Here is the chain of problems.

Slaves were usually prisoners of war, criminals or debtors who paid back their loans with sweat or death depending on the kind of crime committed. In some cases they were just people who disobeyed the Kings orders. Slavery grew when a market was created by the west who saw slavery as a cheap means to produce food for their countries so they can sit down and use their brains in inventing things. Think of things invented after the 16th Century. (planes, submachine guns, battle ships, war tanks, e.t,c)

Slavery brought colonization (e.g British attempt to militarily stop slavery caused them to colonize a port in Lagos, they later colonized the whole country from that little stronghold)

Colonization caused an arrested development in Africa (generaion long systems were truncated and restarted awkwardly)

This resulted in the creation on unstable states

Instability caused wars, and wars caused instabilities, and the vicious cycle was set in motion

And this is the foundation of the current mess called Africa.

This is the impact of slavery on the world
Africans will not be looked down on if only Africa becomes great and powerful.

@ coloba,

I suggest you seek help with medication. The earlier you start the better.
And do some research on HIV/AIDS.

These are not exactly the same. Could you define God for argument's sake, as I see a difference between a supreme being (in relation to other beings) and the God concept, which (must be) very specific.
Is your God the personal, theist omnimax God as described in the Bible?
GOD:

1: The mythical being who supposedly created this world we live in
2: The supreme being who created this world we live in

choose any, you might be right.

I said "

"
You replied "
Huh!
"

I was refererring to the petri dish analogy I posted and I mixed it with the concept of Hell.

You said "
It's not because something is created by something more advanced that the more advanced being is a god, it's only more advanced.
Unfortunately I still don't get the point you're trying to make
"

People who believe in God believe they were created by a supreme being.
People who don't believe in God believe they just happened.

I know I'm not a good communicator but I don't think its that bad.

Logic is not necessarily factuall.

ok, if its too big to swallow the possiblity that we are the most advanced beings in this galaxy why then do you strongly believe that God doesnt exist?

You don't understand my argument but do you think humans might one day create intelligent beings?
Christianity EtcRe: Kissing Hank's Ass - Religious Logic Exposed by stranger12: 11:04am On Mar 23, 2007
@ KAG,

in reference to the 10% usage of our brain. I am not actually of that school of thought.

But I strongly believe that our brains are not efficiently applied. The 10% figure is just an arbitrary fraction.

In years to come, the average man will be more knowlegeable than Albert Einstein. The application of our brain may however not be as efficient as Albert's.

Research Report
Dormancy of the Human Brain
Dormant Brain Research and Development Laboratory
T.D.A. Lingo, Director

The human brain is only 10% functional, at best.
The first to outline this theory, later proved a fact by others, was Australian Neurology Nobel Laureate Sir John Eccles. (Lecture: University of Colorado, University Memorial Center Boulder, July 31, 1974.) "The brain indicates its powers are endless."

In England, John Lorber did autopsies on hydrocephalics. This illness causes all but the 1/6th inch layer of brain tissue to be dissolved by acidic spinal fluid. He tested the IQ's of patients before and during the disease. His findings showed that IQ remained constant up to death. Although over 90% of brain tissue was destroyed by the disease, it had no impact on what we consider to be normal intelligence.

Russian neurosurgeon Alexandre Luria proved that the 1/3 bulk of frontal lobes are mostly dormant. He did this by performing ablation experiments on persons. He gave physiological and psychological tests before, cut out parts and whole frontal lobes, the re-tested after. His conclusion: removal of part or all of frontal lobes causes no major change in brain function, (some change in mood alteration). The frontal lobes are mostly dormant, asleep. (Luria, A.R. "Frontal Lobes and the Regulation of Behavior." In: K.H. Pribram and A.R. Luria, Editors, Psychophysiology of the Frontal Lobes. New York, and London, Academic Press, 1973)

Finally, the human brain contains 10 billion neurons, mostly in the outer layer of brain cortex. the function of these currently dominant cells is fairly clear. but the brain also contains 120 billion glial cells. Aside from some secondary nurturing of neurons, the primary function of the glia is not clear. What big bang mirical awaits mankind within these mysteries?

Today, most would agree without argument that the potential of the human brain is infinite. Thus, to state that a person uses 10%, 5%, or even 1% of their potential brain capacity (infinity) is overly generous.

The point is this: There is no dispute among honestly rational experts about the latent potential of the human think box. There is only friendly dispute about how much and what still awaits us, patiently to be self-discovered between each set of ears. Hence, the wisdom of intuitive folksay was correct: "The human brain is only 10% functional." John Eccles thinks that number is too high. "How can you calculate a percentage of infinity?"

hey, who says I'm challenged shocked

I don't think I went that far with either you or nferyn. And you, nferyn inferred that I am stupid.

I went through your comic strips again and I should say they seemed funny. But the down side is that it is a mockery of what some people hold dear.
But nferyn, you keep saying I'm not making sense.

Hmm, maybe I'm not good with communicating my thoughts huh

I will rephrase one of my questions

Do you think man on earth is the most advanced being?

your answer might be NO.

but here is my logic, what if the answer is YES.

Do you think we can in the future create intelligent beings? YES
What if we create such beings in test tubes or petri dishes. Do you think they can be smart enough to measure the size of their surroundings?
(the same way we know the size of the milky way)

If my thoughts are logical, are we not Gods to the beings we create.

Are we good or bad if we decide to bin our research?

Christianity EtcRe: Kissing Hank's Ass - Religious Logic Exposed by stranger12: 3:04pm On Mar 22, 2007
OK,

enough of my ranting.

Believe it or not, God might exist, and might not. If I can create, I can be created if I am not supreme. But what proof do I have that I am supreme or not.

answer that question first before you question the existence of GOD.

but am I making sense at all? I just don't want you to go about thinking that people who believe in God are not logical.

The existence of God is actually probable.

Don't you think so?

An intellect can educate himself/herself to the point of believing in God.
In the same way, you can educate yourself to the point of not believing.

Logic fails sometimes.

you put your water in a cup, on a table, in a continent, on a planet, in a solar system, in a galaxy
. . . who says it ends there?

and who says you are the most supreme in your one little corner called earth? There might be another.

In a million years from now where would man be? Man would be God to the present.

Currently, we are Gods to the past. It's only God that can fly in the sky and create quakes with atomic bombs.

You don't even need proof of life eternal if you can't count from 1 to the last digit in infinity

. . .  logic falls flat without logic to sustain logic.

I don't understand you guys sometimes.

Statistically and scientifically the probability that life exist elsewhere is not 0.
The probablitity that something more superior to humans exist is not 0
Therefore common sense that is not so common suggests that the probability of the existence of a being very very powerful to the point of being supreme is not 0.

GET THAT?

NOT ZERO. (0)

GET THAT INTO YOUR THICK SKULLS AND STOP THINKING EVERY OTHER PERSON IS STUPID!!!

@ atheists

Do you sometimes wonder if Man would one day become as powerful as God?

So far, we use 10% of our brains but we've been able to create robots that have AI.

I speak to someone on a funny looking piece of block and someone hears me some 1000miles away.
My fellow has travelled as far as the moon.

Definitely one day we will become God.

If that happens, Do you think the robots we create will ever believe we exist if we hide ourself from them.

How big is this galaxy. DO you realize it looks like a swirling maze (something going down the drain) and at the centre of it all there is a "black hole"

Do you know that the black hole has a magnetic pull that will stop even light rays from coming out of it.

Think again.

I wrote this out in less that 7 mins, give me more time and I will come up with something better.

For all I care, the galaxy may not be bigger than a test tube for some other intelligent being more powerful that man on earth.
