well, I went to the site again and it seems the story has slightly changed and the story now seems more vague.
PoliticsNigeria's Vice-president Elect Goodluck Attacked by stranger12(op): 9:12am On May 16, 2007
Unknown attackers have blown up a country house of Nigeria's Vice-President elect Goodluck Jonathan, Nigerian security sources have said.
They said the house in the southern Bayelsa State - where Mr Jonathan in currently governor - was destroyed by dynamite in the dawn attack.

There were no immediate reports of any casualties. Mr Jonathan is not believed to have been in the house at the time.

The attackers also blew up a nearby police station, killing one officer

PoliticsRe: Nigerian NGOs Are Thieves! by stranger12: 1:12pm On May 14, 2007
OlowoTee:
That's true,

Actually, I'm into a small business of Knitting(the art of making Knitted wears e.g Cardigan, Sweater, Baby layette etc) with the Knitting machine. I used to have quality time for these before i started work, but right now i rarely do it except if i have orders from people.

I strongly believe in self-empowerment and encourage others into skills acquisition. But my work presently only afford me weekends. I hope to be on my own someday.

A business is a more sustainable way to make a difference Let me hear your view.

Tanx
Its like teaching the hungry to fish (employment) or just giving them the fish (NGOs)

But here is another perspective.

NGOs also help in distributing wealth from the wealthy to the poor. This is good.

A debateable 80% of Nigeria's 140 million inhabitants are mostly living below the poverty line. This is not fact
If wealth is distributed, the general populace will have a stronger purchasing power and this will boost the economy of Nigeria.

In developed countries, wealth distribution is achieved by giving free health service (e.g. UK), a proper taxing system, giving housing benefits to the less privileged.

The effect of international aids can be complicated due to the fact that it creates dependency on a foreign currency and further devalues the local currency. However, I believe this could also create a saturation of foreign influx which might prevent futher devaluation. I might be wrong, I'm not an expert on these issues.
BusinessRe: Why Are Major Oil Companies In Nigeria Controlled By Yorubas And Hausas? by stranger12: 12:37pm On May 11, 2007
@ topic

Maybe its because almost half of nigerians are yoruba and hausas  undecided huh.
Last time I checked, they are 45% of the nigerian population.

One thing I notice in Nigeria is that people are very verbal and mostly fail to go through the right process to get justice done.
Why cant you put it in writing and report the incidence to the bank and to other necessary authorities?

whats the use of barking and not biting?
Its your money, why would you not chase it?

Afam: It is always very interesting reading from Nigerians that use their limited level of understanding as a yardstick to judge what is right or what is wrong.

Any reasonable human being will agree with the statement that the Nigeria law and legal system is based on the system in Britain (A christain country) and that if a moslem nation had colonized Nigeria that sharia or Islamic legal system will most likely have been put in place.

But are we all reasonable? Certainly NO.
Don't be deceived, Britain is not a christian country!!!

their churches are now mostly converted to museums and theatres.

Afam:
@Mckren,

Let us come home to realities so we can understand the issues better, enough of the grammar.

Are you saying that any Nigerian is guaranteed the right to practice prositution in a state that has agreed to implement sharia simply because as a non muslim sharia code of conduct cannot affect the woman?

Are you saying that it is right for non muslims living in the Northern states where sharia has been introduced are free to setup brothels and night clubs simply because they are non muslims and as such sharia does not have any effects on whatever they choose to do in those states?

Please, provide answers to these 2 questions so we can appreciate the validity or otherwise of the position of the constitution on this very important issue.
I don't quite understand your line of argument

Please don't throw logic to the wind

You, Afam should be forced to the Mosque every Friday.
And 20 strokes of the cane for your wise remarks.

Is that not the islamic law?

PoliticsPolicing The People by stranger12(op): 11:44am On May 08, 2007
. . . just a quick question for nairaland users.

Will this reorganization work?
Mobile Police - Federal owned unit.
Regular Police - State owned unit.

Uniform will be slightly different.
Both will patrol the regions
Only the mobile police will be allowed to carry firearms.
Ratio of mobile police to regular police would be 20:1

@seun

you are wrong.

if you had 100 millionaire from this your website and you kept it in the bank and declared it you know alot of people will run and meet you for advice on how to run the business.

SINGAPORE 2 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE $128 Billion.

If you have a fat account people will be careful with you and want to do BUSINESS WITH YOU.

YOU MUST CAPITALIZE TO ATTRACT INVESTMENT.
I bet you think Singapopre's billion is cooling off in a current account in Lloyds Bank PLC. wink

Seun:
Putting the money in a bank is actually equivalent to giving it away. I don't know how to explain it, but it's true.
Seun is right,

you will earn some little interest on your money but that interest is usually only a fraction of the gains it would have made for the bank itself. It is even worse if the bank is foreign based. The purpose of external reserves is to speak in dollars. You can't build a refinery with Naira only (even if is to be built in Nigeria).

There is a difference between keeping your money in a foreign bank and buying stakes/companies abroad.
Ideally, the latter is what external reserve is.

. . .off topic.
I'm ashamed with Atiku for using the dollar as tuition fees in his school.

basically you want someone who will be on television with about 12 PR assistants huh?based on what exactly? based on the fact that he looks calm and collected?
everyone can't be an oshomole* (the ex-labour guy), people lead in different ways

Atiku was hungry for the job does that mean he can actually deliver? wink
its not based on his calm demeanor, its based on not being able to use up the budget allocated to his state

It is obvious Atiku is/was hungry for all the wrong reasons.
He was only trying to keep his arse away from jail when his immunity expires.

ziddy:
yar'adua is another shagari.-yet another reluctant president who may well turn out to be obasanjo's man of straw.

its so unfortunate that all the elected presidents we've had in the history of the nation were either begged or cajoled to offer themselves up for service. from shagari through obasanjo's 2nd coming, up to yar'adua now.

how the heck then can they be expected to move us forward when they didnt actually have the fires of ambition and  purpose burning deep in their bellies?

they were all propped up to serve some selfish factional interests. they're all puppets and retards.
you've hit the nail on the head!

There is no zeal for the job. Tony Blair was on fire when he came into office as PM of United Kingdom.

In Yar' Adua, I see complacency.

Siddon look will be his motto.

He is not driven. A president of such an active country as Nigeria needs to be active.

Donald Duke did better for his state and for Nigeria. He knows the use of money. You guys need leaders with visions.

PoliticsYar'adua - A Curse In Disguise by stranger12(op): 12:16pm On Apr 30, 2007
I recently read a post here on nairaland about yar'adua being a very honest man. I also learnt that he had about 7 billion in the state coffers (naira or dollars I don't know).

Is he not an absolute waste of space?

No good roads, no proper health systems, no resorts, absolute waste of good money.

What is the use of money when it is only allowed to gather dust and depretiate in value.
What is the use of money if it is stored in a foreign land (I dont know if he did this)

I came to a conclusion that he is visionless and would lead Nigeria to the gallows.
A visionless man is better dead than alive.

They are foreign institutions which are used as tools in the interests of their governments and people.
