What's wrong with afrinvest again...i sold some shares since on Monday and i was expecting them to credit my wallet with the money yesterday. only for me to be seeing the same unit of shares reversed back to me instead of the money. I was sent x-alert and contract note which means the shares were actually sold. |

Mankind2024: I am a self-employed sole proprietor with predictable and significant daily, weekly, and monthly cash flow from my business. Despite this, I live well below my means by avoiding lifestyle inflation. I am a consistent, disciplined, and patient investor. My motivation for writing about leverage stems from the daily barrage of emails from commercial banks in Abuja offering me unsecured loans of ₦10 million and above. After studying the macroeconomic environment, including the ongoing bank recapitalisation exercise, I anticipate an aggressive lending campaign by banks targeting retail customers and investors in 2026. This could be driven by excess liquidity in the system, even as the government intensifies pressure on citizens and businesses through multiple taxes. Just a few days ago, Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, was a keynote speaker at the Tax Reform Summit 2026 organised by Lagos State. He highlighted the enormous untapped potential in property taxation, noting that Lagos could generate over ₦1 trillion annually if the state properly harnesses property data, valuation, and administration—emphasising that every property in the state represents a sustainable revenue opportunity for state and local governments. At the bolded, i guess is the game changer for you when you start with respect to your source of income... thanks |

Mankind2024: Ordinary People Achieving Extraordinary Things in NSEMPA
The world, including our beloved Nigeria, is filled with ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary feats through determination, patience, and smart decisions.
I remember back in 2017 when I began real-life investing with just ₦5,000. Before that time, I lacked confidence in navigating the stock market and often sought validation from others. The NSEMPA thread on Nairaland was incredibly welcoming in those early days. It felt like a community where investors celebrated wins together and navigated volatility as a team. There was no aggressive promotion of questionable stocks for XMAS ram—just genuine sharing and support. It was a peaceful space that attracted many readers and active participants.
Sadly, things have changed. Today, envy, doubt, and condemnation often dominate the discussions. The influx of younger generations (Gen X and Z) has contributed to making the forum more toxic. Imagine someone on an anonymous and faceless platform trying to inspire others by sharing their journey, only to face demands for full portfolio details or accusations of "showing off."
The Bible highlights envy as one of the things the Lord detests (Proverbs 6:16-19 lists seven abominations, including a proud look and sowing discord, which often stem from envy). Neutral observers can easily spot this on the NSEMPA forum. Some even dismiss genuine success stories as mere luck or market manipulation.
For the record, negative comments do not discourage me. I will continue sharing my success stories to motivate others.
2025 has been a year full of valuable lessons for investors. The markets faced extreme uncertainty: intense daily volatility, prolonged bull runs, periods of forbearance, the introduction of capital gains tax, and other challenges.
The key lesson I've learned is to ignore the noise and let "Mr. Market" do what it does best—fluctuate unpredictably. This same patient strategy has served me well in foreign markets. In 2025 alone, my international portfolio endured over 20 significant downturns, triggered by events like escalating tariff wars, the Israel-Iran conflict, weak US job reports, government shutdown threats, deepfake scandals disrupting stocks like NVIDIA, concerns over an AI bubble, market correction, Trump vs Musk war, and leadership shifts in Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway holdings.
Through it all, I stood firm—like the Rock of Gibraltar—and never sold my holdings. At one point, my portfolio was down by $22,000, but I remained unshaken. The golden rule? Never sell at the peak of panic during a downturn.
Fast forward to today: As I write this on Christmas Eve 2025, my foreign portfolio has grown to $205,000, while my NGX made an unrealised gain of over N85M today.
This proves that ordinary people like me can achieve extraordinary results through discipline and long-term thinking.
Don't give up. You could be the next success story—like Mr. Nosa, Mr. Emmanuel, Madam Mercy, Mr Agbalowomeri or even my humble self. And when that happens, the skeptics will definitely say it was impossible, just luck, or demand proof, claiming it was manipulation.
This is a brief celebration of ordinary Nigerians turning into extraordinary investors in our beautiful nation.
For the record: Keep investing wisely, stay patient, and focus on your own journey. Merry Christmas! But the butcher refused to show up today for my Presco goat, telling me he is going to come on 26th December. No prob, i would wait for him to do the needful. How were you able to grow your portfolio up to the level you have now considering you started with 5k and within a space of 8years.... how was your salary or source of income like as at then... please help shed more light if you don't mind. |

Mankind2024: Thank you for your feedback; your point is well-taken. I was only joking about your 'jump in and jump out' strategy based on my observations. Nevertheless, I'd like to suggest that you consider opening a dedicated investment account for long-term compounding, specifically for your kids' future. As the saying goes, 'If you weren't born into wealth, then wealth must be born out of you.' I've found it helpful to set aside certain units in my investment account for long-term growth. For example, as of May 31st, 2025, I held 2.5 million units of Ellah Lake at an average purchase price of N3.60. After a thorough review, I sold 2 million units at an average of N4.9, leaving 500,000 units for long-term holding. This remaining stake could potentially yield significant returns if Ellah Lake performs well or is acquired at a premium. I've had similar success with penny stocks turning into blue chips, such as Transcorps, Honeyflour, and Ikeja Hotels. I highly recommend reading investment literature and listening to educational audiobooks to manage impulses and emotions, which can be detrimental to long-term compounding. Please kindly recommend some. |

designking: I started buying Nigeria stocks after I discover this thread.
I have learnt a lot from the good, the bad and the ugly. I take every side of discuss very seriously here.
One thing I have personally realised is that to make good money on the NGX, one need to invest at least a million naira per stock on your portfolio. Some stock movement might not happen again in a lifetime.... When these big moves happens, it ought to set you up financially but if you invest little, the share price fantastic movement will only give you peanut.
I was reviewing my portfolio this morning, I realised that my Ellah Lake shares have done almost 100% ROI but Na just one bag of rice I can buy with that fantastic movement. I used only about 2% of my portfolio to purchase the Ellahlake.
I don't want to make that same mistake with Access Bank. Please how long have you held the share to achieve this . |

Omooloriredade: I understand your point which explains how an MTO works. However, you have assumed that in the event Norrenberger is unable to snap up 90% of the holdings of minority shareholders, it will have no other choice but to raise offer price or that the reduced free float may lead to scarcity of shares on the floor of the exchange.
My opinion was that the take over of IEI was a done deal because should the MTO (this offer) fail, NB can go ahead with the private placement to recapitalise the company citing an exemption in new SEC rule 445 (1) (d). If this was done, minority shareholders will have their holdings further diluted to smithereens. IEI will fall short of the SEC listing rule, squeeze out minority shareholders and can delist from the NGX. So either way, NB will have their way. I'm afraid the minority shareholders don't have as much power in this scenario. Their options are limited. It appears they are not in a position to recapitalise the company. Pardon my conjectures just reading the room.
New SEC rule 445 (1) (d) exempts a strategic investor via (private placement) in an ailing company from the requirement to make an MTO in the first place. The PP must have been approved by shareholders (my assumption) so not deemed a hostile takeover. This is why I believe this particular MTO is the company giving minority investors an opportunity to exit or they go private with the company. The regulatory backing of this takeover is overwhelming. This is basically SEC and NAICOM assisting a strategic investor to save a financial institution from collapse or with recapitalization.
Keen to see how this plays out. I agree this is mere speculation on my part not to be taken as gospel. please what does it mean to dilute a share? |

emmasoft: Simply put, Right issue is when quoted companies sell shares to existing qualified shareholders in most cases at a discount price compare to the current price of the stock on the NGX. Here shareholders pay for the new shares. It's not compulsory you participant in a RI, it's by choice.
Bonus as the name implies is like a gift. This is when companies give extra shares to qualified existing shareholders at the expense of the company. Here shareholders don't pay for the new shares. Shareholders get Bonus not by choice even if you are not aware your cscs account will be credited with the bonus due you unlike RI when you have to make a choice.
In both cases, your shares increases but for one you pay - RI while the other you don't pay - Bonus. thanks a lot. |

I can't remember how many people I refer to Morgan and Atlas weekly. 1.35% is NO, NO, NO,NO, NO. It drives me away from Investment One. It kills Investment. It reduces units It reduces profit It discourage new onboarders. I have a NASD portfolio that is domiciled with Investment One, I'm on the verge of transferring same to a commission friendly broker.(Atlas) It would have been a thing of joy to patronise Investment One on account of your participation on this platform.
