Outside of Lagos and Abuja land does not really appreciate in value. And in most civil service states there is no real development. You will come to the same place 10 years later. Some nice houses but that's it.same dirt road, same shitty internet, same 400% price hike on shit that is sold in lagos traffic jams.

My Take On The Dramas I Have Watched This Year.....So Far

Love Scout

I love this drama. It was one of my most anticipated since it was announced last year or so. I didn't really know the characters except the female lead. I later watched the male lead for the first time last year in Dongjae The Good Or The Bastard.

I like the plot of Love Scout. The characters played their parts well. I especially love the male lead's daughter. She is so cute.

However, I don't feel the chemistry between the leads. To me, that's what's lacking.

Check In Hanyang

This one.. hmmmm. I watched it for the male lead. I like him so I am managed the very nonsense drama.

Motel California

I stopped watching this at episode 5. I refused to stress myself over 2 dramas (this and Check In Hanyang) that I don't really enjoy. The leads here are not my favourites so it was easy to drop it.

When The Phone Rings

I really enjoyed this one. The story was good. The chemistry was 'chemistrying'. I could feel the love and restraints the male had for the female lead from the 1st episode.

Towards the end, the suspense was gone but it was ok. This one was good.

Study Group

This is a really good one. I love the plot, the humour, the fights. The male lead is so sweet, loyal, funny, innocent and naive. Lol. I first saw him in Alchemy Of Souls and he was my favourite character. Then I watched him in Lovely Runner, enjoyed him there as well so I was looking forward to this and I am having a good time with it.

As much as I loved Weak Hero Class 1, Study Group tops it for me.
*The fight scenes are more interesting.
*The comedy is really good.
*More information on the male lead, why he learnt to fight, how is struggles with his academics etc..
*Also, the guy is sooooo naive and innocent. It's so cute.
*His is more likeabke
*The villain is psychopath. What surprised me about the bad guy here is that he is a very good fighter. He doesn't just hide behind his minions. Their fight at the end will be brutal.

I am curious about his dad because apparently he is some sort of a genius. So I am hoping they show us more of that aspect of the drama. I don't think the dad was pressuring him academically but I am sure the mum doesn't put pressure on him to succeed. I am also curious about the uncle that trained him and why they cut ties as per the mum's request.

I hope it continues to be enjoyable.

The Queen Who Crowns

I wasn't planning to watch this but I am glad I did. They are still some questions left unanswered and the drama is ending tonight. Hopefully it will be answered in the prequel airing this month....I think.
*It was mentioned in the earlier episodes that the King lived with the queen's family when he was just a prince. Why?
*Why did he kill his brother, the former crown prince?
*Why did the queen run towards them shouting "no" just as he killed his brother?

They should just answer the above for me in the prequel and I will be fine. That's the only reason I will be watching that.

The Trauma Code: Heros On Call

I watched this and it was just an ok drama for me. I really don't understand the hype around it. Doctor Romantic was much more better in every aspect. Far better in my opinion. It wasn't a bad or uninteresting drama but I have seen something better so I really don't get why this one has so much paparazzi around it.

The Scandal Of Chun Hwa

I didn't plan to watch this at all. Decided to try the first episode when it came out and enjoyed it. However, I told myself that I won't take this drama seriously. This is the most informal historical drama I have seen in kdrama. I don't even know the boundaries of the palace. The royal families interact with the public unlike other dramas where the people don't even recognise their rulers outside the palace. The language sounds modern to me but I am not so sure as I am not an expert on the Korean language.

Even more than the main leads, I am very curious about the crown prince and princess. It's obvious they like each other so I am waiting to see their backstory revealed. Why do they act the way they do towards each other?

Undercover High School
everything on this list is literally slop except study group

instead of Scandal Of Chun Hwa, watch the trunk instead

Update on The Queen Who Crowns

This king is the most annoying king I have ever encountered in kdramas. How can he kill all his wife's brother? Na wa o. And it's not as if he is a wise king because if not that she was his backbone throughout his reign, he would have been a failure. How did she not hate him though?
Both of them are the typical example of 'don't get involved in a couples quarrel because they will use you to settle '. After all he did to her, she still stayed with him and helped him be a good king.....though he is an idiot.
that's men for you

Gerrard59:
Nairaland is still running because there's no competition. It's literally Nigeria's indigenous-owned DISCUSSION FORUM. Most importantly, it came when Internet penetration wasn't widespread. So there has been an accumulation of information resources over 5 years from 2005 to 2010 followed by the widespread penetration of the Internet and proliferation of affordable smartphones.

It's the information resource that's the asset of Nairaland. Hence, any Google search about any topic from a Nigerian perspective brings up Nairaland. No other social media site can defeat it. Also remember that it's largely anonymous, thus, commentators can express themselves to a great extent.
there are a lot of competitors ,most are not as popular as nairaland

there used to be a BBS for Nigerians and Chinese born in Nigeria during obsanjo era

nairaland is not anonymous

when i was leaving secondary school, i stole someone's textbook and carried it home. i had no need to do so - i just did for whatever reason.

years later there was a period when i was having some academic challenges and the owner of the book appeared in a dream.

my take on your post - your mum placed the travails on things she subconsciously felt guilt about .

as an aside read up mentalism

which involved 'reading' people. con men, prophets, prophetesses use this when they tell people their family members are behind their travails. thye know what you are suggestible towards and they prey on that. if your fam was slightly different - this may have been pinned on a member or even your wife lipsrsealed

as I get older, i have come to expect that life is in cycles. Good times and bad times.

i went through a series of unfortunate events in 2012 -13 . (that was my way of describing what happened) that was the year i had the encounter with the robbers. i was also in an accident which i came out of unscathed. and some other issues.

just sayin'
that's karma for you

On this burial stuff, make I yarn una one story.

Mid 2022 - Early 2023, inexplicable things begin dey sup for our family.

Me, dem hold my promotion for office. This was despite acing the appraisal assessment and being recommended for promotion.

Business wey I establish as additional side hustle to my 9 - 5 run down.

Pregnancy wey my sister carry after years of TTC drop.

A cousin in Okitipupa commot for house to go work and never returned back.

A niece in the university, a very brilliant gal studying Nursing Science woke up one morning and begin dey kolo.

Popsy sef dey get incessant health issues that time.

E even reach my elder bro side for Cany, as hin lose hin good paying job.

etc etc

As in, everything just dey go wrong that time with all of us

Na so mumsy dream that period and in the dream, our paternal grandpa appeared to her and admitted to being behind our travails because popsy, our uncles and aunts no give am befitting burial when him kpai.

According to how she take narrate am, hin spirit dey aggrieved and is not at rest because he was buried dishonourably, and na why hin dey afflict us.

Keep in mind, that grandpa kpai in the late 90's.

She begin dey disturb and pile pressure on popsy and we the children say make we do the traditional burial rites and give grandpa a befitting sendforth to the great beyond.

Initially we refused but after unrelenting pressure from her, incessant calls and impressing it on us the children that popsy was aged, and may be called home soon, and customarily, we are barred from giving him a "befitting burial" because he didn't do such for grandpa, we caved and in and agreed to give grandpa a befitting burial in the form of a thanksgiving/remembrance.

Popsy being the oldest son called a family meeting and convinced his brothers, sisters and cousins. Dem pick date wey be last week of December 2023, do budget, share responsibilities and the bills.

Me, I don know say I no go travel go villa because wifey was due in January, and I couldn't leave her cos na me be her only support system.

Elder bro in Cany on PR visa was due for citizenship in January, and was solely focused on that and did not want to prolong his eligibility days by travelling to Nigeria.

Two cousins abroad in UK on care work visa were not coming too.

Everybody sent money and our cousins back in the villa did the logistics and running around.

We collect Aso-ebi. Bought two cows. Booked the community secondary school field and hired a traditional highlife musician with his band for the all-night party.

The traditional rites to appease grandpa's soul were done, Church thanksgiving/remembrance was done too,

The all night party was well attended, People ate, drank to their fill and danced merrily. Everything went well. Na so we take run the thing and everyone went back to base and their normal lives afterwards.

As we enter January 2024, my promotion came through and was backdated to October 2022 when I was originally due. All the arrears of the salary increment was paid to me with my January salary.

My cousin wey go work in Okitipupa and disappeard was found wandering in Oshodi in tattered clothes and bathroom slippers and clearly in a dishevelled state. He underwent rehabilitation and has fully recovered today.

My sister took in again in January 2024, carried the pregnancy to term and delivered a bouncing baby boy in September.

My niece studying Nursing Science in University deferred her programme for a session, underwent treatment & rehabilitation, and is now fully recovered, back in school and in her final year.

My elder bro's cany citizenship came through and he got a better paying job than the one he lost.

Popsy after being in and out of hospital in 2023 did not visit the hospital once in 2024.

And so on and so on...........

I no dey put stock for this kind spiritual stuff but these na things wey we experience for our family. and shey na just coincidence say things begin dey pick up for us after we buried grandpa "right", comments?

Random post: just remembered I forgot to talk about the trauma code: heroes on call after I finally finished it. It was simple, sweet and straightforward. No time wasting and I really wish more writers will take on this style of just dropping us right into the story instead of wasting our time with yeye build up and filler episodes. Choo young woo and his glasses were so cute, ju ji hoon was ju ji hoon as usual and I was glad to see hayoung more active cos the last time I saw her was in face me where she played a murder victim so 98% of her scenes there was her lying dead on the ground 🤣. Shout-out to Dr Han Yu rim for being hilarious as hell. It was interesting to learn that ju Ji hoon's character was actually based on a real life trauma doctor who also faced lots of opposition from the heads of the hospital he worked at

P.s: happy birthday to baek Jin hee Unni
