Please what are you driving towards?

Equal development with Lagos, which development is in Lagos that made it better

Is it faac allocation use that made lagos viable

This your statement is an hypocrite tribalism comments
Lagos, with a population of 20 million, gets an FAAC allocation of N21 billion. Delta gets N38, and Akwa Ibom get N30 billion. Akwa Ibom is constructing an 18-storey building in Lagos state despite getting approval to build the Ibom deepsea port in 2020. Lagos has built Lekki Deepsea Port, and Akwa Ibom is constructing skyscrapers in Lagos. The problem in the SS is their useless leaders.

You know the answers to these questions, there is nothing like a private sea port, you need the central governments permission and support for it to succeed.
The Senate President is Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom, the builder of an unprofitable stadium and yet the new governor of Akwa Ibom is constructing an 18-storey building in Lagos.

The uselessness of the SS leadership is shocking, if the Western leadership was this hopeless the gains of having Lagos as the former FCT would have been a liability.

Akwa Ibom is spending its limited resources to build an 18-storey building in Lagos; where is the logic in his decision? Akwa Ibom has been sitting on a plan to construct a deepsea port for 20 years with no action. A deepsea port in Akwa Ibom will attract investment and create jobs.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has initiated the construction of an 18-storey Ibom Towers at Plot 868A, Bishop Aboyade Cole, Victoria Island, Lagos, as part of its commitment to economic diversification.

The project, expected to be completed within 24 months, aims to boost revenue, create jobs for both Akwa Ibom and Lagos, and support economic growth by attracting investment and strengthening ties from its strategic location in central Victoria Island.

The groundbreaking ceremony, led by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday, October 30, attracted high-profile figures, including former Akwa Ibom Governors Udom Emmanuel and Obong Victor Attah, along with other dignitaries.

After 35yrs of it former status as FCT ask them if no development have taken place since then, yet some of the oil producing state collect more money monthly from Abuja.
The governor of Delta state wasted billions supporting Atiku and the PDP campaign in the 2023 election, funds that could have been invested in developing Warri seaport or even buying out the Warri Refinery.

The cost of drilling a barrel of oil in Nigeria is between $25 and $48 per barrel, depending on a number of factors, including insecurity, investment, and production location. It is among, if not, the highest globally!
https://punchng.com/nigerias-48-per-barrel-oil-production-cost-global-highest-faleke/
It's cheaper to produce crude oil locally in Nigeria for processing than to import crude oil from the USA and Brazil at $80 per barrel.

Even Dangote agreed with my point. If you extract crude oil at $48 per barrel and refine it into PMS, it's cheaper than importing it at $80 per barrel and refining the oil.

https://punchng.com/dangote-crude-oil-production-begins-2025-official/

Amid feedstock challenges, the Dangote Group, owners of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, will commence crude oil production in the first quarter of next year.

A senior official of the $20bn Lekki-based refinery confirmed this on Saturday while reacting to an earlier report by S&P Global Commodity Insights.

“Yes, I saw the S&P report; our company is truly going to start crude oil production to support the refinery, but it is going to start in the first quarter of 2025,” the impeccable Dangote refinery source, who spoke to one of our correspondents in confidence due to lack of authorisation to speak on the matter, stated.

The official noted that development would further ensure crude oil supply to the plant, stressing that efforts were ongoing to achieve this based on the target date.

Dangote got it wrong. He should have first developed his oil field before he completed his refinery.

However, the Publicity Secretary of Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, Dr Joseph Obele, said Dangote petrol might be higher because the refinery was processing imported crude oil.

Food. Clothes, Pharmaceuticals. Machines. Name it. Local production has suffered under this govt.
Nigeria imports all the basic raw materials it needs to produce stuff. Imagine being the largest cassava producer in the world, yet the country is importing glucose and cassava starch.

Nigeria has over 1 million refinery capacity and still imports refined products. The country is fixated on imports due to the country's dependency on crude oil exports.

No country can depend on imports if it only has one export earning(CrudeOil);

Nigeria was doomed to economic collapse due to increased debt profile and imports.

Imports only work if a country imports products that can be integrated into productive industries for export. Vietnam imports semiconductors to produce computers and refrigerators for export.

Edun is right import and the unproductive informal economy indicate that there is no prospect of economic growth

Stop spewing thrash, the inability of the states you mentioned to activate their seaports was systemic. They simply prevented from developing their seaports.
Lagos has just built a new deepsea port called Lekki Deepsea.

A private business owns Warri Port, and Awka IBOM launched a private deepsea port that has still failed to generate funds for development. GEJ was president for 6 years; why didn't he empower sea port development in Bayelsa state?

Always look for excuses instead of holding your governors to account. Wike is presently blocking funds for the Fubara government who do you blame.

Also regarding the ports isn't there something like exclusive list?
You know the same one that was the cause of the east not having a full international airport until recently?
Same as regards to ports as well
The rest i agree with because the allocation to the riverine areas is massive
Some regions have advantages, but nothing stops the other regions from exploiting their large human, agricultural and mineral resources to become self-reliant and developed.

Lagos is not going away, and the SW via Awolowo has been brilliant in integrating Lagos into their regional economy, but the enormous resources in the SS should be doing better than complaining. GEJ was the president of Nigeria for 6 year and fail to build a deepsea port in the entire SS.

Lagos is former Federal capital, federal seaport and airport
Rivers, Akwa Ibom Calabar, and Warri all have seaports and airports, yet we haven't seen equal development. The South-South states get the most FAAC allocation n and still have nothing to show for it. Lagos was the last capital in. 1989, 35 years ago.

the truth of this misconception is that Delta, Akwa-Ibom, Calabar and Bayelsa should survive more than Lagos if Nigeria will give states their resources and not have them depend on Feferal allocations.

The oil multinational companies paying Lagos heavy taxes should be in the Niger Delta states where their operators are based and Lagos Seaport is no different from Port Harcourt, Warri, Calabe etc.

Lagos state is an artificial creation of Nigerian government and federal monopoly.
Lagos state has a population of 20 million people buying, selling, and producing. Lagos and the River are prosperous not due to the oil tax but because of the infrastructures that support commerce, such as refineries, ports, shops, banks, and other productive activities.

As much as I don't have issue with improving IGR but how effectively have we addressed the leakages in the collection processes and in holding the government particularly the state and local government/LCDA
accountable in the judicious utilisation of the funds?

It is outright evil to continually tax the already impoverished populace to fund the flamboyant and wasteful lifestyle of politicians and civil servants.

Goto Oshodi, Abakpa, Lafenwa, Ogbuete, Igbudu , Mararaba, Headbridge among others and see what some traders sells, items less than 10k in total and these sets of people are still forced to pay an average of N500 - N1000 per day in the name of IGR.

Note: I am not againt improved IGR but it should not cost the blood of the people particularly the already impoverished ones.
Even unemployed people in UK pay a small tax against their benefit.

It's very noticeable how you skipped Democracy from 1999-2015 and went back to the 60s & 70s.

I don't know whether that was an oversight or you are playing a fast one

Obj is comfortable with his Yoruba kinsmen yet he had a very good spread of appointments, same as Yaradua.

Goodluck too was a local man who was previously surrounded by only Bayelsa people but when he became President he spread the love.

The only thing that set him apart from the previous two is that due to cowardice he gave much more spots to the North than any other region.

A decision which cost him in the end.

But that was to be expected as he is a weak man

Instead of you to note that APC has taken us back to entrenched tribal politics as seen in appointments by Buhari and Tpain, you are talking off point
I am not interested in the APC vs PDP debate because PDP leaders have profound political and economic flaws.

You are correct in your assessment that the PDP had a better spread of diversity in government. Still, they were equally corrupt and incompetent and, in my opinion, would have ended up the same way as the APC Tinubu / Buhari because they never instituted policies to support local industrialisation (Electricity, Petrochemical, Refineries, Steel, and Pharmaceutical development were nonexistent).

Without industrial development and political reform, the next stage was borrowing to fund imports and printing the Naira to stay relevant in government. Iwealla could not deliver any new policy under the weak and compromised GEJ.

PDP had 16 years to implement political reform and industrialisation, and they failed

Their failure to reform the political landscape opened the gate for corrupt and incompetent opportunists like Tinubu and Buhari.

I would rather have a government based on merit than diversity. Tinubu's government is built on political survival and self-interest. The man won only 8.9 million votes in a register of 97 million electorates; 67% of Tinubu's support came from the North. The crook didn't even win in Lagos and Abuja.

We should ask where is NASS's opposition government is to challenge this illegitimate government. There are more representatives from LP, PDP, NNPP, SDP, and APGA in the House of Assembly, and the opposition controls more states at the subnational level; finally, the Senate ratio of APC is 59: Opposition 50.

Democracy is about being firm in opposition. In 2016, the Saraki-led Senate blocked all Buhari attempts to borrow and steal funds. Had Atiku step down for a more competent political leaders maybe Buhari wouldn't have won in 2019.

The truth of the matter is Nigeria's ethnic diversity is a weakness; Nigerians are more comfortable with their ethnic group. Buhari government had a majority Fulani, Tinubu majority Yoruba, Shagari majority Fulani, and the NPC/NCNC government was dominated by Igbo NCNC members. Nigeria should return to the regional system of government

Data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority indicate that fuel consumption dropped to 4.5 million litres per day in August 2024, down from 60 million litres per day in May 2023—a staggering 92 per cent decline.
