Change is the only constant thing in the world. Every change is preceded and accompanied by pains. The PAIN of change is TEMPORARY but the GAIN will LAST LONG. It is insanity to keep doing things the same old way while expecting a different result. Ghana just removed subsidy on pms, a liter now is 170 naira. They have not gone on strike. If we fail to subsidize oil importers will ship our subsidized product there and profit more. Can't we reason and give Change a chance. Must we sacrifice the future of our children for comfort? Nigerians, let's think. Nothing good is ever achieved without sacrifice.

Only a fool will believe the lies of Shara's report. Check the pictures posted and you'll know it's nothing but a big lie. BB supporters will stop at nothing to rubbish JONATHAN. Well, it's few days before the reality will dawn on you that Jonathan is more preferred and widely accepted than Buhari. A man who toppled a democratic govt, made Lagos the most indebted state in Nigeria through his sectional policies, he canceled Lagos Metro line and lied about it. What a shame, some "sane" Nigerians are canvassing vote for a DICTATOR to become our president. |
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday took the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari to task over the latter’s reason for cancelling the Lagos Metro Line project 27 years ago when he was Head of State. President Jonathan asked Buhari to “come clean” on the real reasons for cancelling the project as Nigeria forfeited a whopping $60 million, which was part of the loan that had been paid by the Alhaji Lateef Jakande administration before Buhari toppled the civilian government in December 1983. Jonathan, who spoke through the Media and Publicity Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in a statement issued yesterday, said Buhari was economical with the truth about the cancellation of the contract and only gave “a specious political excuse” for dumping the project. The CPC candidate had while speaking to his political associates in Lagos on Wednesday said the project was cancelled because his government did not want to take more loans nor devalue the naira. His explanation was, however, a repudiation of that earlier offered by his spokesperson, Mr Yinka Odumakin, who said Buhari knew nothing about the cancellation and that it was the military governor of the state at the time, the late Gbolahan Mudashiru, who unilaterally cancelled the contract. “Sadly though, Buhari is all too economical with the facts. His spokesman, Mr Yinka Odumakin (said) a few weeks ago that Buhari knew nothing about the cancellation and that it was the late Gbolahan Mudashiru who unilaterally cancelled the contract. But, Buhari has categorically repudiated Mr. Odumakin’s poorly concocted lies. “But was Gen. Buhari himself telling the whole truth? The facts seem to point at a culture of lying at the CPC. Why would Odumakin lie against the dead? Was Buhari unaware of the huge penalty clause in the contract? So wherein stands his fib about avoiding loans? “We are appalled by this singular act that has compounded the traffic problems of Lagos, the seat of Nigeria’s economy. Gen Buhari needs to rehash a better tale.” The PCC added that Buhari was just trying to score cheap political points and was being clever-by-half when he said the project was terminated because of financing issues. It also accused the CPC candidate of contempt for the people of Lagos, wondering why he just found his voice to speak on the issue almost 30 years after the contract was terminated. “Firstly, the project, which was initiated by the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, was going on smoothly and on schedule before the coup-d’état by General Buhari. The project would no doubt have been completed on time if not for General Buhari’s coup and the transportation nightmare Lagosians face today would not have existed. “The visionary Jakande administration had concluded all the plans to finance the project, putting everything in place for its successful execution. The government had secured a $450 million loan at six per cent fixed interest rate for 25 years. At the time the project was cancelled the government had paid part of the loan and therefore had no worry about financing the project. “What Buhari failed to tell his Lagos audience was that with the short-sighted termination of the project, Nigeria forfeited a whopping $60 million, part of the loan that had been paid by the previous government. Buhari took that decision arbitrarily in spite of being warned of the consequences. BUHARI IS A LIAR, EXTREMIST AND SECTIONAL. |
Written by Ebenezer Adeniji Friday, 01 April 2011 [Muhammedu Buhari] Muhammedu Buhari Statesmanship is defined by an impartial concern for the public good. It also has a lot to do with the content of such a leader’s personal values. Globally, religious zealotry and ethnic jingoism clearly do not fit well as edifying values. This is why some watchers find Nigeria, and the Nigerian political space, somewhat strange. The value system of some of our national figures could be so overly diseased, and parochial; and rather than odium, it earns them praise and worship. For all that the late General Sani Abacha was and represented, it was bizarre that a section of this country lionised him. The production and selling of Abacha’s images in this part of the country is still strangely a brisk business, leaving one to conclude very strongly that, indeed, the major divide in this country is not situated in geography, but in thinking processes and value systems. The issue here is General Muhammadu Buhari, who has been angling to rule Nigeria in the past eight years. Buhari has been riding on the wings of just one point - purity from official corruption. Buhari has misled the man in the street, to believe that a clean slate on corruption is just all it takes to be a competent leader and a man of ideas. Without undermining the critical place of integrity in governance, Buhari’s score-card as military Head of State, between 1983 and 1985, firmly leaves one with no doubt that personal integrity, and competence, can be as far apart as the North and South poles. Buhari, as Head of State, amply showed that an indolent office secretary, who can be trusted with everything in the office, including office pins, has no more value than the efficient one with itchy fingers. PresidentJonathan has been around, only for nine months. Buhari ruled this country for close to two years. It will profit the system, if Nigerians, and the voters, should challenge Buhari on his achievements in government as Head of State. It is on record that from 1979 to 1999, no single investment was made in the power sector. This period included Buhari’s time in office. What steps did Buhari take on the country’s social and physical infrastructure? Buhari talks about the Midas touch, he will bring to bear on governance from May 29, yet does not feel any moral pinch, for his tactical side-stepping of his 1983 to 1985 score-card on campaign grounds. In productive climes, Buhari would never wish to breathe a word on the political scene, but this is Nigeria, a country of anything goes. Buhari’s relevance in today’s political equation rests squarely with Islamic activism. Buhari was the mastermind and cheer-leader of the blood-stained Sharia law campaign in the Northern region. It was murderous campaign, given the massive destruction of the lives and properties of southerners in the North in the wake of Sharia implementation in the states of the region. In the lead-up to the 2003 general election, in which he contested for the presidency, Buhari sent out a call that Muslims in the country should be guided by religion in their voting pattern. As the dangerous religious campaigns against President Jonathan flourished in mosques in the North, in radio stations in the region and by text messages, Nigerians, including Sule Lamido, governor of Jigawa State, a neighbouring state to Buhari’s Katsina, traced the ill-wind to Buhari. For Buhari’s supporters, it is just enough that Buhari is not corrupt, and more compelling to those of them that support him among the northern Muslim population is that he is a northerner, a champion of Islam, who wants to take power back from a southerner, and an “infidel” Christain. These ethnic and religious contents are entirely the drivers of every single support Buhari gets in the North. But for the larger health and well-being of all Nigerians, these must be seen and treated as the active ingredients of religious radicalism, terrorism and national security risk. Even in his campaigns in the North, Buhari’s attitude and style have been ominous. His northern political rallies come across more as religious revivals than political campaigns. Aware that he is a symbol of Islamic activism among his people, Buhari addresses his northern supporters, only in Hausa language, and would often not even bother to address the developmental challenges of the people. Buhari can do these among the northern youth population that converge for his rallies and get away because, he well understands that their presence was entirely motivated by religion, Islamic struggle and not governance issues. If religiousness is all it takes to drive a country on the path of productiveness, development and service delivery, then let the supporter of APC take over in Darfur, Boko Haram in Nigeria, the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda and Al Shabab in Somalia. Let Sharia take over in all Muslim countries, and Canon Law in those of the Christains. May Al Queada over take us all! But competence is the issue, and Buhari failed woefully, pathetically on this score between 1983 and 1985. Buhari despises the elite of his people, remaining ominously aloof, rigid and forebodingly one track-minded. These are all red flags! Nigerians should be circumspect. This man may not be corrupt, but there are certain alarms about him. Buhari clearly transmits red signals in the polity. It is clear that apart from the states of the North-West and North-East, his Congress for Political Change (CPC) would hardly earn 25 per cent of the total number of votes cast in the remaining states of the federation. By implication, two zones just cannot earn Buhari the presidency he is looking for, no matter their voting strength. As a fledging one-man party, his CPC also lacks a strong national presence, organisational and structural framework needed for strong political in-roads in all the states for a victory in a presidential election. It is also evident that the Buhari’s personality and character profile are assets to him only among the Hausa-Fulani of the North-West and partly North-East, and strictly for the Muslim population of the two zones, but a heavy personal baggage on him in the entire South, and the Christain-dominated North-Central, with a low population of the Hausa-Fulani stock. These scenarios promise yet another presidential election rout for Buhari. The huge worry is whether his CPC supporters, whom he has weaned on violence and religious bigotry, would allow peace reign after Buhari had gone down on April 9. Nigerians have been fed excessively with the issue of Buhari as lily-white to the extent that many now throw up. But I wish I were a presidential candidate. With all these debates, I would have given anything to have a one-on-one with Buhari. I would have loved to tell him to his face that the Lateef Jakande’s $60 million metro rail project for Lagos, which he cancelled immediately after he over-threw the Second Republic, has now accumulated a debt profile of over $3 billion for Lagos State, making the state the most indebted state to Paris Club in the federation. I would remind Buhari that Gbolahan Mudashiru, his Military Administrator for Lagos State, alerted him on the clause in the contract agreement that would yoke the state to this debt, if the contract was cancelled unilaterally, and that he replied Mudashiru, that he didn’t care a damn. Though the fund for the execution of that project which would have given the people of Lagos an intra-city light train transport system would not have come from Buhari’s Supreme Military Council, General Buhari, as Military Head of State, cancelled this wonderful project of the state government, with ethnicity on his mind. Buhari’s action of jailing Dr Alex Ekwueme, then Nigeria’s vice president, from Anambra, and keeping President Shehu Shagari, from Sokoto State in a house arrest in Ikoyi was also ethnically fired. So also was the shorter end of the stick he handed the South, as chair of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), in the execution of projects. Dr Adeniji is a UK-based chartered accountant |

I watched the repeat of NN24 Presidential debates twice yesterday and concluded the following: Only a bigot, idiot, religious fanatics will vote Buhari. He flopped in all the questions. He has not adapt to civilian system of govt, when asked how he will tackle corruption without violating the rights of the people he had no answer, all he said was nobody can still govt fund and get away with it. Anyone who vote Ribadu is hasty, he talks before reasoning. Jonathan was unavoidably absent. If presidential election is won by debate, Shekarau is the best candidate. They guy is brilliant, articulate, humble and experienced. He answered all the questions convincingly. Those who truly want the best candidate to lead us should watch the repeat of the debate, throw sentiment aside and follow your intellect. |
A GROUP, the Leaders of Thought in the North in Nigeria, has condemned the leader of the Northern Leaders Forum, Mallam Adamu Ciroma and the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari over what it described as their attempts “to throw the North in the flame of ethnic or tribal politics or any action that will create tension and violence in the North.” In a statement issued yesterday and signed by its Convener/President, Prof Ahmed Muhammed and Secretary General, Dr Adamu Abdullahi, the group said: “We the Leaders of Thought in the North of Nigeria have watched with keen interest the electioneering of all the party candidates vying for the exalted position of the President of our great and very dear country and the action and utterances of some members of the Northern Leaders Forum especially on the issue of zoning. “While we have identified serious contenders from just mere participants in the electoral contest, we, however, wish to make our position known on the issues of zoning and to also examine the utterances of some of the candidates in their campaigns as they relate to the North. “We are aware that the campaign team of General Muhammadu Buhari, especially his running mate, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has been trying to play the North against the South by saying that they would ensure that the North becomes the ‘Wild Wild North’ should the election be rigged in the zone. Since we expected the campaign team to disown the statement of Pastor Bakare and none was forthcoming, we have naturally assumed that he was merely echoing the thought of General Buhari who had also been calling for violence. “We condemn any statement or attempt by any individual to throw the North in the flame of ethnic or tribal politics or any action that will create tension and violence in the North. General Buhari and his running mate are merely speaking for themselves. We have not forgotten that it was General Buhari and his military adventurers that truncated our great country’s march to democracy in December 31, 1983 in a coup d’etat that sacked the government of our illustrious son, His Excellency, Alhaji Shehu Usmanu Shagari. “We cannot imagine the progress we would have made as a nation democratically had General Buhari and co not brutally brought governance to a standstill. We are still not sure why the North should support General Buhari or Pastor Bakare. “We as the voice of the Northern elite and intelligentsia do not believe in zoning and have expressed our position to Mallam Adamu Ciroma and his group on every occasion. The North does not believe in zoning. Mallam Ciroma and his group are only working for themselves. “We wish to commend both Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Dr Ebele Goodluck Jonathan on their campaigns. Both individuals have demonstrated maturity and decorum. These Nigerians have earned our trust and confidence, that they are not after the disintegration of Nigeria. President Jonathan has convinced us that he can be trusted with power and will protect the collective interest of Nigeria, including those of the North and South. “We wish to state affirmatively that General Buhari does not represent any progressive interest in the North. He belongs to the cabal represented by Ciroma and co that has brought backwardness to our people. We have therefore directed the people of Arewa to support President Goodluck Jonathan with the firm belief that Insha Allah in 2015, he will support Mallam Shekarau’s bid to lead our great country. |
JONATHAN ALL THE WAY The only thing Buhari keep screaming is corruption. You can't just harass people and throw them into jail just because you think the stole the nation's money. This is a democratic dispensation, things must be done well. If a thief is caught you have to arraign him in court and allow the judge to determine his fate. A president cannot do that. The other day Buhari said he will remove the immunity clause from the constitution, am wondering how he will do it without the law makers. Once a dictator always a dictator. A leader should be teacheable, Buahri seems to know it all. That's why the merger talk with ACN failed. A leader should listen, Buhari and Bakare are no listener. The Bakare who says Adeboye is bad is now courting his favor let's see if the church will vote for him. |
It's foolish for BB supporters to ignore the fact that Jonathan enjoys nation wide acceptance. BB no doubt will have a large show from the North, that's where it stops. How come none of BB supporters who think election is won by pictures post the pictures of the South- West rally held in Mapo hall Ibadan? I saw the scanty crowd, people gathered where Mallams. The following day Dame Patience filled the place to capacity with women. BB is a regional[Nothern star]. Let's see the crowd he'll pull in other Zones and states. Jonathan on the other hand has good showing in ALL the states because of PDP structure. If Bhuari could not win unpopular Yardua under ANPP, what makes you people think he'll win under his untested party CPC contesting with a wide accepted Jonathan? Buhari and Bakare believes if they don't win the election is rigged. They are so full of themselves while PDP and ACN are busy combing every corner of Nigeria they are fanning violence. Tunde Bakare has betrayed the Save Nigeria Group. Let's see what becomes of him after the election. Mark my word, if there is violence in the North during and after the election it will be caused by BB. They are power drunk, desperado. To them winning is a must yet they have no structure or the acceptance. I'll rather vote Okotie, or Pat Utomi than than these holier than thou BB. |
Poster, you are avoiding facts and becoming unnecessarily sentimental. Why am not claiming Goodluck is the most capable person in Nigeria to become president, but among the most popular figures, Goodluck, Buhari, and Nuhu if you will look at facts Jonathan is better. To begin with, why ain't we talking about candidates like Pat Utomi or Okotie since we want fresh air and intelligent leaders. Looks like something is wrong somewhere. 1. Clueless, you said but he has map out a clear and pragmatic plan for the power sector that is already being implemented. Except if you want to deny fact, there is improvement in the sector already. Buhari did not do that in his 20 months as Military dictator who controls all arms of government and resources. Up till now he has not told us what he will do in the sector. If Nigerians want to solve this power problem, a vote for GEJ is the only way. It will take any other party another 10 years. He is clueless but has ended scarcity of petroleum products and make it available all across Nigeria the first 2 months of his becoming president. He is clueless yet he appointed Jega, a man revered by many Nigerians as incorruptible to be INEC chairman. He is clueless yet made provisions for 100 schools for the Almajaris that roams the streets in North, Buhari a muslim did not do this and has no plan for such. This Almajiris are the people fermenting crisis in the North because of their illiteracy. He is clueless yet has awarded federal universities to states who hitherto do not. The list of his achievements in few months is long. 2.Nigeria is seeking something New. Yes, we a need university graduate, a civilian, a non Northerner, not a former head of State. GEJ is Buhari is not. 3. To End the Mis-Rule of PDP. PDP is not the problem of our country but poor leadership. It will be wrong for anyone to conclude that all Nigerian youths are internet fraudsters just because many are involved. Amaechi is in PDP, Donald Duke is in PDP, Akapbio, Aliyu and others who have made great marks in their states. I'll continue tomorrow, got to attend to other things now. uement |
