They were told to contact the hospital once they noticed any changes as that's the best way of tackling the disease, early detection. That's the protocol in Nigeria.

Just like you thought, a stye will give you an eyelid swelling. They are caused when some glands around the eyelid get obstructed and then become infected. Infection is usually painful with pus and most times caused by Staph. aureus. This usually responds to antibiotics.

A very similar condition is called a chalazion which is caused by occlusion of sebaceous glands in the eyelid. It is a chronic condition (can be present for a long time) and is usually painless or with minimal pain. A chalazion is usually not infected but it also can be infected. If there is no infection, it is usually painless and it doesn't respond to antibiotics.

I will guess you are having a chalazion. You can try warm compresses over the swelling up to 4 times a day. If this doesn't work, you might need to visit an ophthalmologist for other treatment options which include steroid injection into the swelling or surgical removal.

Doctors in the house,i greet all of u and thanks 4 touching lives.May God bless u all.Pls i need an advice concernin the issue i am havin.I hav this boil on my eyelids that has refused to go despite taking some medications like ampiclox and one other drug like that.The boil has been on my eyelids for a very long time.I went to d internet to find out wat it is and i found out that it is a condition called styes.Pls doctors in the house,wat powerful drug can u reccomend for me to solve this problem?
