The novel coronavirus is spreading across the world. The illness was first reported in late December in Wuhan, a city of 11 million people in central China's Hubei province. It has now found a foothold on every continent except for Antarctica, and many countries have declared a national emergency. The World Health Organization declared it to be a pandemic, the first since the H1N1 flu in 2009. Coronavirus symptoms can look like a common cold or flu. But for those with a weaker immune system, the virus could cause more serious illnesses like pneumonia or bronchitis. Some internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Abuja ignored the stay-at-home order on Friday, trooping to Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Catholic Pro-Cathedral in Garki, Abuja President Muhammadu Buhari had listed Abuja among the places he ordered a 14-day lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic. But on Good Friday, which is part of the Easter festivity, the IDPs stormed the church in their tens, demanding to be fed. They ignored the social distancing directive of health authorities as they lined in front of the church. Chikwe Ihekweazu, director-general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), says the use of face masks alone is not enough to protect people against the spread of COVID-19. Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River, had said there was no need for social distancing as long as people put on face masks. But speaking during the presidential task force briefing on Friday, Ihekweazu said the use of face masks can only be added to preventive measures and not used in isolation against the disease. “The masks are not going to solve the problems. There have been some messages around the country seeming to imply that wearing a mask makes all the other measures no longer necessary,” Ihekweazu said. “This is simply not the case. If we do offer an advice on wearing masks, it would be in addition to everything else, not be in place of it. So, we have to understand the reason for these measures.” The DG further said there is the need for better understanding of the meaning of social distancing, a term he proposed replacing with “physical distancing”. “A concept we had described as social distancing until now. I’d actually like to introduce a new term that probably better describes what we are trying to do, a move from the term social distancing to physical distancing, cos what we are not suggesting is for you to be socially apart from each other,” he said. “We’re not suggesting that you be physically apart but use technology and any other means available to you to increase your social relationship. “We have a peculiar challenge in Nigeria. We have one of the highest population densities in the world, which means we have the most peopel living in the same geographical space. It is this closeness to each other that really enables the virus to transmit from one person to another.” Commenting on the relaxation of the lockdown in some states over the Easter celebrations, Ihekweazu said while he understands that the lockdown is difficult for Christians during this period, “we need to pay a short term price for a long term goal” “There is no weekend more important for Christianity than this weekend. This weekend will be the hardest fro the christians among the Nigerian population but we need to pay a short term price for a long term goal and physical distancing is probably the most important tool,” he said. https://www.thecable.ng/ncdc-dg-wearing-face-masks-alone-cannot-protect-you-from-covid-19/amp

A 107-year old Dutch woman has recovered from the coronavirus, and is believed to be the oldest survivor of the pandemic in the world. Cornelia Ras fell ill on March 17, the day after her 107th birthday, Dutch newspaper AD reported, after attending a church service with other residents of her nursing home on Goeree-Overflakkee, an island in the southwest of the country. She and 40 others at the service were subsequently diagnosed as carrying the virus. Twelve of that group have since died, but Ras was told by her doctors on Monday that she had beaten the infection. ‘We did not expect her to survive this’, her niece Maaike de Groot told the newspaper. ‘She takes no medicines, still walks well and gets down on her knees every night to thank the Lord. From the looks of it, she will be able to continue to do so.’ Prior to Ras, the oldest widely documented coronavirus survivor was Bill Lapschies, a 104-year-old American. The UK’s oldest surviving paitient is Keith Watson, 101, who left the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, after beating the illness. https://metro.co.uk/2020/04/10/107-year-old-woman-oldest-survivor-coronavirus-12536607/

Football has been suspended indefinitely due to escalating coronavirus crisis Bevan has also heavily criticised proposals to implement an 'amazingly tight schedule', which estimates that the EFL season may be completed across 56 days. And following the news that clubs were sent a letter from the trade union, which stated their hope that the campaign could be completed in the summer, he said: 'You're going to have to get the support of the coaches and managers. You do not do that by not talking to them. 'You do not get the end-product or working together if you just send a letter out without actually taking their advice or thoughts.' The LMA have been heavily involved in recent talks concerning players taking wage cuts amid the pandemic, with pressure on senior figures in the sport having been ramped up following calls for footballers to act.

Football in England can't resume until EVERY player has been tested for coronavirus, says LMA chief Richard Bevan... but he insists priority is given to NHS workers and patients LMA chief executive Richard Bevan says the football season can only resume once every player has been tested for coronavirus. But Bevan believes that 'tests must be available first' for NHS workers and patients, with the current campaign having been halted indefinitely due to the escalating pandemic. According to Bevan, once the health service and those affected by the disease have been allowed access to testing, then football could also implement a similar policy to ensure the season can be played to a conclusion. But the LMA chief believes NHS staff and patients must be prioritised first The EFL have been asked to discuss restarting the action with individual managers across its three divisions. He told BBC Sport: 'You're going to have to get the goodwill of the players because you're going to have at least three weeks of training to get back on the pitch at least,' he said. 'The most important thing guiding every principle is health, and getting back on the pitch without ensuring fully-fit players is a very big call to make. I would like to see more debate.' But with the United Kingdom still struggling to battle back against the health crisis, Bevan says that widespread testing will be the most effective course of action in allowing football to return. He added: 'We're not really going to see more accurate forecasting about when we can get on the pitch until the end of April. 'In Germany, if you look at discussions about coming back in May, that's probably a direct result of some very clear thinking from their government because they're doing 50,000 tests a day. 'In this country we're doing 10,000 per day, although the government are targeting 100,000 each day by the end of the month. 'Our managers do not want to be back on the pitch unless the players have been tested. But at the same time the government must confirm that is OK, because the tests must be made available first - if there's a shortage - to care workers, patients, NHS staff and their families.' https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-8208751/Richard-Bevan-says-season-resume-players-tested-coronavirus.html

Why are they going hiding, I hope they will submit themselves for isolation rather than spread the virus to more innocent families and friends. Coronavirus is not a death sentence, we've heard cases of people testing negative after going on isolation. I pray this virus ends in this month of Easter which our Lord Jesus rose from the cross.
