Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), says it is time for Nigeria’s healthcare system to be taken seriously, especially now that nobody can seek medical care outside the country.

On Thursday, Mustapha had said his role as chairman of the presidential task force on COVID-19 opened his eyes to the poor state of Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure.

At a briefing on Friday, the SGF said the government at all levels have not been doing as they ought ought to.

“Primary health systems are exclusively the responsibility of the local government, the secondary health system, that’s where the state comes in. The federal government has responsibility only for the tertiary. But over the years, there has been abdication of responsibilities, you find the federal government even investing in the primary healthcare system. That’s why we have an agency,” he said.

“If you look at the total aggregate of the commitment of the government to health, it might not be 15% but we are near that.

“By the nature of our politics, even at the federal level, you find constituency projects that are primary health clinics. If you are to get the number of primary health clinics we have all over Nigeria, it’s over 10,000, but how many of them are working?

“So, it is a major issue, and that was part of my address yesterday when I spoke to the national assembly. We need to sit back and reconstruct our investments into the healthcare system. The federal government is doing a lot. Right now, there is a provision of 1% from the consolidated revenue fund which goes to the basic health care provision funds. I think it’s domiciled in the primary health care agency for distribution, the different sectors of our health system.

“We are doing good but not as good as we ought to. Investments into our healthcare infrastructure must be looked at, seriously. Right now nobody can go elsewhere to seek medical attention, so probably this is the right moment we have to be reflective and sit back and begin to address these issues. Nobody ever thought you couldn’t go anywhere to seek medical attention. Three months ago if you were told, you would not, it would not happen. But we are all confined here now.”

He added that he believes that this period would help in reflecting on how Nigeria deploys its resources going forward as a nation, with a focus on the basics that touches the lives of the people.

You can tell that to your gullible followers and not me sad
These Buhari appointees are more or less a coterie of court jesters. grin

Alibaba should not be scouting for upcoming stand-up comedians when we have a pack of professional political comedians in the presidency.

Which law backs up your pronouncement
Buhari and APC would have enrolled in a three-month crash course on governance upon assuming power at the centre.

"When a cat(Buhari) is not around(incharge), rats(Cabal) will start claiming territory" ~African proverb grin

The President-Maj.General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.),on Friday said Nigerians should not continue going abroad for medical treatment.

“Nigerians have suffered so much going abroad for medical treatment. This is not good for us & it must stop because we can’t afford it again" The President, who him self had travelled to the United Kingdom for treatment on several occasions."

Guess you've preached this gospel to the real and defacto president? One wonder the kind of weed appointees under this APC government do smoke. They think every Nigerian is just a cow they can take for granted.

The way you arrange your bed, that's exactly how you going to lie on it.

Our leaders that have been fond of traveling abroad for treatments, even when they are having common head aches, by now they should be confronted with the the realities on ground. As they have failed to develop our health infrastructures, they should be forced to make do with what we all have been making do with it. And I bet they wouldn't like what they experienced.

Let's stay strong.

We are holding up well.

And this is why.

It's been 6 weeks since the Italian came with COVID.

6 weeks after Italy got their first case they had suffered 10,000 deaths.

We have just 7 dead.

In 6 weeks, Feb 26 - March -April, America went from about 50 cases to almost 500,000 cases.

We are just at 305.

Let me bring it into clearer focus.

On February 28 2020, we had one case. America had 60 confirmed cases.

Today we have 305 but America has about 500,000.

Okay let's use Untited kingdom that is about a third our population.

On February 8, Uk had 16 cases . We had one.

Today Uk has 70,000. We have 305.

We have no reason to panic.

God is on our side but we must not let him down.

Here is why we must not relax.

On February 27 We had one confirmed case and UAE had just 13. Both countries held up well. By March 31 UAE had 611 and we had about 131.

Today UAE of about 10 million people now has 3,360 but We have 305.

Let's be careful.

On March 6, 2020 Spain had just about 365 confirmed cases. Today they have 158,000 with about 15,800 dead.

We are doing well. But we have to keep our eyes on the ball.

Stay safe . God bless you.

Happy Easter
