Politics / $16b Power Project: I’m Ready For Probe, Obasanjo Dares Buhari by Sunnynwa: 7:58pm On May 22, 2018
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that he is ready for probe over the $16b Power Project.
He made this known in a statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.

The statement reads, ‘It has come to the attention of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo that a statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari, apparently without correct information and based on ignorance, suggested that $16 billion was wasted on power projects by “a former President”. We believe that the President was re-echoing the unsubstantiated allegation against Chief Obasanjo by his own predecessor but one’.

Obasanjo argued that while it is doubtful that a President with proper understanding of the issue would utter such, it should be pointed out that records from the National Assembly had exculpated him (Obasanjo) of any wrong-doing concerning the power sector and has proved the allegations as false.

“For the records, Chief Obasanjo has addressed the issues of the power sector and the allegations against him on many occasions and platforms, including in his widely publicised book, My Watch in which he exhaustively stated the facts and reproduced various reports by both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which conducted a clinical investigation into the allegations against Chief Obasanjo, and the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Review of the Recommendations in the Report of the Committee on Power on the Investigation into how the Huge Sums Of Money was Spent on Power Generation, Transmission And Distribution between June 1999 and May 2007 without Commensurate Result,” he boasted in the statement.

Obasanjo urged Buhari and his co-travellers to read Chapters 41, 42, 43 and 47 of My Watch for his insights and perspectives on the power sector and indeed what transpired when the allegation of $16 billion on power projects was previously made.

“If he cannot read the three-volume book, he should detail his aides to do so and summarise the chapters in a language that he will easily understand,” Obasanjo added.

Politics / Buhari Praises Abacha: He Built Roads, Hospitals. by Sunnynwa: 4:46pm On May 22, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has praised late military dictator Sani Abacha for his work in building infrastructure.

Speaking at the villa on Tuesday when he hosted the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO), led by Hameed Ali, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Buhari said that regardless of what anyone thinks about Abacha, it must be remembered that subsequent civilian presidents spent billions on naira in infrastructure yet have had little to show for it.

In a comment that appeared directed at former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Buhari specifically noted: “You know the rail was killed and one of the former Heads of State between that time was bragging that he spent more than 15 billion American dollars not Naira on power. Where is the power? Where is the power?”

The President also spoke about the nation’s buoyant crude oil earnings in the past, compared to the meagre earnings during his administration, wondering why past governments ended up in debt rather than a deep purse.

“I have to repeat what I want public to know here. Some of you may not have heard it. Either there is no power in your place or even in the television, I said and I challenge anybody to check from Europe, Asia and America. Between 1999 and 2014, Nigeria was getting 2.1 million barrels per day at average cost of $100 dollars per barrel,” he said.

“It went up to $143. So Nigeria was earning 2.1m million times 100 times 16 years seven days a week. When we came, it collapsed to $37-38 and it was oscillating between 40 and 54 sometimes. I went to the Governor of Central Bank; thank goodness I did not sack him; he is still there! I went with my cap in my hand but there were no savings, only debt.

“And you know more than I do the condition of the roads and some of them were not repaired since PTF days. No matter what opinion you have about Abacha, I agreed to work with him and the PTF road we did from here to Port Harcourt, to Onitsha, to Benin and so on... On top of other things in the institution, education, medical care and so on.

“You know the rail was killed and one of the former Heads of State between that time was bragging that he spent more than $15billion, not naira, on power. Where is the power? Where is the power? And now we have to pay the debts and this year and last year's budgets I took to the National Assembly were the highest in capital projects: more than N1.3trillion.

“Let anybody come and confront me publicly in the National Assembly. What have they been doing? Some of them have been there for 10 years. What have they been doing? So, really, this country, luckily for me, I said it about eight years [ago] that we have no other country than Nigeria, we should remain here and salvage it together no matter what you have outside.”

Buhari queries Obasanjo over $16bn power project

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday querried the spending of $16 on power project during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The president was speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving the Buhari Support Organization led by the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Ahmed Ali.

Buhari did not mention Obasanjo's name, but asked where was the power after a former president claimed to have spent $16bn on the project.

The House of Representatives had in 2008 described $16 billion spent on power by Obasanjo's government as colossal waste, blaming it on "poor budget planning and a lack of proper oversight by relevant bodies.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project had also in 2016 urged the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Water Samuel Onnoghen, to immediately appoint an independent counsel to investigate allegations of corruption in the spending of $16 billion on electricity by Obasanjo's government.

Romance / "I’ll B Getting Married On D 3rd Saturday In May To A Man I'm Not In Love With" by Sunnynwa: 10:15am On May 22, 2018
I’ll be getting married on the 3rd Saturday in May to a man I am not in love with.

***

An ideal romantic, I have always believed in love. I looked forward to being swept right off my feet by Prince Charming. I’m the type who would weep over a love tale well told and cheer as the couple in the movies kiss and live happily ever after.

Now, however, after a really bad relationship and 28 years in the bag, I have realised that that feeling of being in love is overrated and is the final and most negligible consideration in looking for a mate. Any guy I loved never loved me back to the degree I loved. They were bad guys, sharp guys that special kind of fine guys. It never lasted. Most relationships I have been in, I have been the 70% giver, while I’d make do with whatever measly 30% the other party offered now and then. I’d lap it up like a thirsty kitten, grateful for the occasional love thrown my way.

Bode was the worst of them all. Everyone warned me against him, even his sister who loved me as her own. I stayed with him for 26 months of my life and even when we split, it was he who did the breaking up. He had cheated and cheated, it got to the point that I was now grateful to be called or visited. I stopped checking his phones because I knew what exactly I would find there and I could not bear the pain anymore. I would complain and scream and he will get mad at me for snooping on him and eventually, I would be the one apologising for not ‘trusting him enough’.

I would purpose in my heart to break up with him but find myself staying on the minute I heard his voice and he talked that talk to me. He turned me into a shadow of myself. I became a crazed out girl keeping tabs on his every move. I’d go out weekends with him just to ensure he does not hook up with any other girl. I’d randomly show up at his because I heard a lady’s voice in the background when I called. Eventually, he did the breaking up himself telling me he doesn’t deserve me. I never thought I’d beg a guy to stay with me but I did. I begged Bode, told him I wasn’t complaining. I even told him that I understood that because we are age mates he might feel the need to spread his tentacles and that I would patiently wait for him to outgrow his ways. He passed on my offer.

***

I’ll be getting married to Tayo. Tayo is born again. He doesn’t have the ready sweet words to speak. He doesn’t dress so nicely. He doesn’t get me or keep me excited. But in him, I’ve found peace and joy. Tayo would leave whatever he is doing if I need his help. He would ALWAYS drive down to the airport to pick me up when I come visiting him in Abuja. It would have been more convenient for him to have me take a cab. The day he offered to do that, I was surprised. Bode would NEVER do that. At his kindest, he’ll ask his driver to come get me. He’ll probably simply ask me to get a cab and he’ll pay. Tayo would never sleep until he has spoken with me, prayed with me and wished me a good night. With Bode, I’d be the one calling and calling.

Tayo has showed me that it is possible to have a good guy, a guy who cherishes and respects you and most importantly, loves God and puts Him first. His level of consideration towards me still baffles me. I never knew such was possible and this is why I shied away from a relationship with him initially. It all seemed too good to be true. But it has been 11 months of courtship and he has remained the same steadfast, loving, caring man I first met.

As I walk down the aisle, I am sure my belly will not have butterflies in them but I’d walk down confident of the fact that I am placing my life in the hands of a good man. A man who takes instructions from God and passes them on to the home with love. A man who values family and togetherness and would put me before anything and anyone else. A man with whom I am sure I play second fiddle to no one but God. A man who would be a good role model to our children. A man who would stand by me no matter what happens in the home.

My mom has assured me that the sweeping love will come once the sex begins. Apparently, once you start sleeping with a man, the love grows. I look forward to it. But right now, I’m in a happy, content place.

I might not be with the handsome charmer I longed for as a young teenager. He might not have the best physique in the world. He might not have funny things to say to me all the time. He might not be able to make my heart do somersaults. He might not have the latest clothes and shoes nor know the latest slangs young peoples say. He might not understand my love for E! news and Yoruba movies. But of this I am sure:

I am with the man God selected, handpicked for me. I’m with a man with whom I feel safe, secure, looked after, cared for, pampered. I’m always relaxed. I don’t have to check his phones or wonder who he is speaking with. My heart doesn’t have to skip beats when he is not with me. I don’t have to call him 10 times before I get one call back from him. I’m not pressured to do anything ungodly instead I am challenged to draw closer to God and know Him more that I might be a deserving wife to the man God designed for me and that I may bring him as much joy and bliss as he does me. If you call this settling then yes, this girl HAS settled.

Regards,

Folu…

Politics / Peter Obi Buries Sister: To Build Hospital & School In Her Honour - Pics by Sunnynwa: 12:24pm On May 20, 2018
Peter Obi To Build Hospital, Roof School Blocks In Honour Of Late Sister.

By Tai Emeka Obasi

When his eldest sister, Lady Bibiana Adani breathed her last on April 13, 2018( three days to her 63rd birthday), and arrangements of her final farewell began, Mr. Peter Obi was firm in his stance that the dead should be quietly buried with as minimal expenses as possible. His brothers and nephews tried to make him shift but met a stern brick wall. The former Anambra State governor is not called Okwute for nothing. He has long molded his philosophy of life and nobody, not even age, could shift him from his firm beliefs and practices.

To start with, he didn’t tell people, even those very close to him, were not invited to the burial that took place on May 18, 2018. But the deceased had other brothers besides the ex-governor, which included Rev Father Fabian Obi. She had sons, daughters, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law. So people were told and invited for the burial. Mr. Obi also knew that people were invited and from calls and condolence messages he received from many as the burial approached he knew there were going to be a huge crowd to be entertained. But he stayed in his lane.

At the burial mass that was officiated by the bishop of Enugu, Most Rev Callistus Valentine Onaga, the testimonies of how well the late woman lived her life were full of good tidings. And it was exemplified by the auxiliary bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Jonas Benspn Okoye, who delivered the homily.

‘’I prayed to God for one thing when His Lordship, Bishop Onaga invited me to be part of this burial mass. I prayed he should let me handle the homily…and God, who has never failed to answer my prayers to Him, just did it.

‘’When a very good woman, who lived a very exemplary life like the one lying inside this coffin before us today gets to this stage, priests scramble to deliver the homily. Because there is something good to talk about. I am no exception. Let me sum it up thus – if a woman who lived in Onitsha of all places is being described as one that touched a lot of lives the way she did, then she’s going straight to heaven. She was a woman, who quietly and humbly helped, advised and generally impacted positively on so many people. She exemplified the family from Agulu she came from,’’ Bishop Benson extolled.

He talked further on the very good qualities of the woman, who left this world at just 62. At 22 she was already wedded and blessings of the womb followed in good number.

At the end of service, Bishop Onaga called on the former governor to appreciate well-wishers that gathered to pay last respect. By then the former governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Liyel Imoke and entourage had grown the number that included former Anambra State SSG, His Honour Oseloka Henry Obaze and wife, former commissioners Joemartins Uzodike, Dubem Obaze, Dr. Patrick Nky Obi, Ndubisi Menakaya. Also there were Chief Okey Ezibe, Chief Benji Ubah and a host of others.

Mr. Obi took the microphone, appreciated the bishops, priests and everyone present, then went on to astonish all of them.
‘’When my sister died, I told my nephew Jude and his siblings that I wasn’t getting involved with burial expenses and entertaining the people during the ceremony. That it’s their mother and they should handle that.

‘’However, I knew that for the life my dear sister lived, I needed to do something to remember her by. So I asked and found out that a good secondary school in the Adani village that has a population of over 500 students have blocks of leaking roofs all over. So I asked for what it would cost to re-roof the entire blocks and they came back with a quotation of N4 million. I am going to roof that school. I equally asked if they had a good hospital to which they responded there was none. I am going to build one in her village for them. These are my own entertainment contribution to my sister’s goodbye ceremony,’’ Mr. Obi concluded.

Despite the solemnity of the occasion the church erupted with people’s acknowledgement applause. Bishop Onaga was so marveled that he took back the microphone to not only express profound gratitude to the former governor for his very thoughtful gestures but also made a wider call to Nigerians to emulate such lifestyle. The man of God further lamented that we waste so much resources burying the dead, forgetting that those living have obligations to meet.

To others in the church, questions were flying around, ‘’from which part of the planet did this Peter Obi come from? He’s always different and unique in his approach to issues…’’
At the burial proper, many more dignitaries came to condole the former governor. Among them were Senator Victor Umeh and his wife.

The ceremonies continue today in Agulu, her father’s compound as customary.

Politics / Why Nigeria Will Remain Backward - Mbe by Sunnynwa: 11:27am On May 17, 2018
The Lagos commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,NSCDC didnt know the website of his organisation.
Sports Minister;Solomon Dalung wasnt sure how "the funds spended were properly spended" in the 2016 allocation to his ministry.
Now,there is evidence that the Inspector General of Police cant read.Someone lamented about the number of senior police officers that were summarily retired to make way for him to become IG.

In NNPC and other such government departments, you have "directors","engineers",etc, who cannot be hired for a basic job in a non-government oil firm. Most states are well represented in NNPC,CBN etc but you wont see this same states representation in Chevron,Mobil,Taxaco,Shell etc.You wont see them as directors in GTB,Diamond Bank,Access Bank etc but they would be directors, managers in CBN.

Quota system, federal character,"sharing the national cake" is why Nigeria will remain a backward country.

Nigeria will remain backward until it is restructured.Let the IGP head the police in his state and speak the language his people will understand or even remain as the head of the federal police but let Enugu state have their own chief of police who may wish to communicate in Igbo if he cant speak or read English.

Restructuring is that simple!

It won't take your jobs from you because you are not qualified. It would simply allow others to be in charge of their own lives and develop at their own pace.

Crime / Re: ”How My Ringing Tone Saved Me From Ritualists' Den In Lagos” – Man Reveals by Sunnynwa: 9:17pm On May 14, 2018
CastedDude:
A man identified as Maynus Francis Chukwuekezie has narrated in details how he was saved from the hands of evil men in a ritual den in Lagos. According to the man who shared his testimony in front of the church at the just concluded crusade in Ikorodu, he was saved by his phone's ringing tone.

Below is his testimony as sent by the church. Read below;

My name is Bro Maynus Francis Chukwuekezie. I joined Chosen in March 2008 during the program titled, " GOD HAS THE ANSWER"
I live in Ikorodu area of Lagos, but I am working in Ogun State.

It happened that on Friday morning, I boarded a bus to Oshodi, but the bus stopped at Toll Gate and the driver asked all of us to come down and board a bus with the two mobile police standing by, which we all did, on getting to Meron bus stop, the driver diverted to the right. I asked him, where are you going? he answered and said that he was dodging from Abule-Egba traffic, and that was all I knew and could remember before I became unconscious.

When I regained consciousness , I saw my self in a big hall inside the forest. I haven't declared who I am by the time all these where happening. Those inside the bus with me weren't aware of what was going on because they haven't regained consciousness by that time. Inside the hall, I saw skulls hanged up and down, and also people that were naked with their undies on.

As I was inside the hall, I began to ask myself where am I? And one of the police heard it and told me to shut up, that I am very stubborn and that very soon my skull will hang like others over there, which I rejected by saying God forbid, my skull cannot hang there. They seized my phones and properties with me and took it into their office.

After the argument, my phone began to ring, and it was singing " The God of Chosen answers Prayers" so they began to fight themselves and there was confusion inside their office, they brought out the nylon bag into the hall and threw it on the floor, asking "who brought this thing here"? And I answered, it is my phone, and it was returned to me.

After the phone was returned to me, their boss came out angrily and said that you people should be looking at face first before you bring people here, and he ordered them to take me away with the same bus that brought me, that was how I came out of their den unhurt.

I was dropped where I can get a bus back and then someone directed me to a Deeper life pastor who helped me back to Lagos.
When I asked someone where I was , I was told it was Ondo State.

My advise to others is to follow the G.O's word and direction to declare whom they are whenever they encounter danger. If not for my phone that spoke for me, I don't know where I would have been by now.

Praise the Lord!

deji17:
Nigeria’s capital importation grows by 594%

by BUNMI BAILEY | May 11, 2018

The total value of capital imported in the first three months of 2018 (Q1) stood at $6,303.63 million, which represents a 594 percent increase (year- on–year) from $908.3 million in Q1 2017, according to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Anambra does not need another substandard Sh!t called stadium. Such as the Linda Ikpeazu stadium in Onitsha. Its better to build a world class international conference center that can bring important conferences to be hosted in Awka.

In the future a wide expanse of land to accommodate an international level stadium with parking for at least 1,000 cars can be built somewhere along Awka-Onitsha expressway to make sure it's easily accessible.

I don't know how you guys reason. How on God's earth do you rate the benefit of international conference centres higher than that of mini stadia in various locations?

Yes, we shouldn't embark on constructing mega stadia but mini stadia like the Linda ikpeazu stadium in Onitsha will provide the youths with places to develop their sports skills which are highly marketable. Co french centres can be left the private sector.
