Arosa:I agree and also do not agree. I personally want all black people scattered around the world repatriated to Africa. Even the ones that have turned their back on the continent should be dragged back to the 'Mother land'. At the same time all non blacks (eg Arabs, Caucasians,Asians) should be forcibly removed from Africa. I estimate there to be around 1 Billion black people worldwide - individual countries such as China and India have more people. Blacks should be the most populous ethnic group in the world - We once were!! However, we need to be spread out more evenly across Africa. |
They are proposing a way to hand themselves over to The Hague,” Abdel Majid Mlegta, a senior National Transitional Council military official told Reuters on Wednesday. Saif al-Islam is reportedly making his way towards Niger in an attempt to flee the country after the victory of the revolution. Former Tuareg leader Rissa ag Boula said on Tuesday that he is being ferried by ethnic Tuareg tribesmen. His brother Sa'adi took the same route to Niger to flee Libya in September. Saif al-Islam is wanted by the International Criminal Court for committing crimes against humanity. There have been conflicting reports about the fate of Saif al-Islam with some accounts stating that he was captured and wounded when Sirte was taken by revolutionary fighters last week and others citing Libyan military officials as saying that he had lost his arm. Niger's government has said that members of the Gaddafi regime seeking refuge in the West African nation will not be turned back to Libya without guarantees for their safety. Gaddafi was killed in his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, eight months into an uprising that put an end to his 42-year dictatorship. On Tuesday, Gaddafi and his son Mo'tassim were buried in a secret location in the country's Sahara desert, Abdel Majid Mlegta said. MP/JR/HGH http://www.presstv.ir/detail/206782.html |

There is an urgent need to address the nation's population growth which continues to bulge exponentially. At the current annual growth rate of 3 per cent, the United Nations projection is that in 20 years time Nigeria's population could reach a staggering 300 million from the present estimate of close to 160 million. In fact Nigeria is today rated among the fastest growing countries of the world. Ordinarily this should be a plus for us but with the way things are, it is not. Experts therefore warn of the dire consequences of this uncontrolled population growth. The prognosis is that there may come a time when it would be difficult for us to feed the ever increasing number of people, hence the need to avoid the type of crisis recently witnessed in some African countries. We understand that some people may dismiss this as mere Western propaganda aimed at keeping developing countries from having large population both for defence in times of war and as a future workforce. They could point to China and India as countries with huge populations harvesting the "demographic dividends" of huge populations. Yet we should not fail to realise the fact that even China has kept its population at bay with its one-child per couple policy while the Indian state encourages Some form of family planning. In any case, an idle (and largely illiterate population) such as we breed in Nigeria today is a disaster waiting to happen. We are not oblivious to religious practices and beliefs that frown at any talk of over population and therefore regard any suggestion that hints at birth control as heresy. However, it is a simple economic fact that population over-growth that is not matched with commensurate development in the socio-economic sector and education for the citizenry can only breed chaos. On a positive note, however, we also understand that at a time when the population of many countries in Europe and Asia is ageing, Nigeria's young population could be a demographic advantage but only if the policy makers can design appropriate policies in that direction. There is therefore the need to invest massively in education which is critical for the future. There is also the need for development in infrastructure so as to ensure sustainable support for the bulging size of our national population. For instance, clean water is a finite resource everywhere in the world and moreso in our country where access is not guaranteed for the vast majority, especially in the rural areas. With just four years to the 2015 target date of UN's Millennium Development Goals (MDG) programme, Nigeria is not showing any sign of achieving the set goals in such critical areas as job creation, food security, universal basic education, provision of shelter for all and poverty eradication. Here then is the underlying fear in the face of a population growth that cannot be matched with a sustainable infrastructure and social services. It is a scary scenario. It is against this background that we welcome the recent International Conference on Nigeria's bulging population at the Lagos State University Ojo. Both Lagos State and the Federal Government were very well represented at the conference held under the auspices of the Population Association of Nigeria (PAN). Among other things, the conference was advertised as one of such efforts to arouse the interests of stakeholders and governments towards taking concrete steps to tackle the nation's population explosion. Experts used the occasion to make a case as to why we must pay attention to our growing population. Much as we do not wish to engage the nation's two major religions on the issue of population and birth control, it is nevertheless appropriate to warn of the danger ahead. There is no doubt that a sustainable society is the one with moderate population growth that enables its members to achieve a high quality of life in ways that are ecologically sustainable. Unless policy makers begin now to focus their attention on how to avert this ticking time bomb the consequences could be devastating and very difficult to reverse http://allafrica.com/stories/201110260753.html |
'Abia' Special Adviser Warns 'Imo' Governor Okorocha - Leave Abia State Alone! Your Excellency, my dear Governor Rochas Okorocha, It is with a great sense of responsibility that I respectfully request you to leave Abia State alone and concentrate on the very many realities starring you in the face in order to avert our releasing documents, records and authentic reports capable of shaking your structures to it's very foundation. Iam constrained to write you this open letter in view of your obvious acquiescence to the motive and gregarious method your officials and known agents have adopted in the prosecution of an unprovoked, unjust, campaign of calumny against the people and leaders of Abia State. You know very well that on Tuesday 4th October 2011 on page 14 of the Vanguard Newspaper, your infantile Information Commissioner, one Obinna Duruji, took the liberty to insult and malign the government of Abia State with invective meant to scorn your colleague, His Excellency, Chief T.A. Orji. Before then, one of your agents, a certain inconsequential Mbaise boy called Obi Nwakanma had on page 23 of Sunday vanguard of 18/9/11 used unprintable words to cast aspersion on our government. Then your Pini Jason, that faceless Jelly fish that saw to it that Chief Ikedi Ohakim was thoroughly misled and who connived with an agency in Surulere Lagos to swindle Imo State of tens of millions in a PR campaign had the temerity to latch unto the platform you provided to re-launch his rusty column as an opportunistic way to scurry back to the corridors of power. You saw all those garbage and indeed paid for them. You did not ask the Jaded Jason where he was when Ohakim bundled the files of Pensioners that faithfully started and ended their meritorious Civil Service Career in Imo State back to Umuahia for payment simply because they were Abia indigenes. To further buttress the unusual interest shown by your government and paid agents to this expedient policy, Bishop Lucius Ugorji, a Naze Imo State born cleric together with another gang of Owerribased carry-go white garment preachers intensified their devious hype against an innocent sister State. This was the same Bishop Ugorji who together with the now late Mbaise born Archbishop Rojas Uwadi dined and wined with the defunct oppressive mamacratic regime that held Abia down for years. While Abia patriots fought for liberation, these Imo-born bishops struck deals and carted away choice Abia Investments. They enthusiastically gave impetus and moral cover to the despots. Today they have ironically turned into clannish activists while keeping silent over your brutish disengagement of the thousands Imo youths creatively employed by Ohakim. Your Excellency, you can't continue deceiving Ndigbo and the Nigerian Public. With the creation of Abia in 1991, the Imo State Government immediately laid off all Abia Indigenes in its civil service while Abia retained Imo Indigenes in Aba and elsewhere. Since then till now, there has been a progressive suffocation of the Abia workforce by indigenes of states that sent our own citizens packing. Enugu State fished out and laid off Abians (non-indegenes) that were left in their civil service starting from 1997 through 2002. Same goes for Anambra and Ebonyi where even Abia students are made to pay discriminatory school fees. This is the issue at stake and for which you have marshaled out your people for a war of attrition against Abia State. You now talk of threats to Igbo unity simply because our patriotic governor took a reciprocal decision that should have been taken long ago based on the clamour of well meaning Abia Citizens. By this diatribe, Your Excellency and your mercenaries have only succeeded in drawing global attention to the grave injustice and levity which Imo and other sister Igbo States have meted out to Abia Civil Servants and which our leaders and people have borne silently with equanimity. That Chief T.A Orji decided to address this anomaly and balance the lopsided equation is not a crime anywhere in the world. What is rather despicable is the hypocrisy, wanton wickedness and shameless audacity of those who now believe that what is good for the goose should not be good for the gander. The time tested credibility of Governor T.A Orji which you seek to destroy has rather skyrocketed among Abians who are the main reason for his sojourn in government house. For your information, Sir, there is a total consensus among Abia Stake holders that Ochendo should take all necessary albeit painful decisions to restore the years that the cankerworm has eaten while laying a solid foundation for Abia transformation. As he executes this overwhelming mandate, we are poised to give him all the needed encouragement and defend him from the misplaced darts of desperados, professional petition writers and renowned 419 kingpins who seek to make political capital out of every laudable policy. We, therefore, advise your government to re-direct its limited capacities to the actualization of your self-imposed rescue mission for whatever it is worth. As you may have noticed, the art of state governance is a lot more different from slogans, showmanship and Jerry meandering. You need core competence the sort that comes through good education, moral rectitude and professional exposure. These are not things that can be obtained otherwise! By the grace of God, Abia cannot be distracted. Having extricated ourselves from the callous cabal who were friends of the current Imo regime, we have made significant positive changes in the area of security, infrastructure and other key sectors. These series of propaganda and smear campaign coming from Owerri were foreseen by us when we dealt mortal blows to our oppressors and their acolytes. Ndigbo cannot be deceived. They know those with cloudy antecedents. Those who straddled into power as a result of some political accident also know themselves. They should look inwards and solve their problems rather than seeking for non-existing opportunities to make noise and hoodwink the unsuspecting public. Your Excellency, Chief Rochas Okorocha, like Ndigbo would say, Ome ihe jide kwa ogu. In the words of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah , "Don't complain about my room. You are only visiting but I live here". Ochu nwa okuko nwe ada, !!! Hon. The Minister of State for Education, Mr. Ezenwo Wike, has said that the Federal Government has awarded contracts for the Almajiri school project in 19 states. Wike told journalists in Yola yesterday that contractors would be mobilised to move to sites very soon. He said that President Goodluck Jonathan would lay the foundation stone to the project in Sokoto. The minister, who inspected some UBE projects in Adamawa including a female boarding school, re-iterated the Federal Government's commitment to girl-child education, particularly in the northern parts of the country where there had been challenges. He commended Adamawa state government for its commitment to the UBE programme implementation, saying that the Federal Government would ensure that contractors expedited action on all UBE joint projects in the state. Wike also lauded Adamawa government for setting up well equipped technical schools, which he said, was in line with Federal Government's transformation agenda to make Nigerians acquire skills that would make them self-reliant. The minister also paid an unscheduled visit to the Federal Government Girls College, Yola, where he expressed concern over the poor conditions of classrooms and other infrastructure in the school http://allafrica.com/stories/201110260853.html |
Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan Chase - Seems one of them may benefit from this fuel subsidy removal. Afterall, wont some of the money not be diverted into the so called SWF? |
In a bid to ensure that they grab the portfolio of the Federal Government's Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), Wall Street titans - Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan Chase - are already courting top government officials for the management of the Fund. The New York Times disclosed this Tuesday, saying that the Fund was expected to buffer the Nigerian economy from volatile commodity prices and impose fiscal Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had said that the Federal Government was considering the recruitment of the management team for the Fund through a transparent process. She had said the government, which was targeting the best qualified Nigerians within and outside the country, had commenced with the engagement of KPMG to drive the process. Okonjo-Iweala had revealed that advertisements calling for applications from interested Nigerians would soon be published in The Economist and Financial Times of London. In fact, Okonjo-Iweala had stated that KPMG was expected to conclude a shortlist of the candidates by mid- November. New York Times quoted the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, who helped to create the proposal, to have said: "The country is at a point of inflection, and what we do in the next few years will set the pace. It's a land of opportunities, which unfortunately has not been tapped well." According to the American-based newspaper, by saving and investing the petro dollars, Nigeria hoped to break the resource curse. "The nation, which derives 80 per cent of its revenue from oil, created the sovereign wealth fund to buffer its economy from volatile commodity prices and impose fiscal discipline. The government so far has set aside $1 billion for the fund, and it could funnel as much as $2.5 billion a year, if oil prices remain high," it added. On his part, a research associate at the University of Oxford, who studies sovereign wealth funds, Ashby H.B. Monk, noted: "One of our biggest problems in civil society is the time horizon that we're operating on - whether election cycles or quarterly reports. The idea of a sovereign fund is to give government bureaucrats an opportunity to make long-term policy knowing that the buffeting winds of capitalism won't blow them off course." Aganga added: "It's important that we have some savings for the future generations. It just makes sense for your economy. You're completely exposed otherwise." Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) and Governor of Rivers State, Mr. ChibuikeRotimi Amaechi, has said state governments are willing to partner the Federal Government in the implementation of Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) if they are given the latitude to access their funds and make individual contributions to the common purse. Amaechi said this Tuesday while speaking at a colloquium titled: "Jurisprudence, Democracy and Rule of Law" held at the state House of Assembly, Port Harcourt, to commemorate the Supreme Court judgment that ushered him into office in October 2007. Speaking against the backdrop of the suit instituted on Monday by the NGF against the Federal Government at the Supreme Court seeking to block the latter from the operating the SWF, he said: "The rule of law eliminates completely the rule of man. Governors agree that the Federal Government should save but the law has to be respected. What the Federal Government has done is merely kidnapping of our money." He explained that the SWF, "like all things in the country", must fall within the ambit of the law. "Section 80 of the constitution was talking about Consolidated Revenue, and it also says that the executive authority of a region shall extend to the execution and maintenance of the constitution of the region and to all matters with respect to which the legislature of the region has for the time being power to make laws but shall be so exercised as not to impede or prejudice the exercise of the executive authority of the federation or to endanger the continuance of Federal Government in Nigeria," he said. He said the Federal Government was being economical with the truth in its bid to liberalise the downstream sector, arguing that it had spent N1.264 trillion, which is more than the N264 billion that was appropriated to it by the lawmakers for this year's budget. He said this is the question the lawmakers should be asking the executive arm of government at the national level, pointing out that beyond the argument of oil, subsidy is also the argument about corruption which takes place at the top and trickles down to permeate the entire society. In his presentation, constitutional lawyer, Prof. Itse Sagay, applauded the Supreme Court judgment that ushered in Amaechi as signalling the supremacy of the rule of law as unassailable. He enumerated the guiding principles of the judgment as ushering in of a new operational philosophy of law, nourishing of the democratic culture and making courts to shy away from the constraints of technicality. Similarly, Prof. Adele Jinadu, who also spoke at the occasion, observed that some had argued that the Supreme Court judgment on Amaechi versus INEC and two others usurped the rights of the voters, adding that "we must resort to government bylaws instead of government of rule of men." http://allafrica.com/stories/201110261085.html |

Jos – A Kasuwar-Nama Upper Area Court in Jos on Wednesday denied bail to a 40-year old housewife, Mary Chibuzo, who is standing trial for allegedly attacking her neighbour, Mrs Juliet Ohiosuma. The accused was said to have attacked the neighbour after suspecting that she was having an affair with her husband. The trial Judge, Malam Mustapha Hassan, on Wednesday rejected the suspect’s bail application “based on her past records in the same court”. The court also relied on the evidence and facts presented by the prosecution about the accused to deny her bail. “Since the accused has formed the habit of molesting her neighbours and had appeared before this court for similar offences, the court has no option than to remand her in prison custody. “The court has warned the accused several times to stop attacking her female neighbours based on mere suspicion that her husband is chasing them, but these warnings appear unheeded.” The judge said the court had the powers to remand the accused in prison custody pending the time she was ready to live peacefully with her neighbours “Anytime the accused shows signs of being remorseful, the court will grant her bail plea.” Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, had objected to the bail application on the grounds that the accused had appeared before the same court for the same offence before. “My lord, the accused, because of her size, has been terrorising her female neighbours, both married and single, on mere suspicion that husband is chasing them.” Gokwat said that on several occasions, the accused had failed to provide any evidence that the women were having anything to do with her husband. The counsel to the accused, Mr Uche Ike, had applied for bail on the grounds that the accused was married and had four children. Ike said that the defence was ready to bring competent sureties to the court, if the accused was granted bail. The case was adjourned to Dec. 16 for further hearing. Tinubu Refuses To Enter Dock . . . . Try Me In Lagos State, He Insists! ABUJA -The embattled former Governor of Lagos state and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wednesday, declined to either mount the dock or enter his plea to the 3-count criminal charge that was preferred against him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja. The ex-governor who was charged to court by the federal government on allegation that he violated section 7 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, Cap C15 LFN, 2004, as amended, by operating 10 foreign accounts whilst he was in office between 1999 and 2007, Wednesday, insisted that “the CCT sitting in Abuja does not have the territorial jurisdiction”, to try him over the alleged offence. https://netpagesonline.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/rss-poster/cache/d400b_Tinubu-docked.jpg http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/10/tinubu-refuses-to-enter-dock/ |
Seun:. . . . .Relax (topic amended) Dictator or not these bas.tards have sent out a message that if you dont play ball with them they'll kill you. It would seem the people are on the verge of turning against GEJ - and the yanks may use that as another opportunity to flex their muscles in a land that is not their own. The execution of Gaddafi got a lot of air time for a reason - its a form of 'psychological operation' on the masses and on heads of state. The 'West' / Yanks dont do trials anymore - they'll just kill you and thats that. Civil urest is now a certainty to happen in Nigeria - the question is, will GEJ be executed when the 'shi.t' hits the fan? |

Barack Obama has described Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's death as a strong message to dictators around the world. Speaking on NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, the US President said the former Libyan leader had missed his chance to bring democracy to his country. "This is somebody who, for 40 years, has terrorised his country and supported terrorism," he said. "He had an opportunity during the Arab Spring to finally let loose of his grip on power and to peacefully transition into democracy. "We gave him ample opportunity, and he wouldn't do it," he added. There has been an international call for an investigation into Col Gaddafi's death after he appeared to be heavily beaten by his captors and then shot in the head. Graphic footage of him before and after he died has been viewed around the world. "Obviously, you never like to see anybody come to the kind of end that he did, but I think it obviously sends a strong message around the world to dictators that , people long to be free," Mr Obama added. The President is in the middle of a visit to western states including Nevada, California and Colorado, where he has mixed White House business with events for his 2012 re-election campaign. http://news.sky.com/home/world-news/article/16096199 |

Quality not quantity . . . The quality of our education needs to be improved radically. If you ask me - Between 3 - 5 children should receive nursery education - even if only for a few hours a day everyday. Nursery education should be provided free by the govt and it should be made compulsary. By the tim they reach primarry school kids should know how to read and write. Primary school education should also be compulsary and paid for by the govt. The secondary education can be cut to 5 years and first degree's cut to 3 years. To summarise - 2-6-5-3 with nursary and primary education a must for ALL Nigerians irrespective of background. |
. . . . there is a constant mix up between Niger and Nigeria. For instance, they may say he's heading towards or crossed the Nigerian border - which could mean either Niger or Nigeria. If he knows what happened to 'Charles Taylor' he wouldn't set foot in Nigeria. He would be safer in 'Somalia'. |

Indications have emerged that the Federal Government has dropped the 9-3- 4 system of education. This educational system took stakeholders over three years to plan and work out its implementation strategy. The system, which purportedly kicked off in 2009, had the components of basic, technical and vocational inputs, which pupils were expected to complete in the first nine years before proceeding on a career path in the next three years of secondary education. Education Minister, Prof. Uqayyatu Rufa'i, last Tuesday, proposed to the National Assembly (NASS), the need to revert to the old system of 6-3-3-4, but with a modification that would include Early Childhood Education (ECE). The new system, according to her, was sequel to the recommendations of the Presidential Task Team on Education, which President Goodluck Jonathan has already approved. Rufa'i said the new system would now be known as 1-6- 3-3-4, signifying that the first one year of education would be for a child of five years. The six-year component would be for primary education, while the other three, three and four years would be for junior and senior secondary and tertiary, respectively. 'A more current National Policy on Education that captures all the sectorial policies, vis-a-vis, gender, ECE, ICT, HIV and AIDS and the new policies arising from the fallout of the Presidential Task Team on Education recommendations, are some of the tasks ahead,' the minister said. She said the best way to manage the Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs), must be sought out without losing the vision of the forefathers who established them. She said all these issues, and many others, need proper articulation for implementation, saying that the activities of the National Teachers' Institute (NTI) Kaduna would be refocused for practicing teachers to maximise their re-training benefits. A 30-man committee, with renowned educationist, Pai Ubanya as technical adviser and the minister as chairperson, to ensure the implementation of the new system of education, was on Tuesday set up in Abuja. The committee is expected to among other things, update the National Policy on Education (NPE) and amend all outdated laws of the Ministry of Education. It would also re-structure the functions of the ministry, its departments, with specific attention to ensuring that only professionals were heads of departments and parastatals. Other areas which the committee is expected to work include expansion of the Universal Basic Education Commission's mandate to cover secondary education, amend the UBEC Act to incorporate all levels of pre tertiary education. Sequel to this, the committee would also address the problems of Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs), relocate them under the management of UBEC, but this would only take place after the amendment of the UBEC Act. Rufa'i said the main function of this committee is to propose modalities for the smooth actualisation of the PTTE recommendations, saying that its membership of the committee was based on the need to have tested and trusted individuals who could deliver http://allafrica.com/stories/201110250939.html |
Overland Airways flight from Lagos to Asaba International Airport was involved in a near crash Monday due to poor weather conditions. The aircraft was forced to land twice at the Benin City airport before making a third, successful attempt in Asaba airport. A passenger, who preferred not to be named, was quoted as saying that each time the aircraft landed in Benin, they prevented the passengers from disembarking, claiming that the airport authorities in Benin would charge the airline landing fees which they don't have. After calming down the passengers for a while, the pilot hurriedly took off from Benin City to make another landing attempt in Asaba. The aircraft which left Lagos at 1:00 pm for the hour-long trip finally landed at its Asaba destination at 4:04 p.m. The rough landing took place after the pilot had already informed the fearful passengers that the aircraft would be returning to Lagos. When The Moment contacted the Director General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren for confirmation, he said that there was no accident and that there was nothing like that. This is the second time in less than two days this airline is experiencing such incidence. At the weekend, there were reports that the same aircraft also escaped another plane crash at the same Asaba International airport and the plane was forced to go and land at the Benin Airport following communication equipment failure at the troubled airport. The pilot of the fully loaded commercial aircraft with registration number 5N-BND, which had come in from Lagos, was said to have lost contact with the Asaba airport tower and as a resultcould not be guided for landing. According to some of the passengers who spoke on condition of anonymity the aircraft hovered around the airport for about three hours, without successfully contacting the control tower. His efforts to land being unsuccessful, the pilot took the plane to the Benin Airport where he landed. It was also gathered that after the landing, the plane remained at the Benin Airport for another two hours before it took off again, but the passengers, in fear of their lives, refused to board it. Some of the distressed passengers have attributed the poor situation to the state of the uncompleted airport calling on Nigeria's aviation authorities to look into the situation at the Asaba Airport in order to avert the death of passengers attempting to use the airport. It would be recalled that in July this year, the Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan drafted the new Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Adaeze Oduah to Asaba where the minister expressed satisfaction with the high standard of facilities at the Asaba Airport, declaring that the airport was fit for use http://allafrica.com/stories/201110250923.html |

Nigeria Jails Nine Oil Thieves For 90 Years Each ABUJA Oct 25 (Reuters) - Seven Nigerians and two Ghanaians have each been sentenced to 90 years in prison for oil theft and illegal refining, an organised underground industry that costs Africa's largest oil exporter hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Nigeria's oil production capacity of more than 2 million barrels per day is curbed by thieves, who tap pipelines that pass through the thousands of kilometres of winding creeks and waterways in the Niger Delta region. The crude is often processed in makeshift refineries in the creeks before being sold as oil products. Bunkering - the theft of industrial quantities of oil - is a big business in Nigeria that funds criminal gangs and fuels corruption. A judge in Delta state sentenced each of the suspects to 10 years in prison on each of nine charges against them. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said on Tuesday it had "arraigned the accused for conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum products", on June 29, 2010. "Investigations also showed that the Ghanaians came into the country illegally and, therefore, had no permission to sail in the Nigerian waters with a vessel that had no clearance, waybill or any document empowering it to transport petroleum products," the commission's statement added. Nigeria's military said on Monday it had detained a small oil tanker and arrested 46 people trying to ship illegally refined oil products.
