Travel / Re: Construction Linking Bonny Island By Road (Photos) by superde: 8:21pm On Jul 13, 2021
Hello everyone,

With due respect to all brillant young minds on this forum who one hope to see the Nigeria of their dreams. I’m forced to write in here just to correct the mis-information going around in here about this project.

I am one of the early subscribers to Nairalsnd back in 2004 and I used to own a career thread in here,

I write this as a retired NLNG employee who has a first hand knowledge about this project. I lived and worked on Bonny Island for so many years and looked forward to seeing Bonny- Bido road done especially during the heights of Niger Delta militancy when people were being killed on the waters and we only rely on Choppers and Navy security guided boats to travel out of the Island.

-Pls note that the conception of this project predates Buhari, Jonathan and even Obasanjo Admins. This project has always being part of the infrastructures planned for the Bonny Isand and sorrounding riverine communitities due to them as major contributors to the nations economy. I can tell you that this project was conceived more than 20 years before it finally commenced in 2017.

- We must give great kudos to the Buhari administration ( especially the tenacity and focus of Fashola and VP Obasanjo) who made sure that this project came to life despite all the odds that stood against it for decades. Jonathan had a golden opportunity to get this project started but he never did despite the fact NLNG was willing to pay 50% ( counter part funding) of total cost of the project as a motivation to get the Federal Government to this project going. It took Buhari’s commitment to take advantage of this 50% counter part funding to sanctioned his project. Government will in return give tax credits to company to cover for their contributions to the project. This has been done with the likes of for similar road constructions. Kudos to Fashola and former Finance Minister ( forgotten her now, the one with NYSC issue) for this initiatives.

- This road project was one of the infrastructural conditions to get FID for NLNG’s Train 7 as the company anticipates that water transport won’t be enough to cater for the influx of activities during and post T7 operations. Today T7 is not only FIDed but being constructed. Thanks to Buhari

- We all might not like Buhari for his nepotism and ethnicity tendencies but the truth is Buhari meant well for Nigeria but definitely there are sabotages here and there

- One thing that really got me surprised during the events leading to the turning of the soil ceremony for this project in 2017 was the attitude of Governor Wike to the fact that it was a Buhari Govt that got this project going. Wike brought in Politics into the whole thing and refused to attend the launch/turning of the soil ceremony. He insisted that he can’t attend an APC led insfractural project lunch. He instead decided to travel out of the country ( for his Barcelona academy project in Spain) just to have an excuse of not being in the country to avoid attending the ceremony for such a big and landmark project. He instead sent his deputy to attend the ceremony when the VP came to lunch the commencement of this project.

- Pls don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of Wike as I see him as one of performing Governors as per Infrastructural development but quite disappointed with attitude to this project. He chose to be selfish and partisan when he can easily choose to be happy with the people of Bonny that this long deserved road project has finally come to them and Rivers State in general.

This is not meant to support or castigate any Party as they all have their strengths and weaknesses but bottom line just to pass the right information about this project. Pls forgive any typos.

Travel / Re: Civil Servants Need Advice On Whether To Migrate To Canada by superde: 3:10pm On Mar 25, 2019
There is nothing like unskilled migration to Canada at least from Nigeria.

Be careful so that you and your husband will not be defrauded.

All applications for skilled migration to Canada is through Express Entry. There are loads of fake Agents out there.

Hi House,

For those paying by credit card and needs to fill the part two of the payment form to please be careful if you filling directly on the computer. I have noticed that while filling the payment form online using the adobe pro, your card details can be changed if it starts with 0. Fortunately, the available cards in nigeria Master card and Visa card starts with 5 or 4.

But you need to be careful if filling your Security (the 3 digit security no on the back of the card) number which can start with 0.

for example, if the expiry date is 08-2015, the form will change it to 8-2015 as the form does not ignore the "0". Did anybody experience this. I had to leave the form as 8-2015 (which is August-2015) as i do not want to hand fill the form.

If your Security starts with "0" you may not have any option rather to hand fill as the form will ignore the "0" and leave it as 2 digit (which will make the Security incorrect) instead of the appropriate 3 digit.

As anybody noticed this as well?
Autos / Re: Total Cost Of Clearing A Vehicle In Nigeria by superde: 9:23am On May 07, 2013
Oga Femi,\
Quick one please... How long does it take (on the average) to clear a single car in a container (from the US) through Grimaldi in Lagos.

A friend of mine has a car ( in a 20ft container) on the Grande Guinea vessel that JUST arrived Lagos on May 5th. His agent is telling him that he will get car cleared by saturday this week. Just wondering, Is that possible or the guy is just trying to raise hope? Because my last experience of clearing cars in a container in Lagos took about two months back in 2009 (though im sure that container was not on Grimaldi). Has clearing time really improved at the nigerian Ports? Im planning to ship a car in a container very and i need all the info. Many Thanks.

Properties / Buiders/engineers In D House: Advise On An Ongoing Building Project Pls Help ! by superde: 12:17pm On Feb 01, 2011
To the Builders and Enigineers in the house,

I have an ongoing Building project at its finishing stages. Right now, i'm about to commence the plastering, plumbering/ electrical conduit works.

Just to give you an idea of the size of the project, the house (project) is about the standard size of a 2 no 2b/r flat (all room ensuite, standard sitting room, kitchen and store) within a Bungalow. The project is located just around Shappatti town in Ibeju Lekki.

My Buider is charging me the following for these stages;

Plastering:
Cement: 100 Bags (rate of 1800 naira per bag)=180,000
Plastering sand (4 loads) @ d rate of 25,000 per load=100,000
Plastering labour: 400,000
Supervision=100,000
Total: 780,000

Plumbing conduit works (only)
Provisional sum for materials ( sewage, water distribution not including fittings)=200,000
Plumbing labour for above and plumbing conduit only= 80,000
Supervision:50,000
Total:330,000

To all the Experinced Builders in the house ( aassog, yemtech, thiry etc) what do you think of these estimates? do you think this is a fair one or outrageous. If outrageous, would you rather please suggest fair estimates to me only for negotitation purposes. I need your guidance and suggestions very urgently as i need to make some decisions
Thanks you for timely responses

Properties / Advice On Oduline Roofing Sheet by superde: 5:13pm On Aug 10, 2010
To all experienced Builders in the House,

I presently running a building project ( a standard 4 bed room bungalow with 2 sitting room, a study room and lundary) and the building is at its roofing stage. I'm currently at a crossed road on the type of roofing sheet to be used regarding roofing sheet to be used considering the cost and heat retention.

I know the commonest roofing sheets used by most people this days is the aluminimu but my experince in the current house i stay in has kind of discouraged me from the use of the aluminium given the amount of heat it absorbs during the day and later radiates at nights during the real hot season. Similarly, i do not have money for the cost of the Gerrald aluminium which does not abosorb heat.
Also, the Aebestos slates which does not absorb heat as aluminium (even though it looks cheap compared to aluminium) is out of it for me because of the long term health implications of the aebestoes.

Recently, somebody recommended Oduline roofing sheet to me that the material could actually meet my requirements of costs and heat retention. I have tried to look around most ongoing building projects and i realised that is not that common. I have only seen it in one or two house that have been completed in the past 3 or 2 years ago.

My question to experienced buiders in house who have used Oduline roofing material to advise me on the pros and cons of the material. Is it really cheaper compared to aluminium? Is it really durable? Other advices based on your experience of handling a roofing project will do.

Also just checking, is it not too much to spend about 1.2 Million naira on just wood works for roofing ( excluding roofing sheets materials) for a house described in paragrahp 1 of my mail above? This quote was based on a 10 feet massing to allowing for enough spacing between ceiling boards and the roofing sheets.

Please on all these.

Thanks for your contribution.
