I will like to know the view of the people who are in marketing, on how to start being a top norch marketing executive.
What are the basic steps on how to get started.
Let us tern the forum to a learning forum.

Although i am not a Marketer, i can only share my experience as a Sales Professional/Business Consultant. Being a top notch sales executive requires the understanding of three basic functions:

[li] Market knowledge (Segment of the market you want to prospect or sell to) [/li]
[li] Product Knowledge (the product or service you intend to sell) [/li]
[li] Presentation skill (Your selling; questioning, prospecting, networking & relationship management skill or how to link 1 & 2 above- bringing the product to the market as a solution that will solve the problem in the market) [/li]

After understanding these, you can now engage in consultative selling; panadol can only be sold to someone with headache and not stomach ache, so you will need to look for headaches to proffer your panadol solutions to, better still you'll need to identify people with headaches, what is the cause of the headaches etc. then talk to the market as someone who has the solution for their headaches.

Am a sales manager, I work with an international Logistics/supply chain management company, part of the largest Shipping company in the world from Denmark. I like my job but its a close loop reward system, meaning, your salary is stable irrespective of your sales wins.

The job is quite tough and challenging cos you are competing with local logistics company. Our targets are large manufacturing/trading companies who have high volume of import/export.

My background is electrical engineering but i have a Post graduate in Shipping.

That must be Maersk Line. I worked there 2005-2007 as a Sales Team Lead, the experience and foreign training made it a memorable one.

In my opinion God answers all prayers: But the answers might not come until:
