I met a great guy on a plane and we talked the whole six hour flight. We hit it off, but he never asked me about my family, so I didn’t tell him I have kids (I’m a single mom!). We exchanged numbers, and have now started dating. Things feel so good between us — only I can’t seem to bring up my two kids. It’s like I’m afraid he won’t stick around, even though he’s given no indication that he’ll bail on me. Should I just tell him already? Is it too soon?” Read More Gists From: http:///otoebc |

some residents of Iju-Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos, where a Dana airline crashed into buildings on Sunday, have appealed to the authorities to bury the victims far from the area. Source: http:///prlxiu Their apprehension was based on their belief in the existence of ghosts, Idayatu Ali, a 24-year-old unemployed school leaver, said living around the scene of the crash, was superstitious and would not want the victims buried at the scene of the accident, “for fear of ghosts”. According to her, human beings are no goats and when they die prematurely, especially, violently, their ghosts will haunt the scene for a while. “This is no superstition; I have witnessed where a young man died in an accident and his ghost continued to cry at the scene for days until a sacrifice was performed. “Please, tell them not to bury the victims here or else some of us will have to abandon our houses,” she pleaded. However, Jude Agwu, a commercial motorcyclist, said he and some colleagues could easily offer sacrifices to Ogun (the Yoruba god iron) in a bid to get rid of any ghost threat. Mr Iyiola Akande, the South-West Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said no decision had been taken on where to bury the victims. He, however, believed that identifiable bodies should be released to their relations for burial, while badly burnt ones would be given mass burial, probably far from the scene. Source: http:///prlxiu “This is a densely populated area and erecting a memorial here may not be in the interest of the psyche of the residents. “This has nothing to do with the myth about ghosts,” Akande said at the scene of the crash. He also explained that a census of those living in the affected buildings—now demolished—would be taken soon to ascertain the number of those who died on the ground. Akande said this would also form part of the statistics for the full rehabilitation of the survivors and compensations to the families of those who lost their lives in the mishap. Nigerian rapper william orioha popularly known as 2shotz has been accused of collecting money (100,000 Naira) from Lead city university students for a fashion event without showing up for the event . In an Email message sent , the organizers explained how it happened .Read below “This incident happened on the 21st of May 2012. An undisclosed name contacted 2shotz via twitter to be a part of a fashion show called “FashionMIX” to be held on the 24th of May 2012. After the brief conversation, 2shotz asked the organizers to pay the sum of 100,000 on the 22nd May 2012 before 10am to seal the deal. The team complied; they paid the money in full (100,000) to 2shotz Zenith bank account before 10am that morning. On the 23rd was the agreed date to leave lagos for Ibadan where the event was being held, 2shotz asked the organizers come pick him up at his house: 13 sobo siffre street, arowojobe estate, mende, Maryland, near suya spot: By 3pm the organizers of the event arrived at 2shotz house to pick him up, he then said he’s coming with two extra persons, he’s PA and an artiste with the name ruffcoin. Source: http:///vybwqh We provided the car “rover salon car” (4 doors) after a while 2shotz entered the car and they drove out, in less than 10mins he said the car doesn’t have an air conditioner, that we should get another car. Without fail, we got a SIENA SPACE BUS, 2shotz and his team refused to join the car and used the team “this industry na parkaging, we gats enter car with ac” they now said for them to show up, we must pay the sum of 50,000 extra, They called this charge: (The Driving Inconvenience Charge). After a long deliberation and argument, 2shotz then said ok, the organizers should give him 30,000 instead of the 50,000. The time was already past 6pm, while the other event crew in a bus had left since 3pm, so we had no choice than to leave lagos without 2shotz, which made the organizer spent an extra 10,000 which wasn’t budgeted for. The following day the organizer went back to lagos to pick 2shotz (24th May 2012) which was the event day, 2shotz and his team arrived by 12pm, leaving the organizer another un-budgeted expense of 16,000. Immediately on his arrival, he was escorted to his hotel suit (2 rooms charlet), shortly 2shotz requested for 6 girls and drinks, in less than one hour all he asked for was provided for him and his team. Event was scheduled for 6pm, 2shotz didn’t show up, as at about 10pm one of the organizer went ahead to check up on him, 2shotz was drunk and asleep with his team and girls. The following morning he woke up and requested 8,000 for his cab fare back to lagos. The job 2shotz was paid for wasn’t achieved or was in a bit supported by him.The students of lead city university request a re-fund and sound this as a warning to Nigerian Artiste not to engage in fraud”. The Captured Evidence below shows the conversations between 2shotz and the event organizers on twitter. 2shotz is yet to tell his own side of the story but he tweeted on the event day that he was in ibadan Source: http:///vybwqh

1. Stop posting four different photos from four different stages in your life. This leaves a man wondering, “Who is this person?” I’ve looked through thousands of online profiles, and the majority of women will put up pictures from different stages of their life but not put up current pictures. All photos that you post on an online dating profile MUST BE CURRENT!!! He’s going to find out what you look like when you meet, and there is no reason to lie about your looks. 2. Don’t list your dislikes about Internet dating in bold, capital letters at the beginning of your profile. We’ve all had negative experiences online. Emphasize your positive points, not your negative ones. 3. List your exact body type. It seems like on the Internet EVERYBODY is “athletic and toned,” “petite” or “fit and trim.” “He will find out what you look like!” He will find out what you look like! You might as well tell the truth in your profile, so you’ll have a qualified lead and not waste somebody’s time. 4. List your real age. In the world of Internet dating, it seems like there’s an abundance of 29- and 39-year-old women. “29″ usually means somewhere in your 30′s. And a woman who is “39″ is usually in her 40′s. Why start a potential relationship on a lie? Men are guilty of the same thing, and I advise them the same way. Source: http:///yilpkb 5. I’m really glad you had a great time on your vacation, but you don’t need to post 10 photos of your trip to Italy WITHOUT you in them. This is a dating site, not a trip advisor. Also, stop posting pictures of you skydiving, winter skiing, water-skiing, or doing anything else where we can’t see what you look like in the picture. 6. Keep your profile short and to the point. Make your paragraphs very short. I’ve seen too many women’s profiles that look like romance novels. Take a look at Yahoo! Sports and read an article in the sports section. “All paragraphs are short so men can digest that information in short bursts.” All paragraphs are short so men can digest that information in short bursts. 7. Don’t be so self-absorbed. I’ve seen many women’s profiles that say, “I want a man to be this,” “I want a man to do that,” “I want a man to cherish me,” “I want a man to adore me”… You list all your “I wants” without listing what YOU will bring to the relationship. So you end up looking like you’re a taker and not a giver. No man wants to be with a taker; he wants to be with someone who’s equally willing to give and to receive. 8. Don’t list your financial desires like you’re posting a want ad. I’ve seen too many women write, “I’m looking for a man who will spoil me, buy me great things, and take me on great trips.” You come across as a gold digger. Instead say, “I like the finer things in life to share with somebody,” so you don’t come across so harsh. 9. No baby talk! Even if the number one priority in your life is to be a mother, nothing scares a man off more than if you write in your profile about how badly you want kids. He may feel the same way, but he is going to think, “This woman will marry anybody to have kids.” Write something a little more toned down like, “Families are important to me, and I can’t wait to meet my special man so I can start a family.” This shows you’re selective and not just looking for someone with whom to make a kid. 10. Stop listing all your rules. Don’t write things like “A perfect first date MUST be dinner” or “The man I date HAS to wear suits.” Women tend to list rules in their profiles. Be open to a different kind of first date, or the kind of guy who wears jeans to work. 11. Stop sending winks. When is the last time you went to the supermarket, saw a cute guy and winked at him? Winks went out of style when “Happy Days” went off the air. You don’t like it when men send you a wink. You think it makes him seem lazy and like he didn’t read your profile. We think the same thing! So stop winking and start typing. 12. If you write to a man and he doesn’t write you back, don’t write a nasty follow-up email and ask him why he didn’t write you back. If a man doesn’t respond to you, it’s the same thing as when you don’t write a man back. It means that he is not interested. Don’t get angry, just find another person. 13. We know you’re looking at us, because we see that you’ve viewed our profile every day. Say “hello!” We’re not going to bite. Lob that email in. “Take a chance and send an email to the guy to whom you’re most attracted.” Take a chance and send an email to the guy to whom you’re most attracted. You never know what might happen! 14. If a guy who you’re interested in writes to you, stop playing games and write him back right away. Don’t make him wait four days. He may find someone else in the time you wait to write him back. Keep the momentum going! Source: http:///yilpkb |
I am 26 years old. I simply got into s*x out of ignorance like millions of young people today. My addiction placed me as the highest abortionist in the world at age of 26 and now, I have a sad story to tell. Until I found myself in a total mess, I never really had any Idea what premarital s*x was all about. I never knew it was so useless and killing. Before I got into it, I use to think it was some fun and I dreamt of it more often than not. I wished with all my heart to have a boyfriend whom we would explore it together, little did I know that I was being nasty to myself. Because of things I see on TV and magazine, I thought having s*x was so much fun, I fantasized about it each time I felt lonely. Source: http:///txvftv I was just a little girl but I had big wishes and huge fantasies. Only if I had known that everything I see in movies and soap operas were just acting and make belief; only if I had known that there is nothing in s*x after all, the only thing in it is self destruction; I think my life wouldn’t be this miserable. It’s a pity i really had to learn the hard way and I really wish I had never been born, I wish I had not come out into this deceitful world where nobody cares about young people, all the so called adults do is how they would play on the intelligence of young people in a bid to exploit and use them to satisfy their insatiable s*xual passion. I really feel bad about this wicked world. My plight started when I was sixteen, then I was still a virgin and in secondary school, I was ignorant of many things but because I see it every day on the TV and internet. More so, a couple of so called Anti AIDS people visited us in school a couple of times for lectures, but all they did was introduce s*x to us even more because they really had nothing but condoms to show. Fine, they told us about AIDS, but at the same time, they also told us about condoms, they never really said anything real about s*x, they said we could contact AIDS not through s*x, but unprotected sex, which means there was nothing wrong with s*x as long as you could use condoms, but all of that I now know very well are lies, and I wonder why men and women would enjoy telling teenagers deadly lies like that. There exist a drastic change in every aspect and facet one applies to what is obtainable in Kano today compared to the previous year. Indigenes cry for the lost glory, the hubbub of business, the general buzz, the clamor, the visitors, the free movement, the security, every other thing that had made Kano what it was- the nerve centre of commerce and industry. Not anymore. Hopefully, for a temporary period of time. The vibrancy of Kano as a city state gave rise to the film industry due to the fact that anything sells in Kano, provided one knows how to peddle it. Notably, the contribution of the film industry towards providing gainful employment, and in essence, a contribution to the national grid cannot be overemphasized. Source: http:///popwrn Therefore, Kano, a flexible commercial state welcomed and embraced the growth of the film industry, producing home videos that are widely circulated within Nigeria and beyond, carving a niche for the youth to stand on their feet in this wondrous world of show business and theatre arts. To many, the film industry is a means to put meals on the table, therefore a means of livelihood. But then, the security challenges faced by Kano of recent seems to take its toll on this new establishment so much so that an atmosphere of doom seems to hover over it; from marketers to producers, directors and technicians, artiste and all others whose very existence depends to a large extent on this industry, all are not happy with the current security challenges, and are particularly worried on its effect on the film industry. They were loud in the expression of their grievances. Alhaji Musa Na Saleh who is the current President of Film Marketers Association related the challenges faced by the Film industry today to the deteriorating security apparatus in the state. He also described the current fog in the market to the same challenges faced by the state, security wise. “The current security situation in the state has so affected the marketability, and to a large extent the production of films in Kano. This is largely hinged on the fact that this market depends on visitors to sell its goods, and now that movements are restricted and hindered, the market isn’t bursting with activities anymore. Successful films used to reign in the market for months, making sales that may extend up to three months (with the film still in demand). This is not the case now. Presently, a film may go stale from the first week, which signifies a drastic failure in our business, and all due to lack of visitors who buy the films in bulk. We used to pride ourselves with the copies of films we could produce. We could produce 50,000 copies of a film, if it were really good. But now, that would be suicidal. Source: http:///popwrn The most one could produce is 5,000 and selling that could pose a problem. Ultimately, this leads to running the business on loss”, he said. Na saleh added that “coupled with this, the fact remains that some artistes are still expensive, due to an unprecedented popularity, which he implied raised the cost of production. Another person whose complaint is central to the cost of production is Hamisu Lamido Iyantama, a veteran Producer and an Actor, who incidentally had been a onetime gubernatorial aspirant. He expressed the importance of the film industry to the Kano State and Federal Governments as a source of revenue generation. However, he lamented the cost of production, which, he said, have been on the increase for a while. On the reasons why film budgets have risen, Iyantama has this to say: “Film budgets have hiked because the people who now populate the film industry have began to understand the importance of utilizing skilled labour and excellent equipment, and how these contribute to the overall success of a film”. “The greatest challenge the film industry is facing today is not so much related to the security challenges in Kano. We have one other problem that surpasses by far that of security. That problem is piracy. We operate on large budgets now, and it is our hope to make some profit from our efforts. But pirated copies of our production does not help the business in any way. Despite concerted effort by Kano State Government to contain this menace, piracy has persisted and we are at a loss on how to tackle it. Iyantama cited an example with his yet to be released movie, Kurkuku which he said, he produced at an estimated cost of N4.8 million, and what his expectations are for the film. “But all these expectation could come to nothing due to piracy”. So you see, this is the biggest challenge in the Hausa film industry today. Still, whether the film made profit in the market or not, I believe it is a success. Because during its production, I have been able to provide jobs to almost 300 people. This is the most fulfilling aspect of a film career”, he concluded. Hamisu Iyantama is not the only person who believed piracy poses more danger to the film industry than the current security challenges. Alhaji Tukur, the current Public Relations Officer (though of an Interim Management Government) of the Marketers association, expressed similar fears, even though he is of the opinion that the current security problem in the state has aggravated the matter. “Marketers are really concerned about the current trend in piracy which is an infringement on copyrights. To curb the menace, a routine inspection is carried out by a joint effort of marketers and film makers, where in most cases, pirated films are seized. Towards curtailing this shoddy business, we contacted the national copy right commission and they gave us assurance on their support. But the security situation does not make it easy to travel. As a result, we have to suspend that effort, until such a time when things have improved. Then we will continue to pursue the issue”. Ahmad Alkanawy, a veteran producer, Director and Script Writer, expressed dismay at the turn out of events, particularly related to the industry. However, he sees the problems bedeviling the film industry today from a different perspective. For unlike the marketers who believe the current security challenges are not visitors-friendly and consequently contributed to low sales, Alkanawy believes that may not necessarily be a problem. To him, the biggest problem the film industry faces today is power outage. “The north is challenged with a power outage that is inexplicable. When we apply this to the film making parlance, it translates into high cost of production because we need light in every stage of film production. And a more dangerous trend that cripples our effort is that viewers do not get the opportunity to watch our films, unless the privileged few who can afford a power generating set. Well, so far, the security challenges in Kano have impacted negatively on the film profession and a lot other businesses which prior to this situation, had been at least booming if not doing well Source: http:///popwrn |

Again let me emphasis: Rashidi was not sick at the time he was abducted. Rashidi was never mad. He could have had periods of some depression but those were in the distant past. This is one of the most difficult articles I have ever written. I now believe that the universe sought me out some months ago for an assignment, to bear witness and to testify in the unfolding events surrounding the life and death of Rashidi Yekini! But why me? Within the football circle I believe I am one of a very few persons that Rashidi Yekini was comfortable with. Secondly, in the past three months I have had the closest interaction with the man up till the time I received the shocking information that he had died. I could not relate the news with the circumstances of his life during this period. Some things simply did not fit the picture being painted. And someone needed to testify, clarify and debunk the ugly and false stories being peddled around to justify Rashidi’s death. SOURCE: http:///eklkmd Since I received a call from him three months ago, I have learnt a great deal more about him, the things that happened to him, why he lived his life the way he did, that he was not physically or mentally unstable, that he ran into some misfortune and that he needed support and help to get back on his feet. I have known Rashidi since our days together in the Shooting Stars FC team in Ibadan, when as twin strikers in the 1984 African Club championship we had terrorised defenders all over Africa, freely banging in goals on our way to that year’s finals where we lost! That was to be my last year with Shooting Stars and indeed with football. It was his first year! Beyond that we had kept a good relationship from a distance. Through the years I had tried to understand his choices of the kind of life he lived without criticising or even counselling him. His decision to join Abiola Babes FC of Abeokuta, his choice of going to play in Cote D’Ivoire, moving to Europe, making the Chairman of Africa Sports FC of Abidjan, an Ivorien, his agent and manager throughout his career, all were totally of his own independent making. This clearly defined his character, that in spite of his obvious limitation in terms of academic capacity from the onset, he left no one in doubt that he was his own man and would choose his own path. He was very fiercely independent minded, never getting involved in the agitations, the politics, the power-play and the intrigues between officials and players, and even amongst the players themselves. All he cared about was to get on the field where he was extremely competitive and play football. He loved scoring goals and hardly ever exuberantly celebrated his goals. Thats why his first goal in the World Cup of 1994, against Bulgaria, and the manner he celebrated it remained the most memorable picture of that years’ championship. As a player Rashidi was as reclusive as could possibly be. In camp players, that players had to share rooms in pairs, was the reason he lived with anyone. He was that kind of person. He would have preferred to be alone and enjoyed the solitude of his chosen way of life. Football gave him the only outlet to the rest of the world. Otherwise, you would find him sleeping, or saying his prayers, or playing pranks and cracking jokes with the players that visited his room. Beyond football, Rashidi did not want anyone coming too close to him, to know too much and to meddle in his business. He kept his activities very close to his chest. So, even as we interacted as often as certain events brought us together I noticed his cautiousness. He was a very sensitive person. he tried never to hurt anyone, preferring to cut off any relationships that threatened his regimented sequestered lifestyle. One thing I was very sure of about him was that he never asked anything from anyone, and never wanted to depend on anyone for anything. Football for him had provided all his needs. In short, for Rashidi Yekini, football was everything and the only thing in his life. It offered him the opportunity to escape from the pangs of poverty and he decided that the safest and best way to secure his future was not to fall victim to any smart Alecs, or scammers, or fraudsters, or business persons with sweet tongues that could talk him into parting with his hard-earned money. He did not want to be used or confused. So he built an impregnable wall around his existence, trusting only very few (he felt safer amongst the Hausa community, and did most of his very few business dealings with them). SOURCE: http:///eklkmd He worst fear was to lose his money. Thats why his celebrated one and only marriage crumbled after 3 months. He did not trust the motive of his wife for marrying him. So, he left the marriage before it even started. The same attitude underlined his relationship even with his family members. He took care of them, and provided for them, but from a safe distance. It was a dangerous mixture – to be rich and famous and to be reclusive. Stories were bound to regale such an existence and with Rashidi they came in torrents. Yet, I fully I respected his choice of life and how he chose to live it, even though my every instinct wanted to support and guide him through the turbulences that I knew he would have to face managing unprecedented fame and fortune for a young man coming from his background. No one knew this whole scenario would become the apparatus for his tragic end. Rashidi’s death now raises many questions with no answers. The stories about his state of mind have clouded the circumstances of his death that should have been thoroughly investigated to show how, where, why he died the way he did. I know a mad man when I see one. I can testify unequivocally along with some others that knew Rashidi from close-up that there was nothing wrong with him at the time he was abducted and died. Indeed, he was hale and hearty. Rashidi was not ill. He was fit and sound of mind and body. He even trained on the day he was forcefully taken away by people that have not come out to tell the world why they took him, where they took him, what happened there, who treated him for what ailment, what he died of, and so on. I can also testify that it was the misfortune that befell him a few years ago, that caused him great distress to the extent that he almost lost his life and his mind when his partner was killed and he lost most of his investment in their joint venture. That period was what some of his family members are saying to justify their wicked action in forcefully leading him to his death. Rashidi was very so much into himself. He had very few close friends and kept even them in the dark about his plight and pains, preferring to deal with the issues himself. So, he did some ‘irrational’ things. So what?. Who would not do irrational things if they lost almost their entire fortune in one fell swoop? It took Rashidi a while to get over it (some two years or so). Playing his football daily, watching movies at his closest friend’s video shop, seeking some spiritual help, avoiding the public and public places, and bearing his own grief alone gradually eased the pain. That’s where his life was when from out of the blues he rang me up. Rashidi had never done that in all our relationship. I was the one who always did the initial contacting. But some three months ago, he called me himself, and so started a new relationship that was going to bring Rashidi Yekini back to the game he loved with uncommon passion. I had assured him, after he had assured me he would fully cooperate, that he would never be far away from the game again. I assured him that the game could still help restore his lost fortunes. That he had to play it differently this time with kids as his instruments of change. He would help to nurture them, by showing and teaching them how to do the things he did best – position himself at the right place at the right time, evade tackles, and shoot accurately and powerfully with both feet, and score goals on the field of play. He was excited and raring to go. We had started discussing with companies and organizations in Lagos that would provide funds and logistical support. SOURCE: http:///eklkmd |

STORY SOURCE: http:///ufmblg R&B-Pop singer Tiwa Savage has landed a major endorsement deal with popular beverage company Pepsi, a deal we are told is worth a couple of millions of Naira. We are told that the endorsement deal was sealed with Tiwa’s current management 323 Entertainment headed by Tunji ‘T-Billz’ Balogun about a month ago. The deal sees the 32-year-old follow the likes of pop singer Ashionye who was endorsed as the face of ‘Pepsi Light’ back in 2007. ‘Yea, the deal is true, I can confirm that but that’s all I can say for now’, Balogun told NET in a phone conversation. Balogun later explained he signed a non-disclosure agreement with the parties involved. ‘I’m still surprise how the news got out so soon‘, he added. There’s no announcement yet from Pepsi. But an insider tells us there’s the possibility that another Nigerian pop star will be joining Tiwa at Pepsi. Meanwhile it’s big things popping for Tiwa who just yesterday, was announced as a new signee under top notch producer Don Jazzy’s new label outfit, MAVIN Records. Listen to her latest song off the recently released ‘Solar Plexus’ compilation album from her new crew – The Mavins. STORY SOURCE: http:///ufmblg |
SOURCE: http:///lyfmmg its a new Re-branding as Don Jazzy has brushed his shoulders from all the Mo Hits drama and swiftly re-branded with Mavin Records (Ibo boy I knew he couldn’t have been sitting at home crying about the D’Banj drama, when there’s money to be made). Mavin Records is a new record company headed by Don Jazzy with A-List musicians Dr SID, Wande Coal, D’Prince and Tiwa Savage on board and D’banj is left out.. The Mavin Records team is set to release a compilation album “Solar Plexus” featuring all the Mavin stars. According to the website, the album will be released on the 8th of May 2012 – Tomorrow! SOURCE: http:///lyfmmg So what is Mavin? Well, apparently it’s a new work coined to describe “someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field“. Message from Don Jazzy I see Mavin Records being the power house of Music in Africa in the shortest possible time. I know Rome wasn’t built in a day but with a lot of hard work, a good and God fearing team, our friends and fans, TV houses, radio stations, press, bloggers and most of all with God on our side, there is nothing we cannot achieve. I definitely won’t forget my past because I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. I know there are questions unanswered, mysteries unsolved, wounds to heal but I would really appreciate if we allow time to heal the wounds for us all instead of digging them up again. I love and respect the press and bloggers a lot and believe they will play a major role in healing our wounds and allow the forward movement. I would love to thank everyone that contributed in making Mohits records as successful as it got. We wouldn’t have done it without you all. The love and support you have given us thus far is definitely not in vain. You all helped create international superstars and none of us will let you down. SOURCE: http:///lyfmmg It is going to be a very exciting journey from here. I can’t wait to show you guys all we have planned for you all. We have some other Mavins that are not activated yet still under construction that I’m positive you are going to love. Please open up your hearts, lend us your ears, give us your love and support as always and let’s continue to entertain you. “Don’t just be amazing at what you do, be a MAVIN at it” – IDJA SOURCE: http:///lyfmmg |

Am just short of words, dis case is so sensitive |
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, southsouth Nigeria, was on Friday moved to tears while reacting to the killing of his Principal personal Secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde. He was assassinated by a yet to be identified gunmen at his private residence located at 65, 2nd Ugbor Road, GRA, Benin City. Comrade Oshiomhole, who flew in from Abuja Friday afternoon, walked with thousands of supporters and sympathisers all the way from the Airport, through Ring Road and Reservation Road to the Government House where he wailed, “they have killed my son, they have killed my son. SOURCE: http:///uyjykz “Last week, they succeed in killing three journalists. Last night, they killed Olaitan. Let me be clear they cannot kill my fighting spirit. We submitted a petition to the Commissioner of Police in which we informed him of the meetings held at the residence of the godfather where they took a critical evaluation of the forthcoming election and they agreed it is impossible for them to win,” Oshiomhole said. He further alleged that the opposition also resolved at the meeting to intimidate his person and if possible, eliminate him. “At that meeting, they said they will kill under the guise of armed robbery, many of my personal staff and key leaders to pretend as if they are victims of kidnapping. I was also informed that they resolved that weeks before the election, they will detonate bombs in parts of the state in order scare people away from going to vote. “What is our crime? Our crime is that we have mobilized our people, we have deployed public resources for the public good and the godfather is angry. We have no apology for the stand we have taken and we will not slow down. The blood of this young men will fire me on to fight and defeat the godfather. There is no going back. “They have killed my son. They have killed my brother, they have killed my people but they cannot kill my spirit. I ask you the police if they do not find the killers, if they do not do proper investigation on the killing of those journalists and of Olaitan last night, as the Governor of Edo State, I will convert the leadership of my people to find a solution to security. They must not fight like cowards. They should stand. “Last night like cowards, they shot Olaitan in the chest, head and belly to make sure he never survives. Why will a man in his eighties seat over the death of young children? Why will an old man who has children and grand children supervise the killings of young people?” Oshiomhole asked. SOURCE: http:///uyjykz The Governor said the murder of Olaitan will not stop the flag-off of his re-election campaign slated for Saturday as was the case last Saturday when the campaign flag-off was postponed after the accident that involved his convoy claimed the lives of three journalists. Meanwhile, The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch has condemned in very strong terms the gruesome assassination Oyerinde. A press statement issued and signed by the State Chairman of NMA, Dr. Philip Ugbodaga, described the killing of the governor’s aide in the early hours of Friday as “wicked ungodly, reprehensible, and condemnable. We are sad at this incident as this accentuates the worsening security situation in Edo state and in the country.” The NMA Chairman called on the security agencies to do all that is necessary to apprehend the culprits and bring them to book. Sad news reaching us is that Nigeria’s football legend Rashidi Yekini has died. He was reportedly sick for a while before passing on this evening. One of Africa’s greatest footballers, he was said to have suffered mental illness for the past two years. The two-time African footballer of the year was said to have been walking the streets of Ibadan barefooted, and suffered delusions. As a footballer, he brought victory to Nigeria by scoring Nigeria’s first ever FIFA World Cup goal, clutching the goal net thereafter behind the Bulgarian goalkeeper in a scream that reverberated around the world. He scored a total of 34 goals in 58 Appearances for the Super Eagles. Additionally, Yekini also helped the Super Eagles win the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, where he also topped the goal charts, and participated at Olympic level, in Seoul 1988. He was part of the team that participated in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the 1998 World Cup. Yekini was born in Kaduna. After starting his professional career in the Nigerian league, he moved to Cote d’Ivoire to play for Africa Sports National. From there he went to Portugal and Vitoria de Setubal, where he experienced his most memorable years, eventually becoming the Portuguese first division’s top scorer, in 1993-1994, as his performances (32 matches, 34 goals) earned him the title of African Footballer of the Year in 1993, the first ever from the nation. SOURCE: http:///riukqz In the 1994 summer, Yekini was bought by Olympiacos FC, but did not get along with teammates and left. His career never really got back on track, not even upon a return to Setubal, which happened after another unassuming spell, in La Liga with Sporting de Gijon. He successively played with FC Zurich, Club Athletique Bizertin and Al-Shabab Riyadh, before rejoining Africa Sports. In 2003, at 39, he returned to the Nigerian championship with Julius Berger FC. In 2005, 41-year old Yekini made a short comeback, moving alongside former national teammate Mobi Oparaku to Gateway FC. Rashidi Yekini’s name would forever be remembered in the history of Nigerian football for his great achievements. He was aged 49. May his soul Rest In Peace. SOURCE: http:///riukqz |
