To a lot of entertainment pundits reconciling top hip-hop stars Wizkid and Davido is mission impossible but we can authoritatively inform that this daunting task has been achieved as musicians, Wizkid and his erstwhile arch rival, Davido were recently reconciled in Lagos. As a prove of their reconciliation, both of them performed at the EME’s Baddest concert held on Friday 21st of December, 2012 at Ocean view restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos. It would be recalled that Wizkid and Davido have been on superiority war for over a year now and the fight got chaotic some weeks back when the two released singles denigrating each other. Wizkid and his EME’s crew first release a song title Baddest Boyz to spite Davido, and Davido also responded with his smash hit single, All of You. SOURCE: http:///74I1

The name OmoJesu may not ring a bell to an average entertainment enthusiast but to those who follow the fast rising comedy industry, he is one of those that have carved a niche for himself as a gospel comedian. Recently, the self-acclaimed prophet of comedy, Daniel Isiwele from Edo State spoke to us on how he got into comedy, the challenges and others issues. SOURCE: http:///xwyW Daniel Isiwele, aka OmoJesus. is a young man who could be said to have gone on a self discovery course on purpose. He has strived to make a name for himself in the comedy industry and it seems to be paying off at least for someone who has given ten undiluted years to doing comedy. He says, “I came into comedy through self-motivation. Comedy began for me after I received a word ‘discover to recover’ by a motivational speaker and Daystar church pastor, Niyi Adesanya. This took me five years to get over with. I kept thinking, what is that thing that is in me that I can work with and I won’t study for. Later I discovered that any time my friends were doing their birthdays, they always called me to act as the master of ceremony for them. People will call me and won’t pay me for the shows. I now packaged myself and took comedy as a career. I will boldly say that there is no born comedian; you can only see a born talker and any angle that you direct it to will now work for you. For me, I began to add varieties of comedy to my acts and from there I started doing comedy and the thing became part of me. If you see me now, you will think I was born with it.” Becoming a comedian was not rosy for Daniel Isiwele as he had to pass through frustrations and dissatisfactions here and there trying to make a living. “I discovered comedy as a result of hunger. If not for the frustrations I got in my office, I would not have been searching for knowledge here and there. Because of that hunger, I started searching for knowledge and through knowledge, I discovered myself. I worked as an electrical and technical engineer because I studied electrical engineering while I was in higher institution. After graduating, I went into secular jobs for about ten years. While I was working, I discovered that I was living on borrowing. They were paying me N17, 500 and before the month ran out I would have borrowed up to N10, 000 and at the end of the month, they will give me the balance of N7, 500. I was just living a life of borrowing. These and many other frustrations from my job led me into being a comedian. Now the story is different as the self-styled humorist has done a couple of gigs through the years and enjoying the trade. He said, Basically it’s going up to ten years now that I have been into comedy professionally. I presented a program on a Lagos TV, Galaxy Television for three years called Caller Café. I was the producer as well. I have been able to register a company, Laughter Motives. I have done Laughs and Holy Live with OmoJesu which is annually and also another show with a comedian, Koffi. I have released Laugh and Be Holy with OmoJesu in 2006 and in 2007, I dropped comedy explosion volume 1 and I have actually to my credits, a sixteen tracks musical album and two comedy audio Cds. I am grateful to God. Combining comedy with music is creativity. In fact, I am working on a song title Mr. No Nonsense for the young generations because I discover that nowadays we have neglected the teens and most of our jokes are not addressing their challenges. What makes me different from other comedians is that I do reality jokes. I do jokes to regulate the irregularities in the Christendom because I am a gospel branded comedian. Though, I do musical and corporate events ,but I am a Christian comedian. OmoJesu discloses why he is the self acclaimed prophet of comedy. “Yes, I acclaim myself as the prophet of comedy right now because comedy is a calling while to be an MC is a profession to me. I just discovered that the Lord was beginning to put in me prophetic inspired words and being a comedian, I have been working on it. There are so many things I say that you will think are jokes but at a point became a serious issue. So that was why I began to develop the idea that I have a prophetic calling. Since then, I have become a comedian by calling and profession.” With the array of contemporary comedian, a career popularized by the famed Allibaba, there is competition among the comic acts. In the midst of this Is OmoJesu fulfilled? “Yes and I am proud to be one of the comedians in Nigeria today. Comedy has put food in my mouth and money in my pocket. Now I am presently doing my house project. I have done things with comedy which I cannot mention. So, I don’t have any regret on being a comedian. With all humility, I have performed before the 36 State governors. The event was Compass Governor’s Awards. Compass Newspapers organized the event at Hilton hotel in Abuja and Princess and I were the comedians who hosted the event. It was a live program on television. In the next few years, I want to break through international events and already they have started coming in gradually. I have done several shows both in and outside Lagos and also performed with Ali Baba and so many top notch comedians. My advice for upcoming comedians is that they should be self-motivated and determined. They should be sure that they have the talent and also know that they are called to do what they are doing. If you are convinced, then you should keep doing it with passion“, he averred. Lastly, he speaks about his family and personality. “OmoJesu is married and blessed with two kids. I have a National Diploma in electrical engineering at Yaba College of Technology, and I am a B.SC holder in Marketing from the Lagos State University. My personality is simple. I am just a young corporate man that likes doing anything creative.”

The Nigerian Pop group Skuki, made up of brothers Peeshaun and Vavavoom will launch their own brand of condoms next year. When asked why they decided to delve into that line of production, Skuki said “We are great believers in the fact that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow and have to learn from a young age that if you can’t abstain, you have to play safe. But not only that, we are looking at it from the concept of family planning, of teenage pregnancies and putting a stop to it. Every pregnant teenager in our society is another teenager that has to stop schooling in order to handle the situation they find themselves in. It goes way more than just the condom and sex part. It’s our way of giving back to the society”. So when next you want to peeshaun, make sure you grab your peeshaun condoms. Skuki were in the news recently because of a controversy surrounding ownership of the beat to their latest single ‘Move It’. Apparently Headies 2012 Next rated winner, Davido had used the same beat for another song titled ‘No Visa’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-BYh0BS7ss

A lot has been said about 9ice’s marriage with some reports saying at a time Toni Payne was carrying a baby for him, while other reports said he was dating an Abuja lady who had a set of twins for him. 9ice has come out to dispel the rumours and the lies. Reacting to the story on an Abuja based lover having a set of twins for him while speaking to showtime, 9ice said; “I wish the press would verify their stories about me before publishing them. Nobody had any baby for me. That story is not true and I want to tell you that they are making it up.” The part of his story fans are eager to hear directly from him also came up; whether he’s made up with estranged wife, Toni Payne. 9ice was quick to say it’s another story made up. “That story isn’t true. Tony Payne and I are still separated and not back together. That is the fact!” Yesterday, we reported that 9ice is dropping four new singles soon. Now, we have the titles of the singles that were shot in the UK. “I’ll be releasing those videos as a compilation in a few weeks. I shot the video for my singles Attitude and 3310 from my latest album, Bashorun Gaa,” 9ice said. “Like I said, those videos will be released as a compilation and I titled them Obawon, Ikekan, Get Into It and I Dare You.” “The four singles are also meant to wet the appetites of the fans for my next album coming out in March 15 next year. But before then, the Alapomeji All Star album will drop in December.” According to 9ice, there will be a concert in the second week of December (no fixed date yet) to publicize the new videos. “It will be in second week of December but no specific date yet. It will take place at Civic Center. The concert is basically for industry people and the press as well. It will be strictly by invitation.” 9ice doesn’t make the title of upcoming albums a secret; he tells his fans as soon as there’s a title. He said he’ll be releasing a double album like the last one he did. “One is ‘CNN’ while the other one is titled ‘GRA’. Each is going to come with eight songs making a total number of16 songs. The full meaning of GRA is Galvanizing Right Ahead and the other one is Cancelling Numerous Negativity (CNN).” When asked what he feels about the current state of the Nigerian Music industry, 9ice said: “I think we are getting worst instead of getting better. What we dished out is not quality. What we have now is quite different from the way it all started. I would say it’s better we go back to the days of Plantashun Boiz.” SOURCE: http:///K73b

The once upon a smooth and cordial relationship between the Nigerian and Ghanaian movie industries is alleged to be gradually going sour as a result of unhealthy rivalry. Patience Ivie Obhafuoso in this piece examines some salient issues in the alleged feud. The Nigeria movie industry (Nollywood) has gained much popularity within and outside Nigeria over the years. Being the second largest film industry in the world, Nollywood is a household name in virtually every family across the country. Ghollywood on the other hand, is the Ghanaian version of Nollywood. Looking at how the relationship between Nollywood and Ghollywood began, some say that Ghanaians have been involved in Nigerian movie productions since the inception of Nollywood, while some others believe that their presence is a recent development. However, some agreed that the Nigerian movie industry served as a launch-pad for its Ghanaian counterpart. Source: http:///AW9VA According to the NigerianFilms.com, this was achieved through the appearance of Ghanaian faces in Nollywood productions with the popularity of the industry serving as a vehicle which launched them into stardom. Instead of continued partnership, the Ghanaians borrowed a leaf from their host industry and set up their own Ghollywood, thereby started featuring popular Nigerian actors and actresses in their productions. It was gathered recently that the authorities of the Ghanaian movie industry issued a directive stating that no Nigerian actor/actress would be allowed to work on any of its movies unless they pay a fee of one thousand dollars each. In response, the Film, Video Producers and Markers Association of Nigeria (FVPMAN), placed an embargo on Ghanaian films from August, 2012. The association has also resolved to halt the distribution of films produced by non-professionals. It insists that if such film(s) must be distributed, its right of ownership should be transferred to its members on negotiation. The FVPMAN chairman, Onitsha branch, Mr. Uzo Godson Nwosu, said the decision became necessary following the position taken by their Ghanaian counterparts who have banned the distribution of Nigerian films in their country long time ago. Speaking with LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, Nollywood actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima, condemned the rivalry between the industries, saying that both Nigeria and Ghana are west African countries and are expected to love each other. “We started acting movies together and all of a sudden…there is really no need for this. I am not blaming either Nollywood or Ghollywood, all I am saying is that it is not worth it”, she said. Also, Nollywood actor, Bob Manuel, condemned the contention, describing it as an unfortunate incident. According to him, “I am not aware of the situation but if it is true, it is unfortunate because Nigeria and Ghana share the most of similarity. The natural thing we did was to involve Ghana in our movies. If that is true, it is really unfortunate because it’s like extending a hand of friendship to somebody you consider as a friend. “They should not forget that Ghana is a small country and what we need is to complement each other. It is an unhealthy development and an ill wind that will blow neither country any good.” However, the Director-General, Nigeria Film Census Board, Mr. Emeka Mba, dismissed the claim. He said, “We have not banned Ghanaian films in Nigeria and I have no official report as to whether Nigerian films have been banned in Ghana. I heard it just the same way you heard about it”. He revealed that part of what he learnt was going on in Ghana was that there were certain processes required of a film producer to shoot a film in Ghana. “If they don’t go through these processes, the film could not be allowed to circulate in Ghana. That is probably what people are speculating”, he said. Whatever might be the true position of the story, unhealthy rivalry will do both countries no good. Let’s clear our differences and move our industries forward for the betterment of West Africa and Africa at large. Source: http:///AW9VA

The storm brewing between young rapper, Olamide and producer -label boss I.D Cabasa seems to be on the low key but reliable sources have revealed that all is not well between the duo. ‘I’m still with CODED Tunes’, Olamide says but sources confirm that the young rapper has dumped the label for the popular Yes Records, which is run by Anthony Nwakile, Olamide’s present manager. ‘Olamide doesn’t come to Cabasa’s studio like he used to anymore. Nowadays, he comes once in a while’, a close friend to ID Cabasa tells NET in anonymity. But another source insists Olamide still comes over to Cabasa’s studio because his deal with Coded Tunes has not expired. Until now, former rapper and CODED Tunes artiste 2Phat had acted as Olamide’s manager after he broke off from Toni Payne’s management. But in recent times, Olamide has not been seen with him. NET placed a call to ID Cabasa who denied the news and stressed that Olamide is still signed to CODED Tunes. We then placed a call to 2Phat and asked him the same questions. He didn’t divulge any information but passed the phone to ID Cabasa who sounded very upset. He not only declined to comment further on the matter, but threatened to insult our reporter. ‘I’m fasting and I have not eaten all today, whatever I say to you will come to pass’, Cabasa angrily said. Olamide’s manager speaking with NET however confirmed his departure; ‘I don’t want to say anything about it. I am only his manager. I managed him while he was in CODED Tunes and even afterwards’. Olamide’s latest video for the recent single ‘Unite’ directed by Godfather Productions in South Africa doesn’t have CODED Tunes name or emblem as it was in previous videos. NET reliably gathered that Olamide has also setup his own crew called YBNL (Yahoo Boy No Laptop) with rappers Kida Kudz (winner of Peak Talent Show season 2) and 2Kriss. They have since released their first two singles ‘Abeg o‘ and ‘Road to YBNL‘. It will be recalled that the label, Yes Records in 2009 signed five artistes including CODED Tunes boss ID Cabasa and affiliate Jahbless who went on to release albums ‘ID.ENTITY’ and ‘Rebirth’ respectively Source: http:///AL1T7 |
