CHAPTER 38

Soji received a call from the police station requesting Luisa's presence because her friend demands her presence, he was initially against it but after giving it a thought he agreed and persuaded Luisa. It was a good thing that she had no exams that day and so they went together.

Lola's parents were already at the police station awaiting Luisa and Soji so that they could apologize on their daughter's behalf. Luisa recognized them and so she went on her knees on sighting them, they looked at her with pity, she hasn't recovered that much, the scar on her cheek was there (will always be). They were short of words after they saw their daughter had done to a fellow human being, someone whom she claims she's friends with. Mr. and Mrs. Adetokunbo had been opportuned to see Luisa once before and this made it easier for them to see the difference.

"Luisa my child, please forgive your friend"After a long observation Lola's mother finally spoke up.

"even though she's not worthy of being your friend again please have mercy on her" Lola's father chipped in.

Everything they said made her cry. She couldn't stand remembering Lola, the beginning of their friendship, the closeness they had experienced, she loved her more than she loved Becca, she felt and thought Lola was the best. This same Lola was the architect of her kidnap.

"I can't forgive her" she blurted and ran out on everybody that was seated their, she was hurt and heartbrokeng.

******
On a sunny Wednesday, the day Luisa wrote her final paper. So far, it went well, all that had been revised with her by her boyfriend and her best friend had been of added advantage for her in the exams. she saw Becca running towards her direction, at first she felt she was there to congratulate her but no.

"are you through with the exam?" she asked like she wasn't really concerned

"you should at least congratulate me for writing my final paper at last" she retracted her smiling face seeing her friend's countenance.

Becca noticed this and gave her a charming smile, "congratulations bestie. I came all the way here to see the smile on your face after your final paper as an undergraduate. This calls for celebration honey" she said giving her a tight hug.

"we are in public" Luisa whispered to her ear. Becca gave no thought to what she said, she still held her friend to herself with tears of joy on their faces.

"soji will be here any time from now to pick me home, let's wait for him so that he wouldn't meet my absence"

"I've got you covered baby" she said as she pulled her along. "we are going to celebrate this somewhere special"

She felt it would be better she called Soji to inform him of her outing with Becca, she told him she has no idea of where she was taking her but she's in safe hands.

They got to an eatery around the school after 15-20minutes walk, Luisa was famished so she didn't bother to ask her friend why they are at an eatery to celebrate. The atmosphere at the restaurant was different. There were cars outside the eatery but not a single customer was in. There were balloons and decorations on the wall, the eatery attendants grin from ear to ear, she wondered what the cause of the happiness is.

"was a party going on here?" she asked her friend who seem not to be surprised about what she saw.

"I don't think so" she pulled a chair to sit while she gestured at an attendant, requested for two plates of Jollof rice, a little bit of Salad and chicken, table water and a bottle of Eva wine.

Luisa was already salivating, she was very hungry. The food was brought after some minutes, she ate like someone who was eating her last meal not minding what was happening around her. The musical instruments that came from God knows where were brought to life before her with beautiful and romantic songs. That was when she looked up from her plate of rice, S-U-R-P-R-I-S-E was written on her face after seen whom she least expect.

CHAPTER 5

Her night was long, she rolled from side to side on her big bed imagining what she saw during the day, sleep eluded her. From her termination of appointment to meeting the perfect Fred he had longed for.
Fred waited till she came out of the shower, the muscle holding her chin trembled as a result of lengthy sobbing.

"I'm sorry for being the reason for your tears" he held her hand which she politely pulled back. She went to sit on the small stool that came with her dresser staring intently at herself. She could see from the mirror that Fred was moving closer to where she sat, he held her shoulder like someone who was giving a massage to a superior. He could behold her face through the mirror, PAIN was written boldly written on it. He was sorry for her, he pictured his wife in his mind, how her beauty and cheerful self radiates wherever she was, how her smile unleashes the dimple that is on a side of her cheek.

"Fred, I want to be alone" she managed to mutter beneath her breath.

"I'm sorry Amy, let me stay with you" he moved to her front, causing an obstruction as he held on to her right hand which was beautifully manicured.

"get out of my room" she barked at him. The way she had shouted at him made him shuddered, he could sense she was in no mood for whatsoever he was trying to table before her.

"I will come back when you're calm" he said leaving her at the spot she was seated, she gave no response to whatsoever Fred had said before leaving the room.

Fred was too good to be true at that moment, he could turn to the woman beater she knows anytime. She slept off trying to find a correlation between the characters Fred was playing.

she held a spoon stirring the stew she was preparing for lunch, someone held her tiny waist from behind, no one was home except herself and Fred, she could perceive the sweet scent of his cologne. He cuddled her from behind, her hand quivered as she dropped the spoon she was holding to face her husband, the smooching continued as she groaned in pleasure. The desire to have each other burned in their eyes. He slid his hand into the camisole she had on, she moaned and held on tight to the worktop to balance herself.
Ko-Ko-ko, there was on a knock on her door, she opened her eyes only to find out that her adventure was a dream, she hissed in disappointment. The knock came on again.

"Mariam, come in" she said with hoarseness in her voice.

The door opened and Fred came in holding a tray that has tea, slices of bread and Mayonnaise.
"Good morning baby, breakfast in bed" he said placing the tray on a stool by the bedside.

She watched in amazement as her husband added sugar and milk to the tea. Was she still dreaming?

"Amy I just met a guy who had been crushing on you since we moved to this area" Gladys called out of the kitchen. Amanda who was aware of her friend being hell bent on getting her a man gave no response as she watched CNN with rapt attention. Gladys rushed out of the kitchen like someone who is being chased by a dangerous masquerade.

"Amanda, I just said something to you but no response" she sat on the couch opposite Amanda but she didn't respond, Gladys hissed and stood right at the front of the 40inches LG plasma TV that was hung on the wall. "I won't leave until you answer me" she said feigning a frown.

Amanda dropped the remote control and rested her back while she listened to whatever her friend had in mind to tell her.

"Madam oya speak ah dey hear you" she chuckled

Gladys laughed at her friend's action and brought out her phone "I met this guy at the mall yesterday" trying to search for his picture on her phone, she gave the phone to her.

"you guys even snapped a selfie, is he your new 'boyfriend'"

"babe stop jare, I'm not promiscuous joor" she said snatching her phone from her. "its about you"

The amazed expression on her face questioned Gladys "are you okay"

"yes I am, this guy likes you and wants you as his babe"

"just like that? Don't be ridiculous Gladys, I'm not desperately looking for a man to date."

Gladys was less concerned about the look on Amanda's face, she did not stop talking. She gushed about how the guy had saw them jogging and carried away by her friend's beauty. Of course Amanda was beautiful, the second version of Agbani Darego, she's slim, dark skinned and tall. Gladys on the other hand was chubby and average in height, she has a bright colour that made her noticeable anywhere she went.

Amanda and Gladys lived together ever since they started earning a living, they had been friends since God knows when. It was their habit to jog every morning before getting ready for work, 20minutes during week days and 45minutes during weekends. They had just moved to that estate because Amanda's place of work was just 15minutes drive from the house.

"he wants to date you" Gladys finally said to her

"no I can't" she retorted "I don't even know him"

"I assure you, he is definitely your type of man, get to know him first. Please..." with a babyish mien she held on to her legs.

Amanda wasn't comfortable with the discussion her friend brought up but she hate to make her feel irrelevant so she accepted to meet up with the guy. With enthusiasm Gladys ran to her room to bring the card the guy had begged her to give Amanda for communication purposes. She took the card from her and kept it in a purse she doesn't use often.

"now that I've satisfied you can I continue with my program"

"yes you can" she pecked her on the cheek and rushed back to the kitchen.

Weeks passed and she didn't get in touch with the guy, his picture which she had seen on Gladys phone the day she talked about him displayed in her mind. She was not even in a relationship so giving it a trial wouldn't be a bad idea she thought. She reached for the card that her friend had given to her that day and dialed his number, that was the beginning of her relationship with Tom.
