Eaglets to get Super Eagles call ups by Calvin Emeka Onwuka 20 November 2013, 12:53 Credit: SuperSports.com Stephen Keshi has told supersport.com that he intends calling up a few of the Nigeria U17 Players to the Super Eagles in preparation for next year's CHAN tournament There have been widespread calls within Nigeria that members of the U-17world cup winning team to be drafted into the Super Eagles ahead of the world cup. In an exclusive interview with supersport.com at the Hilton Cobham hotel where the Nigerian team based following the friendly with Italy, coach Stephen Keshi has been speaking on a variety of issues including the availability of the Eaglets. "I watched them during their tournament and I did mention that I liked a few of the players and of course I will like to take a closer look at them. So the plan is to invite them to the training programme for next year's CHAN and monitor them". The Afcon winning coach is careful to temper the expectations of the public with regards these players. "People need to understand that even though they won their tournament, it does not mean they are ready to play for the senior teams immediately. Like I keep saying, I am on the lookout for those players that will improve the present squad so these U-17 boys will get the first crack at it. I will be pleased if one or two step up their game and make it" It will be recalled that 20 years ago, as Nigeria prepared for a first world cup appearance, then head coach Clemens Westerhof gave caps to the then U-17 world cup winners Karibe Ojigwe and Kanu Nwankwo in friendlies but they did not make the final squad to the USA based tournament of 1994. © supersport.com |

laplace19: Manu Garba is right...... Keshi allowing the golden eaglets to train with the super eagles is a good idea. What players will you choose from this eaglets team and pick for the world cup next year? |
Manu to Keshi: My players are good enough for Brazil 2014 Posted by: Our Reporter in Sports 3 hours ago • Says Eaglets will learn more under the Big Boss Golden Eaglets’ head coach, Manu Garba has challenged the Super Eagles’ handler, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi to look in the direction of his players for next year’s senior FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The Eaglets have been flawless since the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup began in the United Arab Emirates(UAE) and are only a game away from carting away a record fourth cadet title on Asian soil. Ahead of the final match in Abu Dhabi tomorrow, Manu told journalists in Sharjah that Keshi would do very well to invite some of the players to camp for them to gain additional knowledge and experience leading to the 2018 edition which he said they would be prepared for. The Eaglets gaffer said that securing spots in the 2014 FIFA World Cup squad may be a tall order for his boys because they still lack the necessary requisite experience to cope with the demands of the senior World Cup. But Manu noted that his boys would relish the opportunity for some of them to train with the Super Eagles and that it would remain indelible in their hearts till when they would have their own chance in the senior national team. “Yes, I believe that some of my players are good enough for the Super Eagles. They can play at next year’s World Cup though it may be too early for them. They can, however, gain experience from their stay in the Eagles’ camp that will be of help when they have the opportunity to represent their fatherland in 2018 World Cup. “I want to appeal to Keshi to give some of the Eaglets the chance to train with the senior national team because they will definitely have something to learn that will be of immense benefit to them in the future,” Manu told journalists after the Eaglets 2-0 win over Uruguay in Sharjah last Saturday. Two goals from Taiwo Awoniyi got the Eaglets a spot in the last four before another impressive 3-0 scoreline over Sweden in the semi final which secured their place in the final. |

kabba7: Just read somewhere this morning that some of our under 17 playersare actually married with children , I understand some family members were at the airport during departure . I don't know how accurate the report is , I will therefore wish anyone with the accurate report to come up to counter . though am aware ee are a country with large scale fraud including but not limited to election rigging, looting .kidnapping, scammers ,am not too com fortable with report though the report never said only naija fielded o et players seem that is the in thing in this years tournament.abeg shut up...provide your source or shut up...bring up useless propaganda |
CFCfan: I think it will be too soon for them to play in the CHAN. Let them be drafted to the U-20 team first. It will be a good experience for them....as they build for future u-20 world cup....these baby eagles are future super eagles... ![]() |
powacon: Pls what happened to the 2007 U17 team should not happen to this boys. The are relatively young and should be kept together. They should progress as a team to U20.
