Safety First Before you even think about fixing anything in your home that involves electricity, you want to make sure you are doing it in a safe way. Electricity is DANGEROUS and you can be HURT or even KILLED if you are not careful. With that said, there are some basic precautions that will keep you from getting hurt. Making sure the 'POWER IS OFF' before you work on any electrical device is always the first thing you should do. Understanding how electricity works and the task you are performing should be done before you begin. Using the proper tools and wearing the right personal protective equipment is also very important. |

Basics of Wiring When working with wiring, always cut the power supply at the breaker box first before beginning any actual work. Then, test the local area with a neon tester to make sure that the power is off and that it is safe to go ahead. Most wiring in a home is either 12-gauge or 14-gauge. Typically, when attaching existing wiring to a device or fixture, you will follow the color code by matching each color wire with its corresponding twin. Light switches, for example, operate on the black wire and will connect directly to another black wire already in the system. |

Taking it a step ahead, we want to highlight our reasons for developing such a solution and how it relates to everyday living. You see, just as LED lighting, Solar power systems all serve to the goal of spending less and less on power, it is often overlooked that these systems are borne by a key (infra)structure- The electrical cable. Poor electrical design/fitting is at the root of fire breakouts, damaged home appliances, and everyday electrical faults, and this is as a result of: • Power distribution placed far from socket points • Little to zero earthing /grounding • Use of alloy cables instead of pure copper • Unclear appliances segmentation from distribution point • Unscrupulous cable sizing in a bid to scrimp out extra cash, etc. These can be avoided at construction by engaging only qualified personnel for a balanced, holistic look at your building design, wiring and fitting. The benefits- lower electricity tariffs, reduced losses, appliance safety and better energy efficiency, are well worth the investment now and for the future.
