as you would agree with me, poultry business profitability is largely dependent on the scale you operate. the truth is that the higher you produce, the lower your cost of production. doing 100 for start up is good but settling on 100 if you have space is wasteful. 5k used to run medication for 100 birds can also run medication for 200 birds. the profitability depends on your scale

meanwhile let's do a little plus /minus

100 birds at 200 per bird- 20,000
feeds- 4 bags of starter at 3750- 15000
11 bags of finisher at 3650-40150
drugs 5000
wood shavings/transport-2000
kerosene- 2000

total- 84,150

Working with a mortality of 5,

Revenue is 114,000
profit is 29,850.

With proper management and a little bit of knowledge and luck, you can reduce the mortality and the amount spent in medications. there is organic farming now where you can use things around you to stand in for drugs and they are even more effective. My vet is complaining that I don't call or visit as before, we have found better natural alternatives to drugs. Credit goes to my oga @organic foods

Some Common mistakes to avoid before starting Organic Poultry farming

* Ensure you get the right knowledge.Very imperative in order to avoid story that touch.I remember before i ventured into my organic poultry farming,i read a lot of information about the business,i join so many organic groups and i also did paid training. I kept reading also on the net in order to be abreast of any challenges that might come up.Before venturing into poultry business seek the right knowledge

*Housing Birds in an unhygienic environment,this singe act can be very detrimental to the health of the birds and after the success of your business. Dirty environment can lead to many health issues such as respiratory problems, mite/lice infestations and a host of other health issues and diseases.

*Not noticing a Sick Bird in time.You need to be very observant.Birds needs to be checked daily.You need to take note of color of the birds poo,feeding habit,activeness etc

*Having Overcrowded housing for birds.Overcrowding can lead to stress, cannibalism, feather pecking, and other issues.

The birds came in quite small and i was wasn't happy.I used a new supplier and he pleaded and said it was hatchery problem.Hoping my next back will have the required weight.

PRE-START UP
Before venturing into poultry farming there are alots of things that needs to be put in place.

1.Passion,tenacity and determination: these qualities are highly needed and necessary before starting Organic Poultry farming

2. Adequate training:You need to get the required skills regarding organic poultry farming. Also research, visit existing farms if necessary

3. Capital: Estimate the amount required to start up and have extra funds for unforeseen circumstances

4. Decide on the area of Poultry farming you want to start up. Sectors include meat production (broilers), egg products (layers), feed production, consultancy services and training

to my own opinion, you'll need up to 10bags and you will surely achieve more dan 2kg if feed well

What in particular do you want to buy?

The Birds eats their regular feed. During brooding, I use Rice husk underneath the newspaper for some days. Then later I stop the newspaper and spread wood shaving. I don't use saw dust(my choice)

How do u tackle Newcastle Disease with herbs?

From experience,hygiene is a Top notch in poultry farming and prevents lots of poultry diseases.
Herbs ranging from Tagiri, Cayenne pepper will take care of NCD.

I start giving my birds herbs from Day one till slaughter and also at different days water only.

I started my poultry farming in 2018 with a carton of birds(51).I raise only broilers for now. Maybe in near future I will venture into Layers. My mortality rate has been 0% - 5% .I use mainly herbs ranging from;
Garlic
Ginger
Tagiri
LAB
MCV
Bitterleaf
Cayenne pepper
Tumeric
Black pepper
Been extracts
Scent leaves
and others
