Health › ESUTH Undergoing Transformation To Becomes Enugu's Flagship - CMD by Tabithatim(op): 7:14am On Jun 03 |
NEW: Governor Mbah is repositioning ESUT Teaching Hospital as Enugu’s flagship tertiary health institution - CMD, Prof Ngwu
The Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Parklane, Enugu, is currently undergoing an extensive and deliberate transformation aimed at repositioning it as Enugu State’s flagship tertiary health institution, following a series of infrastructure expansions, policy interventions, and institutional reforms driven by the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Bethrand Ngwu, disclosed this during a media interaction with the press on Monday, where he provided an update on ongoing developments in infrastructure renewal, medical education, specialist training, and healthcare service delivery at the institution.
According to Prof. Ngwu, the scale of transformation being witnessed at ESUT Teaching Hospital reflects Governor Mbah’s strategic decision to place healthcare at the epicentre of his development agenda for Enugu State.
“The governor strongly believes that no state can truly develop without prioritising the health of its people. He understands that health is wealth, and that if you want to grow the wealth of a state, nation, community, or individual, you must first enhance and sustain the health of the people,” he said.
Prof. Ngwu explained that shortly after assuming office in May 2023, Governor Mbah undertook an inspection visit to the hospital, where he identified significant gaps in infrastructure capacity and the urgent need for expansion to accommodate rising patient inflow and growing training demands.
This assessment, according to him, led to the swift approval and execution of a modern Triage and Emergency Unit, which was completed within a record time of four months. The success of that project, he noted, paved the way for additional large-scale interventions, including the approval of two major structures, a twin six-floor medical complex and a seven-floor nursing and training facility, both of which are now at advanced stages of completion.
Prof. Ngwu explained that the six-floor complex, which was initially conceived strictly as a diagnostic laboratory facility, was later redesigned and expanded into a full-fledged medical services complex, adding that it now accommodates advanced laboratories, surgical theatres, intensive care units, recovery wards, radiological suites, and other specialised clinical units essential for tertiary healthcare delivery.
He further noted that the facility has significantly strengthened the hospital’s academic and accreditation profile, contributing directly to the approval of an expanded 350-student admission quota by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, marking a major milestone in the institution’s medical training capacity.
“I can confidently say that over 90 per cent of the work has been done. What remains are mainly finishing touches and installation of equipment,” the CMD stated.
Prof. Ngwu also highlighted the seven-floor Nursing Complex as a critical component of the hospital’s long-term vision to integrate clinical service delivery with advanced medical training. The building, he said, includes a basement and multiple floors dedicated to lecture halls, administrative offices, conference facilities, student hostels, and learning spaces designed to support interdisciplinary medical education.
In addition, he revealed that high-end MRI and CT scan equipment originally procured for the Government House Clinic had been redirected to ESUT Teaching Hospital, ensuring that such advanced diagnostic tools are made available for public healthcare delivery rather than restricted access.
“Rather than reserving such facilities for a select few, Governor Mbah decided they should benefit the general public,” he disclosed, describing the decision as a reflection of the governor’s inclusive and people-centred governance approach.
The CMD further disclosed that the hospital has recorded major improvements in its Children’s Emergency Unit, alongside expanded training and accreditation gains at its annex facilities.
The Colliery Annex, he noted, continues to serve as a key examination centre for the West African College of Surgeons, attracting candidates and medical professionals from across West Africa.
Similarly, the Iji-Nike Annex has been fully accredited as a major centre for Family Medicine training by both the West African College of Physicians and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
The facility, he stated, currently hosts about 30 resident doctors and six consultants, with expectations of further expansion in the coming years.
Prof. Ngwu stressed that the development is part of a broader strategy to position Enugu State as a leading hub for medical education and specialist training, with the capacity to produce highly skilled healthcare professionals for Nigeria and the wider West African sub-region.
He further credited the Mbah administration for restoring industrial harmony within the hospital system, noting that ESUT Teaching Hospital has not experienced any strike action since the governor assumed office.
“Previously, doctors were leaving, but today doctors from other institutions are seeking opportunities to come here. The reason is simple. The governor has improved welfare, working conditions, and remuneration for healthcare professionals, he said.
According to him, the improved working environment, timely response to staff concerns, and enhanced welfare structure have not only reduced attrition but also made the hospital an attractive destination for medical professionals seeking career growth and stability.
Prof. Ngwu also disclosed that the state government recently approved over N70 million for the comprehensive reticulation of water within the hospital, saying that the Enugu State Water Corporation has since connected dual water supply lines to the facility, while a government-provided water tanker now serves as a backup system to ensure uninterrupted supply during occasional disruptions. source

Alleged attack in Awgu is false - Enugu govt The Enugu State Government has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media and other platforms alleging that innocent citizens were attacked in Awgu, Awgu Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Enugu State, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the government categorically stated that no such incident occurred anywhere in Awgu or any other part of the state. He described the report as a fabrication deliberately concocted by individuals seeking to misinform the public and create unnecessary panic.
According to the Commissioner, residents of Awgu and other communities across Enugu State are peacefully going about their lawful activities without any security breach of the nature being alleged.
"The attention of the Enugu State Government has been drawn to the spurious and completely false report alleging an attack on innocent citizens in Awgu Local Government Area. We wish to state unequivocally that no such incident occurred. The report is fake, baseless, and exists only in the imagination of those peddling it.
"We therefore urge members of the public to disregard the misinformation and refrain from spreading unverified claims capable of causing fear and confusion among citizens. The administration of Governor Peter Mbah has made security a top priority and continues to invest heavily in measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state.
"It is unfortunate that some individuals, apparently uncomfortable with the prevailing peace, security, and stability in Enugu State, would resort to fabricating falsehoods in a desperate attempt to score cheap political points at the expense of Ndi Enugu and the state's hard-earned reputation as one of the safest destinations in the country."
Dr. Agbo further warned that the government would not fold its arms while malicious actors spread falsehoods capable of undermining public confidence and security. He stressed that anyone found to be involved in the deliberate creation or dissemination of fake news would face the full weight of the law.
He reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of Ndi Enugu remain central to Governor Peter Mbah's transformational development agenda.
The Enugu State Government therefore calls on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while relying only on verified and credible sources of information regarding security matters in the state.

Health › Governor Mbah Unveils Re-Equipped Neonatal Ward In Parklane Hospital by Tabithatim(op): 6:43am On May 30 |
…As Jim Nwobodo rallies support, insists Mbah deserves re-electionGovernor Peter Mbah has unveiled the newly renovated and re-equipped Neonatal and Special Babies Ward at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, as part of the activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
The facility, upgraded through the intervention of the Cecilia Oyebola Foundation founded by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, Dr Yomi Jaye, is equipped with modern incubators, infusion and syringe pumps, phototherapy equipment, autoclave machines, baby monitoring devices and upgraded nursing facilities aimed at improving neonatal care and reducing infant mortality in the state.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, commended Dr Jaye for his commitment and personal sacrifice towards advancing healthcare delivery in Enugu State.
According to the governor, the intervention reflected the culture of collective responsibility and service championed by his administration, where government officials go beyond official duties to contribute personally to the development of the state.
He described Dr Jaye, who also marked his 51st birthday, as a humble and exemplary public servant whose humanity and dedication had continued to inspire confidence in the administration’s healthcare transformation agenda.
Governor Mbah noted that the state government had transformed the ESUT Teaching Hospital from what it met in 2023 into a modern and rapidly improving medical institution capable of competing with leading healthcare facilities across the country.
He stressed that his administration remained committed to building a world-class healthcare system through strategic investments in infrastructure, equipment and manpower development.
In his remarks, former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, lauded Governor Mbah for what he described as unprecedented transformation in the health sector, insisting that the governor deserved overwhelming support for re-election in 2027.
Nwobodo, who cut the ribbon and performed the unveiling ceremony, alongside his wife, Dr. Patricia Nwobodo, said he was deeply impressed by the quality of facilities at the neonatal ward, stressing that he had hardly seen such standards even in some hospitals abroad.
He stated that the development contradicted criticisms from political opponents and further confirmed that the Mbah administration was delivering tangible results across sectors.
Also speaking, Dr Jaye said the project was inspired by his lifelong commitment to children’s welfare and in memory of his late mother, who was a teacher.
He explained that the renovated neonatal ward was designed to meet modern infection prevention protocols critical to newborn survival, recalling the painful loss of his almost twin brother due to infection-related complications.
He said the intervention aligned with Governor Mbah’s vision of transforming healthcare delivery through preventive and patient-centred care, adding that the state government’s investments in hospitals, primary healthcare and medical training had continued to reposition Enugu as a leading healthcare destination.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Bethrand Ngwu, expressed gratitude to Governor Mbah and Dr Jaye for their consistent interventions and support for the hospital, staff and patients.
He said the administration’s investments had significantly improved healthcare delivery and boosted staff morale within the institution.
Prof. Ngwu assured that the newly installed facilities would be properly maintained and maximally utilised for the benefit of residents, particularly newborns and vulnerable patients requiring specialised care, while pledging the hospital’s continued commitment to quality healthcare services. source

Governor Mbah showcases achievements, promises more as he’s officially declared Enugu APC guber candidate for 2027
...Says 'Tomorrow is Here' mantra no longer abstract expression
...Panel: Enugu APC model for internal democracy Governor Peter Mbah has saluted the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) faithful for his resounding election as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2027 general election, highlighting progress made under his stewardship and promising more to the state.
He stated this in his acceptance speech at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, on Friday, as the Hon. Danmalikin Hausa-led Enugu State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee concluded the collation of results of the exercise that saw 397,370 accredited party faithful participating across the state’s 260 wards on Thursday and formally declared him winner.
“This moment is not one I take for granted. For me, there was never a sense of entitlement. I accept this nomination with full awareness of the expectations that come with it, buoyed by the knowledge that it’s not an unfamiliar path for me,” he stated.
Mbah expressed happiness that his administration totally disproved the notion that campaign promises could never be kept, saying the “Tomorrow Is Here,” which underscores his governance philosophy had moved from the abstract to a reality.
“What once felt distant – that tomorrow could be different – is no longer abstract. It is taking shape.
“It is visible in the routines of daily life, in how people travel, how they work, and how they now access services that were once unreliable or out of reach.
“We have smashed the notion that promises matter more than performance. Every naira spent has been made to give the people of Enugu a return on their investment of trust and faith,” he said.
Continuing, the governor reeled out his administration’s achievements across various sectors.
“Today, events are scheduled on Mondays without the least apprehension. Through our Command and Control Centre and other modern security infrastructure, we have effectively restored citizens’ faith in the state’s capacity to protect them.
“Through our ward-based Smart Green Schools, learning has become fit-for-purpose, offering our children education that guarantees them a place in a fast-changing world.
“With at least one Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centre in each of our 260 Wards, we have ensured that location is no longer a hindrance to quality healthcare.
“Across our rural communities, crop yield is rising as the rev of tractors increasingly replaces backbreaking tasks like ridging and tilling once done with hoes and cutlasses.
“Across our towns and cities, opportunities are emerging as decades-long moribund industries roar back to life.
“Until a few months ago, the Songhai Heneke Farm in Ezeagu was a desolate project. The story is different today.
"The United Palm Products Limited has risen from its moribund past to become a viable venture – offering job opportunities to the youth.
“The Enugu Haier Factory, a $20 million investment facility that manufactures digital appliances and electronics, also comes to mind.
“Jobs in the aviation sector that once felt out of reach no longer feels so for our youths with the launch of Enugu Air.
“Our sons and daughters will soon be able to fly to major cities of the world from here.
“We have done over 1,500 kilometres of roads, launched five world-class Transport Terminals and CNG buses to ensure that our people commute in dignity and comfort.”
“Beyond the state, Enugu is becoming the standard bearer for sustainable governance, innovative development, and quality of life,” he asserted.
The governor equally acknowledged that President Bola Tinubu’s bold policies contributed immensely to the successes by making more resources available to states to invest in development.
Meanwhile, primary election panel Chairman, Hon. Hausa, has commended Mbah and party leaders for the peaceful
and credible primary elections in the state.
“Enugu State APC is a well-coordinated chapter where internal democracy, consensus-building, discipline, synergy and peace reign supreme. The whole exercise has been rancour-free and indeed a carnival of sorts,” he added.

Properties › Enugu Housing Corporation Launches Digital Land Transactions by Tabithatim(op): 7:31am On May 22 |
…as Mbah moves to deepen transparency, fast-track C-of-O issuanceThe Enugu State Government has launched a fully digitized land transaction and documentation system for the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation (ESHDC) as part of Governor Peter Mbah’s ongoing reforms aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, efficiency, and investor confidence in the state’s land administration sector.
The digital transformation initiative, officially unveiled during the commissioning of the corporation’s digitized office operations and workflow system in Enugu, is expected to revolutionize land documentation, payment processing, records management, and issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O), while eliminating delays and irregularities associated with manual procedures.
Speaking at the event, Governor Mbah said the initiative was in line with the administration’s broader vision of building a modern, technology-driven public service architecture capable of supporting investment and sustainable urban development.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, stressed that the digitization project reflects one of the core governance philosophies of the administration, which prioritizes transparency, traceability, accountability, and seamless service delivery.
According to him, the state government recognized that for Enugu to emerge as a preferred investment destination, investors and property owners must have confidence in the integrity and reliability of government processes.
“What we are doing today is a reminder that the governance principles set out by our administration are demonstrable. Technology is one of the key enablers to ensure accountability, transparency, and improved service delivery,” he stated.
He noted that the digital platform would enable residents and investors to verify property documents electronically, conduct land searches with ease, and confidently use their property documents as collateral for financial transactions.
The governor further commended the staff of the Housing Development Corporation for embracing reforms and aligning with the administration’s transformation agenda, describing the initiative as “a change in the culture of how government business is done.”
Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Barr. Chimaobi Okorie, said the digitization exercise was an offshoot of Governor Mbah’s campaign promise to modernize land administration in line with Sustainable Development Goal 15, which promotes the sustainable use of land resources.
He recalled that shortly after assuming office, the governor signed the Enugu State Geographic Information Systems (ENGIS) Law to provide legal backing for the digitization of the state’s land administration framework.
“What we are witnessing today is a continuation of that vision. The Housing Development Corporation, being a commercial arm of government, is aligning with the digital standards already being implemented across the state,” he said.
Okorie explained that the new digital process would guarantee document security, eliminate incidences of missing files, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen stakeholder confidence in the housing sector.
He added that the reform would also boost internally generated revenue and support ongoing efforts to bridge the housing deficit in the state through increased private sector participation and estate development.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, Nnaemeka Ani, described the initiative as evidence of Governor Mbah’s commitment to e-governance and digital transformation.
According to him, the Housing Development Corporation can now process land documentation digitally, receive payments electronically, and integrate seamlessly with the state’s Geographic Information Systems platform.
“Today, Enugu State is fast becoming the centre of e-governance in Nigeria because we have a digital governor. What we are seeing here today is part of the governor’s deliberate effort to transform how government works for the benefit of the people,” he added.
A major highlight of the project was the role played by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Revenue, Adenike Okebu, whose office coordinated the transition process and implementation framework for the digital migration.
Okebu, who was credited with driving extensive digital and financial audits across the corporation to ensure transparency, accountability, and operational readiness before deployment of the system, hailed the governor for supporting the digital infrastructure that gave birth to the launch.
She said the audit process laid the foundation for the seamless transition from manual to digital operations, assuring that available properties can now be accessed through the portal.
In her remarks, the Director of Administration of the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, Precious Nnaji, described the commissioning as a historic milestone in the corporation’s journey toward modernization and institutional reform.
She said the digitized workflow system would significantly improve communication, data security, document processing, operational coordination, and productivity across departments, while positioning the corporation to meet the growing housing needs of the state.
“This initiative is not merely about computers and technology; it is about creating a smarter, faster, and more responsive corporation capable of meeting the housing and administrative needs of Enugu State,” she said.

Politics › APC Is Model For Internal Democracy - Mbah by Tabithatim(op): 6:35am On May 22 |
Carnival as Enugu APC turns out en masse to affirm Mbah guber candidateEnugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, is poised to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket, as party members turned out en masse across the state's 260 wards on Thursday to participate in the governorship primary election, where he was the sole aspirant.
Although collation was still ongoing as at press time, Mbah looks good to clinch the party's ticket, as members predicated their support for his second tenure on his outstanding performance in the last three years.
At Owo Ward, Nkanu East Local Government Area, where Governor Mbah participated and was received by party faithful in their thousands, the crowd affirmed Mbah’s candidature with a roaring ‘yes’ when the panel comprising Prince Arinze Arum, Mrs. Ngozi Eni, and Barr. Osinachi Nnajieze put the question.
Speaking, the Ward Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Mbah, and Member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, said Mbah’s reelection was sacrosanct for the people of Enugu State, adding that the governor had become a reference point in good governance in Nigeria.
“I have gone to vote in my own ward before coming here. The same thing that is happening here is happening concurrently in the 260 wards across the state and reports are very good. Anyone who knows the state of affairs in Enugu State before you came in would know that a lot of changes have taken place.
“It is not enough to get power. What you use the power for matters more. But Peter Mbah is called the Rock because of how he is using power to do mighty things. Today in Nigeria, you cannot talk about three governors that are performing without counting our own governor among them,” Hon. Nnaji said.
In his remarks, Governor Mbah said the direct primary election in Enugu APC had been a fruitful and unique exercise underlined by internal democracy and the people speaking directly to office seekers.
“Just yesterday (Wednesday), we concluded the direct primaries of all the 24 State Constituencies. It is interesting to note that of those 24 seats, we did not have any two persons that picked forms to vie for one office.
“It is no different with the primary exercises for the Senate and House of Representatives. In fact, in the constituency where we had a second person, in the course of the process, he wrote a letter to the party withdrawing from the contest and pledging his total commitment to support the other candidate.
“Today again, I am the sole aspirant for the governorship ticket of our party. And it has not happened by accident or coercion or cowardice. It happened because our people are not cowardly. It has happened because our people are smart. Our people are wise and they know what is good when they see one.
“So, because we have not created division or disharmony among ourselves, Enugu State APC is largely becoming the standard bearer of what grassroots politics and democracy should be. We are also increasingly becoming a model of how to manage internal politics,” he stated.
He urged party members to remain united going into the 2027 general election in order to record resounding victories.
“This is because once you begin to experience those divisions, implosions, and attrition, then you have already started diminishing your support base, even before you get to the general elections. So, this is why what we have done as a party over the primaries exercises is very, very important,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, all eyes are now on the Hon. Danmalikin Hausa-led APC Committee for the Governorship Primary Election in Enugu State, which also visited several locations to monitor the exercise, to conclude the collation of results and formally announce the outcome, which many expect to confirm Mbah as the APC gubernatorial candidate for Enugu State. Politics › Enugu: Governor Mbah Participates In Owo Ward, Advertises APC’s Achievements by Tabithatim(op): 6:55am On May 17 |
APC commends Enugu Reps primary elections as free, fair and exemplary
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the Enugu State chapter of the party for what it described as free, fair, credible, and exemplary House of Representatives primary elections in the state.
This was even as Governor Peter Mbah joined other party faithful in Owo Ward, Nkanu East LGA, to affirm the Member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, who was the only aspirant standing for the primary election, as the party’s House of Representatives candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Enugu after observing the exercise in Owo Ward and other parts of the state, Chairman of the APC House of Representatives Primary Elections in Enugu State, Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, expressed satisfaction with the process and outcome of the primary elections in the wards monitored firsthand by members of his team, as well as the reports reaching them from various parts of the state.
“One thing is clear: Enugu State APC has continued to stand out as a shining example in internal democracy, party cohesion, consensus-building, and commitment to the party’s success over and above individual interests.
“You were with us at Owo and we have our men in other parts of the state. This is consensus in action. I believe it is the same with other places we have not monitored, based on the reports reaching us.
“But above all, it is leadership in action. I commend the leader of the party in the state, Governor Peter Mbah, as well as the chairman and members of the State Executive, for the peace and synergy we have witnessed,” Hon. Funkekeme said.
Meanwhile, addressing party faithful in his Owo Ward, Governor Mbah thanked them profoundly for the large turnout and for their peaceful conduct across the state.
“What you have seen here today is what you are going to witness across different federal constituencies in Enugu State. There might be just one or two federal constituencies where we may have a contest.
“So, I think that you people should be proud of yourselves because you are becoming a model of what grassroots democracy should be, what internal party democracy should be; and an example of a rancour-free primary exercise where people are coming out in their numbers to support a candidate of their choice, where there is a contest. This is what democracy means. And this is what APC represents for this country,” he stated.
Mbah urged party faithful in the state to come all out to market the achievements and programmes of the APC government at the state and federal levels ahead of the general elections.
“If you also look at what this party has done at the national level, you will see that the pressure and tensions we had at our macroeconomic level have gone. What it means is that the states and the local governments are now able to serve you better, courtesy of the policies and programmes of our great party.
“So, you should be proud of this party and you should make sure that you carry the news, carry the message of what this party is doing for our country to the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
“We have not finished yet. Look at the country. You may only have started seeing the signs. But I can tell you, the foundations have been built. The fundamentals are in place. What Nigerians need to do is to support APC to come back and get the job finished. It is extremely important. We cannot afford to go backwards. We must move forward.
“That is why you cannot afford to stand on the margins. You cannot afford to be passive. You have to be proactive. You have to go from door to door, informing people about what is going on and the benefits supporting APC would bring to our people,” he concluded. source

Politics › Council Of Enugu Town Unions, 583 Communities Endorse Mbah For A Second Term by Tabithatim(op): 7:04am On May 16 |
NEW: Council of Enugu Town Unions, 583 communities endorse Mbah for a second term ...Our job isn’t done yet – Mbah The Enugu State Council of Presidents-General has endorsed the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for a second term in office, citing what they described as his sterling leadership and uncommon transformations across all sectors of the state.
The Council, which represents 583 autonomous communities that make up the state, also endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election, commending him for making more resources available to the states to execute projects that touch the lives of the people, also citing the concession of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the embarkation on strategic projects that would transform the economy of the state and the South East.
They passed the vote of endorsement during a courtesy visit to Mbah at the Government House, Enugu, on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Association, Chief Arinze Ogbodo, extolled Governor Mbah’s inclusive and grassroots-sensitive administration, noting the administration’s adoption of the 260 political wards as the basis for the distribution of democracy dividends.
Ogbodo cited the construction of 267 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, 260 Farm Estates, improved security through the government’s investment in high-tech infrastructure, revival of moribund assets, and many ongoing and completed road projects opening up rural communities.
“Consequently, the Enugu State Council of Presidents-General of Town Unions, on behalf of the 583 autonomous communities in Enugu State, unanimously adopts you for a second term in office as the Governor of Enugu State in recognition of your outstanding performance, transformational leadership, and unwavering commitment to the development of Enugu State.
“In the same vein, we equally hereby adopt President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.
“We shall mobilise grassroots support for both your re-election and that of the President through our structured organs from the state level to senatorial zones, Local Government Areas, and communities,” the body declared.
Speaking, Mbah, while thanking the community leaders for their profuse appreciation of his government’s efforts, promised to do even more, noting that more work remained to be done to position Enugu as the number one state in Nigeria and an economic giant.
The governor observed that no single project or programme of the government was a knee-jerk decision, saying that the transformations being witnessed in the education, health, agriculture, transport, tourism, and security sectors, as well as infrastructure, were all interconnected towards growing the state from a $4.4bn to a $30bn economy by 2031.
“What this endorsement has done is that you have imposed further obligations on us. You told us to go and finish this job. You must have observed that what we have done is simply to build the fundamentals, to lay the foundations, and to get ready.
“But even with just building these fundamentals and the foundations, you can see that the profile of Enugu is rising daily. Enugu has become a model of good governance. That is essentially what you have come here this afternoon to endorse.
“This is beyond politics. What you are saying to us this afternoon is that you cannot politicise the future of our children,” he stated. source

Peter Mbah Orders 105 Tractors From Nortra Tractor AAssembly The Enugu Nortra Tractor Assembly Plant at Park Avenue, GRA, Enugu, marks a major shift in the transformation of agriculture in Enugu State, from outdated tools and practices to modern, mechanised systems.
When Governor Peter Mbah assumed office, he met virtually zero functional tractors. In response, he ordered the procurement of 1,000 tractors from Nortra to drive agricultural reform.
Today, 105 tractors are already in use on farms across the state, while the rest are being assembled locally at this brand new facility.
With a production capacity of 10 tractors per day, the plant is supported by a fully equipped service and repair centre, ensuring durability, efficiency, and continuity in operations.
It also houses a training institute, where technicians are being trained to operate, manage, and maintain the tractors, equipping young people with new skills for modern agricultural production and machinery maintenance.
The facility is also designed to support the 260 Enugu Farm Estates being established across the state, enabling structured, large-scale commercial farming from Uzo-Uwani to Aninri, Ezeagu to Isi-Uzo, and Nkanu East to Igbo-Eze North.
But beyond meeting the needs of Enugu State, the plant is also strategically positioned to serve other states in the region, as well as private sector farmers and agricultural investors, making Enugu a regional hub for agricultural mechanisation.
Backed by international partnership, the Nortra Assembly Plant is a foreign direct investment from Denmark, further signalling Enugu’s growing reputation as a destination of choice for industrial and agricultural investment. source

Niger’s military government has suspended nine French media organisations, accusing them of threatening public order and national security in the West African nation.
The decision, announced on Friday by Niger’s media regulator, the National Observatory of Communication, has drawn criticism from international press freedom groups, including Reporters Without Borders (RSF), which condemned the action as an attack on independent journalism.
Among the affected media outlets are France 24, Radio France Internationale (RFI), France Afrique Média, LSI Africa, AFP, TV5 Monde, TF1 Info, Jeune Afrique, and Mediapart.
According to the regulator, the suspension was aimed at preserving peace, social cohesion, and institutional stability. Authorities alleged that the media organisations repeatedly aired reports capable of disrupting public order and weakening the morale of the country’s defence and security forces.
RSF, however, rejected the accusations, describing them as fabricated and politically motivated. In a statement shared on X, the organisation accused the Nigerien authorities of carrying out a coordinated crackdown on press freedom and demanded an immediate reversal of the suspension order.
Niger, alongside neighbouring Mali and Burkina Faso, is currently governed by military juntas that seized power through coups, promising to improve security and restore stability. Since taking over, the three countries have distanced themselves from France and other Western allies while strengthening military ties with Russia.
Despite the juntas’ promises, security challenges across the region have continued to worsen, with extremist attacks escalating in recent months.
Earlier this year, militants attacked an air force base in Niger’s capital, Niamey, killing four soldiers. Following the incident, Niger’s military ruler, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, accused the governments of France, Benin, and Ivory Coast of supporting the attackers, although no evidence was publicly provided.
Observers say military-led governments in Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso have increasingly tightened restrictions on political opposition, civil liberties, and media activities since assuming power.
The Nigerien authorities have yet to state how long the suspension of the French media outlets will remain in effect or provide specific examples of the reports considered offensive. https://applesbite.com/niger-junta-bans-nine-french-media-organisations-over-alleged-threat-to-national-security/

Health › Enugu State Raises Hope On Restoration Of Water To Emene, Idaw River, Agbani by Tabithatim(op): 6:06am On May 11 |
Enugu gov't raises hope on restoration of water to Emene, Idaw River, Agbani Road, others
…As Abakpa residents commend Mbah for restoring water supplyThe Enugu State Government has raised fresh optimism over the restoration of potable water supply to Emene, Idaw River, Agbani Road axis, and other parts of Enugu metropolis, as ongoing rehabilitation of water infrastructure intensifies.
This assurance was given by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, during an inspection visit to Abakpa, following the successful restoration of water supply to the area.
Prof. Onyia, who led the government delivery team alongside engineers of the Enugu State Water Corporation, said the exercise was part of checks to confirm the effectiveness of newly laid high pressure ductile pipes as well as distribution lines and their integration with existing water networks.
Prof. Onyia explained that the water pipelines supplying Abakpa were among the public utility infrastructure affected by the expansion and dualisation of the Abakpa – Opi Nsukka Road.
He noted that the old asbestos pipes were excavated and replaced with more durable and safer ductile iron pipes, capable of withstanding the pressure from increased water production and transmission.
He reaffirmed that the administration of the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, remains committed to its promise of restoring sustainable and equitable water supply across all parts of the metropolis.
According to him, the inspection in Abakpa confirmed that water has successfully returned to the axis, with visible flow recorded in multiple locations and residential buildings.
“We started our inspection, our final inspection after the pipes have been laid; the distribution lines and those connecting residential areas. What we have noticed today is that the test of water coming back into Abakpa was successful,” he said.
He, however, explained that some sections recorded high water pressure, resulting in leakages, which have already been documented for immediate technical correction by the Water Corporation team.
“We can see areas where the pressure is so high that pipes are leaking. The Water Corporation is taking notes, and those will be repaired,” he added.
The SSG further said the team conducted physical verification inside residential flats to ensure actual household access to water, noting that in several cases, residents were surprised and excited to see water flowing again from their taps after a prolonged period of scarcity.
“We went into residences to confirm water availability. In some cases, residents didn’t even know water had returned until they opened their taps, and there was jubilation,” he said.
Prof. Onyia stated that similar validation exercises would soon extend to Emene and other parts of the metropolis, adding that stakeholders would be invited to witness live testing of the system as restoration progresses.
He explained that the government’s ongoing water sector reforms include the replacement of old asbestos pipelines with modern ductile iron pipes, expansion of distribution networks, and the systematic restoration of supply to both densely populated and previously underserved communities.
Areas currently in focus, he said, include Emene, Trans-Ekulu, Idaw River, Meniru, and Agbani Road axis, alongside continued stabilisation of supply in Abakpa and surrounding communities.
“What we are trying to do is ensure that densely populated areas are fully restored. We have completed the flushing of lines in some areas, and very soon we will extend operations towards Meniru down to Agbani Road,” he stated.
He further reported progress in parts of Uwani, including Robinson Street, Kenyatta Street, and sections of Zik Avenue, where tap-and-drop connections have already been completed to enable direct household supply.
Prof. Onyia emphasized that the administration operates a strict validation mechanism requiring physical inspection of all reported outputs before official confirmation, in line with the governor’s performance driven governance model.
“This government has not rested. The water task-force set up by His Excellency engages contractors and the Water Corporation to verify claims with evidence. Our job is to validate what is on the ground,” he said.
He added that intermittent shutdowns observed in some areas were part of planned technical interventions to fix bursts and restore optimal pressure across the system.
“When we have major bursts, we shut down lines, fix them, and restore service. That is what you are seeing,” he explained.
Prof. Onyia assured that once ongoing transmission and distribution upgrades are completed, most parts of Enugu metropolis, from Independence Layout through Abakpa to Gariki and Idaw River, will enjoy sustained and reliable water supply.
He reiterated that the restoration of water remains a priority of the Mbah administration’s infrastructure renewal agenda, anchored on delivering measurable and people-focused outcomes.
Meanwhile, residents of Abakpa have continued to express appreciation to the administration of Governor Mbah for restoring water supply to the area after a long period of scarcity.
Many described the development as a major relief, noting that access to potable water has not only eased daily living but also significantly improved hygiene and overall household wellbeing.
Mrs. Gladys Ugwu, a resident of Atani Street, hailed the governor as a leader who keeps his promises, stating that the restoration of water has renewed public confidence in government.
“We have suffered for a long time without water, buying from vendors at high cost. Today, water is running again in our homes. Governor Mbah has shown that he is a promise keeper, and we will continue to support him because we have confidence in his capacity to do a lot more for us,” she said. https://x.com/i/status/2052806038974279803

state because there was no way we would have moved emergency interventions into the market.
“But you may already have noticed that we just started doing some shops there to bring back those people who were affected. And we are also going to give those directly affected seed capital to restart their trades,” he stated to loud applause.
Mbah, however, did not conclude without pooh-poohing political detractors, who refer to him derisively as a potential “one-term governor” while simultaneously campaigning for a single term for themselves.
“Someone said to me, ‘you are only going to be a one-term governor.’ Then the same person turns around and tells Ndi Enugu, ‘give me a chance, I am only going to serve one term.’
“Is it not counter-intuitive? Can you diminish one-term government and then come to lie to the people to give you one term?” he queried.
“Enugu is at the brink of a historic turning point. Enugu’s profile is rising. Enugu is that model of good governance in the country today. And, please, do not let anyone steal what trust has built,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Mbah has described the 52.2km Nguru - Lejja - Aku - Akpakume - Nze - Egede - Affa - Eke road as a major economic enabler and corridor. Flagging off the project earlier, he said, “There is no better enabler or key enabler than roads that will connect communities and connect people to opportunities. That is what we are doing. The stretch of this road is 52.2km, but if you then add the other roads like Amachara to Barracks, from Mechanic Village, and many others like that, we are doing about 70 kilometers,” he stated.
Other speakers at the Nsukka Zone mega rally include the Chairman of Nsukka LGA, Engr. Jude Asogwa; Chairman, Organising Committee, Chief Ikeje Asogwa; former Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Dr. Dan Shere; Patron, City Boy Movement, Chief Charles Mbah; APC Zonal Woman Leader, Dr. Oby Ajih; former Speaker, Hon. Eugene Odoh; CEO of Ferotex Construction Company Limited, Engr. Festus Oshaba; Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu; and APC chieftain, Chief Vita Abbah.

“Others have been appointed and are serving in federal MDAs, including Mr Peter Eze, Engr. Ogboo Asogwa, Engr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede,” he stated.
Also, the Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Ezenta Ezeani, in another motion seconded by Hon. Chukwuma Ekwueme (Uzo-Uwani State Constituency), observed that Mbah had “demonstrated uncommon leadership, improved security architecture, and massive infrastructural transformation across urban and rural communities.”
He listed critical infrastructure such as the ongoing dualisation of the Enugu – Opi Nsukka Road, upgrade of the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS) at Igbo-Eno, 102 of the 260 Smart Green Schools, and 102 of the 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, among other interventions by Mbah.
“These are not promises. These are visible, measurable realities. Leadership is not judged just by intentions, but by outcomes. And when a leader delivers, continuity becomes not just desirable, but necessary. Interrupting it now would be like abandoning a harvest halfway through the season,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Mbah, who described the turnout as massive, commended the people for endorsing Tinubu, stressing that gratitude is the mother of all virtues.
“Let me take you three years back. You told us you wanted your own as the Vice Chancellor of UNN. So, your endorsement of the President matters because he was the leader who broke this 65-year-old jinx. That is why January 2027 matters,” he declared.
Mbah said he was on course to transforming Nsukka into an economic engine and a viable education centre capable of retaining her products.
He reassured that the dualisation of the Enugu - Ugwogo Nike - Opi Nsukka Road, the major artery into Enugu North and a gateway into northern Nigeria, would be commissioned by October 2026.
According to him, the projects are part of a larger strategy to move Enugu from a $4 billion economy to a $30 billion economic powerhouse within eight years.
“Let me tell you what to expect in the next four years. We are going to move Nsukka from being just a large district on the map to the engine of the new enormous economy.
“We have concluded the feasibility studies, and we are soon going to start the construction of a 135.5km rail line. It is going to integrate the state’s economy and ease the movement of goods and services.
“It will cover several parts of Enugu, including Ugwuoba, 9th Mile, Enugu City, Nsukka, and Obollo Afor,” he said.
He said that impossibilities did not exist as far as his administration was concerned.
“You know the typical thing is that when we made promises, we were almost always scoffed at by skeptics. We were told this was overambition, this is not possible. But I think we have proven skeptics wrong. We have shown that impossibility does not exist in our dictionary. Where there is a will, there is a way,” Mbah asserted.
He, however, stated that his government had determined from the outset to grow the state’s economy from $4.4bn to $30bn, “but not at the expense of our humanity.”
He took time to explain that the steps he took on Ogige Market, Nsukka, were borne out of genuine concern and the need to prevent avoidable human tragedies in emergency situations, stressing that “it is extremely important that you know that everything we do, the people are the centrepiece of it. It is not about posturing and not about politics.”
“I know we were misunderstood when we undertook to remodel the Ogige Market. But imagine what it would have looked like if I transformed Ogbete or Holy Ghost with two modern terminals - the interstate terminal and the intrastate terminal - and I did nothing about Ogige Market. How could that have been interpreted?
“We saw Ogige Market as a keg of gunpowder. We were sitting on a keg of gunpowder. If we did not do anything and we had an emergency situation in that market, questions would have been asked if we had government in this

...Donates N102m for Mbah’s nomination form
...Mbah flags off 52.2km Nguru - Lejja - Aku - Akpakume Nze - Egede - Affa - Eke Road, others_
...Vows to transform Nsukka zone into an economic engine
...Promises seed money to Ogige traders
...Trashes opponents’ one-term promise as ‘counter-intuitive’Leaders, stakeholders, and people of Enugu North Senatorial District (Nsukka Zone) have endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for a second term in office, citing measurable realities and numerous outcomes of their governments.
The zone, comprising six of the 17 local government areas of Enugu State - Nsukka, Igboeze North, Igboeze South, Udenu, Uzo Uwani, and Igbo Etiti - also presented a cheque for the sum of N102 million for Mbah’s reelection nomination form.
They said the Tinubu and Mbah administrations had made unprecedented positive contributions to the growth and development of the zone, listing critical infrastructural transformations and Prof. Simon Ortunaya’s appointment as the first indigenous Vice Chancellor 65 years after the founding of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
This was even as Governor Mbah officially flagged off several road projects totaling about 70km, including the 52.2km Nguru - Lejja - Aku - Akpakume Nze - Egede - Affa - Eke road, and vowed to transform the zone into an economic engine.
Mbah equally promised to support Ogige Market traders with seed money to stabilise their businesses after the remodeling, reiterating that his earlier intervention was with the best intentions to prevent avoidable tragedies.
Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; former governor, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Samuel Asadu; Chairman of the rally organising committee, Chief Ikeje Asogwa; thought leaders, youths, and women groups declared their total support for Tinubu and Mbah during a mega endorsement rally at Nsukka Township Stadium on Saturday.
In an endorsement proceeding presided over by former federal legislator, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, the people unanimously endorsed the President, observing that with the President’s partnership with Mbah, “we who were once far off have been brought near and integrated into the mainstream of the Nigerian project, with all its benefits.”
This was sequel to a motion proposed by the House Member representing Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, Hon. Dennis Agbo, and seconded by Hon. Mark Obetta (Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency).
Hon. Agbo listed the resumed funding and ongoing construction of the Oturkpo – Obollo Afor – 9th Mile Enugu Expressway, Enugu – Port Harcourt dual carriageway, expedited work on the Enugu – Onitsha Federal Expressway, the successful concession of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, the creation of the South East Development Commission, and the recent promise to accelerate work on the Port Harcourt – Enugu rail line as part of the grounds for Tinubu’s endorsement.
“Oha Nsukka also noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made it possible for our state to be connected to the National Gas Grid to unleash our buoyant gas resources and ultimately confirm our status as an oil-producing state for full derivation advantage,” he said.
They added that Tinubu had addressed the decades of marginalisation and exclusion suffered by the South East by appointing several sons of Enugu State and Nsukka into prominent positions Ndigbo were hitherto excluded from.
“Our brother, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, is the current Chief of the Air Staff. Major General Evaristus Ifeanvi Okoro is the current Military Secretary (Army). Major General Valentine Okoro is the current Head of Training (Army). Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla (Rtd.) is the immediate past Chief of the Naval Staff, while Mr Frank Mbah just retired as Deputy Inspector General of Police. source

Politics › Governor Mbah Pledges Support For Air Force 0fficers' Wives Association by Tabithatim(op): 1:25pm On Apr 30 |
Governor Mbah pledges support for Air Force Officers' Wives Association, commits to social welfare partnership
Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has commended the Nigerian Air Force Officers' Wives Association (NAFOWA) for its impactful humanitarian and empowerment initiatives, assuring of the state government’s support.
Governor Mbah gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving the National President of NAFOWA, Mrs. Ngozi Aneke, and her delegation on a courtesy visit to the Government House, Enugu.
He said the association’s work in welfare, empowerment, and community development aligned with his administration’s social development agenda.
“We are a state that prioritises social services. In the last three budget cycles since we assumed office, I do not think there's any state that has invested in human capital as much as we have done. We committed 30 per cent of our budget to education and over 15 per cent to health in the last three budget cycles.
"We are intentional about humanitarian services and social interventions because we believe that as a state, we are only as strong as our weakest link and part of our commitment is to eradicate poverty,” he said.
The governor noted an alignment between NAFOWA’s objectives and the state government's focus on women empowerment, skills development, and humanitarian interventions.
He assured the association of government’s support, particularly in establishing institutions for children with special needs.
“We are pleased with your outreach here in Enugu. On the proposed institution for special needs children, we will work with you to ensure it becomes a reality,” he added.
Earlier, Mrs. Aneke thanked the governor for the warm reception, describing him as a visionary leader driving purposeful development in the state.
“A lot has changed in Enugu since your administration. I have witnessed tremendous growth under your visionary leadership. I have seen a lot of changes and I know you will keep doing well. You are transforming the state, and I urge everyone to visit Enugu,” she said.
Mrs. Aneke, who is the wife of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, sought the state government’s support and collaboration in establishing an institution for children with special needs.
On the mission of NAFOWA, she said it focuses on promoting unity among members, supporting the Nigerian Air Force, and delivering humanitarian services to host communities.
According to her, the association’s interventions are built on three pillars, namely education, healthcare, and empowerment, covering support for orphans and widows of fallen heroes, medical outreach, and skill acquisition programmes for women. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18n468ZMrX/

Politics › Security Experts Hail Enugu's Security Investment, Urge Other States To Do Same by Tabithatim(op): 7:17am On Apr 28 |
Security experts hail Governor Mbah's security investment, urge other states to emulate Enugu
Security personnel and experts drawn from various security and paramilitary agencies have hailed Enugu State Government’s heavy investment in security, calling on other states to emulate the state.
The experts and security personnel were members of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 19 of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja, who paid a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah today at Government House, Enugu.
Team Lead, Olalekan Fashanu, told Mbah that the team was on a study tour of Enugu State in fulfilment of their course, which focuses on “Ethnic Militia and Resource Competition in Africa: Implications for National Security.”
Fielding questions from Government House correspondents, a staff member of NISS, Dr. Olusola Opa-Ola, singled out the ultramodern Enugu State Command and Control Centre with accompanying AI-enabled cameras mounted across the state for praise, saying it is a very potent infrastructure for fighting insecurity.
“We have come here on a study tour in Enugu State. We are happy with what we have seen so far. We are impressed, especially in the area of security.
“With the command and control they have installed, which has assisted them in so many ways in curbing insecurity and in identifying grey areas, and which is a major factor that enables them to achieve these great lengths that they have achieved.
“We hope other states can come around, copy this type of command and control that they have established here. It has assisted them to nip crime in the bud. Other states around here or even in the federation can copy this kind of security investment.
“It would help us to have fewer problems of insecurity nationwide. The Federal Government will be less in charge, while the state governments can do a lot with political will.”
He also called for greater collaboration among all tiers of government and agencies in charge of security.
“One agency cannot do it alone, and one state cannot do it alone except by collaboration,” he stated.
On his part, Governor Mbah said there was no way his administration could actualise its vision to grow the state’s economy from $4.4bn to $30bn without tackling the huge security challenges inherited at its inception.
He said his administration would continue to prioritise the security of lives and property, and commended the security agencies for their cooperation in restoring the confidence of investors and residents in the capacity of government to secure them.
Governor Mbah observed that Nigeria is one of the most blessed countries on earth, urging the team to interrogate what he described as the "tragedy of the commons," which he said was the real bane of resource optimisation in Nigeria.
"I think we are actually blessed with more resources than we actually need, but the challenge is this tragedy of the commons, which is determining who the owners of the resources are because if we are not able to identify who the real owner is, then we are unable to invest to optimise them. You are unable to spend without taking full ownership. So, we need to have a structure to optimise those resources.
"I think the idea of your studies is for you to come back and teach us and let us learn from your research. It will help you to interrogate some of these things, whether we are really suffering from resource competition or the tragedy of the commons," the governor concluded. source

Politics › Enugu Ohanaeze Endorses Mbah's Re-Election, Extolls Tinubu’s South East Agenda by Tabithatim(op): 7:22am On Apr 27 |
...As Mbah calls for strategic alliances, cautions against tiny political kingdomsOhanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State chapter, on Saturday, endorsed Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for a second term in office, citing his visionary, pragmatic, and transformative leadership, urging stakeholders and the people to rally round him.
Rising from a well-attended expanded stakeholders meeting held at the iconic Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s strategic projects, interventions, and appointments in the South East in general and Enugu State in particular.
The meeting during which Ohanaeze handed the Ofo (symbol of authority and justice) to Mbah, brought together leaders of thought, traditional rulers, market leaders, professionals, youth and women groups as well as Presidents-General of Town Unions.
They include the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, and the President-General of the body, Senator Joahn Azuta-Mbata, represented by Livingstone Wechie, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Rivers State, who both hailed Mbah’s transformative leadership and endorsed his re-election.
Ohanaeze said Mbah’s leadership had “demonstrated a clear commitment to infrastructural development, economic revitalisation, security enhancement, and human capital development across the state.”
The organisation equally predicated the governor’s endorsement on “sustained observance of the unwritten but respected zoning arrangement of the governorship seat in Enugu State since 1999” to foster equity, unity, and political stability among the constituent zones.
“In recognition of his outstanding performance, strategic vision, and commitment to the continued progress of Enugu State, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State Chapter, unanimously endorses Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as the sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State,” it stated.
Mrs. Ojukwu, on her path, described Mbah as a visionary reconstructing Enugu for the future and prosperity.
“Your name is Peter, and upon this rock the progress, development, and future of Enugu State is built; and that tomorrow is here. We look forward to four more years of visionary leadership," Mrs. Ojukwu said.
The meeting further reviewed national developments and acknowledged the Tinubu’s ongoing efforts toward economic reforms, infrastructural development, and national stability.
They cited the successful concession of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport; approval of extension of the national gas pipeline to Enugu to unlock the state’s gas reserves; ongoing reconstruction of Enugu-Port Harcourt and Enugu – Onitsha highways, the 700-metre flyover at Eke Obinagu to the ongoing dualisation of the Enugu–Abakaliki road by Governor Mbah and the speedy reconstruction of the New Artisan dual carriage Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.
They also noted that whereas no Igbo son or daughter was considered fit to head any military or paramilitary agency in the eight years preceding Tinubu, the President consecutively appointed Enugu sons - Air Marshal Sunday Aneke and Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla (Rtd.) as Chief of the Air Staff and Chief of the Naval Staff, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Vice President-General of Ohanaeze representing Enugu State, Prof. Fredrick Eze, said Mbah’s endorsement aligned with the core mandates of the apex Igbo organisation, which includes “to provide good leadership to Igbo people by identifying the credible paths to their progress.”
“Therefore, this special occasion perfectly fits into the core mandates of Ohanaeze. We will not shy away from telling our people the truth,” Prof. Eze emphasised.
The President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State Chapter, High Chief Uche Obisi, commended Mbah for inclusive governance in healthcare, education, infrastructure, security, transportation and agriculture, which is transforming the rural communities.
Responding, Governor Mbah commended Ohanaeze for not only endorsing him, but also for acknowledging the President’s efforts in Enugu and the South East, saying the onus was on every Igbo elite to rise above narrow self-interest and invest in bridges that would serve future generations.
“The Enugu chapter of Ohanaeze has not only endorsed me as their son, but they are extending that trust beyond the Niger. They have asked me to convey their appreciation and goodwill to the president.
“This is very remarkable and strategic. We must not miss the gravity of this occasion. It is also a demonstration that Ohaneze Ndigbo, Enugu chapter, is willing to think beyond its circles, to think beyond today, and to think strategically,” he stated.
Continuing, he said, “We are not people known for short-term reaction. We have always been known for strategic thinking. I am glad that the Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev Samuel Obiajulu Ike, mentioned copiously the late Michael Okpara, a leader par excellence whose legacies are still a heartwarming reference point to date.
“But when it became necessary as a leader of National Council for Nigerian Citizens, NCNC, in 1964 to have a handshake across the Niger, Michael Okpara did not hesitate. He forged an alliance with the Action Group, which birthed the United Progressive Grand Alliance, UPGA.
“So we have forbears, who knew when it was necessary to think strategically and make the right decision, not for building tiny kingdoms. They were driven by common interests, common purpose, and the future of Ndigbo, not selfish interest.”
He assured that he would continue to live up to the trust reposed in him by the people, adding that the Igbo spirit was already finding expression in the over 2,000 ongoing and completed projects and major reforms repositioning the state as a preferred destination for business, investment, tourism, and living that every Igbo would be proud. source

Politics › Enugu–china Direct Flight Possible In The Near Future - Chinese Envoy by Tabithatim(op): 6:55am On Apr 25 |
Chinese envoy hails Mbah’s investment drive, Enugu’s investment opportunities and environment
_…Says Enugu–China direct flight possible in the near futureThe Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, Yan Yuqing, has applauded Governor Peter Mbah’s bold economic vision and investor-friendly policies.
Yuqing described Enugu State as a rising hub of “vitality, livability, and opportunity” with strong prospects for deeper China-Nigeria economic cooperation.
The envoy gave the commendation at Government House, Enugu, where she led a delegation of top executives from leading Chinese companies to a high-level meeting with Mbah.
She said the visit underscored growing bilateral engagement between Nigerian and China, which also spotlighted Enugu’s evolving status as a preferred destination for foreign direct investment, FDI.
The Chinese envoy particularly praised Mbah’s strategic focus on infrastructure, technology, and human capital development, noting that the administration’s blueprint aligns with global best practices and emerging investment trends.
“The governor’s vision for Enugu is both inspiring and practical. His commitment to infrastructure, technology, and human capital development provides a solid foundation for sustainable growth. We are confident that Enugu will become a major destination for Chinese investors.”
This was even as she stated that initial doubts as to possibility of a direct flight from Enugu to China had been cleared, having seen Mbah’s bold vision and efforts in positioning Enugu as an economic and aviation hub.
“So, at that time I thought, a straight flight to China, is it possible? But now, especially after our discussion, I think that it is not a dream. It's a reality. And maybe in the near future, we can realise it,” she said.
According to the Consul General, the relationship between China and Nigeria has continued to strengthen, especially following the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024, expressing optimism that Enugu would play a significant role in advancing this cooperation.
She also highlighted the presence of major Chinese corporations in Nigeria and indicated China’s willingness to expand collaboration in key sectors including infrastructure, digital economy, vocational education, and cultural exchange.
Yuqing further revealed that discussions were ongoing regarding possible sister-city agreements between Enugu and select Chinese cities, a development expected to foster closer economic and cultural integration.
She expressed delights at the cleanliness of Enugu city, describing it as quite livable.
Addressing the delegation, Mbah reaffirmed that Enugu remains open and ready for international partnerships, particularly with Chinese investors and airlines.
He emphasised that the state had deliberately created a safe, clean, and business-friendly environment capable of supporting large-scale investments.
“We are open to partnerships with Chinese airlines and investors. Enugu is safe, clean, and business-friendly,” the governor said, adding that ongoing reforms were designed to ensure ease of doing business and long-term returns for investors.
He further disclosed that plans were already underway to establish direct international flight routes between Enugu and major Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, as part of broader efforts to deepen trade and economic exchanges.
“With the concessioning of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and our plan to build a modern cargo terminal, direct flights from Enugu to China are possible within a shorter time. This will significantly enhance trade, logistics, and investment flows,” Mbah stated.
The governor described the New Enugu Smart City as a flagship initiative aimed at redefining urban living and investment standards in Nigeria.
According to him, the project would feature world-class infrastructure, including underground electricity systems, central sewage networks, fiber-optic connectivity, piped water, and gas pipelines.
In a move to further strengthen cultural and economic ties, Mbah proposed the establishment of a Chinatown District in Enugu, assuring the Chinese delegation of government support, including land allocation and policy backing.
“We expect major Chinese companies to site their headquarters here and operate from Enugu. Our relationship with China is warm and expanding, and we want to deepen it through concrete investments,” he said.
The governor also highlighted ongoing collaboration between Chinese firms and the Nigerian government, particularly the role of CCCC in the construction of Enugu Smart City and the CCECC in rail infrastructure development.
Beyond infrastructure, Mbah pointed to successful industrial partnerships already taking root in the state, citing the example of the Haier Group, which partnered with the Enugu State Government to establish manufacturing facility in Enugufor producing digital devices, solar equipment, and household appliances.
According to him, the partnership goes beyond production to include technology transfer and workforce development, with local technicians being trained to take over operations in the near future.
He assured investors of the government’s readiness to continue to de-risk investments and provide the necessary support to ensure profitability and growth. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BTFojaMQa/

Politics › Tinubu Commends Mbah’s Development Strides by Tabithatim(op): 5:31am On Apr 23 |
With transformative leaders like you, Nigeria of our dream is achievable, Tinubu tells Mbah
... Commends Mbah’s development strides
.. Says FG to speed-up work on PH-Enugu rail line
... As Mbah declares Enugu’s support for Tinubu’s re-electionPresident Bola Tinubu has commended the governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, for his development strides in Enugu State, saying that with leaders like the governor, a new Nigeria of the people’s dream is possible.
This was even as Governor Mbah declared total support of the people of Enugu Stats for the president come 2027.
Tinubu spoke when he received an Mbah-led delegation of Enugu State leaders, who were on an appreciation visit to him at the Executive Council Chambers of the Aso Presidential Villa on Tuesday.
“The work you are doing is extremely important for our democracy to grow and for people to flourish. The future of this country rests on people like you with commitment, great vision, and seriousness that you have embarked upon since you assumed the office. “I thank you very much on behalf of the country, the great people of this nation, and Enugu State in particular.
“You have been a transformative leader, and we genuinely appreciate what is evolving in Enugu today in a manner that we have witnessed a rapid development of the state.
“I can assure you that we will continue to work together, think together, and build together a nation that will be a proud place for all our citizens," he said.
The President urged Governor Mbah to remain focused on the job and ignore distractors.
“Democracy will survive despite all the intimidations. I ignore, and I will advise you—as I will advise myself—stay focused. When you are succeeding and they are angry, leave them in their corner. Stay focused and believe in yourself, as you have been doing. Don't pay attention to them, because I will not. We stay in our lanes. We stay focused.
“Nigeria of our dream is achievable, and we will definitely build that together. We will not let you down. We will continue to work hard. It is not easy, but we are navigating the rough waterways. We will land this ship very well to steady Nigeria and bring prosperity to our economy,” Tinubu stated.
The President also promised to expedite action on the Port Harcourt – Enugu rail line and other infrastructure to enhance economic growth in the South East region, harping on team work and sustainable funding to grow the nation’s economy.
“We have not embarked upon serious long-term outlook for our country before now. But with people like you—a leader that is so committed, so visionary—Nigeria is on the right trajectory to becoming a very successful, leading African nation.
“But it’s not a one-man orchestra. It’s a collective effort at the national, subnational, and the local government levels,” the President emphasized.
Earlier in his remark, Governor Mbah thanked the president for his inclusive leadership, which had greatly benefitted the people of Enugu State even long before they declared for the ruling party.
He stressed that the president broke a long-standing political distance between this region and the federal government, and crossed party lines when he visited Enugu State to commission projects on January 4, 2025, adding that the visit had since resulted in resolving challenges that had lingered for decades.
“The concessioning of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport means Enugu now has a functioning international gateway, and in doing so, it opens up the Southeast - over 30 million people - to the world.
“With the South East Development Commission, you have established a structure for coordinated regional development.
“The extension of the gas pipeline to Enugu will connect the state to the national gas grid and, critically, unlock our own gas reserves, making power generation viable, and shifting Enugu from sitting on stranded resources to becoming an energy hub for the South East.
“On these bases, we will stand proudly with you on election day in January 2027,” Mbah declared.
He equally appreciated the president for the extensive works on the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway and Enugu Onitsha Expressway, the swift reconstruction of the collapsed New Artisan Bridge, the 700-metre flyover at Eke Obinagu along the Enugu – Abakaliki Expressway, among other interventions by his administration.
He further thanked ths president for demonstrated trust in Enugu people through key national appointments such the position of the Chief of the Air Staff occupied by Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
The high-powered delegation included Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh; Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; former President of the Senate, Senator Ken Nnamani; former Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla; former Governors of Enugu State, Barr. Sullivan Chime and Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo; former Military Administrator of Gombe State, Group Capt Joseph Orji (Retd) and former Military Administrator of Imo State Navy Commodore Anthony Oguguo (Retd).
Others on the delegation were serving and former members of the National Assembly, former ministers, traditional and religious leaders, and academics. Some of the leaders came with their spouses to an event described by the president as one of the remarkable moments in his administration. source

Politics › Enugu West Zone Endorses Tinubu, Mbah For Second Term by Tabithatim(op): 5:23am On Apr 20 |
NEW: Total shutdown as Enugu West Zone endorses Tinubu, Mbah for second term ...Cites critical projects, policies, interventions
...Donates N100m for Mbah’s Nomination Form
...One-term promises a big scam, Ken Nnamani warns
The people of Enugu West Senatorial District have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for a second term in office, citing their policies, projects, programmes, and interventions that have positively impacted the nation, South East, and Enugu State in particular.
To make good on the endorsements, the people, who swarmed the Awgu Local Government Secretariat field in their thousands on Saturday, also presented a cheque for the sum of N100 million to Dr. Mbah for the purchase of his nomination form, vowing to defend their position with their last vote.
This was even as former President of the Senate, Senator Ken Nnamani, dismissed promises by some gubernatorial and presidential aspirants to do just one term, saying they were not being sincere with Nigerians.
Conducting the endorsement process, the lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Senator Osita Ngwu, said their decision was based on conviction informed by evident results rather than sheer politics.
“Today, we can see the best Command and Control Centre to help improve our security in Enugu. We have Smart Schools in every one of our wards. We have seen Type-2 Healthcare Centres. We have seen roads.
“Before now, if you were going to Aguobu Owa through 9th Mile, it would seem like a journey of no return. But now, it takes you only a few minutes. It is the handiwork of Governor Peter Mbah. These are not promises; these are realities; these are dividends of democracy. This is what happens when leadership is bold. No weakness, no excuse, no apologies. Just results.
“At the national level, we have seen the transformational effects of the President. We are benefiting here in the South East and Enugu State in particular. We thank our governor, who was bold and did not delay to connect us to the centre,” Ngwu asserted.
Speaking, former Chief of the Naval Staff/Military Governor of Old Anambra State, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (rtd.), and former Military Administrator of Gombe State, Group Capt. Joseph Orji (rtd.), said they totally aligned with the sentiments expressed by their people in supporting Tinubu’s and Mbah’s re-election.
“The testimonies today are accurate. The people have spoken. All we want to do is to ask you to go back and do more,” Madueke stated.
Also speaking, Senator Ken Nnamani and the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye, urged the people to be wary of those who promise to do one term, insisting they were not promise keepers.
“They will not keep to such promises. Some people tell lies with confidence. You should be careful. As for Enugu State, you have waited for four years, with another four years remaining. But any other candidate apart from Mbah does not guarantee Enugu West’s turn by 2031. Besides, currently on the stage, we have someone with integrity and performance. Even among his colleague governors, he is highly rated. And he is ready to continue to perform,” Nnamani added.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, an obviously elated Governor Mbah commended the people for always standing up for truth and justice like their forebears.
“This rally is of epic proportions. Nothing prepared me for this. You have also become standard bearers for equity, justice, fairness, and unity. You are also showing that you are not lightheaded; that you are strategic,” he stated.
Mbah went on to enumerate his and Tinubu’s projects, programmes, and policies that were turning the fortunes of the people for good.
On Tinubu, he said, “You have shown that you cannot stand on the margins in recognising the programmes, the policies, and the projects that Mr. President has brought to us here in Enugu.
“By this endorsement, you are recognising the positive results of Mr. President’s efforts in the stabilisation of our macro indicators, making sure that our foreign exchange is stabilised; that our inflation rate is trending downwards; that our foreign reserves are growing above the $50 billion mark, and that the states now have enough money to execute massive projects. The local governments in Enugu State are also executing numerous projects that I am being invited almost on a weekly basis to come and commission,” he stated.
He pledged to continue to justify the confidence reposed in him by the people, also assuring them that President Tinubu would not let them down.
Meanwhile, the motion for Tinubu’s endorsement was moved by the House Member representing Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency, Hon. Sunday Umeha, and seconded by the Executive Director (Projects), South East Development Commission, Hon. Toby Okechukwu, while that of Mbah was moved by the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, and seconded by the Member representing Aninri State Constituency, Hon. Magnus Ede.
Others who spoke to throw their support behind the respective constituencies were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh; Chairman, Enugu West Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Godwin Madu; elder statesman, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzu; former Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo; former Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze; Chairman, Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike; CEO of COMAG Construction Company Limited, Chief Cosmas Agu; Chairman of the organising committee, Dr. Charles Egumgbe; former Senator, Ben Collins Ndu; Board member of SEDC, Chief Ugo Agballa, as well as the Chairman of Awgu LGA, Hon. Uchenna Okolo, who spoke on behalf of the chairmen of Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Udi, and Oji River LGAs, which constitute Enugu West Zone. https://x.com/i/status/2045814140317401290

Governor Mbah’s inter-local government road projects are obviously underreported. The Akama Oghe–Aguobu Owa Road branches off from the strategic 44.8 km Ama Brewery–Eke–Oghe–Iwollo–Umulokpa Road, linking Udi, Ezeagu, and Uzo-Uwani LGAs. Mbah is quietly opening up rural and semi-urban areas, linking communities, easing mobility, and driving development across local governments.. Travel › Akanu Ibiam Airport Gets First Ever International Certification by Tabithatim(op): 6:03am On Apr 16 |
Breaking: New dawn as Akanu Ibiam Airport gets first ever international certification ... Enugu State govt hails devt The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued an Aerodrome Certification for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The certificate was presented on Monday at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja following the airport's full compliance with both national and international aviation safety and operational standards.
The Director-General of NCAA, Chris Najomo, described the development as a major achievement, noting that it aligned with the stringent requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Najomo, who was represented by the agency's Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Ahmad Abba, explained that the certification was sequel to a rigorous five-phase evaluation process encompassing detailed inspections of airport infrastructure, airside and landside operations, safety management systems, emergency preparedness, and personnel training.
"The certification of Akanu Ibiam International Airport is a testament to the collaborative efforts between the regulator and the operator. It demonstrates that Nigeria is on track in meeting international aviation safety benchmarks," he said.
He also commended FAAN for its professionalism and sustained cooperation throughout the certification process, describing such collaboration as essential to maintaining consistent safety standards across Nigeria's airports.
Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Adebola Agunbiade, said the certification is a win for the country's aviation sector and acknowledged the contributions of NCAA officials, FAAN technical teams, and other industry stakeholders whose expertise helped deliver a successful outcome.
"This certification is not an end, but a new phase of continuous improvement. We are committed to sustaining global standards and enhancing passenger experience across all our airports," she stated.
Reacting, the Commissioner for Transport, Enugu State, Obi Ozor, described the certification as a boost for the Dr. Peter Mbah administration's vision to grow the state from a $4.4 billion to a $30 billion economy and the target to make Enugu a major aviation hub.
Ozor commended NCAA for its professionalism and stringent certification, saying the development would boost the credibility of the airport in the eyes of international airlines and aviation bodies while also positioning it to attract new international routes.
Meanwhile, an Aerodrome Certificate is an official licence issued by the NCAA that confirms an airport meets all the required safety, operational, and infrastructure standards to legally receive aircraft and passengers.
It is required under ICAO Annex 14, which sets the global standards for aerodrome design, operations, and safety management. Without it, an airport cannot be recognised as being compliant with international aviation law.
The certification is viewed as a new dawn for AIIA, Enugu as it gets its first-ever international certification from NCAA and ICAO.
Founded fifty years ago, this airport has seen continued improvement. The recent concession arrangement of the airport has already begun to bear fruit.
The airport has, over the past few weeks, seen major uplift in its infrastructure, including new CCTV installations, complete security perimeter fencing, signs and signages, firefighting vehicles, among others, leading to this new certification.
This new dawn prepares the airport for extensive commercial expansion by the concessionaire, who envisions handling close to 10 international flights in the near future, as wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 can now land at the airport. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1B4PfcR4om/

Politics › UNESCO Celebrates Mbah’s Smart Schools Initiative, Set To Partner On Trainning by Tabithatim(op): 7:09am On Apr 15 |
UNESCO celebrates Mbah’s Smart Schools initiative, set to partner on strategic training The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has commended the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for what it described as a transformative and forward-looking Smart Schools initiative, pledging strategic partnership with the state in teacher training, digital education development and cultural renaissance of the Igbo heritage.
The commendation was delivered by the Head of the UNESCO Office and Representative in Nigeria, Jean‑Paul Ngome Abiaga, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Enugu on Monday.
Abiaga, who led a high-level delegation, said the global body was impressed by the scale, speed, and vision underpinning the state’s education reforms.
He noted that UNESCO, which places education at the core of its mandate, found strong alignment between its global objectives and the Enugu State government’s aggressive investment in human capital development, particularly the establishment of over 260 Smart Green Schools across the state.
“We came first to appreciate the good work you and your team are doing here in Enugu. Your focus on human capital development is extremely important, and the development of the Smart Schools is remarkable.
"We see strong complementarity between what you are implementing here and UNESCO’s programmes in Nigeria,” he said.
Abiaga disclosed that the visit was part of ongoing engagements aimed at deepening collaboration between UNESCO and Enugu State in critical sectors including education, teacher empowerment, culture, and youth engagement.
He revealed that UNESCO, in partnership with the European Union, was already implementing a $5 million education support programme in six Nigerian states, including Enugu.
He further disclosed that, as part of the plan, UNESCO planned to train no fewer than 2,183 teachers in ICT and digital pedagogy to strengthen capacity and align with the Smart Schools framework.
He emphasised that while infrastructure development was commendable, the real impact would be driven by empowering teachers with the skills required for modern, technology-driven classrooms.
“We believe it will be beneficial to join forces with the state to further develop smart teaching systems, especially focusing on teachers. Equipment and infrastructure must go hand-in-hand with human capital development,” he added.
Beyond education, Abiaga highlighted UNESCO’s interest in promoting and preserving Igbo cultural heritage, noting that the organisation had already supported the National Museum in Enugu with security infrastructure, including surveillance systems, and expressed readiness to expand efforts in documenting and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the region for global recognition.
Responding, Governor Mbah welcomed the UNESCO delegation, describing Enugu as the historic and cultural hub of the Igbo people.
He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to education, noting that over 30 per cent of the state’s budget had consistently been allocated to the sector—far exceeding UNESCO’s recommended benchmark.
“We are unapologetically obsessed with education because we know that our future depends on it,” Mbah stated.
“What we have done is not just about buildings; it is about changing the narrative and equipping our children with the skills needed for the future,” he added.
The governor disclosed that the state had constructed over 7,000 classrooms and established 267 Smart Green Schools strategically located across all political wards to ensure equitable access to quality education, stressing that the initiative goes beyond infrastructure to include curriculum reform, experiential learning, and the integration of cutting-edge technology such as robotics, mechatronics, and 3D printing.
Mbah further explained that the state had shifted from rote learning to experiential education, where students are trained to think critically, solve real-world problems, and innovate from an early age.
He explained that to support this, the government established a Centre for Experiential Learning and Innovation to equip teachers with digital teaching competencies.
He expressed enthusiasm over UNESCO’s proposed teacher training programme, describing it as timely and aligned with the state’s ongoing efforts to build a digitally competent teaching workforce.
On cultural development, the governor highlighted Enugu’s rich historical assets, including heritage sites, caves, waterfalls, and ancient landmarks, calling for UNESCO’s support in designating some of them as World Heritage Sites. He specifically pointed to sites such as the Nsude pyramids and ancient iron-smelting locations as deserving of global recognition.
“We are proud of our heritage and ready to partner with UNESCO to preserve and showcase it to the world,” Mbah concluded . https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18QRHM21xU/

The Enugu State Government has rolled out a new phase of its social intervention programme under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES), targeting no fewer than 3,000 beneficiaries across rural communities in the state.
The initiative, driven by the State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), is designed to improve living conditions at the grassroots through targeted interventions in water supply, sanitation, and small-scale enterprise support, in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to inclusive development.
Speaking at the launch on behalf of the governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the programme was a direct response to prevailing economic realities impacting rural households, stressing that the administration remained deliberate about cushioning hardship and expanding opportunities at the community level.
He explained that the intervention would provide solar-powered water facilities to boost access to clean water, construct hygienic sanitation systems, and deliver financial and material support to enhance livelihoods, adding that community participation would be central to identifying needs and ensuring effective project execution.
Also speaking, the General Manager of CSDA, Mr. Monday Diamond Ani, disclosed that thousands of beneficiaries would receive tools to strengthen their income-generating activities, including Point of Sale (POS) machines and vocational equipment for trades such as tailoring, grinding, and hairdressing.

Politics › No Vacancy – Nnamani, Nwobodo, Awkunanaw Clan Endorse Governor Mbah For 2027 by Tabithatim(op): 4:32am On Apr 13 |
.... We don’t engage in unjust fights – Nnamani
... Mbah the undisputed best hands for Enugu – Jim Nwobodo_
... Nobody can diminish what we’ve done in less than 3 years – Mbah fires back at oppositionThe people of Awkunanaw clan, cutting across several communities in Enugu South and Nkanu West Local Government Areas of Enugu State, have endorsed the governor of the state, Dr. Peter Mbah, for a second term in office come 2027.
The people, who trooped out en masse at the Civic Centre, Akpasha, for a mega rally in support of Mbah on Saturday, also presented him with an Ofo (symbol of authority and justice) saying he had set a record in less than three years that would be difficult for anyone to break in eight years.
They advised any son or daughter of the Awkunanaw clan - Akegbe Ugwu, Obuofia, Amechi, Amodu, Obeagu, Umueze, Akwuke, and Ugwuaji - interested in the state’s governorship seat to perish the thought until the office rotates to Enugu East Senatorial Zone again.
Akegbe Ugwu, Obuofia, Amechi, Amodu, Obeagu, Umueze, Akwuke, and Ugwu Articulating the stand of the mammoth crowd, elder statesman and former President of the Senate, Senator Ken Nnamani, noted that Mbah had become a poster boy for subnational governance in Nigeria.
“We want to make it clear that the people of Awkunanaw are solidly behind Peter Mbah to complete his second term. His good works in Enugu are earning him public acclaim throughout the country.
“The high point of our coming here today is that we want to bequeath him with an Ofo, and it is rarely given. So, nobody in Nkanu land should use Governor Mbah’s remaining four years to play with us.
“Again, if anyone feels he has an issue with him, we are going to settle it indoors as brothers. But the truth remains that we are not going to joke with his second term.
“Besides, Awkunanaw does not go to fight and come back defeated. No! We go into a just fight we will win and be proud that we fought. He has, in barely three years, done what other governors could not do in eight years. That is why we trooped out here en masse to show him explicit support. We are standing tall with him without hiding, and we are ready to defend him everywhere,” Nnamani declared.
Reinforcing Nnamani’s remarks, former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, said, as a forthright people, Awkunanaw clan, having presented the Ofo staff to Governor Mbah, could not renege on their support for him.
Nwobodo, who was represented by the Enugu State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, declared that Mbah remained the best hands for the state come 2027.
“The point is that we have given the Ofo to him, and it is not something you give to two individuals at the same time because our ancestors are also involved, and it is tantamount to endorsing two persons for the same office. So, Mbah is our governorship candidate come 2027,” he declared.
Secretary to Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, reiterated that Mbah had set Enugu as a benchmark for good governance, commending his revolutionary strides across all sectors.
Invoking their ancestors, the traditional rulers of the entire Awkunanaw clan in a process led by HRH Igwe Obi Igwesi, jointly presented an ofo to Mbah, declaring that any Awkunanaw son or daughter, who goes against Mbah’s reelection would be inviting the wrath of their forefathers.
Speaking, Governor Mbah fired back at the opposition, saying no one could diminish or distort the achievements recorded by his administration in less than three years.
“Three years ago, there were no Smart Schools and Type-2 Hospitals in all our political wards; the International Conference Centre, Hotel Presidential, Nigergas, the Enugu United Palm Products Limited, and several other prized assets were still skeletal shells and moribund.
“Three years ago, there was no Enugu Air; no state-of-the-art transport terminals; no CNG buses; and our dear capital city was not the conferencing hub that it has become today,” he stated.
He warned the people of Awkunanaw and Nkanuland against selfish politicians sowing seeds of discord in desperate bids for power to feather their nests.
“We must come together to resist forces of falsehood and division.
“How can you claim to love Nkanu people and yet act in ways that hurt their interests? That tells you one thing: they are driven by selfish interests.
“Besides, could they have recorded even a tiny fraction of what we have achieved so far?” he queried.
Meanwhile, other Awkunanaw leaders at the event include Hon. U.S.A Igwesi, Amb. Gordi Agbo. Hon. Offor Chukwuegbo, Hon. Chimaobi Atu, Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu, Hon. Obiajulu Princess Ugwu, Chief Nwabueze Nnamani, Hon. John Egbo, Dr. Amaka Ngene, Hon. Nwabueze Ugwu, Igwe Dr. Greg Ugwu and other traditional rulers from within and outside the Awkunanaw clan.
Also present were Prof. Oguejiofo Ujam, Hon. Ken Nyamah, Hon. Sam Ngene, Hon. Caleb Ani, among a host of those who spoke to endorse the governor.
Other dignitaries present include Dr. Ben Nwoye, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, Senator Kelvin Chukwu, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, Hon. Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, Barr. Victor Udeh, Hon. Eugene Odoh, Prince Lawrence Ezeh, Hon. Okechukwu Edeh, host Council Chairman - Hon.
