PoliticsPHOTOS: Election Begins Across Nigerian States by Talkcentral(op): 11:18am On Mar 28, 2015

Nigerians have trooped out en mass to exercise their franchise on this epochal day in the history of elections in Nigeria. As at 9:36am accreditation commenced in thousands of pulling units while some are still expecting materials or waiting for the polling officials to set up properly for the process to begin.

In Katsina state, it took Muhammadu Buhari and his wife less than two minutes to get accredited. But in the home state of Goodluck Jonathan, it took him over 20 minutes. The drama was interesting.

So far, Nigerians are doing the needful. Women are taking the lead. Go make Nigeria proud...

PoliticsJega’s Removal Could Derail Polls – Kwara, Osun Govs by Talkcentral(op): 11:33am On Mar 02, 2015

Jega’s removal could derail polls – Kwara, Osun govs

The Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, and his Kwara State counterpart, Abdulfatah Ahmed, have described the plot to remove the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, as dangerous.

Speaking with one of our correspondents on Sunday, Aregbesola said that the plot reflected desperation on the part of the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government.

He said, “It is obvious that they (PDP) are desperate. A desperate person is a dangerous person. This country is bigger than anybody.

“They have postponed elections. They are planning an interim government, they are engaging in all manners of scheming. They are showing acute desperation. With all these undemocratic and uncivil acts, they are leading Nigeria to the path of turmoil.

“The whole world must be told that they must be held responsible for whatever happens to Nigeria. Why can’t they allow the ordered election timetable to go on as planned and, through that, allow democracy to grow in our land?”

Also, Ahmed urged President Goodluck Jonathan to consider the negative impacts the planned removal of Jega would have on the forthcoming general elections.

He warned that the move to remove Jega before the elections could give the impression of attempts to undermine the transparency and credibility of the March 28 and April 11 polls.

He spoke in an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Sunday on the sidelines of the ongoing campaign/consultative meeting with some stakeholders in Kwara State.

The governor reminded the Federal Government to take into cognisance, the attention of the international community, saying that any action to remove Jega would make the general elections lack credibility.

He stated that it would be plausible to allow Jega to conduct the elections whose process he had already started.

Ahmed said, “The sensitivity of the role of Jega in today’s electoral process is so crucial that we cannot handle his exit with levity, especially as the current electoral process is drawing a lot of attention both locally and internationally.

“So, it is very important that we ensure that the right things are done to ensure that this electoral process is allowed to follow its course as encapsulated in the new timetable, both the umpire and the processes are allowed to go on accordingly.

“We are aware that some stakeholders are not comfortable with Jega’s preparedness for the election. We have seen how attempts have been made in picking holes with the current arrangement which has been adjudged to be better than the preparation we had in 2011.

“But be that as it may, the consequence of replacing him is like changing the rules in the middle of the game which I think will affect negatively people’s perception to the seriousness in ensuring a proper electoral process and ultimately good governance in Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption, Senator Victor Lar, on Sunday, clarified that the meeting held by the PDP senators last week in Asokoro, Abuja, did not discuss any issue relating to the fate of Jega.

Lar told one of our correspondents that the meeting was held in the residence of the Senate leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, to discuss how to secure the party’s and Presidency’s support for members.

He said the meeting looked into how the PDP senators would present a common front before the party and President Jonathan so that adequate support would be given to those who are contesting and how those not contesting would be relevant in the next dispensation.

Lar boasted that the PDP senators would beat all their opponents through the ballot and not by trying to cause confusion in INEC.

He said, “There is no such move either among the PDP senators or members of the party in the House of Representatives to set the top officials of INEC against Jega as being alleged by the opposition APC

“By the way, how did the APC know that INEC commissioners have issues with Jega? The APC should not involve itself in self delusion. The party is giving an impression that only Jega can conduct a free and fair poll in the country. It is not true.

“Jega is an appointee of the Federal Government and President Jonathan who reserves the right to remove or retain him, has said he had no plans to sack him before the elections.

“The APC senators should know that they cannot win elections by making grave allegations that have no substance. Majority of the noise makers among them may not even have the Permanent Voter Cards.

“Our meeting held last week not in any hotel but in the residence of the Senate Leader in Asokoro. It did not discuss anything that has to do with Jega but on how to guarantee the continued relevance of our colleagues who are not contesting the National Assembly election.

“The meeting also fashioned out strategies to secure support for the members who are contesting the election on the party’s platform and the Presidency so that they could be victorious.”

PoliticsPresidency May Remove Jega This Week - Saharareporters by Talkcentral(op): 10:29am On Mar 02, 2015

Presidency May Remove Jega This Week - SaharaReporters

According to a new report on SaharaReporters, they have learned that hawkish members of President Goodluck Jonathan’s inner circle have convinced him to move in an aggressive and decisive manner to remove Attahiru Jega as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) this week.

Sources within INEC as well as the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) disclosed that, barring a last-minute change of heart, President Jonathan will go ahead this week to force Mr. Jega to embark on a terminal leave prior to the end of his year in the middle of 2015.

Their sources said the decision to remove Mr. Jega would open the door to appoint a new chairman, a national commisoner of INEC, Amina Bala Zakari, who would be open to jettisoning the use of
permanent voters cards and other anti-rigging technologies.

“Once Prof. Jega is removed, Mr. President will nominate a new chairman who will declare that INEC is not ready to use PVCs. And once PVCs are removed, it will become easier to carry out major rigging,” an INEC source said.

He added that the Presidency had been able to use its massive slush funds, sourced from deals in the oil and energy sectors, to compromise a majority of INEC officials in the states.

Over the last four years, Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke has been stashing away funds that President Jonathan is now using to bribe electoral officials, traditional rulers, and even some members of the civil society groups. One PDP insider told SaharaReporters that Mr. Jonathan had distributed more than $200 million to different groups since INEC postponed elections two weeks ago.

Several sources said the removal of Mr. Jega is a major part of a strategy developed by President Jonathan’s team to ensure that they win the presidential and other elections by hook or crook. The presidential election is now scheduled for March 28 while governorship and legislative polls will hold on April 11.

Two weeks ago, facing a groundswell of opposition and in the face of rising unpopularity, the PDP and Mr. Jonathan used a series of maneuvers to compel INEC to postpone elections for six weeks. SaharaReporters had detailed plans by Mr. Jonathan and his team to postpone elections in order to slow the momentum of the All Progressives Congress and its presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

The Presidency knew that the APC and its presidential candidate were short on campaign funds, said our sources. In forcing the postponement, Mr. Jonathan and his inner circle achieved a temporary crippling of the main opposition party’s ability to continue to run political campaigns and to sustain its electoral lead over the ruling party.

An APC top official told SaharaReporters that the party was truly short of funds.

“The president and his people have been putting aside public funds for a long time. They are now sharing the money around the country, but Nigerians are not fools. When the elections come, people will remember that all that money was stolen from them,” he said.

Prior to the postponement, some PDP officials had confided in SaharaReporters that their party and Mr. Jonathan were on the ropes and faced certain defeat. But following the postponement, some of the same officials now wax confidence, asserting that Mr. Jonathan and their party would comfortably win the elections.

A PDP official told SaharaReporters that Mr. Jega’s removal was a done deal. According to him, the hawks around Mr. Jonathan, including Ms. Alison-Madueke, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Vice President Namadi Sambo, and presidential aides Doyin Okupe and Femi Fani-Kayode, believe that the PDP and Mr. Jonathan can weather the storm of any fallout from the firing of the INEC chairman.

“They believe the APC, the world press, the US and EU will make noise, but then everybody will eventually calm down,” said the source. He added that the same situation played out when President Jonathan removed Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Governor of the Central Bank.

Our sources said Mr. Jega’s refusal to be compromised in the conduct of this year’s elections had spelt his doom.

“Many RECs (resident electoral commissioners) are in the party’s [PDP’s] pocket, but Professor Jega has refused even to pick up the phone calls of those representing the president. That’s why the decision has been reached to push him out of the way,” one INEC source said.

He added that Mr. Jega knew that the eyes of the world were on him, and had decided to run elections that are acknowledged as credible.

Our sources added that, before and after Mr. Jega’s removal, the PDP plans to launch a major campaign to depict him as incompetent, corrupt, and a servant of the APC.

“His successor will come out and say that INEC’s preparations for the elections are in a state of mess and that further delay is needed to make proper preparations,” he added.

PoliticsI Need Prayers To Run Credible Elections – Jonathan by Talkcentral(op): 10:04am On Mar 02, 2015

President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to all Christian faithfuls to intensify their prayers for the stability of the country, arguing that his administration can only conduct free and fair elections with prayer.

Jonathan, who was speaking at the first 2015 plenary session of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), tagged: ‘Good Family, Make Good Nation’, in Abuja, thanked Christians for their prayers for the country.

“I am ready to champion the course that would bring Nigeria to an enviable height. I need prayers and support of all Nigerians to run free, fair and credible elections. I am convinced that this country will continue to be stable,” he said.

The President used the opportunity to reassure that the 2015 elections would be held as scheduled, urging Nigerians to co-operate with his government.

“Elections will be conducted as scheduled by INEC. Look at what happened in Gombe on February 14, if elections had been held the casualty figure of that attack would have been great.

“Its better for us to conduct elections that will not be contested, elections that are credible, free and fair. I will not do anything because of personal interest that would jeopardize the interest of this nation,” President Jonathan assured.

The CBCN president and Archbishop of Jos, Ignatius Kaigama called for political campaigns based on issues and not of inciting utterances that were capable of increasing the already tensed political climate.

Osinbajo planning to hand over to Tinubu – Femi Fani-Kayode

At a press briefing in Abuja today, the spokesperson of the PDP Presidential campaign organization PDPPCO, Femi Fani-Kayode alleged that a Chieftain of the APC, Bola Tinubu has compelled the Vice Presidential candidate of the APC, Prof Osinbajo to swear to an oath that he would resign as Vice President six months after inauguration (if their party wins) so that he can scheme his way into power if Gen Buhari dies in office. What he said below…

“The PDPPCO wishes to use this forum to expose the ungodly plan by Tinubu to seize the presidency of Nigeria by subterfuge. The real reason Tinubu nominated Osinbajo has been made known to us and we hereby offer a public service to the Nigerian people by drawing national attention to it. Tinubu wanted to be running mate to Buhari in spite of the nationwide resentment for Muslim-Muslim ticket that he and Buhari planned to foist on their party men and women. But when he and Buhari could not push through the agenda within the APC, he (Tinubu), after being given the opportunity to nominate a vice presidential candidate, he decided to prop up his stooge in the person of Prof Osinbajo.
Tinubu, according to our information, has compelled Osinbajo to swear to an oath that after six months in office, he would resign as the vice president, in the unlikely event that their party wins. Credible pieces of information at our disposal indicate that Tinubu has perfected plans to come to power through the back door. The ultimate objective of this plot is to ensure that Tinubu becomes president. The script is simple: given the questionable health of Buhari, Tinubu, who is desperate to be president for his own selfish reasons, will simply bid his time in the evil expectation that Buhari will not be able to go the whole hog.” Fani Kayode said

Additional victory as troops recover eight more towns from Boko Haram

The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen Chris Olukolade, said in a statement on Friday that the troops handed out a crushing defeat to the insurgents and recovered the headquarters of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State, Bara, and the headquarters of Madagali Local Government area, Gulag, from them in the early hours of Friday.

He said that the troops also flushed out terrorists from other locations such as Shikah, Fikayel, Tetebah, Buza, Kamla and Bumsa, during the two-day operation.

According to Olukolade, many insurgents were killed in the fierce fighting that preceded the liberation of the communities.

The Defence spokesman said that the troops recovered and destroyed several arms and ammunition, vehicles and other equipment.

According to him, the items recovered included anti-air craft guns, general purpose machine guns, barrel grenade launchers, rifles and mortar guns.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan expressed confidence that troops would sustain the gains they have been recording in the fight against the Boko Haram sect.

He assured that the military would recover more territories seized by the terrorist group.

Jonathan gave the assurance when the outgoing French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Jacques Champagne De Labriolle, visited him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President said the officers and men of the Nigerian Army he met on the frontline in Borno and Adamawa states on Thursday were in high spirits, well prepared and determined to successfully complete their operations against the terrorist group.

“We have already recovered much territory and very soon our troops will clear the terrorists out of other areas not presently under our control.”

Accepting a congratulatory message from President Francois Hollande to Nigeria for recent successes of its armed forces against Boko Haram, Jonathan restated Nigeria’s appreciation of France’s support for Nigeria and its neighbours in the fight against terrorism.

He commended Hollande for organising the Paris Summit of Heads of State of Nigeria, Benin Republic, Cameroon, Niger and Chad in May 2014 to foster greater regional cooperation against terrorism and insurgency.

The President pledged that beyond the ongoing military campaign in the North-East, Nigeria would continue to implement all agreements reached at the summit to ensure lasting peace and security within its borders and in neighbouring countries.

Jonathan, however, reassured the international community of his commitment to free, fair and credible polls in the country next month.

The President wished the outgoing ambassador well in his future endeavours and urged him to always be a “good ambassador of Nigeria’’.

In his remarks, Labriolle said that France was “confident in the future of Nigeria and its ability to continue playing a huge role in Africa and world affairs.”

The ambassador also expressed delight at improved trade and economic ties between Nigeria and France in the last three years, noting that over 250 French companies are currently operating in Nigeria.

PoliticsLagosians, I Will Free You From Apc's Bondage — Jonathan by Talkcentral(op): 10:42am On Feb 21, 2015

Lagosians, I Will Free You From APC's Bondage — Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he would free the people of Lagos State from the "bondage" of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has ruled the state since the inception of the fourth republic in 1999.

He asked the people not to vote for APC during the rescheduled general elections but to cast their votes for all the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates contesting elections, so as to be free from APC's alleged 16 years of oppression in Lagos.

The President said this yesterday when a group of market women in the state paid him solidarity visit at the State House, Marina, Lagos.

Jonathan promised the market women that a PDP led administration in Lagos State would provide the enabling environment for traders to ply their trades without hindrance, unlike what they are said to be experiencing under the APC led government.

"I urge you all to vote for PDP. Our victory at the polls will free all Lagos traders from oppression. You need to be free; we will remove Lagos from bondage," he said.

He commended the women for supporting his re-election bid and urged them not to be intimidated by the opposition, saying, “I have listened to you; you have been carrying the PDP flag; you have been humiliated but you still marched on.

“Thank you for working hard for PDP. This is the final struggle and the time for us to use all our strength to achieve victory. If we struggle and win Lagos State, everybody will do his business without being harassed or intimidated,” he said.

Earlier, the leader of the visiting team, Hajia Aminat Hussein, had told the president that they had stood behind the PDP since its inception but regretted that the members suffered harassment under the APC led government in the state.

She said that in spite of the attempts by APC “to buy over many of the market women,” the women would mobilise themselves in the state and in other states to ensure victory for the president.

I Have Fulfilled My Promise On Power Sector – President

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday said he had lived up to his campaign pledge to Nigerians that he would make the power sector a priority for his administration, Punch reports.

Jonathan spoke during the inauguration of the Olorunsogo II Power Station in Ogun State today. The power plant is a 750MW Nigerian Integrated Power Project.

“I have lived up to my campaign pledge to make the power sector a priority,” Jonathan told the gathering that included members of the Federal Executive Council, Peoples Democratic Party chiefs from Ogun State and leading traditional rulers.

Jonathan said although it was capital intensive to make a difference in the power sector, his administration had been tackling it headlong.

He said the short interface between public ownership of power sector to private sector would soon be over.

With that session over, the President said Nigerians would begin to take power for granted in the next two years.

He said, “The interface between 100 per cent ownership of the power sector by government and 100 percent ownership by private sector will soon be over.

“In the next two years, Nigerians can take power sector for granted like it is obtainable in other countries.”

He said he was confident that Nigeria is moving in the right direction under his watch.

He described the power plant as the second largest NIPP power station in the country.

The President urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government in its desire to improve electricity.

Pay Doctors Their Salaries, It Is Their Right, Agbaje Tells LASG

PDP Governorship aspirant, Jimi Agbaje has urged the Lagos State Government to pay Doctors threatening to go on strike, saying it is their right because they worked for it. Agbaje says Lagos is a mega city that cannot allow its health practitioners be on strike. Here what he said in a statement released by his Media Aide, Mr Remi Adefulu.

“My heart bleeds over this avoidable strike because I find it unbelievable that the state is making the poor masses suffer unduly due to a minor issue like salaries, which is the right of every worker. Government the world over is about the people, but are the people not the ones suffering?. Something urgent should be done by government to alleviate their sufferings and prevent avoidable deaths. Let me assure Lagosians that hope is on the way, as our administration knows the importance of a healthy people to national development. As I have said repeatedly during our campaigns, our administration shall introduce a free health insurance scheme that would be beneficial to Lagosians and service providers. The system is working all over the world, and our people deserve to benefit from this globally-acclaimed best practice in the health sector,” he said.

I Will Declare My Assets Publicly – Buhari

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), said he would publicly declare his assets and liabilities, if voted into power.

Buhari stated this in a document obtained by PUNCH in Abuja on Thursday. The document highlights what Buhari will do in his first 100 days if he assumes power on May 29.

He said he would encourage political appointees in his administration to also declare their assets publicly.

If the APC candidate keeps to his promise, he will be the second Nigeria’s President to publicly
declare his assets.

The late President, Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua, also from Katsina State as Buhari, was the first and the only Nigeria’s President to have publicly declared his assets when he assumed office.

This action forced his then deputy, who is now the President Goodluck Jonathan, to also make his assets declaration forms available to the public.

However, since he assumed office as the substantive President, Jonathan has refused to make the forms available to the public, saying that he did that when he was serving as deputy to Yar’Adua.

Asked during a media chat whether he would consider declaring his assets publicity, the President refused, saying he did not give a damn.

But Buhari, in the document titled, “I pledge to Nigeria” also said that all his political appointees would only earn salaries and allowances as prescribed by the Revenue and Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission. He said:

“I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liabilities, encourage all my appointees to publicity declare their assets and liabilities as a pre-condition for appointment. All political appointees will only earn the salaries and allowances determined by the RMFAC.”

While pledging to personally lead the war against corruption in the country, Buhari also said that he would inaugurate the National Council on Procurement as stipulated in the Procurement Act.

He added that the Federal Executive Council, which he said had been turned to a weekly session of contract bazaar, would be made to concentrate on its principal function of policy making.

He said that he would also work with the National Assembly towards the immediate enactment of a Whistle Blower Act.

On the other ways to strengthen the anti-graft war, he said:

“We will work with the National Assembly to strengthen the Independent Corruption Practices and other related Offences Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by guaranteeing institutional autonomy, including financial and prosecutorial independence and security of tenure of officials.

We will also make the Financial Intelligence Unit of the EFCC autonomous and operational; encourage proactive disclosure of information by government institutions in the spirit of the Freedom of Information Act.”

He also promised that his government would work with the leadership of the National Assembly and the judiciary to cut down the cost of governance.

On insurgency and insecurity in the country, the former head of state said that he had had the rare privilege of serving the country in the military in various capacities and rose to the rank of a major general and Commander -in -Chief of the Armed Forces, he would defend the integrity of the nation.

“I pledge, as Commander-in-Chief, to lead from the front and not behind in the comfort and security of Aso Rock, to boost the morale of fighting forces and the generality of all Nigerians,” he said.

On the fate of the kidnapped Chibok girls, Buhari said that as a father, he had been feeling the pain of the victims of insurgency, kidnapping and violence whether “they are widows and orphans of the military, paramilitary, civilians and parents or the Chibok girls.

“My government shall act decisively on any actionab

Obasanjo Opens Up: I don't want Jonathan to Collapse Nigeria

President Olusegun Obasanjo has given reasons why he publicly tore his PDP membership card. The man who is widely respected both in Africa and around the world, said he took the action to maintain his image as a revered statesman, locally and internationally.

In three tweets posted at intervals by the former president, he said that he could not remain in the same party with President Goodluck Jonathan who uses his party and corruption to tear down the country.

He also said it is better for him to quit the PDP than remain in it with a drug baron. Details below:

Obasanjo’s purported tweet from @SegunObasanjo
“I’d rather sacrifice my political party for the interest of Nigeria than sacrifice my country for a political party led by a drug baron.

“I’d rather tear the PDP membership card than sit down and let Jonathan use PDP and corruption to tear my beloved country apart.

“I have national & international standard to maintain. For this reason I’d rather stand alone than be in the same political party with Kashamu.”

Obasanjo said that the party card he tore was one of the least things preoccupation to what is good for Nigeria, pointing out that there was nothing he could not sacrifice for the interest of the nation.

He boasted that despite the destruction of his party care, he would not be cowed by anyone, as he was still ready to comment on any matter that required his comment or view for the good of Nigeria.

He said, “If there is anything that requires my own comment, position or views. I will say it. It is only when you kill me that I will stop doing so."

PoliticsCameroon Military Kill 86 Boko Haram Members by Talkcentral(op): 12:05pm On Feb 17, 2015
Cameroon’s army has revealed that it has killed 86 Boko Haram militants while also detaining 1,000 people suspected of links to the Islamist group, Punch Newspaper reports.

Cameroon Military Kill 86 Boko Haram Members

Military spokesman Didier Badjeck revealed that five Cameroonian soldiers were killed during the clashes in the Waza region near the border with Nigeria.

Boko Haram has widened its attacks into neighbouring nations, notably Cameroon and Chad, in a conflict estimated to have claimed a total 13,000 lives since 2009.

Representatives of 10 nations, meeting in the Cameroonian capital Yaounde on Monday under the auspices of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), urged the international community to provide more support in the fightback against the Islamists as central African leaders held talks on how to combat its bloody insurgency.

“We have to eradicate Boko Haram,” said Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, as attendees pledged to create a 76-million-euro ($86-million) fund to fight the group.

Biya declared that Boko Haram’s utter disregard for human dignity meant “a total impossibility of compromise”, but added that the fight against terrorism was not a “crusade against Islam”.

Nigeria, where elections have been postponed by six weeks until late March because of Boko Haram activity in swathes of the northeast, was absent from the talks as it is not an ECCAS member.

The aim of Monday’s discussion was to come up with “an agreed solution” on the fight against the extremists, a source close to the Cameroonian government told AFP.

Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria have formed a military alliance to combat the notoriously brutal militants, who are fighting to create a hardline Islamic state.

A Cameroonian army official meanwhile announced that more than 1,000 people suspected of being affiliated with Boko Haram were being held in the town of Maroua, in the country’s Far North region, where more than 2,000 Cameroonian soldiers have been deployed since August last year.

“At the moment, the prison of Maroua is holding more than 1,000 Boko Haram (suspects),” Colonel Joseph Nouma, commander of a local operation is quoted as saying by the Punch Newspaper.

The detentions follows announcement by police in Niger said they had arrested more than 160 people suspected of having links to Boko Haram in the country’s Diffa region, a border area with Nigeria which was attacked by the Islamist group this month.

PoliticsObasanjo Is Nigeria’s Number One Enemy, He Is A Cancer – Fayose by Talkcentral(op): 10:55am On Feb 16, 2015

Press statement from the office of the Ekiti state government below…

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the number one enemy of Nigeria, saying; “he is a confusionist who has lost his status as a statesman and Nigerians should simply ignore him.”

The governor, who expressed confidence that President Goodluck Jonathan will be reelected to complete his eight years term, added that; “Obasanjo is only fighting President Jonathan because he prevented him (Obasanjo) from ruling Nigeria from his Ota Farm.”

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “Obasanjo is a cancer that may never get cured in a lifetime.

“The moment Obasanjo is not the one controlling a house, he will want the house pulled down but this time around, he has failed.”

The governor said; “Obasanjo has always benefitted from the misfortune of others and he is living with the impression that he is the wisest person in the whole world.

“When Murtala Mohammed was murdered in 1976, Obasanjo was the beneficiary.

“In 1993, he said the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, late Chief MKO Abiola was not the Messiah Nigeria needed. Instead of Obasanjo to join the clamour for the actualisation of Abiola’s mandate, Obasanjo was canvassing for an Interim National Government, which he schemed to head.

“MKO Abiola died in detention in 1997 and Obasanjo became the beneficiary of his (Abiola) death.

“Despite the fact that it was the blood of MKO Abiola that Obasanjo matched on to power, not even a street was named after Abiola throughout Obasanjo’s eight years as president.

“Today, Obasanjo is fighting President Jonathan, the man who has done what he failed to do for Abiola, the Yoruba people and Nigerians as a whole when he was president for eight years, simply because he does not want anyone to equal his record as Nigeria’s longest serving president.

“President Jonathan has made it impossible for Obasanjo to run his presidency for him and for this reason, he is supporting Buhari, hoping that he will be the one to nominate ministers for Buhari if he becomes president.

“Abanije eniyan to nba eeyan je kiri, ojo to ba dekun ibaje ni won maa ba oun naa je kanle ( He who destroys will ultimately ends up in destruction).

“However, I have this bad news for Obasanjo. Nigeria is not his football that he can kick around as he likes. President Jonathan will be reelected, and Nigeria will be freed from his (Obasanjo) bondage once and for all.”

PoliticsUpdate: How Council Of State Rejected Plot To Postpone Poll by Talkcentral(op): 11:02am On Feb 06, 2015

UPDATE: HOW COUNCIL OF STATE REJECTED PLOT TO POSTPONE POLL

My worry here is that PDP and their agents like Ijaw leader, E.K. Clarke are talking too much about this issue of postponement. NaijaNewsToday.com gathered that the incumbent government is in serious panic.

Following a grueling 8-hour meeting on Thursday, the National Council of State emphatically rejected the move by the Presidency and the PDP to postpone the 2015 general elections at all cost.

The meeting, according to SR, was President Goodluck Jonathan’s final effort to rescue an election that seems to have got away from him as many Nigerians seem ready to vote Muhammadu Buhari.

When it was time for INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, to speak, he shocked the meeting by disclosing that just before he entered the Council chambers, Jonathan’s National Security Advisor (NSA), Sambo Dasuki , had handed him a report saying that the security services could not guarantee security during the elections.

Dasuki, he stated, emphasized that 14 Local Government Areas in North East would be compromised.
President Jonathan, at meeting, also cited security concerns and lack of preparedness by INEC as reasons for coming out to seek for the postponement of the elections.

But Presidency sources at the meeting said that all the former Heads of State spoke in favor of holding the general elections on February 14th and February 28th 2015, as scheduled by INEC. Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the APC, also spoke calmly but firmly against the proposal.

The sources revealed that Jega responded the security questions, stating “We are better off [more secure] than in 2011” elections. He also argued that the security situation in 14 LGAs should not interfere with a country of over 700 such councils.

Professor Jega also said that all Permanent Voting Cards (PVCs) were ready for voters and that their availability should no longer be considered an issue. Our sources say that when Jega finishing giving his presentation, the majority of the room clapped in support and respect.

One source disclosed to SR that after Jega’s presentation, aides to President Jonathan sent a signal to Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark, Alex Ekwueme and Senator Okunrounmu to release a “dossier” that was in the possession of the group against Jega. That group then quickly organized a press conference in Abuja to demand Jega’s removal from INEC and get him arrested and tried for “treason”.

Contrary to Jega’s positive reception at the Council of State, the group, in a fall-back strategy the president seemed to have approved of in advance, claimed that the INEC boss had colluded with some Northern “leaders” to cheat the South of the Presidency.

Jega has insisted that with the PVC, nobody can rig the election. The votes of Nigerians must count.

FORMER GOVERNOR NYAKO BLASTS EFCC FOR DECLARING HIM WANTED

Earlier today, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, released a statement saying former Adawama state governor, Murtala Nyako is wanted for stealing, abuse of office and money laundering. (see here). Mr. Nyako has reacted, blasting EFCC and saying declaring him wanted is the ‘last kicks of a dying horse”.

Mr. Nyako spoke to Premium Times through his media assistant, Ahmed Sajoh

“I am not aware of being declared wanted. But that is good. If you are wanted by a rouge system, it means you are a good person. Has this government gone after anybody that is bad? They only run after the good people and allow the bad people to roam around them, live happily and enjoy whatever bad things they are doing.”

The former governor also blasted the government saying he is not surprised that EFCC declared him wanted and said that many more Nigerians will be declared wanted by the government because they are intimidated by the large crowd that turned out for the APC, rally in Yola, Adamawa.

According to him, the Jonathan government is afraid that even when he (Nyako) was no longer in office, the people of Adamawa State still love and support him.

“When the time comes for them to be declared wanted nobody will sympathise with them,” he concluded.

PoliticsI've Spoken; Take My Words Serious For February 14 – Obasanjo by Talkcentral(op): 1:31pm On Feb 05, 2015

A former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has said he will henceforth maintain silence on the state of the nation until after the forthcoming general elections.

He said this on Wednesday while addressing traditional rulers from Egbaland who were attending a seminar organised by a non-governmental organisation, The Village Network Empowerment Initiative. The seminar held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

The former president, who had in recent times criticised President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, said it was unfortunate that some people could misconstrue his good intention for the country.
He said, “Where we are now, I have spoken. I have used body language and whoever still does not understand all I have been saying, it would take such a person a long time to understand."

Hence, he said he had chosen to keep mum until after the elections.

Obasanjo, who also flayed the situation in which teachers in some states were being owed salaries for upward of six months, said Nigerians had an opportunity from February 14 to play their own part in enthroning leaders of their choice.

“It is something that is very clear for us all to see. Some people came to visit me from Benue State three days ago and told me teachers in that state had not been paid for six months.

“There are states where teachers have not been paid for four months, three months and two months. That is not good at all. It’s only God that can help us to overcome all these problems.

“All I know is that God has done His own part and it’s now left for us as human beings to do our own bit. Do we, as Nigerians, say that God has not been magnanimous enough to us?

“Is it human or natural resources that we do not have? We are blessed with a lot of fertile land. Shakespeare says the fault is not in our stars but in ourselves that we are underlings.

“God has done his own part and it’s now left for us as human beings to play our own part. That our own part starts from the 14th and it’s now left to you and me. I won’t say more than that. I’ve said I won’t say anything anymore until after the elections.

“You’ll hear from me after the elections. But I’ve said it verbally and through body language and how you understand it all is now left to you. But whatever you still don’t understand about all of these, I will put it in prayers that God should enable you to clearly understand it all better.

“But I won’t say more than this until after the election.”

EFCC Declares Nyako and Son Wanted… And His Reply Will Shock You!

Oh dear the embattled former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, has been declared wanted by the anti- graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission along with his son, Abdul Aziz Murtala Nyako, a retired Naval officer. Both are wanted in a case of criminal conspiracy, stealing, abuse of office and money laundering.

But when Premium Times got in touch with Nyako through his media assistance, Ahmed Sajoh, what Nyako said will surprise you. He described President Jonathan’s government, as a government that allows bad people move and enjoy freely in the country, while the good ones are being hunted for. He then described his being wanted as a ‘last kick of a dying horse’ saying the president will soon be kicked out of office. Continue below to see howPremiumTimes puts it and everything he told them.

The embattled former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, on Wednesday blasted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] for declaring him and his son wanted.

The former governor described the anti-graft agency’s latest ambush on him as the last kicks of a dying horse, saying President Goodluck Jonathan, will soon be kicked out of office.

Mr. Nyako who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES through his media assistant, Ahmed Sajoh, also noted that the Jonathan administration is intimidated by the soaring support he (Nyako) has continued to get even after he left office.

“I am not aware of being declared wanted. But that is good,” Mr. Nyako said.

“If you are wanted by a rouge system, it means you are a good person. Has this government gone after anybody that is bad? They only run after the good people and allow the bad people to roam around them, live happily and enjoy whatever bad things they are doing.”

Mr. Nyako said he is not surprised at the latest action of the EFCC and noted that many more Nigerians will be declared wanted by the government.

He argued that the government is being intimidated by the mammoth crowd that turned out for the All Progressives Congress, APC, rally in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

According to him, the Jonathan government is afraid that even when he (Nyako) was no longer in office, the people of Adamawa State still love and support him.

He drew attention to how the crowd went wild with dancing when one of the songs eulogising the former governor was played at the APC rally in Yola, saying no amount of blackmail can stop the people from loving Mr. Nyako.

“When the time comes for them to be declared wanted nobody will sympathise with them,” he concluded.

Delta closes schools for Jonathan’s visit

Delta State Government has asked schools to close down on Wednesday as President Goodluck Jonathan visits Asaba, the state capital to campaign for votes.

Management of various schools told parents and guardians on Tuesday as they picked up their children and wards that schools would not be holding today (Wednesday) because of the President’s visit.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chike Ogeah, confirmed to our correspondent that Wednesday has been declared a public holiday to enable citizens of the state to welcome President Jonathan.

The declaration of the public holiday came as the Goodluck Support Group said it would shut down the entire state to welcome the Peoples Democratic Party presidential campaign team to the state.

The Delta State Coordinator of the group, Mr. Austin Ezeagbo, said at a press briefing in Asaba on Tuesday that the President has done so well for Nigerians that the least they could do to show appreciation was to re-elect him.

“Our vision is to return Jonathan to Aso Rock in 2015.

And it’s a job already done.

We are doing this because of the job he has done.

Nigeria from independence in 1960 was rated higher than Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“But successive governments after then ran this country aground.

“Our roads were deathtraps.

But he has transformed that.

He has built 12 federal universities, nine in the North.

The man has done well with aviation, and agriculture in Nigeria today is top class.

What else do you want me to say that Jonathan has not done?

“Let me go beyond that.

Obasanjo did two terms; Shehu Shagari too.

Now is Jonathan’s turn.

Thereafter the presidency can now move to other parts of the country.

“What we intend to do is to shut down Delta State tomorrow; not just in Asaba,” Ezeagbo said.

PDP is More Muslim than APC - VP Sambo

Vice President Muhammed Namadi Sambo yesterday urged electorates not to be deceived by anyone in the name of religion to decide who to vote for in the upcoming general elections.

According to DailyTrust, the vice President made the call in Minna during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential campaign. He said his party has more Muslims in its leadership than the All Progressive Congress (APC). He said:

“When people bring the issue of religion to deceive you, our party has more Muslims than APC. Therefore if this (is) the yardstick, we then have an edge.

Our chairman is a Muslim; the Director General of our campaign is a Muslim likewise. I Namadina Namadina Sambo is a Muslim. It is only our presidential candidate that is a Christian.

In APC, their chairman is a Christian, their Campaign Director General is a Christian and the Vice President is a Pastor. Now let me ask you, which between the parties has more Muslims?”

Sambo added that:

“Nigeria belongs to both Christians and Muslims. During Tafawa-Balewa, he worked with Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe a Christian, during Shagari he worked with Alex Ekweme, Obasanjo with Atiku, Late Umaru Yaradua with Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and now Goodluck with Namadi."
