Some people especially within the APC are going to be very sad about this. I wonder if Buhari is going to accuse the African union of injustice the same way he accused the Nigerian fg, as far as that terror lover is concerned, people are supposed to cuddle and pamper the haramists while their loved ones are being bombed to pieces. |
By CALEB AYANSINA ABUJA – The Federal Government Monday, disclosed that the African Union Peace and Security had approved the mobilization and immediate deployment of 7,500 to Nigeria to fight Boko Haram. The Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri stated this while updating newsmen on the security situation in the Country, in Abuja. Omeri said; the recent regional and continental synergy and resolutions to establish a multinational military force by Nigeria’s neighboring countries of chad, Niger and Cameroun as well as the AU decision on the matter is point of reference here. “The African Union Peace and Security Council, at the recently concluded 24th ordinary session approved the mobilization and deployment of seven thousand five hundred troops to Nigeria to fight Boko Haram. “Consequently, the AU peace and Security Council is billed to begin to meet in Cameroun on Monday to authorize and finalize the concept of the operation in the fight against “Boko Haram” a decision which has been welcomed by the UN secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki Moon.” Speaking on the recent breakthrough recorded by Nigerian Army, Omeri noted that there had been a commendable determination of various stakeholders to tackle the menace of Boko Haram. “In the couple of days the effort of Nigerian military in checking insurgency in the north east state of the country has continued to yield result. On Sunday, Feburary, 1 2015, government troops from 7 division of Nigerian army stationed in and around Maduguri, the Borno state capital, successfully repelled a multi-prolonged attack launched by Boko haram from various fronts including Malwa Damboa Mafa others, but were effectively restricted by the gallant troops assisted by local civilian volunteers.” He added that “the situation in Adamawa showed that Nigeria military are making remarkable success; many town who are under Boko Haram presence have been liberated while town like Madagali, Gulak, Wagga-mildo, Shelini Sambo-Gari and Gubia are still under Boko Haram presence. “Others area such as kirachinga, Pallam and Mayo-Wandu have remained calm and peaceful.” Also, the centre confirmed the Bomb blast at the water board junction in Gombe state. “We got confirmation that there was actually a blast at the water board junction in Gombe town, the incident took place soon after President and his entourage left the stadium in Gombe, casualty figure are not yet ascertain,” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/boko-haram-army-gets-7500-au-troops-boost/ |

Mr Dennis Idahosa, Commissioner for Investment and Public/Private Partnership in Edo, on Friday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Idahosa joined the PDP along with some leaders of the APC in Ovia South West Local Government Area of the State. Idahosa, who was received into the PDP by the state Chairman, Mr Dan Orbih, said his defection was a prelude to his resignation as commissioner, which he said would follow soon. He explained that he left the APC because of incessant abuse of President Goodluck Jonathan and Edo elders by Gov. Adams Oshiomhole. The commissioner noted that he would immediately join forces with PDP in the state to galvanise support for the re-election of President Jonathan. “The reason I am joining PDP is that I don’t agree with the way Oshiomhole abuses our elders and President Jonathan. I stand to support President Jonathan for the presidency.” Idahosa said more serving commissioners in Oshiomhole’s cabinet have expressed willingness to join the PDP. He noted that the PDP would harness the failures of Oshiomhole’s administration to the benefit of the party. Idahosa appealed for tolerance among PDP supporters in the state, urging them to take the messages of political tolerance to every parts of the state. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/oshiomholes-commissioner-defects-pdp/ |
The Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) said no party or group had written to say that it was not interested in participating in the elections debate. Mr Taiwo Alimi, founding Chairman/Consultant of the NEDG, said this in an interview with newsmen after a meeting in Abuja on Friday preparatory to the conduct of the debate. He said the NEDG had the acknowledgement copies of reminders sent out on Friday. He assured that the body still remained very credible and non-partisan. “So far, all the political parties are attending the debate beginning from Sunday; there is no party that has written to the NEDG saying that they were not going to take part. “Just earlier today, our secretariat sent out reminders to all the participating political parties and they all signed that they received our letter. “Not one is saying that they will not come, all the parties will attend.’’ He explained that the NEDG is made up of Nigeria Guild of Editors, National Alliance for Credible Elections in Nigeria, Association of Young Professionals, and National Council of Women Societies. He also named the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria made up of all privately and government owned media houses in Nigeria. “Therefore, given the composition of the NEDG since 2003, it is an organisation with integrity, with trust, with competence and with experience. “It remains the largest platform for debate in Nigeria and Africa. Therefore, there is no such thing about being government owned. “All the privately owned media houses are part of the NEDG”, he stressed. He emphasised that the NEDG was the greatest platform for those who want to let Nigerians know what they will do, how they will do it. Mr Isaac Ighure, General Secretary, Nigerian Guild of Editors, said the meeting was to fine-tune arrangements for a hitch-free conduct of the elections debates. He said Nigerians had responded positively by sending in 6000 questions so far. Ighure said the questions would be considered and harmonised by the Questions Harmanisation Committee of the NEDG. He said that the group had, however, forwarded all the thematic areas that question may be drawn from to all participating political parties to help them prepare. “As we speak, the committee on the collation of the question is still meeting. So, how possible is it that you will leak question that has not even been collated. “We should dispel the notion that the NEDG is favouring some political parties and leaking questions to them: in any case, every candidate is going to answer the same questions. “Do not forget that there is nobody scoring anybody; you are presenting your manifesto to the electorate, they are the ones to decide, not the NEDG”, he said. He disclosed that the group had also made arrangements with health providers to take care of any emergencies but stressed that the group does not hope for any. Earlier in a press statement, the group stressed that no particular media house or group of media houses, government or private, was influencing the group’s activities. The statement signed by Mr Tony Akiotu, Chairman, Media/Publicity Committee of the NEDG, said the Chairmanship of BON which rotates among government media, was now being considered for amendment to include private media. He said that the question template is usually made available to all parties and no party is favoured over another. Akiotu said the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been reached concerning the purported boycott of the debate and hoped that party’s candidate would attend. APC on Thursday issued a statement that it will boycott the debate citing the composition of the group as part of its reasons. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/no-group-written-opt-debate-says-alimi/ |
Pls be careful with your criticisms of the Nigerian army, their operations are not completely exposed for the general public for specific reasons. |
N'Djamena (AFP) - Three soldiers and 123 Boko Haram militants were killed when the Islamist group attacked a Chadian army contingent in northern Cameroon, the Chadian military said. Twelve soldiers were wounded in the attacks staged by the Islamists on Thursday and Friday near the border town of Fotokol, according to a military statement read out on national television. Chad sent a convoy of troops and military vehicles into neighbouring Cameroon on January 17 to deal with the growing threat Boko Haram poses in the region. "The enemy was repelled by our defensive forces," the general staff's statement said, adding that the troops had "routed" the Islamists in the second attack. The soldiers were killed by improvised explosive devices, the statement said. A senior Cameroonian security source said the Chadian troops were deployed to the town, which sits opposite a Nigerian town under Boko Haram control and is also close to the border with Chad, on Wednesday. Boko Haram frequently stages attacks on Fotokol from their base in the Nigerian town of Gamboru, which is just 500 metres (yards) away. Chad has called on countries in the region to form a broad coalition in the fight against the Islamist group. The country has already deployed its army along its borders as well as sending the additional contingent to Cameroon. Chad's president Idriss Deby has also expressed intentions of taking back the strategic Nigerian town of Baga from Boko Haram, situated on Lake Chad. The African Union called on Friday for a regional five-nation force of 7,500 troops to defeat the "horrendous" rise of Boko Haram. "Terrorism, in particular the brutality of Boko Haram against our people, (is) a threat to our collective safety, security and development. This has now spread to the region beyond Nigeria and requires a collective, effective and decisive response," AU commission chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said in a speech opening the summit. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told African leaders that Boko Haram was "a clear danger to national, regional and international peace and security". The group's uprising has become a regional crisis, with the four directly affected countries -- Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria -- agreeing along with Benin to boost cooperation to contain the threat and to form a Multinational Joint Task Force. More than 13,000 people have been killed and more than one million made homeless by Boko Haram violence since 2009. http://news.yahoo.com/3-chad-soldiers-123-boko-haram-militants-killed-233359020.html?hl=1&noRedirect=1 |

Its funny when people who have no idea about government and policy formulations suddenly want to start making noise here |
While sadists and the evil ones in APC say the Gej led FG isn't doing "anything", wise investors are keying into the favorable economic policies activated by this same administration. Gej 2015 na you get am. The Federal Government yesterday commissioned a N60billion integrated steel mill in Shagamu, Ogun State as part of productive activities thrown up by the sectorial implementation of the Nigerian Industrial Revolution Plan. Minister of Trade & Investment, Olusegun Aganga Minister of Trade & Investment, Olusegun Aganga The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, who commissioned the mill, built by the Standard Metallurgical Company, said Government was committed to repositioning the steel sector to access a substantial share of the global wealth, estimated at $10tn. He said with the implementation of the right sectorial policies under the NIRP, the number of functioning steel rolling mills in Nigeria had increased to over 21 currently, from less than five a few years ago. ”Before this administration came on board, we had less than five functioning steel rolling mills and no cold rolled steel mill, but today there are more than 15 functioning steel rolling mills producing reinforced bars; about three functioning cold rolled steel mills producing cold rolled flat sheets; and about three producing or about to commence the production of wire coils. This is a visible evidence that our policies are working,” Aganga said. According to him, steel is at the heart of any country’s economic development and is one of the most important materials widely used for both domestic and industrial purposes throughout the world, hence the priority given to the sector in the NIRP. He said, “In addition to accelerating the industrial development of a nation, a vibrant steel sector contributes to the growth of the Gross Domestic Product and exploitation of Nigeria’s abundant natural resources. “A vibrant steel sector also generates economic activities in downstream industries, creates job opportunities and acquisition of technical skills, helps in the transfer of technology and provision of machine parts and tools. This particular project is being executed with 100 per cent locally-sourced raw materials.” He noted that the establishment of the phase I of SMC’s steel mill and the ground breaking of the phase II of the project would complement the company’s existing investments in the agri-business sub-sector of the country, pointing out that the mill ranked among the largest private sector investments in the steel sector in Nigeria. Aganga said, “I am assuring existing investors like SMC and prospective ones of Government’s support in the pursuit of self-sufficiency in local steel production. The implementation of game changers in the sector is already opening up a lot of downstream sector activities with the attendant massive job opportunities and economic empowerment for our engineers, technicians, artisans and fabricators alike. ”To date, a number of sectorial policies have been developed under the NIRP. The Sugarcane to Sugar under the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) has attracted over $3 billion in investments. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/fg-commissions-n60bn-steel-mill-sagamu/ |
