I still remember Weep not, Child and The River Between as some of his most outstanding books. Rest in peace, prof. You shaped our thoughts with your literature. |
Gov SIM is a quiet achiever. He doesn't advertise his projects with elaborate commissioning and political bigwigs targeted for selfish gains. He is always interested in the people and their core needs. |
Happy birthday to a great man of God. Soar higher and more years of celebrations |
Dr Uyi Iluobe was posted to Oghara for his NYSC as a medical Doctor. After his service, he stayed back and established the Olive Medical Centre to provide services to Oghara community. He treated most of them free, especially pregnant women, when they complained they didn't have money. Some would even threaten to beat him up or deal with him after being treated and served their bills as if he was running a charity organisation, yet he stayed back because of the passion he had for his career and humanity. A police officer even confessed that several times he had extracted out bullets from his colleagues. His policy and a standing instruction at his hospital was "save lives first before asking for money" in emergency situations. On that fateful day 29th December, at about 7pm, a lady came after he had closed for the day pretending to have a severe stomach issue. One of the nurses on duty called him for what she thought was an emergency. The lady gave her name as Ese Felix with phone number 08022334285, apparently a fake identity. She said her friend was coming behind to pay her bills. Dr Uyi went on with examining her in the presence of one of the nurses. In the process, she made a call to the supposed friend, telling the person that she was with the doctor and would want him to come quickly to settle the bill. Shortly after the call, two guys came in. They had been waiting in a tinted glass car backed close to the hospital. They ordered the other nurse behind the desk to lead them to the doctor's office. They went in and quickly shot him twice (on his right chest and his stomach). Then drove off with the said lady who hurriedly joined their car. The doctor was rushed to Delta State University Teaching Hospital (where he did his NYSC) and was confirmed death. Dr Uyi who was married with kids, was an esan from Ekpoma and graduated from Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma. He was a pastor, lover of God and humanity. His blood will speak doom to the land it was spilled for several generations. The worst of it is that the police have been very silent about it. We demand justice for Dr Uyi. The NMA should demand justice for one of their own. |
