Politics / Why The Odds Favour Hon (Engr) Abiola Olowu As Federal House Of Rep Ibeju Lekki by tapzy(m): 1:23pm On Feb 22, 2019 |
Hon(Engr)Abiola Olowu Okanlawon is a retired Assistant director from the public service of the Lagos State government, his contributions to the social, economic and political development of Ibeju/Lekki federal constituency can never be overemphasized, he is resourceful, knowledgeable, courageous, compassionate and with his unparalleled experience and his philanthropic way of life, he's always willing to render genuine service to the people. The overwhelming support given to him by the people of the constituency was a clear indication of demonstration of love the people had for him as it was the case during the primary elections in which the people's mandate was subverted. As sovereignty is reserved with the people, they have decided to exercise this singular right in favour of Hon(Engr)Abiola Olowu as a fresh breeze with an impeccable impact to the development of the constituency as a retired civil servant that have never hold any political office. Also Holding of political office is like an actor in a film that people are watching and at the end like a looking mirror that gives back to every man the reflections of his Own face. The unhealthy contributions of other party candidate to the people of Ibeju/lekki while holding public office can never be forgotten in haste, when large parcel of land was acquired for the overiding of public interest for the construction of Local government secretariat, what happened after then,?. After the creation of the 57 Local government and LCDA in Lagos State, some parts of these Lands was sold to one of the APC National Leader that created a lot of pandemonium in that community Akodo It was also an indisputable fact that the CBD land at Maletalafia was acquired in the overiding of public interest with certificate of occupancy (C of O) for the betterment of the people of Ibeju/Lekki was converted to personal property and it was sold. But the question is who bought it, and who sold it "ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT". Aside that many families and communities had cried foul for the collection of their landed properties in the name of the Government,"IJOBA TI GBAA" for what? It was an indisputable fact, that nothing was done with genuine intentions by the candidate of this political party, the construction of Bogije road at the detriment of Solu Alade road was due to his business purposes of sand dredging and other business. All these atrocities negates the principle of justice, fairness and equity of an honourable that is to represent the interest of the people at the national Assembly. The level of the people political socialisation does not give room for them to be bomboozled by an empty promises by those who have been recycling in different public offices for the past nineteen(19) years at the detriment of the people in the constituency In conclusion Hon (Engr) Abiola Olowu is going to win the forthcoming National Assembly election that is devoid of rigging and other forms of manipulations because, the people have vow to resist rigging in any form. Hon (Engr) Abiola Olowu is the fresh air to the people of Ibeju/lekki and the real man whom the cap fits. Courtesy The Concerned Indigenes of Ibeju/Lekki.

Politics / Restructure Nigeria: Or.... by tapzy(m): 11:50am On Jun 10, 2017 |
Let nobody fool you, all the loud noises we hear today are nothing but the death groans of the dying system. The old order is passing away; the new order is coming into being. But whenever there is anything new there are new responsibilities. As we think of this coming new world we must think of the challenge that we confront and the new responsibilities that stand before us. We must prepare to live in a new world (Martin Luther King Jr) Things are never complicated as they seem. It is only arrogance that prompts us to find unnecessarily complicated answers to simple problems (Muhammad Yunus) There are too many hanging issues that we can’t ignore in present day Nigeria, especially the socio political question Restructure. The call to restructure Nigeria has been on for decades. Different political groups, observers and prominent politicians most especially from the Southern, Western and Eastern parts of Nigeria have been the major voice championing for a restructured Nigeria In Present day Nigeria, things are not working, appointments are not spread among the major ethnic groups, the federal character principle are being ignored , Job recruitments are based majorly on nepotism, tribalism and favoritism majority of Nigeria so called states can’t survive without relying on the power for help. The circumstances that led to the Political schism in Yugoslavia were the heap of structural Problems that the various Policies of government then created. Indeed, the failure to address the national issues and problems ultimately created a violent atmosphere and virulent climate of Political Crises accompanied by Brutal campaign of what they termed ethnic cleansing. The consequence of this was the macabre of bitter resentment, malevolence, chaos, rancor and wrong ethnic feelings that made Yugoslavia to Split and dissolve. Events of the last few days particularly the IPOB and MASSOB May 30th successful Sit at home order in the south eastern states to commemorate the 50th years of the Bloody Biafra Civil War which led to the death and starvation of millions of Nigeria and the recent order from some Northern youth groups to the Igbo’s to quit the North on/or before October 1st 2017 has added more salt to injury to the unity of Nigeria. The continuous existence of Nigeria as a nation remains a puzzle that needs to be solved. The present APC led government needs to drop his Ego and call for a referendum to determine if Nigerians are willing to remain as one sovereign, united and indissoluble country. Nigeria is in a urgent need of a res-et, national re orientation and national redesign. Majority of Nigerians are calling for Restructuring except those benefitting from the status quo. It’s advisable the APC led government heeds this call in order to achieve a just and egalitarian society where there will be no first, second or third class citizen. To save Nigeria from imminent disintegration, Restructuring is the way forward and if something urgent is not done; Nigeria is on the road to Yugoslavia. BY OLOWU OMOTOYOSI SAMUEL |

May leave office in six weeks • Lawyer sues Buhari, NJC, others • ‘Delayed confirmation may hurt judicial reforms’ About one and a half months after Justice Walter Onnoghen was sworn in as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), hopes that his appointment would be confirmed are getting dimmer. Onnoghen was appointed the acting CJN by President Muhammadu Buhari on November 11, 2016 following the retirement of the immediate past CJN, Mohammed Mahmud on November 10. This is the first time the holder of the office would be appointed in acting capacity for such a length of time in recent times. He now has till February 10, 2017 to get his appointment validated by the National Assembly or be removed from office. Section 321 (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended stipulates that any person so appointed “shall cease to have effect after the expiration of three months from the date of such appointment, and the President shall not re-appoint a person whose appointment has lapsed”, meaning that Justice Onnoghen, if not confirmed, would leave the office. Stakeholders are deeply concerned that the uncertainty over whether Onnoghen would be the substantive CJN or not, might impede justice administration and judicial reforms in the country. This development also confirms worries from different quarters that there are grand plots to deny justices from the Southern part of Nigeria the opportunity of heading the apex court. The next in rank to Justice Onnoghen is a Northerner, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad from Bauchi State. The last time a Southerner headed the apex court was in 1985, when Justice Ayo Gabriel Irikefe held sway. Since then, the North has produced virtually all the CJNs. Justice Mohammed Bello took over from Irikefe from 1987 to1995. Justice Muhammadu Lawal Uwais served between 1995 and 2006; Justice Salisu Modibo Alfa Belgore (2006-2007), Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi (2007-2009), Justice Aloysius Iyorgyer Katsina-Alu (2009-2011), Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar (2012-2014) and Justice Mahmud Mohammed who began to serve from 2014 till November 10, 2016. Underscoring the seriousness of the issue, a Lagos lawyer, Chief Malcolm Omirhobo has filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja asking the court to compel President Muhammadu Buhari to forward Onnoghen’s name to the National Assembly for confirmation. Respondents in the suit are Buhari, attorney general of the federation, federal judicial service commission, Justice Onnoghen and the National Judicial Council (NJC). Among other prayers, the plaintiff wants the court to declare that by Section 231(3) of the 1999 Constitution, the first respondent as the head of the executive arm of government cannot handpick and/ or choose who he wants to be the head of the judicial arm of government. A retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Olufunlola Oyelola Adekeye, is unhappy with the development. According to her, the appointment of Onnoghen in acting capacity may affect reforms in the judicial sector. Speaking to The Guardian, Justice Adekeye, who retired from the Supreme Court in October 2012, having attained the mandatory retirement age of 70 years, maintained it would be difficult for a CJN in acting capacity to introduce reforms in the judicial sector since he is not sure of his time frame in office. She said: “When you have an acting CJN, who can be removed at any time, he will lay down whatever he wants to do as a substantive CJN but will wait until he is appointed properly. “It is very important. When you have a solid tenure of office and you know what to do, you can swing into action.”When your tenure is not certain, you do not know what to do. That surely will affect the Nigerian judiciary; not only in the dispensation of justice but in several other ways. It's official. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is President-Elect. Outgoing President John Dramani Mahama called to concede defeat. Ghana has decided. Nana Addo the presidential candidate of the NPP posted this on facebook... A few minutes ago, at 7:51pm, the President of the Republic and the NDC presidential candidate, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, called me on the phone to congratulate me on my victory in the presidential election of 7th December 2016. He wished me the best of luck and God’s blessings, and assured me of his full co-operation in organizing the transition from his administration to mine. I thanked him for this graceful gesture, which is in the finest traditions of Ghanaian statesmanship and, on my part, assured him of my cooperation for a successful transition. I also thanked him for his service to our nation and said that I felt sure that his contribution to the welfare of our Republic was by no means over.
