The cause of the arrest was because unemployed graduates went out for a peaceful protest.

PoliticsProtesting Job Seekers Arrested In Bayelsa by TariEnoch(op): 10:53pm On Mar 26, 2013
The protesters had given prior notice to the Police before their protest.

The Police in Bayelsa on Tuesday arrested 30 unemployed graduates for participating in a mass protest in Yenagoa over lack of job opportunities in the state.

Scores of youths, mostly unemployed graduates, had earlier trooped to the streets in Yenagoa, protesting what they described as the high rate of unemployment in the state.

However, policemen from the Bayelsa State Police Command used tear gas to disperse the protesters.

The protesting youth were arrested at Yenizue-Gene in Yenagoa by teams of policemen and operatives of the state-owned security outfit, ‘Operation Doo Akpo’.

Among those arrested were five leaders of the protesting youths. Those arrested were detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department and underwent interrogation for their roles in the protest.

Numbering over 150, the unemployed graduates staged a peaceful protest in the state capital over the State Government’s alleged neglect and insensitivity to their plights. They had earlier given a 30-day ultimatum to Governor Seriake Dickson to lift the embargo on employment into the civil service to absorb them.

The protesters, under the aegis of Unemployed Graduates Forum of Bayelsa, claimed they had made efforts to meet with some top government officials to resolve the crisis. They said their efforts were fruitless as the one-month ultimatum given to the government to create 20,000 jobs for jobless graduates had lapsed without a shift in position by the government.

There was stampede at the Yenizue-Gene area of Yenagoa as the police sent reenforcements to the area with about 10 vans and arrested over 30 persons while the rest fled.

The protesters, who were dressed in white T-shirts with inscriptions, “We need jobs”, “Give us jobs”, said they would not be intimidated by the arrest of their members.

The spokesperson of protesters, Anthony Joseph, a mechanical engineering graduate, said that they had notified the Bayelsa State Police Command Command of the protest three weeks earlier.

“We are fighting a just cause, most of our graduates have been unemployed for between five, seven years and 10 years. We have met the Commissioner for Science and Technology and other top government functionaries in the state on the need to create jobs for us but all efforts proved abortive. Government should come and ameliorate our plight. We are pleading with government to create jobs for us. They should release our detained members,” Mr. Joseph said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command,Alex Akhigbe, confirmed the arrest of the protesters, saying they were being interrogated. Mr. Akhigbe recalled that the group had informed the Police Command of their protest but said that the permit was not granted.

PoliticsKidnappers Demand N50m To Free Monarch Abducted In Bayelsa. by TariEnoch(op): 9:40am On Aug 29, 2012
A source in the palace disclosed that the abductors called the traumatised wife of the King at about 3AM on Monday and made the ransom demand. The source noted that members of the victim’s family and some elders were keeping vigil at the palace when the gunmen contacted the family. “Since this incident occurred, the wife has not been able to sleep. She was at the palace with some community elders when someone called and said he was part of a gang holding Seiba hostage since Saturday when he was abducted around 2AM. He said we must provide N50million ransom for the monarch to be freed. He, however, said the abductors gave the wife an opportunity to speak to the victim, ending speculations that the monarch might have been killed. According to the source, said the kidnappers did not give an ultimatum of when the money must be provided, describing the amount demanded as outrageous. But the police and the State Security Service said they had intensified the search for the victim. Though the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr.
Fidelis Odunna, said he had not been officially
briefed on the ransom demand, a top security
source confirmed it to our correspondent

Politics2 Students Jailed 4 Yrs For Stealing Okada. by TariEnoch(op): 4:02am On Aug 24, 2012

PoliticsBayelsa State Assembly Sacked Five Lga Chairmen. by TariEnoch(op): 9:22pm On Aug 08, 2012
The current Government in the state is a Government
of illegalities. What right do they have to remove
Local Government Chairmen? Severally, the courts
have ruled that Local Government Chairmen can only
be removed through impeachment by their
Councillors. The last Assembly removed Hon. Ebiketein Diongoli, he went to court and the court
ruled that the House lack the powers to remove him.
He was therefore returned as Chairman of
Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Council. This
current Assembly has done thesame thing and the
Governor who is a Lawyer has perpetrated thesame illegality. I am not surprised because the current state
Government is known for perpetrating illegalities.
The Government of Seriake Henry Dickson has
perpetrated more illegalities in six months than Sylva
did in five years. This Government should not forget
history so fast that those who remove people illegally are equally removed illegally.
I want you all to express your take on
this if actually the State Assembly has the
constitutional right to sack elected Chairmen of LGA.
SportsSeven Cameroon Athletes Gone Missing: by TariEnoch(op): 6:51pm On Aug 08, 2012
Seven competitors from Cameroon have gone missing at the London Olympics and British police have been informed, a spokeswoman for Games organizers LOCOG confirmed Wednesday. The Cameroon team informed LOCOG that the competitors had left the Athletes' Village on the Olympic Park and asked for assistance in tracking them down, spokeswoman Jackie Brock-Doyle said. "They have written to us to say that these athletes have left the village and left their accommodation and can we help," she told journalists. "So we have informed the Met (London's Metropolitan Police) and we are going to do something. "They have been reported as missing but they have visas to stay in this country until November, so right now they haven't done anything wrong." The state daily Cameroon Tribune reported that the seven were five boxers, one swimmer and one woman football player. The head of Cameroon's Olympics delegation, David Ojong, was quoted as saying that "28 (delegation members) returned to Cameroon, 24 are still in the (Olympic) Village and seven have defected". The sports ministry of the west African country and its high commission in London have both declined to comment. Cameroon team officials at the Olympics did not respond to requests for comment. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said he had no comment to make. Cameroon has not won any medals at the London Games, which end Sunday.
