Jobs/Vacancies / USA Firm Set To Train 50,000 Nigerian Youths On Competitive Skills by Tariqoboh: 7:45pm On May 16, 2022
A United States-Nigerian Technology Company, WRKR Technology Inc., has promised to train 50,000 Nigerians on its skills that would make them globally competitive for employment opportunities.

WRKR is a technology company that unlocks access to work opportunities, making it easier for people to securely store and share their skills and employment data.

Founder/CEO of WRKR Technology Inc, Mr. Preston Obadan, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Saturday, said the training would be for both graduates and undergraduates in the country. He added that the company was on a mission to equip 50,000 young people across Nigeria campuses, by assessing and upgrading their skills for existing jobs, and those yet to be created.

He said the aim was to reduce the level of unemployment in Nigeria and other African countries.“We are Africa’s first work outcomes company. Largely, what we do is providing skills and employment data by enabling companies to discover, recruit onboard, and manage talents faster.“

What we see in Africa is that we have a lot of issues centered around employment, from the unemployment rate in Nigeria and underemployment of people whose jobs can barely sustain.“A company’s growth is measured by productivity, and if a person is not functioning optimally, it means there is no growth in your company.

“For us at WRKR, we are passionate about people, we are building technologies to drive this growth in people, enabling them to manage their skills and employment records better, giving them access to the kind of global opportunities and employment marketplace.”

Obadan said the company, in line with its mandate, had launched a program called  Future Workforce, a one-stop shop for young people. He said the mission of the program was to upgrade the skill set of 50,000 young people across universities in Nigeria, through relevant training, internships, and work experiences.

He said the Programme was largely targeted at fresh graduates and undergraduates, to get access to the right set of tools and resources and enable them to take the global jobs.“The future workforce program is a youth employment initiative with WRKR Technology Inc, Nigerian Universities, and private partners in the United States.

“The technology that we are building, our purpose is actually building people.“In doing that, we need to understand these people’s problems, and how to better address their problems.

“The government has been saying this for over two decades –skill acquisition programs- how many are in existence now? Where are these skills?“But to be honest,  are these skills acquisitions actually benefiting the community?“ For us at WRKR, we like to think we are a for-profit-for-benefit organization and if the people that we are creating technology for are not able to be better, or grow better, there is no point in going further. “So, WRKR is a club-based mobile platform and basically, we enable employers and candidates to effectively share skills and employment data while also optimizing the process of discovering, recruiting on board, and managing talents.“ At the heart of what we do is people, and the future workforce program is a multi-stakeholder engagement between companies and institutions in Nigeria and the United States of America.“This will enhance the productivity of young people and provide them with resources to better their chance of finding work now and in the future, ” he added.

The Programme Manager, Future Workforce, Daniel Oyekanmi, said the major aim of the firm was to solve job problems in Nigeria and other African countries, by training and upscaling people for jobs.

Oyekanmi said the training was  free, as participants would also be given a career kit.“We are training graduates for employers. We have a platform where employees meet, including interns.“The training is free, our target is over 50 000 participants.

We deliver a career kit, which a participant is to pay one dollar to get the kit.“For example, we want NNPC to be able to hire talent at the get-go and a right kind of talent as against putting a call for 1,000 then you have 10,000 or 20,000 people applying for the job.“But if we have a process that streamlines, gives you the best candidate, and also gives the candidate the best kind of opportunity, this makes it easier, ” he added.

He, however, advised those interested to apply online through.. https://digitalskil.com/usa-firm-set-to-train-50000-nigerian-youths-on-competitive-skills-for-employment-opportunities/

Business / What You Should Know About Geep's Interest-free Loan by Tariqoboh: 4:37pm On May 10, 2022
One of the five NSIP programs is the Government Enterprise Empowerment Program (GEEP). GEEP was established in 2016 with the goal of providing interest-free and collateral-free lending to Nigeria's millions of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). So far, the initiative has used three loan products to help small and medium-sized businesses.

The program's current loan products are MarketMoni, TraderMoni, and FarmerMoni.

1. MarketMoni: MarketMoni was GEEP's initial loan product. It's a 6-month interest-free loan for small businesses under the aegis of their cooperative societies or market organizations, starting at N50,000 ($139). This loan product has aided small business owners in expanding their operations while providing a convenient repayment schedule.

2. TraderMoni: This is GEEP's entry-level lending product. It's a 6-month interest-free loan for modest traders and artists, starting at N10,000 ($28). This loan is for the everyday market trader who makes a living off of what they sell on a daily basis and has a product inventory of N2,000 to N5,000. This loan gives them a systematic strategy to increase their inventory while repaying the debt right away. The majority of those who benefit from this loan are first-time borrowers from a formal financial institution.

Education / ASUU Strike Continues As Union Confirms Extension Of Strike By 3 Months by Tariqoboh: 10:51am On May 09, 2022
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has refused to end its warning strike and has extended it by 3 months without any delay.

This was confirmed by the President of the Union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, and monitored by Digital Information.

The decision was made by the striking lecturers at an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting convened at the ASUU Secretariat in Abuja.

The emergency meeting began on Sunday and finished early Monday morning, with major officials and branch chairmen in attendance.

On February 14, members of the union began a one-month strike in protest of the Nigerian government's inability to honor different agreements signed with them.

ASUU's demands include the release of university revitalization money, renegotiation of the 2009 Nigerian government and ASUU agreement, the release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and the implementation of the UTAS payment platform for the payment of university lecturers' wages and allowances.

The union went ahead and declared an additional eight weeks of industrial action after the initial four-week warning strike ended, claiming that it was giving the government enough time to address its demands. Education / We Still Don't Know Why ASUU Is On Strike, FG Says by Tariqoboh: 10:00am On May 05, 2022
The federal government has stated that it is still unaware of the grounds for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) continued strike.

This was because it was said that colleges founded and supported by state governments had no right to join federal universities on strike if the action was over issues that the union alleged.

Speaking in Abuja, Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, also reminded the union that it lacked basic rights to tell the government how members' salaries should be paid by the government as their employer.

He said that the federal government has limited resources and that it cannot borrow money to pay ASUU, claiming that the government can only borrow money to construct infrastructure such as railways and other essential infrastructure, from which it will receive a return.

"Neither you nor I can explain why they (ASUU) have chosen to go on strike," he told reporters in response to inquiries about the federal government's and ASUU's standoff.

“In the school system, we have about 2.6 million Nigerian undergraduates in the nearly 200 universities across Nigeria. The federal government owns less than 50 of these universities. State governments own nearly 50 of them as well whereas private people, private organizations, and faith-based organizations own over 100 of them.

The only part where children are not in school at the moment is the ones that belong to the federal government. So there is no need for any other university to be at home,” he said.

Nwajiuba explained that” The engagement with Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has been a long drawn one, based on the 2009 agreement that was signed before we came into government.

It is our duty as government to give life to those agreements that ASUU rightly seeks to make sure that the universities that the federal government owns are properly funded.

“The federal government’s funding is very limited and because of the additional challenges of security, it had to repeatedly borrow money to finance projects. This same borrowing is not available to build social infrastructure, it’s only available to build infrastructure that government can get a return from, like railways.

To borrow and pay people is normally not what World Bank or other financial institutions borrow money for.

However, the federal government has continued to address this by paying the salaries that are due.”

Education / ASUU Strike: UNILAG Students Summons Courage, Set To Protest Lingering Strike by Tariqoboh: 4:55pm On May 03, 2022
Following a planned demonstration by a group of students over the Academic Staff Union of Universities' lingering strike action, a team of security personnel, including men from the Nigeria Police Force, were stationed outside the main gate of the University of Lagos, Akoka.

Student organizations had previously called for nationwide protests on Tuesday. The University of Ibadan main gate, UNILAG main gate, and many sites in Edo State were mentioned in part of the fliers.

A heavy security force was spotted at UNILAG's main gate this morning. Some students gathered outside the main gate of the University of Ibadan under the banner of the "Fund Education Coalition," with captions such as "we say no to commercialization of education," "every one of us must rise to defend education," and "we stand with ASUU revitalization demand."

The unions' strike, now in its fourth month after starting at the beginning of the year, has forced public institutions in the country to close, supposedly because the Nigerian Government had failed to meet the lecturers' demands.
Education / ASUU STRIKE: Education Minister Reveals Why Striking Lecturers Won't Be Paid by Tariqoboh: 12:27pm On May 03, 2022
Emeka Nwajiuba, the Honorable Minister of State for Education, has warned that members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities should not continue to earn wages and salaries while on strike.

"The lecturers have continued to earn wages while on strike; it doesn't make sense to earn salary when you have refused to work," Nwajiuba said in a phone interview with Punch Newspaper on Sunday, May 1st.

Recall that ASUU has been on strike since the start of this year over a number of unsolved grievances, including the union's insistence on using the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a preferred payment method rather than the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) by the Nigerian government.

Countless efforts by the union and the Nigerian government to reach an agreement have failed.

The minister said.. https://digitalskil.com/ASUU-strike-education-minister-reveals-why-striking-lecturers-wont-be-paid/

Education / 2022 UTME: JAMB Directs Applicants To Start Printing Notification Slips by Tariqoboh: 3:43pm On Apr 30, 2022
On Saturday, April 30, 2022, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) advised all applicants taking the 2022 exams to begin printing their notification slips.

The exam body issued the decision in a statement signed by Fabian Benjamin, the board's Head of Public Affairs and Protocol.

JAMB has announced that students who have enrolled for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can begin printing their notification slips.

“The notification slip is available for printing by all candidates who had registered for the 2022 UTME scheduled to hold from Friday, 6th May 2022 to 14th May 2022.

“Printing of examination notification slips is compulsory for all candidates, as it enables them to know the venue, date, session, and time of their examination.

“All candidates are advised to print slips on time so as to know the location of their examination centers, date of their scheduled sessions, and time of the examination beforehand, especially with the adjustment in examination schedules this year.

“This would guide them in making necessary arrangements ahead of the exercise as the board frowns at lateness to its examination and no excuses would be entertained from any candidate, as a stitch in time saves nine.”

JAMB stated that slips may be printed at any public or private internet location and that candidates could go to https://www.jamb.gov.ng, click on 2022 UTME slip printing, enter their registration number, and print.

The exam body also stated that the slip provided vital information for candidates such as their registration number, examination center within their chosen examination town, and planned arrival time.

In keeping with its "No biometric verification, no examination" policy, JAMB underlined that all applicants will be checked into the test hall using the Biometric Verification Machine (BVM), which also served as a register of attendance.

The Nigerian government has approved an increase in the cost of school lunch from N70 to N100, as well as the training of 42 cooks under the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).

The goal of the training is to increase their performance and provide a healthy and sanitary experience for children. The title of the project is tagged 'Nationwide Documentation and Training of Master Cooks on NHGSFP'.

Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, spoke at the event in Lokoja, saying the training aimed to improve the cooks' ability to provide safe and nutritional meals for kids.

The minister, who was represented by Susan Simpa, the NHGSFP's nutritional assistant, stated that the 42 trainees would return to their respective local governments following the course to train others.

According to her, two cooks were chosen from each of Kogi's 21 local governments, who will then train 20 cooks in their respective communities.

Career / "Focus More On Skills, Not Certificates" - Pantami Advises Youths by Tariqoboh: 3:52pm On Apr 29, 2022
Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has emphasized the importance of focusing government at all levels and other government institutions on skills rather than 'certificates.'

He believes it will go a long way toward not just producing additional job opportunities but also addressing unemployment issues and, as a result, resolving the country's employment difficulties.

Pantami, who spoke during the prize presentation event and Grand Finale of the Katsina National Talent Hunt Challenge in Katsina on Tuesday, also asked the competition's organizers to preserve a record and database of all competitors for easier mentorship.

However, Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari emphasized the competition's goal, which he described as encouraging innovation and developing the state's and country's youth's potential skills and innovators.

Crime / Lagos Government Reopens Chrisland School Amid Sex-tape Drama by Tariqoboh: 11:05am On Apr 23, 2022
The Lagos State Government has ordered the restoration of all Chrisland Schools, which had been closed due to controversy surrounding an immoral behavior committed by some of the school's students.

According to a Punch report, the Lagos State Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, stated this in a press statement.

On April 18, 2022, the Lagos State government ordered the closure of all Chrisland Schools.

When the unethical behavior occurred, some students from an exclusive private school in Victoria Garden City were on their way to Dubai to compete in the World School Games between March 10 and 13, 2022.

Following the drama, school officials placed a female student on indefinite suspension, claiming she was "the main actor" in an "immoral act."

The government stated that the Parent Teachers Association at the school would be working on providing scheduled psychosocial help to the pupils who committed the immoral act.

Business / How To Download NPF Microfinance App Without Playstore Or Appstore by Tariqoboh: 10:15am On Apr 23, 2022
In this post, I will show you how to download the NPF microfinance app without using either Google Playstore or Appstore. I understand many people have been searching for ways to get or download the NPF microfinance app since it has been deleted from the play store due to maintenance and upgrading reasons.

Using the app to log in to your account is the best option as it would display your account balance and many other features that can't be possible with internet banking.

For example, when you log in to your account using the bank's internet banking, you won't see your account balance. This has gotten many NYIF beneficiaries to panic prompting them to ask different questions on Facebook and Twitter.

Are you an NYIF beneficiary? Have you recently gotten loan approval? Has NPF microfinance credited your account? If all these questions have something to relate to you then you're in the right place.

As I've said before, this post will tell you how to download the NPF microfinance banking app.

Note: You can still use Internet banking to log in to your account but the money that was credited into your account will not be visible. That means; you can't access the funds even if you logged in.

This is why using the app is the ideal decision. And that's why I have written this post to help those in need.

As this post is intended to help beneficiaries of NYIF, you're highly advised to share it with others after downloading the app for the sake of those who may be having such challenges.

Before you download the app, make sure you have granted your phone permission to install apps from an unknown source. Alternatively, you can do that after you've downloaded the app.

Your app is waiting!

Follow the below link to download your app and grant permission to install it from an unknown source..https://digitalskil.com/how-to-download-npf-microfinance-app-without-playstore-or-appstore/
