Politics / From Cancelation To “victory” The Abracadabra Of The Fct Senatorial Election. by techdaddycool: 8:14pm On Mar 16, 2023 |
FROM CANCELATION TO “VICTORY” THE ABRACADABRA OF THE FCT SENATORIAL ELECTION. “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” - George Orwell. As most of The 36 states making up the Federal Republic of Nigeria prepare for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections, it is pertinent to study the “‘37th’ State”; only considered ‘A State’ when it pertains to qualifications of the 25% of a Presidential bid. This is The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), whose status of statehood is called upon when deemed fit. The FCT unlike any other state has one elected Senator and two members of The Federal House of Representatives; Making it the least territory with federal representation in the country. It is unfortunate that an area with almost two times the land mass of Lagos state is classified as one senatorial district. Somehow forgetting that that land mass is occupied by people of different customs/traditions and therefore need their interests adequately represented. Moving away from this constitutional injustice, the Senate race In the FCT was keenly anticipated and one to watch out for as it had the Four (4) major political parties were properly represented. On the most anticipated Election Day, the atmosphere in the nation’s capital which was most likely going to set the pace for the rest of the country: Elections began staggered in almost all the Area Councils as INEC faced a barrage of logistical problems, even in the municipal area. How INEC who assured Nigerians of their preparedness did not anticipate and prepare for logistical issues are beyond us. Unsurprisingly, most Areas Council’s election materials arrived late, some incomplete and some did not arrive at all, this obviously set the course for massive disenfranchisement. The PVC collection rate as announced by INEC was over 90% but by the time final election results were released the turn out rate was below 25%. The Tenor of this election begs the question, was the percentage of turn out low or was the electorates disenfranchised? This may be elucidated that the low turnout was not because the FCT constituents did not come out to vote, but may very well be a well coordinated and arranged plan that had a preconceived ripple effect around the territory. In spite of all these challenges the resilient people of the FCT ensured that they exercise their constitutional right by casting their votes; defying long lines, logistical and accreditation issues. Election process in most parts of the FCT were still ongoing till the early hours of Sunday morning and some elections that same Saturday were totally cancelled in some areas by evening due to irregularities. During this upheaval, it came as a suprise when by 6pm on Election Day, while voting was still ongoing in a lot of wards and almost area councils some certain candidates had already starting declaring themselves as winners of the election in the FCT. The real propaganda machinery kicked in and unrealistic and unverified results flooded social media. The mob kicked in and began to challenge a process that was barely completed and as we look back, this seems to be the all orchestrated to play out this way As collation continued there were so many discrepancies that it was impossible for even forensic experts to tell how INEC had arrived at such. The candidate of the Labour party released a video where she played down this discrepancies, she claimed it was just an error that everyone could see. The returning officers for BWARI and ABAJI area councils had raised the issues and refused to accept the results. The Returning officer for the FCT professor Sani Saka had also rejected the results which were presented at the FCT coalition center. But Labour party immediately began to blackmail and attacks the professor who was only carrying out his duties In accordance with the laid out procedures and guidelines of The Electoral Act. Without addressing the issues and following the guidelines and processes of the electoral act; the returning officer, On Tuesday the 28th of February announced the Labour party candidate as the winner of the elections. At the point of the announcement only 1216 out of 2822 results had been uploaded on the IREV portal. This means or show results in less than 50% of the FCT were available, of which discrepancies in the results uploaded were glaring. From mutilated result sheets to pictures of individuals uploaded as results. We saw results that seemed like they were from elections in 2003 reappear at the collation center It is unfortunate that the process of the general elections in the FCT which should not be credible enough to elect the senior prefect of a secondary school or the chairman of a motor parks association, has been used to elect the highest federal representative available to them. Another baffling outcome of this bastardized elections, is that the supposed winners have continued to call press conferences and attack the process that made them emerge victorious. They have continually accused the electoral umpire of trying to change a result that has already been declared. It is unfortunate that in 2023 we could witness such an electoral jamboree, even after INEC claims to have been very well prepared with their technology. We hope that INEC will do better in subsequent elections in other jurisdictions. The Nigerian populace and the people of FCT want a free and fair electoral process and not an expensive live Harry Houdini show. 1 Like |

Politics / Underwhelming Handling Of Overwhelming Catastrophic Floods In Nigeria. by techdaddycool: 11:26am On Oct 21, 2022 |
UNDERWHELMING HANDLING OF OVERWHELMING CATASTROPHIC FLOODS IN NIGERIA. Save ----- Our----- Souls BY: Eben Dokubo Superlatives are insufficient to capture and portray the on-going carnage, devastation, ruin, despair, and anguish unleashed on various parts of Nigeria by unprecedented floods. Torrents of large volumes of ravaging water bulldoze their way from a gigantic dam in the neighboring country of Cameroon on a journey to the Atlantic ocean which can only be accessed via vast swathes of land comprising villages, farms, cities, pristine forests, and swamps. Amongst the affected States are Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Kogi, and Benue. Others include Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Imo. Most of the flooded areas in these States have been submerged in up to two meters of water for several weeks. It is expected that it might take another six to ten weeks for the flood waters to dissipate, leaving in its wake a trail of horrendous destruction. Put together, the affected area is tens of thousands of square kilometers. Hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children are facing fear, hunger, starvation, disease and desperation. They are shell- shocked and displaced, destitute and dying an agonizing slow death. There is no electricity. Rare tropical plants, flowers, wildlife, domestic animals, and livestock have either been destroyed or forced out of their natural habitat. The best efforts of Federal, State, and Local Government authorities have only scratched the surface. Most of the affected areas are inaccessible and incommunicado. For an ongoing widespread disaster of this magnitude, an urgent global response is imperative. Consequently, an ad-hoc global consortium ought to emerge instantly to save souls and present a lifeline for rescue, revival, rebooting, rebuilding, and restoration. The following are are amongst items and services required urgently in no particular order) Potable water in sachets and bottles MRE ( meals ready to eat) protein and vitamin fortified crackers. (The type of rations used by the military in combat zones) Inflatable boats Bailey bridges ( can be procured off the shelf, air lifted to Nigeria and installed within days) Helicopter services with amphibious and Search & Rescue capabilities Barges and Tugboats Speed boats Four-wheel drive trucks Drones for aerial survey, monitoring, and delivery of critical supplies. Mobile field hospitals with trauma and theater facilities. (as in M*A*S*H*) Portable electric generators Tents Solar power units Disinfectants Soap Baby food Baby clothes Pampers Toys Oral Rehydration Therapy kits Sanitary pads Sanitizers Sweaters Socks Water purification units Water purification tablets Light weight blankets Adult clothes Loin cloths and wrappers Unlimited fast internet access Smartphones Building materials Mattresses Mosquito nets Pillows Rechargeable lamps Power banks Rain boots Drugs and pharmaceutical supplies Satellite maps and photos of affected areas ( NOW & BEFORE images) The hardest hit Triangle of Horror are Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States which constitute the gateway to the Atlantic ocean. Following the outbreak of the Corona virus pandemic, the world rallied round to combat the scruge. The WHO provided a template which Nigeria used. We do not have a template for monster floods. Our ingenuity will be of help but we cannot go it alone. WE NEED URGENT GLOBAL INTERVENTION. !!! |

Health / Does Having One Miscarriage Mean It Will Happen Again? by techdaddycool: 8:20am On Sep 08, 2014 |
You, or someone you know has just had a miscarriage and the effects are devastating. You find yourself asking questions, wanting to know why that miscarriage happened and if it’s normal. If you lost your baby, you are probably thinking, “what is wrong with me?” “What did I do wrong?” You are also probably wondering if it’s going to affect your next pregnancy. This reaction is completely natural. And we want to let you know that There is nothing wrong with you. A lot of women have miscarriages and go on to have perfectly healthy pregnancies afterward. Actually, 85 percent of women who have had previous miscarriages have carried their next pregnancies to term. Yes, this is cold comfort and it might not make you feel better if you’ve just had a miscarriage, but it’s something to think about. As heartbreaking as it is to lose a pregnancy, Doctors believe that it’s normal and will not start looking into possible causes until a woman has miscarried three or more times. Even though there are cases where that happens, they are actually very low. What is a miscarriage? A miscarriage is known medically as a Self Aborting Pregnancy (SAP) and it is said to happen when a pregnancy terminates before the fetus is viable. A fetus is said to be viable only when it can survive outside the womb and this is not until the 20th week of pregnancy in the US and the 23rd week in the UK. Miscarriages are quite common, but they can be really traumatic and devastating. How to know the signs of a possible miscarriage If the pregnant woman is spotting or bleeding, then she is very likely having a miscarriage. There are also some other signs to look out for such as: Sharp pain and cramping in the abdomen Liquid discharge from the vagina Feeling faint, light-headed or dizzy Tissue discharge from the vagina If you or any pregnant woman you know is experiencing any of the signs above, go immediately to a hospital. If you’ve had a miscarriage, don’t let it destroy your life. Statistics show that half of all pregnancies are miscarried in the first trimester and that majority go on to have successful pregnancies which are carried to full term afterward. And even those who have had two miscarriages still go on to have successful pregnancies afterward – 75 percent of them - via http://www.naijahousewives.com/does-having-one-miscarriage-mean-it-will-happen-again/

Fashion / Skin Care Tips For Nigerian Women by techdaddycool: 10:27am On Sep 06, 2014 |
Taking care of your skin is important. One secret to looking good is a healthy skin. Also don’t forget that one of the first signs of aging begins with the skin. So pay attention to these tips for clear, healthy and youthful looking skin. Understand your skin type This is key to knowing how to treat your skin. Skin type has nothing to do with complexion and is more about whether you have dry skin or oily skin. If you have oily skin, then moisturizing on a regular basis is doing you more harm than good and if your skin type is dry and you are not moisturizing regularly, your skin will give you trouble. Use a Simple and Safe Daily Care Routine for your face Here’s the thing, it’s not about washing your face with soap and then heading out to face your day; you need to give your face more attention that that. And if you sleep with make up on, may heaven forgive you! When it comes to your face, have a simple care routine. Use a gentle cleanser, wipe a toner on your face and neck if you want to and then moisturize. The frequency with which you do this would depend on your skin type. Protect your skin from the harsh sun The Nigerian sun can be harsh and as a Nigerian woman, you need to learn how to protect your skin from the UV rays. Just because your skin tone is dark does not mean that the sun cannot damage your skin. It just means that you don’t see the damage, which is worse. So always use a cream that has sun protection. (Hint: Shea butter contains sun screen and can be used when you’re going out in the sun. Read this post for more on Shea butter) Don’t go out into direct sunlight if you can help it and if you need to be outside, use a small umbrella to protect your skin. Your 80 year old self will thank you! Use make up that suits your skin These days Nigerian women don’t have to suffer in silence; we have lots of make up and cosmetic products that are made for women of color so stick with those. They’re good for your skin. Love yourself and show your skin some love! If you have any more tips, feel free to share them with us Via: http://www.naijahousewives.com/skin-care-tips-for-nigerian-women/#sthash.85cS7sCT.dpuf

Phones / How To Check Your Nigerian Postal Code by techdaddycool: 7:26am On Sep 05, 2014 |
Filling a form online and you end up with the same problem every time; you can’t leave the space for a postal code empty. Well your problem is solved, you can check your postal code now in less than 2 minutes! The history of the post in Nigeria dates back to 19th century. The first post office was established by the British Colonial Masters in 1852. It was considered to be a part of the British postal system. The Nigerian postal service, commonly known as NIPOST is still running till date and mails can be sent and received, although with the advancement in technology most mails are sent electronically. There’s also the fact that for some time, most people lost faith in the public system and so prefer to use private courier services. Nevertheless the service still works and under the ministry of information and communication, it has been revamped and is quite effective. NIPOST still offers a lot of services which include: Mail Services Counter Services EMS Speed Post Phliatelley Parcel Post Financial Services Special Delivery Private Mail Bag Nipost Logistics Postal Media Bulk Post With a goal to provide affordable, reliable and efficient postal service nationwide and worldwide, they have some online tools which help in them identify the mailing and postal related needs of their various customers and rational allocation of resources. These include: Postal code finder Post office locator Post office box locator To find your postal code: Go to http://www.nipost.gov.ng Under online tools click on post code finder Then select the state Next up select the Town The next one selects the Area Last of all select street and click on the get post code button Your post code appears. via-http://www.netoppsdigest.com/how-to-check-your-nigerian-postal-code/ |
Fashion / Natural Hair Tips From Someone Who’s Been There by techdaddycool: 7:17am On Sep 05, 2014 |
The gorgeous Joyce Daniels is the CEO of Talklogenic International Ltd. She is a professional Master of Ceremonies and her sense of style is incredible. She is a real Naija Housewife, managing a busy career and a successful home life. She’s not only booked most weekends (and weekdays too), she also runs Talkademy; a school for Masters of Ceremonies and is a certified Dale Carnegie trainer. This wonderful woman has lived the natural lifestyle for 3 years and shares her tips with us. As I celebrate 3 full years of being completely natural, I thought to share a few tips with some of my nappy sisters, especially those who may be at crossroads or just tired of ‘the whole natural thing’… I started what I called a ‘life style change’ in 2007, which included shedding 15kg (77kg to 62kg)off my weight, consuming less/fewer ‘chemical products’ like coke and margarine, to using less/fewer chemical products like relaxers and antiperspirant deodorants… I actually started my natural hair journey in 2009 with a complete chop off (very near bald)… so #1 tip would be – ‘have a good reason, a plan & give it time’… via -http://www.naijahousewives.com/natural-hair-tips-from-someone-whos-been-there/ I began to use texturisers for some time in 2010/2011 (as I thought my hair was just too hard), but realised it was the same old relaxing and relaxer I was running away from in the 1st place, so I started all over again in 2011 (chopping off the texturised bit). Therefore my #2 tip is ‘remember why you went natural in the 1st place and stick with it’. I also realised that the more I talked about my hair being difficult, the more difficult it was; but when I began to think and say ‘my hair is manageable’, I truly began to find my hair was easier to manage. So, #3 tip….’stay positive’. At some point I was getting worried that I wasn’t using the right products, or I wasn’t doing enough (especially with ALL the stuff on natural hair blogs), so I spent a little fortune trying to get ‘good stuff’, (which by the way seemed to contain a lot of the chemicals I was running away from in the 1st place). Now, I use a simple NATURAL mix of Niger state-produced Shea butter and Akwa Ibom-fresh coconut oil (for my hair and body) and my hair’s absolutely lovely. Soooooo, my #4 tip- ‘keep it simple’, try new products from time to time, but under no pressure…. My hair shrinks quite fast so I don’t always leave it out… I braid, weave, use wigs and thread. I save the fro for ‘special occasions’… #5 tip – understand your own hair and stick with what works for you. We DON’T all have the same texture… One of the reasons I went natural in the 1st place was to avoid spending sooooo much time (and money) on the hair, so I use wigs quite often as they save me time and the whole drama of thinking of what next to do. So, #6 tip – have a standby wig or 2, for when you just don’t have the time (or money)…. With these few points of mine (in my debate-type voice) I hope I’ve been able to help someone somehow You can find our more about Joyce from her website: JoyceDaniels.net or follow her on Facebook too: Facebook.com/joycedaniels 1 Like

Health / 10 Foods To Avoid During Pregnancy by techdaddycool: 4:05pm On Sep 04, 2014 |
When you are pregnant, there are always people who are filled with good intentions telling you what to do and what not to do. As annoying as it can sometimes be, most of them mean the best for you. Among the plenty advice you get is what you should eat now that you are ‘eating for two.’ What we discovered is that very few people know what they should NOT eat during pregnancy and some of these foods are so dangerous to pregnant women that they can lead to a miscarriage. So we are going to list these foods here and explain to you why you should stay away from them. We want to help you keep your baby safe while he or she is growing inside you. Foods to Avoid Raw or Partially Cooked Meat Avoid raw meat during pregnancy Always make sure that your meat is very well cooked; there should be no trace of red or pink on your meat. This goes for poultry too. Raw or under cooked meat often contains bacteria which can cause infection and is harmful to the baby. If you buy already-made or packaged meat like Corned beef, sausages and the like, make sure you read the label to know whether the meat is fully cooked or under cooked. Raw or Partially Cooked Eggs Raw or partially cooked eggs should also be avoided. This is because they can cause salmonella food poisoning. If you want to eat eggs, make sure they are thoroughly cooked. If you make your own mayonnaise or ice cream and you use raw eggs, stay away from them during the period of your pregnancy. For ice cream, you can get around the raw egg problem by adding the raw eggs to the mixture and then heating it thoroughly. You can then allow the mixture to cool down before making your ice cream. Caffeine coffee Too much caffeine is not good for your baby. This can cause miscarriage, still birth, premature birth, low birth weight and other serious problems in an unborn baby. Caffeine has been linked to birth defects in infants. A certain amount of caffeine is okay, but is should not be more than 200mg a day. Caffeine can be found in coffee, cola products and some other drinks. Unwashed Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Fresh fruits and vegetables are healthy and are often recommended for expectant mothers. However, always make sure you wash your fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consuming. Some of these contain topsoil, which could lead to the risk of toxoplasmosis when consumed. It should be noted though that the incidences of toxoplasmosis in pregnant women are extremely low. Some Types of Fish Some fish contain mercury which can be very harmful to your unborn baby. Mercury is so dangerous to your baby that it can damage the developing nervous system. These fish include Marlin, Swordfish and Shark, among others. Some other types of fish you should avoid (or eat very little of) are those that are oily such as fresh tuna, mackerel, salmon, sardines and trout. These are safe to eat, but you should not eat too much of them. Actually, raw fish of any kind should be avoided. So if you are a Sushi fan, say bye-bye to that for the months you are pregnant. Raw shellfish in particular can contain harmful bacteria and viruses, which can lead to food poisoning. Vitamin A /Fish Oil Supplements Stay away from supplements and fish oil products that contain high levels of Vitamin A. This can be harmful to your baby find out why Liver Avoid liver and liver-based products at all costs when you are pregnant as they are high in Vitamin A, which can be harmful to your baby. Alcohol There is a total and complete embargo on alcohol during pregnancy. Do not drink alcoholic beverages when you are pregnant. There is no way around this, just stay away from alcohol. The potential damage caused by alcohol to the unborn baby is just tragic. It can affect the development of the baby and even lead to what is known as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Birth disorders can also be traced to exposure of the fetus to alcohol. Fruits with High Acidic Makeup This is one you don’t hear about very often, but it is a real threat to pregnancy especially in the first trimester. Most of us already know that lime and lemon can be harmful to the baby and can in fact, lead to a forced abortion, but how many of us are aware that pineapple has the same effect? Pineapple is high in acidic content, which can affect the unborn baby and force an abortion. If you are in your first trimester, please stay away from Pineapples and pineapple-based products. That is it on what you should not eat while you are pregnant. This list is not exhaustive as there are certain cheeses you should avoid, unpasteurized milk and yogurt and stuff like Pate. But as long as you focus on eating healthy meals, you should be fine. ALSO you need to remember that you are NOT eating for two; that is a myth. How big is the baby inside you that it would eat as much as you do? Sure, you can eat a little more than your regular portion, but do not use your pregnancy as an excuse to overindulge; it’s only going to make shedding the baby fat after deliver much harder - See more at: http://www.naijahousewives.com/10-foods-to-avoid-during-pregnancy/#sthash.rxeaPMDu.dpuf 1 Like

If you have ever been in a situation when you need to get a copy of a document you needed and it was in a hard copy, so u have to look for a photocopier, or maybe you don’t just like carrying a lot of papers around and you look so disorganized in the morning, worry no more! CamScanner CamScanner is one of the most popular mobile apps for “scanning” , it has a lot of features and is a delight for most users, it has very high ratings and it looks like an app you should try. Google Drive Most people use Google drive for cloud storage services but it also a document scanner, it also enhances the image quality, it saves it as PDF and updates it to your Google drive and by searching you drive for text related to the document you will be able to locate it. Religion / Good Things Will Happen In September by techdaddycool: 11:05am On Sep 03, 2014 |
Good morning everyone! Welcome to the month of September. August was an interesting month here at Naija Housewives’ and the site got a face lift (what do you think of our new website by the way?) So we’re now in a new month and there’s the temptation to drag the baggage and issues of the month before into this new month. You can’t help it if the challenges of August are still here in September, and we are not asking you to ignore the realities on ground. What you need to do is change the way you face your challenges. For each one of us, there are times when life threatens to overwhelm us and it gets to the stage where you begin to wonder if things will ever get better. You might look around you now and everything seems bleak, like there’s nowhere help will come from. Whatever you are going through, this is not the time to give up. Hang in there. At the end of every storm is a rainbow. No matter how bad things seem right now, there is a turning point. There is a point you will get to that things will begin to change for the better. Believe that things will change Have a positive attitude towards your challenges And whatever you do, don’t give up! Determine in your heart that good things will happen to you this month. Believe it and hold on to it. Open up your mind and your heart to the possibility and don’t lose hope. Take a moment now and say aloud: “Good things will happen in September – to ME.” Say it as many times as you need to say it until you begin to believe it. Good things will happen to you.
