WebmastersThe World First Website Is 25 Years Old Today by techmandy(op): 6:34pm On Dec 21, 2015
Today marks the 25th birthday of the first website in the whole world. On December 20, 1990, British scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee hosted the first website in the world on his NeXT computer at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). Today marks its 25th anniversary.

After inventing the World Wide Web in 1989 as a way for institutes around the globe to share information, Berners-Lee launched the first-ever website with a description of how to set up a server and how to access content shared by others.

Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist at CERN, invented the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1989. The web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automatic information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world.

The first website at CERN - and in the world - was dedicated to the World Wide Web project itself and was hosted on Berners-Lee's NeXT computer. The website described the basic features of the web; how to access other people's documents and how to set up your own server. The NeXT machine - the original web server - is still at CERN. As part of the project to restore the first website, in 2013 CERN reinstated the world's first website to its original address.

On 30 April 1993 CERN put the World Wide Web software in the public domain. CERN made the next release available with an open licence, as a more sure way to maximise its dissemination. Through these actions, making the software required to run a web server freely available, along with a basic browser and a library of code, the web was allowed to flourish.

The Web has evolved greatly since then, with powerful apps, services and limitless sources of information about any topic you can think of. It’s fascinating to look at the humble beginnings of the internet as we know it and see how far we’ve come.

CERN still has the original server that hosted Berners-Lee’s first online creation; in 2013, it reinstated the site to its original address.

PhonesMTN Hires Seven Lawyers To Battle NCC $3.4billion Fine by techmandy(op): 5:40pm On Dec 21, 2015
The result of this MTN and NCC fine case is unpredictable. NCC claimed the fine was as a result of the disobedience of MTN concerning the blocking of unregistered sims in Nigeria whereas, MTN Nigeria CEO said MTN did nothing to be fined such huge fortune and that NCC fined MTN because of the dying Nigeria budget whereby the fine can be use to cover more than 30% of the whole Nigeria budget. Now MTN wants to go through a trial before accepting the fine saying they did nothing wrong.

The embattled South Africa telecom, MTN, has engaged seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) to fight the $3.4 billion fine imposed on it by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).

NCC had in October imposed a fine of $5.2 billion on the mobile phone provider and later reduced it to $3.44 billion after appeals and interventions.

The telecom operator was given a December 31 deadline to pay the fine for its failure to disconnect 5.2 million subscribers who did not register their SIM cards.

The company’s lead lawyer is Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) who is leading the others against the federal government and NCC before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

MTN is urging the court to quash the fine because NCC does not have the constitutional power to impose it.

According to MTN, NCC, being a regulator, cannot assume all the functions of the state on its own, considering that it made the regulation, prescribed the penalty and imposed the fine, payable to the commission and not to the federal government.

MTN claimed it was not afforded its constitutional right to a fair hearing before a court of competent jurisdiction and, more importantly, it had not been found guilty of any offence that would warrant it to pay such an outrageous fine.

MTN averred that the sanction was imposed on it by the NCC within 24 hours of its written submission on the disconnection and the impractical nature of the regulator's deadline.

The mobile operator claimed that the deadline of seven days to disconnect 5.2 million subscribers was grossly inadequate and impracticable, unfair and ran contrary to the requirement to give adequate notice to the subscribers and all operators.

The company accused the regulatory agency of acting as a legislator, executor, accuser, prosecutor, judge and beneficiary of the penalty imposed, adding that the sanction (N200,000 per SIM) imposed on it was excessive.

It insisted that the fine was the highest ever imposed on a telecommunication company worldwide, and wondered if it was commensurate with the purported breach and if it would not frustrate the business of the company in Nigeria.

Enjoined in the suit is the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.

No date has been fixed for the hearing.

MTN currently has more than 50 million subscribers on its mobile phone platform in Nigeria

Well, i am using it right now. Max speed i have clocked is a little above 400kbps. It drops way too frequently(to between 20-50kbps) but steadies at about 100-150kbps when good. About 50mins in, it stayed at approx 55kbps.
Switch off and on data at intervals to regain speed.
Really had high hopes for it cs i don arrange my downloads and i couldnt even finish one before getting bored. 55kbps is no speed to deny myself sleep for.
Overall = Not Impressed.
They delibrately did it, maybe if we complain on their twitter page, they might turn up

Data Plans provided by this service providers is getting more interesting. First it was Airtel #100 for 1gb, then Glo introduces a list of breath-taking data plans and later Mtn #300 for 3gb but now Airtel introduces another fascinating data plan.

Airtel introduced a night data plan which is favorable for heavy downloaders. The most amazing aspect of this data plan is that it is UNLIMITED [I know guys love to hear that]. So for example, if you subscribe for the 1hour plan, you can download anything you like within that time frame.

How To Subscribe To The Airtel Night Plan:
=> For 1hour plan, dial *481*1# and it cost N100
=> For 3hours plan, dial *481*2# and it cost N300
=> For 6hour plan, dial *481*3# and it cost N500.

NB: This data plan works on all devices, be it Java phones, Symbian, Android, iPad, iPad, PC e.t.c.

Madam defender of the universe, can u atleast put on ur thinking cap? or atleast try pretend u do. Is jumia same with OLX? Or u think products sold on jumia doesn't go through quality assurance stage? If im buying from OLX, why should I complain? So u telling me I can likewise market fake products on jumia to sell right? Please stop feigning ignorance and stop the stupid talk of slaving away of staffs. What has staff issue got to do with poor PR and standard on what they sell?

Kindly tell ur people to ensure they screen every product they sell properly. Even if I bought the sd card at the rate of N100, I have every right to lodge a complain. I expect much more better than this.

Truly, most Nigerians have a very stupid mentality at issues like this. Don bother replying my mention cos u no longer worth my time.

Adios

Technology MarketJumia Black Friday Scam To Nigerians. [it Is Indeed A Black Day For Nigerians] by techmandy(op): 11:14am On Dec 17, 2015
Black Friday has come and gone. Can you imagine a situation whereby you made an order and for over 3 weeks your order has not been delivered even after you made payment online. Jumia stated it clearly on their website that orders made on blackfriday might be delayed for 8 days, but now this is the 20th day and still counting. all orders made from Konga that same day got delivered 5 days after but Jumia just want to scam Nigerians. The most annoying part is that I tried to contact them on gmail, twitter, facebook, even their customer service [jumia.zendesk.com] but to my surprise they won't even reply i even went ahead to add their CEO on linkend to complain all to no avail. I ordered for 3 headphones with order number 306478537-M1079, my order as arrived at local office for over 2 weeks now and up till now no show!!! that was how i ordered for an infiinix hot note 1 month again and the phone did not even power ON, my friend ordered for an injoo max 2 plus a week after black friday and the phone did not also power ON when it was delivered. The funniest thing is that i was planing to make those headphones christmas gift to pple aroound me but guess jumia ruined my christmas this year already.

Today makes it exactly 12 days that I place an order for some items during the black friday. Though I chose pay on delivery, I do not see any reason why my items shouldnt have gotten to me by now. Its really frustrating when u neglect other online stores and decide to deal with you but making me to feel like this. It doesnt speak well of the company. Uptill now, it has not pass the stage of being "Processed", so when will it be delivered when what you claim is within "7 days" deliveryhuh?? I am patiently waiting till Thursday before I decide my next line of action if not contacted till then. My order No. is 308585737. Thank you and hope you will get back to me soonest than I expect!

This should sound as a wake up call to Jumia...... delivery of items shouldnt be this hard especially when its within the same STATE..... I have experienced these delays over and over again.

if everyone is complaining then there is a problem somewhere in the whole arrangement.

I am still waiting for an order up till now. It has been in the "arrived at local store" for more than a week and nothing has been done ever since.

Please the items are not free so why so much hassle in getting these.
