Today marks the 25th birthday of the first website in the whole world. On December 20, 1990, British scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee hosted the first website in the world on his NeXT computer at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). Today marks its 25th anniversary. After inventing the World Wide Web in 1989 as a way for institutes around the globe to share information, Berners-Lee launched the first-ever website with a description of how to set up a server and how to access content shared by others. Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist at CERN, invented the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1989. The web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automatic information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world. The first website at CERN - and in the world - was dedicated to the World Wide Web project itself and was hosted on Berners-Lee's NeXT computer. The website described the basic features of the web; how to access other people's documents and how to set up your own server. The NeXT machine - the original web server - is still at CERN. As part of the project to restore the first website, in 2013 CERN reinstated the world's first website to its original address. On 30 April 1993 CERN put the World Wide Web software in the public domain. CERN made the next release available with an open licence, as a more sure way to maximise its dissemination. Through these actions, making the software required to run a web server freely available, along with a basic browser and a library of code, the web was allowed to flourish. The Web has evolved greatly since then, with powerful apps, services and limitless sources of information about any topic you can think of. It’s fascinating to look at the humble beginnings of the internet as we know it and see how far we’ve come. CERN still has the original server that hosted Berners-Lee’s first online creation; in 2013, it reinstated the site to its original address. Get more updates like this on www.techmandy..com |
The result of this MTN and NCC fine case is unpredictable. NCC claimed the fine was as a result of the disobedience of MTN concerning the blocking of unregistered sims in Nigeria whereas, MTN Nigeria CEO said MTN did nothing to be fined such huge fortune and that NCC fined MTN because of the dying Nigeria budget whereby the fine can be use to cover more than 30% of the whole Nigeria budget. Now MTN wants to go through a trial before accepting the fine saying they did nothing wrong. The embattled South Africa telecom, MTN, has engaged seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) to fight the $3.4 billion fine imposed on it by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC). NCC had in October imposed a fine of $5.2 billion on the mobile phone provider and later reduced it to $3.44 billion after appeals and interventions. The telecom operator was given a December 31 deadline to pay the fine for its failure to disconnect 5.2 million subscribers who did not register their SIM cards. The company’s lead lawyer is Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) who is leading the others against the federal government and NCC before the Federal High Court in Lagos. MTN is urging the court to quash the fine because NCC does not have the constitutional power to impose it. According to MTN, NCC, being a regulator, cannot assume all the functions of the state on its own, considering that it made the regulation, prescribed the penalty and imposed the fine, payable to the commission and not to the federal government. MTN claimed it was not afforded its constitutional right to a fair hearing before a court of competent jurisdiction and, more importantly, it had not been found guilty of any offence that would warrant it to pay such an outrageous fine. MTN averred that the sanction was imposed on it by the NCC within 24 hours of its written submission on the disconnection and the impractical nature of the regulator's deadline. The mobile operator claimed that the deadline of seven days to disconnect 5.2 million subscribers was grossly inadequate and impracticable, unfair and ran contrary to the requirement to give adequate notice to the subscribers and all operators. The company accused the regulatory agency of acting as a legislator, executor, accuser, prosecutor, judge and beneficiary of the penalty imposed, adding that the sanction (N200,000 per SIM) imposed on it was excessive. It insisted that the fine was the highest ever imposed on a telecommunication company worldwide, and wondered if it was commensurate with the purported breach and if it would not frustrate the business of the company in Nigeria. Enjoined in the suit is the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice. No date has been fixed for the hearing. MTN currently has more than 50 million subscribers on its mobile phone platform in Nigeria Read full story here: http://techmandy..com.ng/2015/12/mtn-hires-seven-top-lawyers-to-fight.html |

Black Friday has come and gone. Can you imagine a situation whereby you made an order and for over 3 weeks your order has not been delivered even after you made payment online. Jumia stated it clearly on their website that orders made on blackfriday might be delayed for 8 days, but now this is the 20th day and still counting. all orders made from Konga that same day got delivered 5 days after but Jumia just want to scam Nigerians. The most annoying part is that I tried to contact them on gmail, twitter, facebook, even their customer service [jumia.zendesk.com] but to my surprise they won't even reply i even went ahead to add their CEO on linkend to complain all to no avail. I ordered for 3 headphones with order number 306478537-M1079, my order as arrived at local office for over 2 weeks now and up till now no show!!! that was how i ordered for an infiinix hot note 1 month again and the phone did not even power ON, my friend ordered for an injoo max 2 plus a week after black friday and the phone did not also power ON when it was delivered. The funniest thing is that i was planing to make those headphones christmas gift to pple aroound me but guess jumia ruined my christmas this year already. Here are complaind from fellow nigerians concerning this same scam amolaniyan Daniel Sylvanus Olatilewa Shoyombo Olatilewa Shoyombo This should sound as a wake up call to Jumia...... delivery of items shouldnt be this hard especially when its within the same STATE.....
