The sight of Sharon, talking to another guy almost gave Roland a heart attack. For some weird reasons, he couldn’t understand why he suddenly became angry and somewhat jealous. Sharon looked away and pretended as though Roland wasn’t referring to her.

“I just asked a question, what’s going on here” Roland repeated but no one answered. Their silence was beginning to get on his nerves and he started boiling with anger, “Sharon get up and come with me” he commanded but she gave him a disgusted look and sighed. Kelvin was a bit confused at first but eventually figured what was going on, “Sharon are you ok?” Kelvin asked, “I’m fine, I think I’ll be leaving now” she replied.

As their little conversation was going on, Roland couldn’t contain his anger anymore. He gave Sharon a piercing look, sighed and walked away. After he left, Sharon took a deep breath and shook her head. She suddenly became sad and her countenance changed, “I’ll be leaving now” she said. “Did you come with a car? If not, please can I drop you off?” Kelvin asked but she declined his offer, “I’ll be fine by myself” she said as she got up to leave. Kelvin didn’t want to lose her so he asked for her contact, of which she declined again. “Sharon, I don’t mean to be pushy but it would mean so much to me if I can see you again” he said. Sharon thought about it for a while and finally gave her number to him. Kelvin was extremely happy and walked her down stairs so she could board a taxi home, “I’ll call sooner than you think” he said as he waved “Goodbye” to her.

As Sharon headed home, she couldn’t stop thinking about Roland, “I’m scared he might leave me, did I go too far?” she thought. When she arrived home, she tried calling Roland but he didn’t pick up. Sharon didn’t know why she was scared of losing her relationship with him. For some weird reasons, she felt she couldn’t do without him. All through that night, she called his phone but he never picked.

After work the next day, she went to his office to check up on him because she knew he would be there. Roland’s dad owned the company, so he spent a lot of time there especially on Mondays and Fridays. “Please is Roland in” she asked his secretary, “Yes, he just finished a teleconference meeting so you can go in now” the secretary said.

Sharon majestically walked into his office and saw him going through some paper work. He wasn’t excited to see her, “What are you doing here?” he asked with a straight face, “I came to apologize for yesterday” she replied, “there’s nothing to apologize for, you can leave my office now” he commanded and looked away. Sharon was shocked at the manner he spoke to her, she felt humiliated and unwanted. “Roland what have I done to deserve this kind of treatment from you? If you don’t want me anymore why not just say it and stop with all these cruel words you say to me. I have done nothing wrong but love you, so why do you treat me this way?” she said with tears in her eyes. Roland was unmoved by her tears, he ignored her and kept focusing on what he was doing. Sharon became fed up and tired of looking like a fool, she turned and walked away.

Immediately she left, Roland stopped what he was doing and laid his head back on the chair. He was quiet for a while and called his secretary, “hurry and bring Sharon back here now” he commanded. His secretary rushed out of the office in search of Sharon but she had already entered a taxi. She returned to Roland’s office, “sir I couldn’t find her” she said, “that’s because you didn’t run fast, just go!” he angrily said and his secretary left and went back to her duty post.

Roland tried to concentrate with what he was doing but couldn’t. He felt guilty of the way he spoke to Sharon; he picked his phone and dialed her number but she didn’t pick up, he called again and she still didn’t pick up. Roland sighed, dropped his phone and continued with what he was doing. At close of work, he drove down to a birthday party of his friend. When he arrived, a lot of ladies identified him and rushed to dance with him. A lot of people knew him and how wealthy his family was. He partied and flirted with so many girls and finally retired home with one of them. Unknowing to him, Sharon was planning on visiting his house so they could settle their misunderstanding.

Back at Roland’s house, he took his shower and became cozy with the lady he came home with, “Do you have a girlfriend?” the lady asked, “Yes I do” he replied boldly. The lady smiled and asked “then what am I doing here?”, “You tell me instead” Roland redirected the question back to her. They laughed and changed the topic, Roland reached out for her lips and kissed it. They got into the mood and started caressing each other.

Have you ever been in a relationship where you were taken for granted and under-appreciated? Have you ever wanted to keep someone more than they made efforts to keep you? Well, brace yourself because I’m about to take you on a ride down the memory lane of Sharon and Roland.

Several years back, there was a lady named Sharon who was blindly in love with a man that loved her less, his name was Roland. Their relationship was a perfect example of a one sided relationship and it was an obvious fact that Sharon was into Roland more than he was into her. She was extremely beautiful and quite independent but was unhappy.

Roland was from an influential family; his parents were among the Elites in the city they lived in. He loved Sharon but was of the school of thought that one lady isn’t enough for one man. He was proud and never said sorry whenever he was wrong. I know most of you will probably be wondering what a beautiful and independent lady like Sharon was doing with a man like Roland? Well, you know what they say about Love and how it has the ability to blind someone, thereby making them unable to see the red flags and flaws of their partner. In Sharon’s case, I guess she was so used to being called Roland’s wife right from her childhood that she couldn’t imagine her life without him as an adult.

Sharon loved and cared for Roland with all her heart and always made sure his fridge was stocked with different delicacies during weekends. She was everything he wanted her to be and was always there for him. I can’t say same for Roland because he hardly had time for their relationship, he always found faults in everything she did and scolded her often. It wasn’t a hidden fact that he had other girls in his life as Sharon had caught him severally, flirting with other ladies.

Constant crying became a lifestyle for Sharon, because she always cried when no one was watching. Many times, she tried to quit the relationship but Roland always had his way back into her heart. He knew she had eyes for only him and no ones else and that was his advantage over her. Sharon was naive or should I say “blindly in love”. Everything went on as usual for a long time but the table was about to turn. They say you never know what you have until you lose it, and whoever came up with that saying wasn’t lying at all.

One fateful day, Roland asked Sharon out on a dinner date and she left the house causally dressed. On seeing her, he became upset and asked her why she was dressed so casually for a dinner date, “I haven’t been feeling too well so I couldn’t search for a proper outfit to wear” she said, “It doesn’t matter, as far as the sickness didn’t stop you from walking, then you should have been able to search for a proper outfit to wear, I can’t be seen with you dressed up like this” he said. Sharon was furious and suddenly wasn’t in the mood to proceed with the date anymore, ‘Stop the car!” she commanded, “Why?” Roland asked, “Nothing, just stop the car” she said but he kept driving. Sharon wasn’t having it and wanted to get off his car with immediate effect due to the cruel words he said to her earlier, “Roland please just stop this car now!” she said, almost tearing up. He finally stopped the car and before he could utter a word to Sharon, she got down crying and walked towards a mall not far from where he parked. Roland remained in the car and watched Sharon till she entered the mall, he was angry but felt guilty at the same time. His pride wouldn’t let him follow her immediately to apologize, so he sat in the car and waited for her to come out.

On the other hand, Sharon used the elevator and it took her to the last floor of the mall. There was a Pub at her right so she walked towards that direction. As she entered the Pub, all eyes where on her, so she walked quietly and sat down. The bar man saw how moody she was and asked her what she wanted to drink, “Give me anything without alcohol in it” she said and the the bar man gave her a chilled juice. She thanked him and sipped gently with a sad face.

At the other corner of the bar, some guys were playing snooker and one particular guy couldn’t get his eyes off Sharon. He was smitten by her gentleness and was thinking on how to approach her. After a while of being lost in thoughts, his friend noticed and asked him what was wrong, “There’s just something about that girl that I can’t seen to wrap my head around” he said, “Which girl?” his friend asked, “The one that just walked in” he replied. His friend looked towards Sharon’s direction, smiled and said, “Bro go and talk to her, who knows she might be having a bad day and needs someone to cheer her up”.

After the boost of morale, he summoned up courage and walked towards Sharon, “I can tell you’re having a bad day, can I join you to sit” he jokingly said. Sharon looked up and beheld a gentle looking man, “You can sit if you want to and what makes you think I’m having a bad day?” she asked, “You have been stirring your drink with that straw for a long time now and your facial expression says it all too” he replied smiling as he sat down. Sharon smiled and looked downwards, “My name is Kelvin, can I please know your name?” he asked, “I’m Sharon” she replied, “Beautiful name” he complimented and she thanked him.

Kelvin tried to start a conversation with her so he asked how her day went and they got talking. They talked and laughed for a while till the bar man brought Sharon’s bill, “I’ll get that” Kelvin said, “No don’t worry, I’ll pay” she said but he insisted and she finally let him foot the bill.

Just as Kelvin was about paying, Roland walked inside the pub and saw Sharon talking with another guy. He confusingly walked towards them and asked “What’s going on here?”.

According to the BBC, a lawyer in Sudan has revealed that the internet has been restored after a three-week shutdown, but only for him.

On Sunday, Abdel-Adheem Hassan won a lawsuit against telecoms operator Zain Sudan over the blackout ordered by Sudan’s military rulers.

However, he says his victory is only benefitting him so far as he filed the case in a personal capacity.

The internet was cut off after security forces violently dispersed protesters camping in central Khartoum.

The protesters want an end to military rule following the coup against long-time leader Omar al-Bashir in April.

Mr Hassan said he is currently the only civilian in the country able to access the internet without resorting to complicated hacks.

He said he is going back to court on Tuesday to win the right for more Sudanese people.

“We have a court session tomorrow and another one the day after tomorrow. Hopefully one million people will gain internet access by the end of the week,” Mr Hassan added.

Mohamed Osman, a BBC Arabic reporter in Khartoum confirms that the internet remains blocked despite Sunday’s court order.

“The operator failed to provide written orders to disconnect the internet.

“Everybody is trying to avoid responsibility, nobody wants to be personally liable – it’s a crime and an international human rights violation,” Mr Hassan told the BBC.

The United Nations on Monday urged Sudanese authorities to grant human rights monitors to access the country and end “repression” against protesters.

Michelle Bachelet, the UN human rights chief called on the military government to end the internet shutdown during her opening speech at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

It is five days since a gaming YouTuber went missing, Techplace24.com report.

And Now, his belongings has been found on Manhattan Bridge in New York.

Before his sudden disappearance, Desmond Amofah, better known as Etika, had uploaded an eight-minute video in which he talked about suicidal thoughts.

Etika was known for playing and discussing Nintendo games on YouTube and streaming channel Twitch.

His Twitch account has been deleted but other social media platforms, including Twitter and Instagram, remain visible.

His last update was a tweet on 20 June.

He has 321,000 followers on Twitter and 252,000 on Instagram.

According to a New York Post reports, his phone, driving licence, wallet and Nintendo Switch were among the items found.

New York police are still investigating his disappearance.

Walmart, the U.S. supermarket giant has confirmed it uses image recognition cameras at checkouts to detect theft.

BBC Technology revealed that the cameras identify when items are put in a shopping bag without first being scanned by a cashier, or at the self-service checkout.

“We used the technology in more than 1,000 stores,” Walmart told the news site Business Insider.

The company said that it had made an “investment to ensure the safety of our customers and associates.”

The scheme, called Missed Scan Detection by Walmart, uses technology supplied by Irish company Everseen.

The cameras track items rather than people. If an item is spotted being put in a shopping bag before it has been scanned at the checkout, the system can call an employee to “help”.

The retailer said shrinkage the loss of products due to theft or error – had decreased since the technology had been deployed.

Asda, which is owned by Walmart, and UK supermarket Sainsbury’s both told the BBC they did not use image recognition cameras in their stores.

As at press time, Tesco has not yet replied to a BBC request for comment.

WhatsApp will take legal action against users who send too many messages from December 7, 2019.

The company hoped to put a stop to the abuse of the service by spammers, who send huge number of messages to particular users, it said.

Such rules are banned in its terms, and users can be banned for contravening them. But the company has now pledged to pursue other punishments too.

In an update to the social media platform’s FAQ section of its website, WhatsApp said that from December 7 this year, it will consider taking legal action against anyone deemed to be using the platform for activities such as “bulk or automated messaging.”

The firm said its system is meant to be used as a private messaging platform or for companies to interact with customers via its dedicated Business app, and that it will not tolerate it being used for spam messages.

“WhatsApp was designed for private messaging, so we’ve taken action to prevent bulk messaging and enforce limits on how WhatsApp can be used,” the firm stated.

“We’ve also stepped up our ability to identify accounts that misuse WhatsApp, which helps us ban two million accounts globally per month.”

The Facebook chat platform and messaging service currently has more than 1.5 billion active users. As at January, 41 per cent of Nigeria’s population use WhatsApp, with Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook Messenger far below, with just 25 per cent and 24 per cent of the population, the Guardian check showed.

The updated page on the firm’s website on “unauthorised usage of WhatsApp” said the company is “committed to reinforcing the private nature of our platform and keeping users safe from abuse” and that it will use all the resources at its disposal to prevent abuse of its terms of service.

“Beginning on December 7 2019, WhatsApp will take legal action against those we determine are engaged in or assisting others in abuse that violates our terms of service, such as automated or bulk messaging,” the information page states.

WhatsApp warned that it would also consider legal action even if that decision is based on “information solely available to us off our platform”.

WhatsApp had earlier this year, released a white paper which warned of automated and spam messages being used to spread “problematic content”.

Efforts to stop this behaviour are “particularly important during elections where certain groups may attempt to send messages at scale,” it said.

The company, earlier this year, confirmed it would be limiting the number of times users can forward any single message to five in an attempt to stop false information spreading on the platform.

This feature was initially tested in India in 2018 after a string of mob attacks in the country were blamed on fake reports which were said to have spread via the app.

Facebook is ready to unveil a bid to bring cryptocurrency payments into the mainstream, reportedly with the endorsement of governments and financial giants.

The world’s biggest social network is expected to outline details of a virtual currency launching next year that it hopes will avoid the rollercoaster volatility of “blockchain” technologies such as bitcoin.

The social media giant, Facebook is setting up a consortium called “Libra” which, according to the Wall Street Journal, has been joined by more than a dozen companies including Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Uber.

The companies along with venture capitalists and telecommunications firms will reportedly invest around $10 million each into the consortium.

According to guardian.ng, Facebook has been trying to ward off hostile regulatory scrutiny after a series of privacy abuses and the spread of fake news.

The consortium will be managed externally and will seek to build trust among consumers by pegging the virtual coin to a basket of currencies including the dollar and euro, the Journal said.

The BBC reported last month that Facebook has already sought blessings from the U.S. Treasury and the Bank of England.

Regulators have been reticent about cryptocurrencies, not only due to potential abuse by criminals but the wild swings in their value harming consumers.

With more than two billion users across its platforms, which include WhatsApp and Instagram, Facebook could have the clout to bring cryptocurrency out of the fringes and emulate the likes of WeChat in China, where the US site is banned.

WeChat allows its users to chat, shop and play games without leaving its platform, generating more revenue by offering a one-stop portal.

Buffeted by the privacy storms, Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive has promised a new direction for Facebook built around smaller groups, private messaging and payments.

But it will need to overcome questions of trust and privacy, not least over how financial data will be stored. Some analysts are betting that the heavyweight Libra consortium will help to do that.

Facebook’s crypto initiative could facilitate shopping, applications and gaming, and would leverage its broad user base in Asia, RBC analyst Mark Mahaney said in a research note last week.

It “may prove to be one of the most important initiatives in the history of the company to unlock new engagement and revenue streams”, he wrote.

A Chinese computer programmer has caused quite a stir on social media recently after posting that he created a custom chatbot to answer his girlfriend’s texts 24/7, he further revealed that he was apparently too busy to do it himself, Brainnews report.

Li Kaixiang, a software development engineer working for Chinese internet giant JD.com, said he was often too busy at work to answer his girlfriend’s daily texts. But he also didn’t want to hurt her feelings by ignoring her, so he came up with the idea to create a chatbot to answer and send messages on his behalf. He even posted some screenshot of the chatbot’s conversation with his girlfriend on WeChat, and it definitely looks like the software did a pretty good job.

The programmer said that on the first day that the chatbot went online, it exchanged around 300 texts with his girlfriend, which explains why he created it in the first place.

In one of the conversations posted online, Li’s girlfriend appears to suspect that something is amiss, asking questions like: “How did you do it?” or: “Why are you responding so fast?”, but the chatbot plays dumb.

The programmer’s posts on China’s Weibo platform don’t mention whether the woman was aware the messages were auto-replies, but people loved the idea anyway, calling Li a genius and asking him for the source code.

“It is such a good idea. I wouldn’t have to worry about irritating my girlfriend by not responding to her messages,” one Weibo user wrote. “Brother, send me the source code please,” another man asked.

But the chatbot wasn’t exactly perfect, in another conversation, it wrote “Baby, this is the 618th day we’ve been together. Wish your mood is brighter than the sun,” which is sweet, only it was followed by information about the weather (“Temperature: 18.0° – 34.0° C… Wind: Level 3… Air quality: 42.0”) which it probably scraped from somewhere.

According to a report by standardmedia.co.ke, revealed that not everyone was impressed by the idea. Some people criticised Li Kaixiang for claiming to be too busy to answer his girlfriend’s texts, while apparently having the time to work on a custom chatbot.

Others warned him that his partner might fall in love with the chatbot. “Be careful, your girlfriend might fall in love with the chatbot one day,” a person commented.

One thing’s for sure, Li’s post went viral almost instantly on Chinese social media, but he didn’t seem to enjoy the attention too much, since as soon as the news went viral, he deleted his Weibo account. Maybe he didn’t want his girlfriend to learn about his trick, or he just didn’t want people asking him about it.

Instagram is currently testing a new way for people to recover their accounts if they get locked out or hacked.

Currently, locked-out account holders have to email specific verification to Instagram’s security team before access can be restored.

According to the BBC, the trial is an in-app function where users submit contact information associated with the account, and then receive an access code.

Using this process, it will work even if the account has been hacked and the details changed.

The form of an emailed photograph of the account holder holding up a piece of paper with a handwritten code on it is one of the ways in which the platform currently accepts verification.

Instagrammer Lindsie Comerford ended up asking an ethical hacker for help after her account was hacked in 2018.

She wrote a blog post about her experience after finding the official recovery process frustrating and unsuccessful.

“Well, apparently to get a hacked account back I have got to email support and help 10 times, leave 3 voicemails, and report my account before I could reach a magical help screen that actually guides you towards getting your account back,” she wrote in a blog post.

“Getting the help is no easy feat though and honestly it requires sheer digital magic.”

Also announced by Facebook-owned Instagram, is that it is introducing a time delay before a username can be claimed by someone else if an account is hacked or the user decides to change it.

The feature is available to all Android users.

Huawei has been intensively testing HongMeng OS with companies like Tencent, Oppo and Vivo. Based on the tests, it has been revealed that Huawei’s new OS is 60 per cent faster than Google’s Android.

Recall, after Trump administration announced a ban on Huawei products and services, it barred the company from doing business with US tech companies such as Alphabet Inc, whose Android OS is used in Huawei’s phones. However, days later Huawei announced that it is working on its own operating system which will replace Android in its smartphones.

This week, a Huawei executive also announced that the company’s own operating system called Hongmeng OS is ready to roll out to its users soon. Some reports suggest that could be as soon as October this year.

Per the recent extension from Google, Huawei will have access to Android only until August 2019.

A recent report by Global Times suggests that Huawei’s Hongmeng OS will apparently be 60 percent faster than Android. Reportedly, Oppo and Vivo have sent out their teams to test the new Huawei OS and found the operating system to indeed be 60 percent faster than Android. We cannot confirm these claims till we get a chance to test it out for ourselves. For all you know, it may just be a matter of building hype for a Chinese alternative to Android OS.

The report, further, also reveals that Tencent is also working with Huawei’s EMUI team to test Hongmeng OS.

Huawei, simultaneously, has applied to trademark its operating system in at least nine countries and Europe. According to data from the UN World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the trademark has been filed in countries such as Cambodia, Canada, South Korea and New Zealand.

Hongmeng OS will reportedly be used for gadgets ranging from smartphones, portable computers to robots and car televisions. Hongmeng OS is expected to ship on nearly 225 million devices by the end of this year.

Twitter has claimed some account were being used by Iran to spread misinformation, and now Twitter has removed almost 4,800 accounts.

As Twitter tries to tackle interference, the accounts were deleted alongside others from several different groups.

It revealed the deletions in an update to its transparency report that aims to expose the “spread of misinformation by insidious actors”.

Also, other accounts which were removed were used for Russian, Catalonian and Venezuelan propaganda.

In the process of social manipulation, the 4,800 accounts were not a unified block, said Yoel Roth, Twitter’s head of site integrity in a blog detailing its actions.

One fraction, 1,666 accounts, cumulatively sent more than two million tweets that sought to spread views backing Iran’s policies and actions, Mr Roth said.

According to the BBC, a smaller set, 248 in total, did similar work but were specifically aimed at skewing discussions about Israel.

The biggest group, 2,865, used “false personas” to steer conversations about social issues in Iran and elsewhere. These accounts were deleted in May.

Other accounts shut down included 130 set up by supporters of Catalonian independence, 33 run by a “commercial entity in Venezuela and four Russian accounts used by the notorious Internet Research Agency (IRA). The IRA is believed to have sought to influence the 2016 US presidential election via social media.

“We believe that people and organisations with the advantages of institutional power and which consciously abuse our service are not advancing healthy discourse but are actively working to undermine it,” Mr Roth wrote.

Mr Roth said Twitter had collected all the suspect accounts it had removed since beginning its purge into a data set that it provided to researchers. Currently the data set contains more than 30 million tweets and more than one terabyte of images and video.

According to a new study released on Monday shows that Google is raking in billions of dollars per year thanks to the news industry, and not sharing a cut of the profits.

The tech giant made $4.7 billion from publisher content surfaced in Search and News last year, according to the study from the News Media Alliance. Google Search “relies heavily on news content to increase user engagement,” the study said, pointing out that more than 90% of Americans now get at least some of their news online.

President of the NMA, David Chavern, believes publishers deserve a share of the money Google is earning off highlighting their work.

“They make money off this arrangement,” “and there needs to be a better outcome for news publishers,” Chavern told The New York Times.

News, the study said, is “increasingly important” to Google, accounting for about 40% of its trending search queries. Not only are publishers stiffed on receiving their share of the company’s earnings, the study said, but they’re also left without access to valuable user data. Overall, Google’s parent company Alphabet pulled in more than $135 billion in revenue last year.

Google pushed back against the study in a statement to The Times, saying it drives more than 10 billion clicks to publishers each month, helping boost subscription and ad revenue. A company spokesperson said: “We’ve worked very hard to be a collaborative and supportive technology and advertising partner to news publishers worldwide.”

The study comes as several outlets have struggled to adjust to changing media dynamics in recent years, with major publishers like Vice laying off hundreds of workers this year.

Many publishers have experimented with adding video content to drive ad revenue, but that has been an inconsistent bet, at best.
