ComputersHp Pavilion G6 Blinking Capslock – Quick Fix by techtorqueng(op): 12:28pm On Nov 03, 2016
I JUST FOUND A WAY TO FIX THE HP PAVILION G6 BLINKING CAPSLOCK ISSUE.

I updated my laptop to Windows 10 on the day it was released, and I’ve been enjoying it since then, no problem at all. Two weeks ago, I was playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, (one of my best race games) and the screen started flickering. The keyboard stopped responding to I powered it off. When I turned the laptop back on the screen didn’t come on and the caps-lock light was blinking every three seconds. I powered it off and tried powering it on several times, but nothing changed. The first thing that came to my mind was the RAM, so I tested it on another laptop and it worked. So i took out the laptop battery, CMOS battery, WiFi card, hard drive, and swapped RAM from another laptop, but it was still the same. So I went online to look for solutions. https://www.techtorque.com.ng/hp-pavilion-g6-blinking-capslock-quick-fix/
ProgrammingCustomizing Buddypress Urls For Profile, Members And Messages by techtorqueng(op): 10:18am On Nov 03, 2016
IN THIS POST, I WILL SHOW YOU A WAY OF CUSTOMIZING BUDDYPRESS URLS FOR PROFILE, MEMBERS, FRIENDS AND MESSAGES.

AS we all know, BuddyPress is an easy way to create social media-like feature on your WordPress website or Blogs.

This post will not be covering the installation and configuration of the BuddyPress plugin. I am assuming you already have your BuddyPress site all setup.

It is easy to create menu for Activity, Members and Groups on the site because these are already attached to specific page. So all you have to do is pull the pages into your menu.

Creating menu for Profile, Friends, Messages, Settings etc, isn’t as straight forward as the ones mentioned above. This is because the url comes out in this form http://yourdomain/members/yourusername. This makes it difficult to add it as a custom link menu. This is because every user has a unique username. A url that works for one user will either bring a 404 page error or link you to the profile of the user whose username is in the link. Using http://yourdomain/members/%USERNAME%/ used to solve this problem but it stopped worked a long time ago (or you could create a html link with <a href=”http://yoursite.com/members/%USERNAME%/”>Profile</a>wink. https://www.techtorque.com.ng/customizing-buddypress-urls-profile-members-messages/

PhonesApplying Rescue OTA To Nexus 9 by techtorqueng(op): 10:11am On Nov 03, 2016
Applying Rescue OTA to Nexus 9

I have a Google Nexus 9 LTE tablet that gave me so much trouble for about six months, and I was very close to throwing it away. It froze during an update and since then it refuse to work. I tried Factory Reset and it just got worse.

While booting, it flashes a message “Your device is corrupt. It can’t be trusted and may not work properly.”

When it’s done booting it show this message “Your device has an internal problem“, the “Bluetooth share has stopped” comes up twice. It gets to the android setup option and no matter what I do it didn’t go beyond trying to connect to the internet.

I had tried all sorts of flashing tools. The problem that was most of these tools required USB Debugging and Developer mode enabled. There was no way to activate these option since the device hasn’t even loaded to the home screen.

I had also previously tried Sideloading the device with my Windows computer and that didn’t work. Apparently it turned out I was trying to Sideload a Factory Image instead of Rescue OTA image (I kept getting E:footer is wrong, E:signature verification failed). I just realized they were two different things.

Luckily for me I found my solution at Google Product Forum from a guy, Techno Bill

It was a big relief because I was contemplating shipping the tablet to HTC America to get it fixed for almost the same amount I got it.

There’s no HTC support centre in this part of the world, so if you’re having similar issues with your Nexus devices, follow the step below carefully.

Remember,Android Factory Image is not the same as Android OTA Rescue Image https://www.techtorque.com.ng/applying-rescue-ota-nexus-9/

ComputersApple Macbook Pro Touch Bar – My Opinion by techtorqueng(op): 10:05am On Nov 03, 2016
APPLE MACBOOK PRO TOUCH BAR – MY OPINION

So Apple has unveiled it new Macbook Pro for 2016 and as always Apple has built on its past success. It really is a powerful piece of hardware.

I’m not going to talk about its under the hood power because it’s expected that every new device (no matter the manufacturer) should come with some level of improvements, whether in its processing power, software, build quality or user experience.

I’m going to be sharing my opinion on the Macbook Pro Touch Bar.

Of all the live demo, the most impressive to me was the Touch ID. The ability to switch between user profiles with the touch of a finger. I think that’s a game changer. Also the ability to make secure payment with the touch of a finger.

The retina display, multi-touch strip adapts to whatever app you’re using. Touch Bar recognizes up to ten finger inputs simultaneously. It has replaced the function keys from the previous keyboard setup. Although the familiar key can be accessed by holding down the function key. Just in case. https://www.techtorque.com.ng/apple-macbook-pro-touch-bar-opinion/

WebmastersLinda Ikeji Social - Tech Torque NG Review by techtorqueng(op): 4:56pm On Nov 02, 2016
IT’S LINDA IKEJI SOCIAL’S TECH TORQUE NG REVIEW.

I know I said earlier that I would need a few days of usage to do my review of the site, but after a few hours I though I’ve had enough time with it. Beside there isn’t a lot on the site.

I’ve also seen a few reviews online, some bad, some good, and some I thought were too quick to judge. It’s normal to get mixed opinions on these kind of things, especially here in Nigeria where we tend to discredit the efforts of our own people. As long as innovation is concerned, I think Nigerians prefer it comes from outside the country (especially outside Africa).

Since Nigeria is a consuming country, we are still some years away from embracing by Nigeria for Nigeria products, but I’ll love to see how Linda Ikeji fairs.

ComputersHow To Transfer Your Email Inbox To Another Account by techtorqueng(op): 2:23pm On Sep 06, 2015
Some problems sound so huge but their solutions might just be simpler than we expect.

I worked in an organisation that relies on emails as one of its main medium for communication. Some people just liked it because to them it was a major form of record keeping (email thread). At some point the organisation chose to adopt a reformed domain name, and it was also going to affect the email system.

Many of the staff members did not welcome the idea because it meant they would lose all the email correspondence that had been built over the years. Considering the organisation also gave an ultimatum to fully migrate before they terminate the service on the old domain name.

Many people quickly resorted to forwarding their emails manually, one by one to their new email accounts. For some who worked there for the longest period, it was a matter of days. In fact, a particular department ran skeletal operation for a few days just so they could download records to an offline back.

In the midst of all the chaos, I had an idea. Of course, I wasn’t even sure it was going to work but I just thought I should try it anyway since I was also directly affected. I was using Linux Mint as my main operating system them, and at the time, and I had Mozilla ThunderBird installed. I had both emails configured on the ThunderBird in separate accounts. If you’re used to email clients you’d understand, and you would have been familiar with configuring POP/IMAP. In this case you would be using the IMAP configuration. Email clients allow bulk actions such as DELETE, MARK, MOVE etc. Open the source inbox, highlight all messages (Ctrl + A). Drag the selected content to the inbox of the destination email account. Your ThunderBird will freeze for a couple of minutes, depending on you laptop configuration and internet speed. You will need patience at this point.

PhonesUber App – Review by techtorqueng(op): 2:07pm On Sep 06, 2015

Today, I finally decided to do a review on the Uber app.

This review doesn’t cover the quality of the cars, personality of the driver, the company’s business strategies nor their coverage. I am just reviewing the app (the technology).

I think the Uber idea is a brilliant one. The fact that I can be in the comfort of my home or office and request a car without have to step outside, making phone calls or getting into an annoying fare negotiation makes it awesome.

The app is quite user-friendly and straight to the point. All it does is get you car for your ride.

To use the app, you would need to create an Uber account, either on the app or on the web browser. Creating an account is almost like signing up for a social media account. Only difference is, you’ll need to provide a form of payment. In our case, that would be you Naira debit card (ATM card).

Once your account has been created and you’re signed into the app, you’re ready for your first Uber ride.

ComputersUser Profile Service Failed The Logon, Fixed by techtorqueng(op): 1:32pm On Sep 06, 2015
There are many tutorials on this particular issue online and they all say the same thing. Their methods work pretty well. All the videos and articles all have an identical procedure. If you follow their instructions step by step, you will be able to resolve this issue. Click here to see Microsoft’s support solution.

However, I had a peculiar issue. In the tutorials, it is stated that you have to reboot your computer to safe mode and modify the registry value of your profile. In this particular case, the safe mode had the same login error. This means at that point the tutorials online wouldn’t help you. If this happens in your case, hold on before you think of reformatting you computer.

If you have multiple accounts on your computer, check to see if any of them don’t have the login error. If there’s a working profile, you’ll use that account to modify the profile registry. But if all the profiles are affected by the same error, then you’ll have to find a way to create a new account.

If you’re using a computer joined to a Windows domain, you’ll have to switch to a local account or ask your domain administrator to help with a local account.

If you have a computer with a single account, you may need a third-party application to create a new Windows Admin account or unlock the Administrator account. Try the Hiren BootCD 10. Once you have a new account that you can work with, then you’re ready to fix this issue.

ComputersRestoring Files And Folders Hidden By Virus by techtorqueng(op): 1:21pm On Sep 06, 2015
I have had way too many complains about files an folders hidden or presumably deleted by viruses and replaces with shortcuts. This happens after plugging the storage device into an infected computer or plugging an infected storage device into a computer. I always advice you be sure the destination of your storage devices before you plug in to the computer. By storage devices I mean, HDD, flash drive, SD card, mobile phone. In the eyes of a computer, they are all storage devices, and the virus knows that too. This is a Microsoft Windows problem.

I first had a personal experience with this situation in 2007. I did notice the size used on my HDD was the same but a lot of folders had disappeared. It was new to me then so I didn’t know the best way to resolve it. I knew if I formatted the HDD, I would lose all of the contents. So, I did a full HDD delete recovery. It worked quite well but it took about 6 hours. Long ting. The recovery process brought back the viruses that were deleted along with my missing files and folders. I used Kaspersky to do a full scan and all went well.

Today, this same virus threat seems to be lingering. I have heard stories of how people have had to format both computers and storages just to get rid of this same infection.

Note, I am showing you how to restore these hidden files and folders and not how to get rid of the viruses. In 2009, I found a cumbersome way to restore the files and folders and also remove the virus. This virus keeps evolving. It’s quite different from the way I knew it in 2009. Back then, you could just plug your storage device into a Linux or Mac computer. The hidden files and folder would be visible. Then you recreate each folder and move their content into it the delete the old folder. Today, these virus has found a way to blind Linux and OSX from seeing these files.

First of all, install a very good antivirus. I’ll recommend Kaspersky or BitDefender. Make sure it activated (even if it a trial version) and updated online. Don’t bother doing a full scan at this point

ComputersHow To Solve Macbook Redlight Audio Port by techtorqueng(op):
This problem has different ways to solve it, depending on the device or operating system.

The red light doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with your sound card, even though you can’t hear audio through you laptop speaker. Your earphones or external audio devices will still work normally, indicating your sound card is in order.

Don’t bother planning to spend a lot of money taking it to an Apple shop (everything you do there is expensive) to fix it. Just look for which of these instances suit your situation.

PhonesWindows Phone 10 On 512mb RAM by techtorqueng(op):
Microsoft has promised to upgrade devices with Windows Phone 8.1 to the new Windows Phone 10 over-the-air (OTA).

This is great news for owners of devices with 512 MB RAM. They will get the new operating system without having to replace their devices. Microsoft has good intentions of upgrading everyone to their new version of the Windows Phone operating system. I understand that Microsoft failed to upgrade devices to Windows 7 and Windows 7.5. Now, they are doing all it can to redeem its name by making a new promise and fighting to keep it this time. However, I think this might be another promise Microsoft will be unable to keep.
