Travel › Re: Ugandan Tourist Praises Positive Change At Murtala Muhammed Airport by teekrackz(m): 9:49pm On Apr 12 |
Oyindamolah: A single positive experience—no matter how encouraging—doesn’t automatically confirm a full system-wide transformation.
While the Ugandan traveler’s smooth passage through Murtala Muhammed International Airport is a welcome account and may reflect pockets of improvement, it’s important to separate isolated experiences from consistent performance across time, terminals, and staff rotations.
Nigeria’s aviation sector has long struggled with deeply rooted structural issues—ranging from uneven staff conduct and discretionary enforcement of rules to infrastructure bottlenecks and supervision gaps. These are not problems that disappear overnight or within a few successful passenger journeys. Reforms may be introduced on paper, but what matters is sustained enforcement across shifts, airlines, and peak travel periods.
It’s also possible that what the traveler experienced was influenced by timing, staffing changes, or even increased scrutiny on certain days—especially when airports anticipate monitoring or heightened public attention. That can temporarily improve behavior without necessarily indicating long-term institutional change.
For meaningful progress, the real benchmark shouldn’t be “did one passenger have a good experience?” but rather:
1. Are complaints consistently declining across multiple airlines and terminals? 2. Are enforcement practices transparent and uniform? 3. Are passengers no longer needing to rely on discretion or luck to get fair treatment?
So while this story is a positive signal and worth acknowledging, it should be treated as evidence of improvement in progress—not proof that the underlying challenges have been fully resolved. Una no go let poor ChapGPT rest |

Foreign Affairs › UK Doctors Go On Strike 15th Time Since 2023 by teekrackz(op): 11:33am On Apr 07 |
Doctors in England walked out for the 15th time in just over three years on Tuesday in an increasingly bitter dispute with the government over pay and jobs. The six-day stoppage by resident doctors — those below consultant level — comes after the doctors secured a 28.9 percent increase over three years following previous strikes. The government and the resident doctors are deadlocked over the medics’ demand for a further big pay hike to compensate for what they say is a real-time loss of earnings due to inflation. Health Minister Wes Streeting condemned the decision by the doctors’ union to reject the government’s latest offer of 4.9 percent amid an ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Streeting told BBC television the doctors had been the “standout winners of the entire public sector workforce when it comes to pay rises”. He accused the union of rushing to strike action despite the earlier “whopping” pay rise, adding the stoppage would cost the state-funded National Health Service £300 million ($3.9 million). The British Medical Association (BMA), which represents the doctors, is demanding full pay restoration to 2008 levels. The UK government has repeatedly said that in the current economic environment it is impossible to meet their demands. Streeting has already agreed to the doctors’ union’s demand that UK-trained medics get priority for training posts over candidates from overseas. Crime › DSS Rescues Abducted Kano LG Secretary, Arrests Two Suspects by teekrackz(op): 5:08pm On Mar 25 |
The Department of State Services (DSS) has rescued the Administrative Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Hamza Durya, who was abducted on Friday.
Durya was abducted at his residence in Durya village, Kibiya Local Government Area, by armed men who stormed his home in a coordinated raid.
According to the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the DSS launched an operation to secure the Secretary’s release.
He said the DSS operatives acted promptly and professionally, ensuring the safe release of the victim while apprehending two suspects who sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.
“The Kano State Government considers this a welcome development and a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our security agencies,” the Commissioner said.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has consistently provided resources and support to enhance the operational capacity of security outfits, and this success underscores the effectiveness of ongoing strategies to combat crime across all 44 local government areas.”
The government urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that community cooperation is vital to strengthening the state’s security architecture.
Durya recounted the harrowing experience in the hands of his abductors.
He explained that the kidnappers gained entry into his home after waking his son and forcing him to reveal his whereabouts.
He was then chained, blindfolded, and taken to a livestock room in a community within nearby Rano Local Government Area.
“They chained me and closed my face, keeping me in a chicken and livestock room,” Durya said.
“Throughout my captivity, I never saw them pray. They initially demanded N300 million, later reduced it to N100 million, and then insisted on N100 million again after claiming they were told I am close to the Kano Governor.”
Durya alleged that the kidnappers were tipped off by someone within his community who misled them into believing he had large sums of money.
He added that the gang came from Kaduna State.
“It was someone from my community who informed them. They came from Rijana in Kaduna,” he said, thanking the DSS for saving his life without any ransom being paid.
One of the arrested suspects, who identified himself as Nasiru, admitted that the gang came from Rijana in Kaduna State to carry out the abduction. He confessed that the operation was executed with the help of local informants.
“We came here from Rijana, and our guns were delivered to us later. We were about 10 in number, but the rest escaped. Only two of us were arrested, while others fled with gunshot wounds,” Nasiru confessed.

Crime › DSS Arraigns Nine Over Benue, Plateau Killings, Gunrunning by teekrackz(op): 6:36am On Sep 04, 2025 |
The Department of State Services on Wednesday arraigned nine individuals at the Federal High Court in Abuja over their alleged roles in the recent wave of killings in Benue and Plateau states.
The agency also charged a suspected gunrunner found with seven M16 rifles.
Among those arraigned were Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi, both from the Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
They face a four-count charge for their alleged involvement in the June 13 killings in Abinsi and Yelewata villages, Guma LGA of Benue State, alongside others still at large.
Two other defendants, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede, both from Guma LGA, were arraigned on a three-count charge for alleged reprisal attacks in Ukpam village, which resulted in the destruction of property and the loss of 12 cattle.
In a related case, Halima Haliru Umar, 32, from Faskari LGA of Katsina State, was charged with four counts for allegedly concealing information about a suspected gunrunner and kidnapper, identified as Alhaji Sani.
The DSS also filed a six-count against Silas Iduh Oloche of Agatu LGA, Benue State, accusing him of unlawful possession of 18 firearms, including grenades, in violation of the Firearms Act.
Additionally, 75-year-old Nanbol Tali and Timnan Manjo, both natives of Plateau State, were arraigned for allegedly trading two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles worth N3 million without a licence.
Another suspect, 62-year-old Danjuma Antu from Jos North LGA of Plateau, faced a five-count charge for allegedly possessing two locally made pistols designed to fire 9mm rounds.
Meanwhile, out of the nine, only Manjo pleaded guilty to two out of the four counts contained in the charge on which he was arraigned with Tali.
Manjo pleaded guilty to counts one and three on the charge sheet.
The counts, two which Manjo pleaded guilty, reads, “That you, Timnan Manjo of First Baptist Church, Mangu LGA, Plateau State and Nanbol Tali of Cocin LCC, Heipang, Barkin ladi LGA, Plateau State, Adults, males, sometime between July and August, 2025, at Barkin Ladin LGA, Plateau State, without licence, did engage in buying and selling of two locally fabricated AK47 rifles at the rate of N3,000,000, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 9 of Firearms Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1) of the same At.
“That you, Timnan Manjo of First Baptist Church, Mangu LGA, Plateau State, adult, male, sometime in July, 2025, at Mangu LGA, Plateau State, without licence, did engage in buying of three long-range revolver rifles at the rate of N60,000 each, from one Chomo, for resell, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 9 of Firearms Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1) of the same Act.”
Ashuwa of Ukpam village and Alede of Akawe Tokula Polytechnic (both of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State are alleged, in a three-count charge, to have, in July, attended at Couch Bar, Daudu village, a meeting in connection with acts of terrorism.
The arraignment followed months of deadly assaults by armed assailants in Plateau and Benue States that have left hundreds dead and forced thousands to flee.
On June 13, gunmen launched coordinated attacks on Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma LGA, Benue State, killing more than 200 people, including farmers and displaced persons.
In response, President Bola Tinubu ordered the arrest of the perpetrators during his visit to Benue, where he criticised security agencies for failing to apprehend the attackers.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, later announced that 28 suspects had been arrested in connection with the massacre. Source: https://punchng.com/dss-arraigns-nine-over-benue-plateau-killings-gunrunning/?amp

Crime › Law Students Kidnapped In Benue Regain Freedom by teekrackz(op): 2:01pm On Aug 01, 2025 |
Six of the Nigerian Law School who were abducted while travelling from Anambra State to Adamawa have regained freedom.
The Benue Police Command confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, said the six law students were heading for the Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School when they ran into the kidnappers along the Benue-Taraba boundary.
“Please be informed that the police have successfully rescued six law students of the Yola campus, who were abducted on July 26, 2025, while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa State, have been safely released and united with their families this morning, August 1, 2025,” the statement read.
The kidnappers had initially demanded N120 ransom, vowing to kill the captives if their demands were not met.
The high level of insecurity in Benue has been a source of concern,
Last year, 20 medical students en route to University of Jos in Plateau State, were kidnapped along Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu Road.
They regained freedom after weeks in captivity. https://dailytrust.com/just-in-law-students-kidnapped-in-benue-regain-freedom/
