Nairaland / General / Re: Breaking News: Bode George Jailed 30 Months, No Option Of Fine by TEEZERO(m): 3:02pm On Oct 26, 2009 |
Bode George jailed (As reported on The Nation website) Former Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Chairman Bode George was today sentenced to 30months imprisonment for contracts' inflation during his tenure. Justice Olubunmi Oyewole of the Ikeja high Court convicted him and five others for the offence. They were convicted for inflating contracts to the tune of 100 billion. Others are former NPA Chief Executive Aminu Dabo, Captain O. Adeboye, Abdullahi Tafida Zanna Mairaribe and Sule Aliyu. After they were convicted, their supporters went wild on the court premises. Their loyalists protested their conviction, alleging that it was instigated. George was probed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under the Obasanjo administration. The then Nuhu Ribadu led EFCC indicted George in its report that was submitted to the Federal Executive Council (FEC). FEC the raised another inter-ministerial panel to investigate the matter. The panel came up with a report that the NPA board and not George should be held liable for any misdemeanour |

I wont be surprised however if she puts Kevin up for nomination. All that bull about not nominating a Nigerian is just that: bull I wonder why they are still doing any alliance. Why don't you just strike at the fellas you can't stand or whom you think is a "strong" candidate - if your intuition tells you. |

My question still hangs: Why was Kev saved? Am assuming that Elizabeth was just a tag along. Even Krystal says Kev was "strong." And, Leonel who put them up said they are the "favourites in the house." Is there something about the Middle-Belters that keeps them being survivors of this kind of game? A la Katung of Big Brother Nigeria? |
TV/Movies / Re: Big Brother Africa 4 (The Official Thread) by TEEZERO(m): 7:01pm On Oct 25, 2009 |
10-4. Not close at all Now, was it Kevin being liked or Krystal being hated? Certainly it was not because of Nigeria. Or could it be that Nigerians around the continent just went all out to ensure that the country was not put to shame? What kept Kevin in there? |

To provoke our thoughts further, there is a National Automotive Council in this country, but guess what the fund was reportedly used for: to give car loans to military personnel. Our House of Representatives folk now want to commit tax-payers' money to PROBE the DIVERSION of the funds. |
Business / Re: Lagos To Introduce Electric Vehicles In 2010[in A Blackout Nation] by TEEZERO(m): 2:13pm On Oct 24, 2009 |
OK, let us set aside matters of politics - and think. I was fascinated by the contribution by Horus - at page 4 - that South Africa has produced its own electric car, which was exhibited in Paris LAST YEAR. Horus even went further to say how the Horus's battery would last longer than some of the electric cars being produced. Kobojunkie has noted in one of his posts that he would be going for the General Motors' Volt, which has been called the American Revolution. Perhaps, Kobojunkie does not know this: that Volt was designed by a Nigerian, Jelani Aliyu, a native of SOKOTO, NORTHWEST NIGERIA, who is a top designer at General Motors. I quote from a statement by General Motors: The statement added, that the car was developed by its lead designer "a soft spoken native of Nigeria and 1994 alumni of CCS, Jelani Aliyu after a 10-month marathon sprint to bring the Volt to reality". The CCS is the College for Creative Studies for automobile design in the US and it produces designers for all the automakers in the country. "The marathon started with tough competition amongst eight designers and their concepts that were developed in two short months, with 7 of the 8 scale model concepts reviewed and eliminated," it noted. According to the statement, "Jelaniˋs model, design incorporates many design elements to complement the electric technology driving the car as well as his love of nature and the ergonomics of a vehicle one can enjoy nature in". Aliyu, who hails from the north-western state of Sokoto, was born in 1966 in Kaduna and is married with two children. He attended Capital School, Sokoto and Federal Government College in the same town, where he received an award as a student in technical drawing and creative art." So, the question I want to ask, and I tried to imply it in my post on this thread yesterday: why can't the Lgos State government invest in the design and manufacture of such a car in Lagos. The vice-chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof Lateef Hussein, is a brilliant physicist. Perhaps a challenge to such a person would be all that is needed. Plus incentives. |

Midget From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search For the car, see MG Midget or Daihatsu Midget. For the band, see Midget (band). Midget is a term used to describe an exceptionally short person. The terms "midget" and "dwarf" are often used synonymously, as both terms mean someone who has been short in stature since birth, but those terms were not originally synonyms. Midget is a term that was originally coined in 1865, referring to an extremely short person with limbs similarly proportioned to his body as an average-size person's.[1] P.T. Barnum indirectly helped popularize "midget" when he began featuring General Tom Thumb in his circus. Dwarf was originally used to denote those with short limbs as compared to those who had proportioned limbs. Like many other older terms, "midget" has become part of popular language, although it was often used in a pejorative sense.[citation needed] When applied to a person who is very short, midget is an example of the euphemism treadmill.[2] Actor Hervé Villechaize insisted on being called a "midget" as opposed to a "little person", which irritated dwarf activists of the time. Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary (Merriam-Webster, 1961) defines "midget" in the noun form as "a very diminutive person", and in the adjective form as "like a midget in size; very diminutive", hence its usage as a synonym for "miniature", as with cars. According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the term "midget" comes from "midge", meaning a sand fly, and the suffix "-et", meaning little or small.[3] SO THAT YOUNG MAN IS NO |

Apparently, during the HOH task,Elizabeth, supposedly encouraging Kev to win, had promised him a kiss. Kev believed her, but then, he could not endure the chilling pain. He lost out. Now, while chatting tonight, Kev had brought the issue up, and, guess what, the Tanzanian babe said she was joking! That got Kev heartbroken, that is really the cause of their quarrel tonight. |

Business / Re: Lagos To Introduce Electric Vehicles In 2010[in A Blackout Nation] by TEEZERO(m): 2:35pm On Oct 23, 2009 |
This appears to me a misplaced priority. Even if Lagos was flooded with thousands of the electric cars, the impact would be so insignificant. I would have jumped for joy, anyhow, if the story was that the state government was acquiring the technology so that the manufacturing of the cars would start here in earnest. I hope and pray that someone was just flying a kite. And, speaking of flood, this, by the way, is still a major challenge that needs all the folk at the Ministry of the Environment to seriously solve. It is solvable. The Dutch did it. I had read in The Guardian on Sunday a report where the commissioner had been quoted that Lagos will have to live with floods. With due respect, that is not acceptable. I believe the right things are being ignored. |
