From the era of Oil boom till date, one could have tipped Nigeria to be on peak of development.
Alas the reverse is the case.
Is this Viscous Gold a Beatitude or Curse

Mr. moderator, please reframe your poll question. it generates ambiguity. to ask if oil is a blessing or a curse to nigeria and then demand a 'yes' or a 'no' answer makes the question for that poll ambiguous.

For me, i think it is a blessing. nnigeria has only failed to see it so.

Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by Fhemmmy: 1:01pm On Oct 24, 2009
hahahahahaha.
I will answer YENO, since it is not a complete question.
Oil has been a curse to Nigeria all along, it has not benefited the nation, only the greedy leaders.
It has made many to kill each other, many states has turned against many.
Many states that would have break away cos of greed has decided to stay all cos of oil.
It has made the useless leaders not to fully exercise the potentials of the nations and look into other ways of generating revenue.
It has left other sectors undeveloped.
I think it gave Nigeria power that we weren't ready for.

jamb question,, sad
Is it how you perceive it?  This serious issue everyone is airing their views about the reasons our dear Country remained undeveloped despite the huge resources we are blessed with, seemed like a jamb question to you?  Quite sorry! Nigerian issues are important to Nigerians and everyone should part-take in -  and contribute in anyway they can and, not airing irrelevancies.  If people don't have anything to contribute, why not PASS the subject instead of unhelpful comments.

Yes, the poster posed an open question but certainly, it's not a jamb one.  It would have been more democratic if the poster had given us room to express ourselves rather than a 'yes' and 'no' answer. It should have been posed in such a way like this:  ''Yes'', ''No'', ''Don't Agree'' ,''Not Sure'',  ''I say nothing'' etc that way people would have been in a better position to voice their opinions well at leas.  A 'yes' and 'no' answer is quite restrictive.

Black liquid curse. If you have ever being to the producing communities and states, you will agree that it is a curse.
Wherever you see oil, you see trouble. Hence, what types of country abandons other sectors of the economy and focus on one, abandons other form of revenue and focus on one (oil). Have you ever heard the FGN talk about sharing money generated from sale of groundnut, palm oil, Kolanut e.t.c. except oil. We keep hearing excess crude, crude this, crude that. It is only a cursed nation that does that.
When did only become more important than Agriculture? See, oil is a curse, an example is a man that abandons his wife and children to go after other women, is that man not cursed. The Nigerian nation abandoned other forms of revenue and focused on oil.

OIL IS A CURSE, AND NOT JUST A CURSE, A BLACK CURSE. It has cursed our leaders by blinding them to reason like humans except they hear crude oil.

the pull is not right, but i say it is a great blessing to the country but let us pray to God to open our eyes and direct our leaders to make use of it very well, so by that way all of us will be very happy about it

oil is a curse to nigeria, nigeria would have been a better place if oil had not been discovered
Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by Nobody: 12:59am On Oct 25, 2009
its a blessing but d foolish minds we got made it a curse
Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by Fhemmmy: 3:26am On Oct 25, 2009
So with most of the view and what has been said, seems like the only way to make the Oil a blessing will be to get rid of the useless leaders, so how do we do that?
Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by Nobody: 4:28am On Oct 25, 2009
Its a curse, given to the fact that it has done far more harm than good to us as a people.
Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by asunaobi(m): 5:21am On Oct 25, 2009
Oil is a very big blessing to Nigeria, but religion is a curse to any nation. Guyz dont mistake this with real faith in God. I mean RELIGION! This is when someone in power is wickedly subjecting the whole nation into suffering with all the resources we have and that same person still have the face to go to mosque or church or whatever thing they believe in, to pray to god. ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH! I HATE RELIGION, IT IS A CURSE TO NIGERIA NOT OIL!

THE GREATNESS AND GOODNESS OF A MAN/WOMAN IS NOT MEASURED BY HOW RICH OR EDUCATED YOU ARE, BUT BY YOUR ABILITY TO EFFECT A CHANGE TO SAVE LIVES.
Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by Fhemmmy: 5:37am On Oct 25, 2009
^^^^ and the oil has been able to effect changes to lives?
Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by mrofficial(m): 2:32pm On Oct 25, 2009
We treated somfin like this before. Well for me, it still remains a curse.
Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by ayo84(m): 2:53pm On Oct 25, 2009
definitely hasn't changed the fortunes of millions of the nigeria's people.oil wealth brings great richs and opportunities to relative few elites. The best form of resource is human capital. The oil we have has brought untold hardship and suferings to the people of Nigeria, its a curse rather than a blessing.imagine Nigeria without oil,we would ahve developed other resources, especially human resources.

Re: Is Oil A Blessing To Nigeria? by blasterman(m): 4:38pm On Oct 25, 2009
Oil shd be a blessing to nigeria, think about it God has blessed nija with a product that the whole world needs but we are not utilising it to our own benefit and not maximising the potentials that come with it.

look at the middle east and what they did with there oil.

E just be like man wey get well but no fit make money from water

But there is a solution and the solution is if we start to refine our oil our selves and sell it to other countries. Do u know the amt of jobs that would produce, God help us but we are not daring that is why we are where we are
Its sad to know that some countries that dont even have oil have more refineries than nigeria.

So i say yet again oil is a blessing if totally utilised
