Hello house, got the below email responses. But my status on their website still shows " Application Not Cancelled". Can I still go ahead to attend the interview ?

Dear Applicant,

Your regular B appointment at the US Embassy Abuja has been cancelled.
The Embassy and Consulate General continue to prioritize travelers with urgent travel needs, although regular visa appointments are made available as the local conditions allow. In response to ongoing pandemic-related service disruptions, the Department of State announced the extension of Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fee validity until September 30, 2022 for individuals who paid an MRV fee, but were unable to schedule and/or attend an interview during the suspension of services. If you have an urgent matter and need to travel immediately, please follow the guidance provided at https://ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-expeditedappointment.asp to request an emergency appointment. Please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/ea/covid-19-information.html for information about the current status of visa services worldwide and visa restrictions related to the COVID-19 global pandemic: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/ea/covid-19-information.html.

Please note this appointment was cancelled by the US Embassy and cannot be reversed by call center agents. Students and Emergency applicants are not affected by this cancellation.

Hello. I do not think you need to defer. My start date was August 2nd, though classes have started which i have been attending virtually. I just recently got my EA approved with a date for August 20. I have spoken to the school and they are fine with it. I think discuss with your school and let them know. Most can allow you to start virtually especially since last year, almost classes were virtual. My thoughts though.

Hello, does it mean you paid tuition fees and other financial check-ins before starting the virtual classes or you will pay upon arriving the US? Please advise as this is like my current case now. Thanks @ Yemish19

Schrodinger1:

Congratulations on your funding. Quickly request for a new I-20 reflecting your new status for the PhD program even if it's the same school. You no longer need the I-20 for your MS program. Go throw it away.

You would need to fill in a new DS-160 form (even if your SEVIS number remains constant) and reapply for another interview session.
Best of luck.

First post from the USA!

@Schrodinger1, thanks for this advice.

Hello House

Kindly advise on below please

My first I-20 I got from my school was for MSc which I took to the Embassy but unfortunately got denied.

This week I got a fully funded PhD for the same school courtesy of my advisor. It's a direct Degree to PhD now, no MSc required from me.
The offer includes stipends and lots of benefits.

Should I request for a new I-20 or I should just go to the Embassy with this new offer letter of PhD with my MSc I-20 ?? Please help me. Thanks

Hello friends, for the sake of knowledge I would like to know if my school would also send a copy of my I-20 to the US Consulate in Nigeria prior to my appointment/interview date. Thanks for your response in advance.
