The first week of August every year is for creating awareness about breastfeeding.

This year, the focus is on how to make breastfeeding and work to work. One way to do this is by formulating good policies.

What do you think about this?

Phones / Pls How Can I Charge A Laptop Directly With A Solar Panel? by temijohn45(m): 4:15pm On Dec 27, 2022
Hello Nairalanders,
Please advise me on how to charge a laptop directly with a solar panel.

Solar panel: 18Volt/ 1.66A/ 28Watt

laptop: 18.5V

laptop charger: 18.5Volt/ 3.5A

Would there be a need for any other components such as voltage booster or a voltage regulator? Infact, here is where much explanation is needed considering the differing voltages of the panel and laptop (18/18.5). Thank you.

Health / Are Women Apathetic About The New Paternity Leave Policy? by temijohn45(m): 11:17am On Jul 05, 2022
Isn't it surprising, that despite the increasing efforts of the
Government and non-governmental organizations at creating enabling
environment through effective policy formulation for addressing
challenges to the adoption of exclusive breastfeeding practice, women
themselves are not taking  advantage of such policies to secure the
support of their husbands while nursing their babies? For instance,
why are they not encouraging their husbands to apply for the new
paternity leave?
Please what is your opinion about this?

Why are young women too quick to bottle feed rather than breastfeed their babies?

No doubt, breast milk is the ideal meal for babies. Not only does it provide the required nutrients for the growth and development of the baby, it also pprovide huge benefits to the nursing mother and the society.
Increasing number of women, however, are not so keen in breastfeeding their babies. The usual conplaints include:

Description

The growing awareness of the benefits of exclusive breast feeding is reason why many nursing mothers are opting to adopt the practice. Emerging barriers, however, threaten adherence to its required duration and exclusivity. A possible strategy that could address most of the commonly reported complaints is the use of breast pumps by nursing mothers and expressed breast milk for healthy term babies. This review of scientific literature which examined its safety shows that in spite of the huge benefits and positive roles that the device could play in supporting exclusive breast feeding, significant number of users suffer discomfort, breast pain, and tissue damage. Also, its effectiveness in supporting nursing mothers to achieving the required duration and exclusivity has not been confirmed. In addition, bottle feeding puts babies at higher risks of developing Maloclusions and other forms of oral diseases while the mechanism by which bottle-fed infants tends to overfeed is unclear.
Therefore, training sessions on hand expression of breast milk and personal hygiene are recommended for inclussion into ante and post natal clinics as an alternative for nursing mothers who might have serious complaints with the device. Moreover, further studies to refine the dynamics of breast pump operation so as to address complaints by nursing mothers are also advocated.

Health / Are There Risks In The Use Of Bottle Feeding For Healthy Term Babies? by temijohn45(m): 5:13pm On Jun 10, 2021
No doubt, directly and exclusively breast feeding of babies is the ideal practice recommended for nursing mothers. But a good number of barriers to the practice in our contemporary world make the search for alternatives such as bottle feeding inevitable. Studies, however, show that babies who are bottle fed are being exposed to higher risks of infections (due to contamination), maloclusions, and other forms of oral problems.

Health / Are Breast Pumps Really Effective In Supporting Exclusive Breastfeeding? by temijohn45(m): 11:36am On Apr 02, 2021
Breast pumps are tools for extracting milk by a nursing mother which are then bottle-fed to their babies. It could address obstacles to exclusive breastfeeding such as:

1. Pressure of work resumption for career mothers.

2. Medical conditions such as inverted nipples.

3. Not breastfeeding at all for fear of developing saggy breasts.

Although this device has been around for a longtime and the first was patented in 1854, its safety and effectiveness is still been debated.

So please share your experience with this device. How has it helped you in adopting exclusive breastfeeding practice? What challenges have you faced while using this device?
